What is Silent Gear Metalworks?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 guide

Silent Gear Metalworks is in this pack at version 1.21.1-1.5.0. The sources here include no guidebook and no platform description for the mod, so everything below comes from the pack's mod list and quest book.[1]

What you'll see most is casts. The pack's Silent Gear quest chapter is a long run of quests, and each one asks you to get a cast for a different tool, weapon, armor piece or accessory. Every one of them comes after a quest called Casts, so that's your starting point in the chapter.[2]

What the casts are for

The quest text helps you pick what to make first. The Sword Cast is for the basic sword, with reliable damage and reliable speed. The Dagger Cast gives low damage but very high attack speed, and it reduces the target's invincibility time.[2]

The Tip Cast is for the Tip Upgrade, which raises a tool's mining level. The quest's example is an Iron Pickaxe with a Diamond Tip Upgrade, which lets it mine Obsidian and gives it a stat boost.[2]

Beyond the casts

The mod also adds the Uru Metal Block. It turns up in the Productive Bees chapter, in the quest "Uru Metal Bee" quest, where you pour Molten Uru over an Unobtainium Bee Spawn Egg.[3]

Unverified Whether the ATM Star path uses this mod is not shown in the sources here. Check the pack's quest book to see how the Silent Gear chapter connects to the rest of it.

How do you get started with Silent Gear Metalworks?

2 parts

Silent Gear Metalworks adds the casts you need to make Silent Gear tool parts in this pack. The mod's own tooltip says that all metal and gem tool parts require casting in a foundry from Productive Metalworks, so the casts come first.[4][5]

Watch out: All metal and gem tool parts require casting in a foundry from Productive Metalworks. Plan your foundry before you plan your tools.[4]

Every cast has its own casting recipe, and the recipe dump marks each of them as changed by the pack. Use the recipe blocks below instead of anything you remember from the mod's defaults.[5]

What to make first

The Silent Gear quest chapter has quests for the casts, each one unlocked after the Casts quest. Here is the order I would go in, starting with the basics.[6]

  1. Start with the Tool Rod Cast. Its quest, a quest in "Silent Gear", is called "Your own Handle!", so this is the cast for the tool rod.[5][6]
  2. Next, make the cast for the tool you will use most. The Pickaxe Cast (quest a quest in "Silent Gear"), Axe Cast (quest a quest in "Silent Gear") and Shovel Cast (quest a quest in "Silent Gear") cover the basic digging tools.[5][6]
  3. Add the Sword Cast for combat. Its quest, a quest in "Silent Gear", describes it as the basic sword with reliable damage and reliable speed.[5][6]
  4. Then make the Tip Cast to upgrade a tool's mining level (quest a quest in "Silent Gear"). The quest's example is an Iron Pickaxe plus a Diamond Tip Upgrade made with 1 Diamond. That lets the pickaxe mine Obsidian and gives it a stat boost.[5][6]

Once the basics are covered

After that, you can pick up the specialty casts as you need them. The quest descriptions give a quick idea of how each tool plays:[6]

Armor and jewelry have casts too: Helmet Cast, Chestplate Cast, Leggings Cast and Boots Cast, plus Ring Cast, Necklace Cast and Bracelet Cast. Ranged tools and extras such as the Bow Cast, Crossbow Cast, Slingshot Cast, Fishing Rod Cast, Shears Cast and Shield Cast each have a cast as well.[5][6]

How does Silent Gear Metalworks work?

5 parts

The sources show this mod adding molten fluids, casts and Uru Metal items. The melting, casting and alloying that produce them are all Productive Metalworks recipe types that output this mod's items.[4][5]

Tip: The mod's own tooltip says it plainly: all metal and gem tool parts require casting in a foundry from Productive Metalworks.[4]

Molten fluids

The mod registers a molten fluid, with a bucket item, for a long list of metals and gems. Examples are Molten Ruby, Molten Azure Silver, Molten Azure Electrum, Molten Blaze Gold and Molten Uru Metal. The same list includes Crimson Steel, Tyrian Steel, Black Diamond, Opal and many other gems.[4]

Melting

Melting uses the item_melting recipe type. The dump counts 96 of these recipes that produce this mod's fluids, covering 28 different fluids. A further 6 melt GeOre items into 3 different fluids.[5]

Dusts of azure silver and azure electrum each melt into 90 of the matching fluid. The pack changed both recipes.[5]

Alloying

Some of the mod's fluids are made by combining other molten fluids, using the fluid_alloying recipe type. In this pack, the recipes for Azure Electrum, Blaze Gold and Uru Metal have all been changed. Azure Electrum and Blaze Gold each produce 90 of their fluid per craft, and so does the Uru Metal recipe.[5]

The Uru Metal alloy is the most involved of the three. It mixes fluids from the Allthemodium family with Tyrian Steel and a few other fluid tags. The pack changed this recipe, so what you see here is the pack's version.[5]

Uru Metal can also come from a melting recipe whose id points at a Productive Bees comb. It yields 10 Molten Uru Metal, and the pack changed it.[5]

Casting

Casting uses item_casting for items and block_casting for blocks. The mod adds a cