What is Silent Gear Metalworks?
1 part
Silent Gear Metalworks is in the pack as version 1.21.1-1.4.3. In the pack's quest book it shows up as a set of casts named after Silent Gear gear types, such as the Sword Cast, Pickaxe Cast, Helmet Cast, Tool Rod Cast and Prospector Hammer Cast. Tools, weapons, armor, jewelry and even the Tip Cast each get their own cast.[1][2]
Where it sits in the quest book
The casts are quests in the "silent_gear" chapter, which has 68 quests in total. The chapter opens with a quest in "?", which asks for fire clay from Productive Metalworks.[2]
From there the path runs through a quest in "?" and then a quest in "?". After that comes a quest in "?", which asks for an iron ingot or coal. Every Metalworks cast quest unlocks after that one.[2]
Each cast quest asks for exactly one cast item. They sit side by side with the Productive Metalworks casts (rod, gem, ingot, nugget, plate and gear), several Silent Gear blueprint quests, and the a quest in "?". No quest in the chapter lists a Metalworks cast quest as a prerequisite, so none of them leads on to anything else.[2]
The rest of the chapter branches off the Salvager instead. It leads to the a quest in "?" and the a quest in "?". The Material Grader leads to the dust quests and the a quest in "?", which in turn leads to the a quest in "?".[2]
Unverified The sources do not say how these casts are crafted or used, so check that in game before relying on it.
How do you get started with Silent Gear Metalworks?
2 parts
Silent Gear Metalworks lets you turn Silent Gear tool and armor parts into casts, and it adds molten metals and gems for the foundry to work with. The mod's own tooltip sums up why you need it: all metal and gem tool parts require casting in a foundry from Productive Metalworks. So the first job is getting that foundry running.[3][4]
First steps, in order
- Open the silent_gear chapter of the quest book and start with a quest in "?". It asks for fire clay, and the next few quests hang off it.[2]
- Do a quest in "?" next. It asks for a liquid heating coil and comes after Fire Clay and three other quests that follow Fire Clay.[2]
- Then a quest in "?". It asks for a casting table, a casting basin and a foundry tap.[2]
- Finish the quest the book names a quest in "?". It asks for an Iron Ingot and Coal, and it sits right after the Casting Basin quest.[2]
- Now many cast quests open up, each placed right after the coal quest. You will see casts such as Pickaxe Cast, Sword Cast and Arrow Cast, next to the Silent Gear blueprint quests and the Salvager.[2]
The casts from this mod are made with item casting recipes. The Arrow Cast recipe below is one the pack changed from the mod's own version, so this is the recipe you follow here.[3]
Item Casting (productivemetalworks)
Arrow Heads
- 360× any molten steel
Recipe id: sgearmetalworks:casting/arrow_cast
This recipe is marked as changed by the pack, so don't rely on mod defaults you may remember.
Uru Metal and gems
The mod also adds its own metal, Uru Metal Ingot, with a matching Uru Metal Block and Uru Metal Nugget. The pack changed how Molten Uru Metal is made, and the recipe is shown below.[3]
Fluid Alloying (productivemetalworks)
90× Molten Allthemodium
90× Molten Unobtainium
90× Molten Vibranium
- 180× any meat
- 180× any molten heavy core
- 90× any molten tyrian steel
Recipe id: productivemetalworks:alloying/atm/molten_uru_metal
Once you have the molten metal, you cast it into ingots with this pack's changed recipe.[3]
Item Casting (productivemetalworks)
Ingot Cast
- 90× any molten uru metal
Recipe id: productivemetalworks:casting/ingots/sgearmetalworks/uru_metal
Gems work the same way. Geore shards and blocks melt into molten gems such as Molten Ruby, and the pack changed those melting recipes too.[3]
Item Melting (productivemetalworks)
Recipe id: productivemetalworks:melting/geore/ruby_shard
How does Silent Gear Metalworks work?
6 parts
Silent Gear Metalworks is the bridge between Silent Gear and Productive Metalworks. It does not add its own machines. It adds molten fluids, tool part casts and the Uru Metal material, and all the processing happens in Productive Metalworks' machines. The mod's own tooltip says that all metal and gem tool parts require casting in a foundry from Productive Metalworks.[3][4]
Molten fluids
The mod registers a lot of molten fluids, and each one comes with a bucket item. They cover metals such as Molten Uru Metal, Molten Blaze Gold and Molten Azure Electrum, plus gems such as Molten Ruby. In total there are 23 molten fluids, and the language file also lists Tyrian Steel, Crimson Steel and several other gems.[3][4]
Melting
Melting uses the Productive Metalworks item melting recipe type. Across the pack there are 81 melting recipes that produce Silent Gear Metalworks fluids, with 23 different results. Another 6 melt Geore gem items.[3]
Uru Metal is a good example of how melting works. Melting an Uru Metal Ingot gives 90 Molten Uru Metal, and melting an Uru Metal Block gives 800. Both are mod recipes, not pack changes.[3]
Item Melting (productivemetalworks)
- any uru metal ingot
Recipe id: minecraft:melting/uru_metal_ingot
Item Melting (productivemetalworks)
- any uru metal storage block
Recipe id: minecraft:melting/uru_metal_block
Item Melting (productivemetalworks)
Recipe id: sgearmetalworks:melting/pbees/uru_metal_comb
The pack changed this melting recipe, which gives 10 Molten Uru Metal.
The pack changed the Ruby Geore melting recipes. A Ruby Geore Shard melts into 100 Molten Ruby, and a Block of Ruby Geore melts into 400.[3]

Casting Uru Metal
Casting turns molten fluid back into solid items. Ingots and nuggets use a cast item from Productive Metalworks together with the fluid. Storage blocks use a separate block casting recipe type that needs only the fluid. The pack changed all three Uru Metal casting recipes.[3]
Item Casting (productivemetalworks)
Ingot Cast
- 90× any molten uru metal

Tool part casts and parts
The mod adds a cast item for nearly every Silent Gear part and gear type, for example Arrow Cast and Axe Cast. You make a cast by casting the matching Silent Gear part in molten steel. The pack changed both of these recipes.[3][4]
Item Casting (productivemetalworks)
Arrow Heads
- 360× any molten steel
Recipe id: sgearmetalworks:casting/arrow_cast
Casting then runs the other way too. Molten Uru Metal is cast into Silent Gear parts using a Tyrian Steel Ingot, and the recipe also returns an Uru Metal Ingot. These are mod recipes, not pack changes. In total the dump counts 34 casting recipes that make Silent Gear Metalworks items from Silent Gear inputs, and another 33 that make both Silent Gear Metalworks and Silent Gear items.[3]
Item Casting (productivemetalworks)
Tyrian Steel Ingot
- 90× any molten uru metal
Recipe id: sgearmetalworks:casting/uru/arrow_heads
Item Casting (productivemetalworks)
Tyrian Steel Ingot
- 270× any molten uru metal
Recipe id: sgearmetalworks:casting/uru/axe_head
Alloying
Some of the mod's fluids are made by mixing other molten fluids with the Productive Metalworks fluid alloying recipe type. The pack changed all three of these recipes, so don't expect the mod's defaults. Azure Electrum and Blaze Gold are straightforward mixes of molten metals. Molten Uru Metal is much more demanding: it needs molten Allthemodium, Unobtainium and Vibranium, among other things.[3]
Fluid Alloying (productivemetalworks)
- 360× any molten azure silver
- 100× any molten ender
- 180× any molten gold
Recipe id: productivemetalworks:alloying/molten_azure_electrum
Fluid Alloying (productivemetalworks)
- 200× any molten blaze
- 90× any molten gold

Fluid Alloying (productivemetalworks)
90× Molten Allthemodium
90× Molten Unobtainium
90× Molten Vibranium
- 180× any meat
- 180× any molten heavy core
- 90× any molten tyrian steel
Recipe id: productivemetalworks:alloying/atm/molten_uru_metal
What the sources don't cover
Unverified The sources do not explain how the foundry and the other Productive Metalworks machines are built or powered, their speeds, their fluid capacities or how to automate them with pipes or hoppers. Check the Productive Metalworks section of this guide for the machines themselves.
How do you progress through Silent Gear Metalworks?
6 parts
The pack's quest book has a "silent_gear" chapter with 68 quests. It runs from Fire Clay up to the Starlight Charger and the advanced Silent Gear metals. The Metalworks casts sit in the middle of that path, after the casting basin quest.[2]
The quest path
- Start with a quest in "?", which asks for Fire Clay. Several quests branch off it.[2]
- Those branches meet at a quest in "?", which asks for the Liquid Heating Coil.[2]
- Next is a quest in "?". It asks for the casting table, the casting basin and the foundry tap.[2]
- a quest in "?" asks for an iron ingot and coal. It opens the big fan of cast quests (ingot, nugget, plate, gear, rod and gem casts, plus the Silent Gear tool, weapon, armor and jewelry casts) and the Silent Gear blueprint quests. It also opens a quest in "?".[2]
- After the Salvager come a quest in "?" and a quest in "?".[2]
- The Material Grader leads to the Blazing, Glowing and Glittery Dust quests and to a quest in "?".[2]
- The Alloy Forge leads to a quest in "?".[2]
- The Starlight Charger unlocks the last group: Starmetal Dust, Azure Silver Dust, Blaze Gold Dust, and blocks of Azure Electrum, Tyrian Steel and Crimson Steel. The Crimson Steel quest asks for 4 blocks.[2]
Casts
The pack changed the recipes for the Silent Gear casts, such as the Arrow Cast, the Axe Cast and the Helmet Cast. Each one is made by casting the matching Silent Gear part with molten steel.[3]
Item Casting (productivemetalworks)
Arrow Heads
- 360× any molten steel
Recipe id: sgearmetalworks:casting/arrow_cast
Changed by the pack. Every cast recipe shown in the sources uses 360 of any molten steel plus the matching part.
Crimson Steel and Blaze Gold
The pack changed the alloying recipes for the Silent Gear metals, so don't rely on mod defaults. Molten Crimson Steel and Molten Blaze Gold are alloyed like this:[3]
Fluid Alloying (productivemetalworks)
- 200× any molten blaze
- 810× any molten crimson iron
- 100× any molten magma cream
Recipe id: productivemetalworks:alloying/molten_crimson_steel
Changed by the pack. This makes 270 molten Crimson Steel.
Fluid Alloying (productivemetalworks)
- 200× any molten blaze
- 90× any molten gold
Recipe id: productivemetalworks:alloying/molten_blaze_gold
Changed by the pack. This makes 90 molten Blaze Gold.
Azure Electrum and Tyrian Steel
The alloy recipes chain into each other. The Tyrian Steel recipe builds on the Crimson Steel and Azure Electrum alloys, and the Uru Metal recipe builds on Tyrian Steel. The pack changed all of these recipes.[3]
Fluid Alloying (productivemetalworks)
- 360× any molten azure silver
- 100× any molten ender
- 180× any molten gold
Recipe id: productivemetalworks:alloying/molten_azure_electrum
Makes Molten Azure Electrum. Changed by the pack.
Fluid Alloying (productivemetalworks)
- 100× any molten ancient debri
- 90× any molten azure electrum
- 90× any molten crimson steel
- 100× any molten shulker shell
Recipe id: productivemetalworks:alloying/molten_tyrian_steel
Makes Molten Tyrian Steel. Changed by the pack.
If you have dusts instead, the pack has melting recipes for azure electrum, azure silver, blaze gold, crimson iron, crimson steel and tyrian steel dust. Each one gives 90 of its molten metal. These recipes were all changed by the pack.[3]
Uru Metal
Molten Uru Metal comes from an alloying recipe the pack changed, and it builds on molten Tyrian Steel.[3]
Fluid Alloying (productivemetalworks)
90× Molten Allthemodium
90× Molten Unobtainium
90× Molten Vibranium
- 180× any meat
- 180× any molten heavy core
- 90× any molten tyrian steel
Recipe id: productivemetalworks:alloying/atm/molten_uru_metal
Changed by the pack. This makes 90 molten Uru Metal.
Once you have the molten metal, you cast it into an Uru Metal Ingot with an Ingot Cast. The pack changed this recipe.[3]
Item Casting (productivemetalworks)
Ingot Cast
- 90× any molten uru metal
Recipe id: productivemetalworks:casting/ingots/sgearmetalworks/uru_metal
Changed by the pack. An ingot takes 90 molten Uru Metal.
Melting gives back 90 for an ingot and 10 for a Uru Metal Nugget. You can also craft between nuggets, ingots and the Uru Metal Block.[3]
There are also casting recipes for Uru gear parts: arrow heads, axe head, boot plates, bow limbs, bracelet band, chestplate plates, crossbow limbs, dagger blade, excavator head, fishing reel and hook, hammer head, helmet plates and hoe head. These are unchanged mod recipes. The molten Uru Metal they use ranges from 90 for the dagger blade and arrow heads up to 720 for the chestplate plates.[3]
Item Casting (productivemetalworks)
Tyrian Steel Ingot
- 90× any molten uru metal
Recipe id: sgearmetalworks:casting/uru/dagger_blade
This part takes 90 molten Uru Metal.
Item Casting (productivemetalworks)
Tyrian Steel Ingot
- 720× any molten uru metal
Recipe id: sgearmetalworks:casting/uru/chestplate_plates
The most expensive part shown, at 720 molten Uru Metal.
Gem fluids
The pack also changed how gems melt. Alexandrite, ammolite, black diamond, carnelian and citrine gems each give 100 of their molten fluid. Ruby, sapphire and topaz geore shards give 100 each, and their geore blocks give 400. Examples are Molten Ruby, Molten Sapphire and Molten Topaz.[3]
How does Silent Gear Metalworks work with other mods?
4 parts
In this pack, Silent Gear Metalworks connects to Productive Metalworks, Silent Gear, Geore and the Allthemodium metals through its recipes.[3]
Silent Gear: part casts
To make a cast for a Silent Gear part, you cast the part itself with molten steel. For example, Arrow Heads plus any molten steel gives you an Arrow Cast. The pack changed these cast recipes, and the same pattern covers other parts such as the sword blade, pickaxe head, helmet plates and shield plate.[3]
Item Casting (productivemetalworks)
Arrow Heads
- 360× any molten steel
Recipe id: sgearmetalworks:casting/arrow_cast
The same pattern is used by the other part casts in this pack.
The mod also has its own casting recipe type that turns a cast back into the Silent Gear part, shown below for the Arrow Cast. Tool rods and tip upgrades follow the same pattern through Tool Rod Cast and Tip Cast.[3]
Sg Gear Casting (sgearmetalworks)
Recipe id: sgearmetalworks:casting/silentgear/arrow_heads
Quests
The pack's silent_gear quest chapter has quests for many of these casts, and each one asks you to obtain a cast item. Examples are a quest in "?" for the Arrow Cast and a quest in "?" for the Pickaxe Cast. Every cast quest in that chapter lists the same earlier quest as its prerequisite.[2]
Geore gems and Productive Metalworks
Geore gems can be melted into this mod's molten fluids. The pack's melting recipes turn Ruby, Sapphire and Topaz Geore into Molten Ruby, Molten Sapphire and Molten Topaz. You can melt shards such as Ruby GeOre Shard, Sapphire GeOre Shard and Topaz GeOre Shard, or whole blocks such as Block Of Ruby GeOre, Block Of Sapphire GeOre and Block Of Topaz GeOre.[3]
Item Melting (productivemetalworks)
Recipe id: productivemetalworks:melting/geore/ruby_shard
Uru Metal and the Allthemodium metals
The pack changed the alloying recipe for Molten Uru Metal, and this is where the molten Allthemodium metals come in: Molten Allthemodium, Molten Unobtainium and Molten Vibranium are all inputs. The recipe below shows the exact inputs.[3]
Fluid Alloying (productivemetalworks)
90× Molten Allthemodium
90× Molten Unobtainium
90× Molten Vibranium
- 180× any meat
- 180× any molten heavy core
- 90× any molten tyrian steel
Recipe id: productivemetalworks:alloying/atm/molten_uru_metal
Once you have molten Uru Metal, the pack's casting recipes turn it into an Uru Metal Ingot using an Ingot Cast. They also make an Uru Metal Nugget using a Nugget Cast.[3]
Item Casting (productivemetalworks)
Ingot Cast
- 90× any molten uru metal
Recipe id: productivemetalworks:casting/ingots/sgearmetalworks/uru_metal
The mod's own Uru recipes also cross over with Silent Gear. They use a Tyrian Steel Ingot and give you a Silent Gear part such as Axe Head, with the same pattern for other parts like Knife Blade. The axe head version is shown below.[3]
Item Casting (productivemetalworks)
Tyrian Steel Ingot
- 270× any molten uru metal
Recipe id: sgearmetalworks:casting/uru/axe_head
This is the mod's own recipe, not one the pack changed.
Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Silent Gear Metalworks?
3 parts
The casts from this mod show up in the pack's "silent_gear" quest chapter, which has 68 quests in total. Every cast from this mod gets its own quest, and each one just asks you to hand in that cast item. They all sit behind a short chain of Productive Metalworks setup quests.[2]
The order of the chain
- Start with a quest in "?", which asks for Fire Clay. Several quests branch off it, including three that have no title in the book.[2]
- a quest in "?" comes after Fire Clay and those three untitled quests.[2]
- a quest in "?" follows the heating coil and asks for a casting table, a casting basin and a foundry tap.[2]
- a quest in "?" comes after the basin quest and asks for an iron ingot and coal. Every cast quest in the chapter comes after this one.[2]
Once that coal quest is done, all the cast quests unlock together. They share the same prerequisite and none of them depends on another, so you can take them in any order.[2]
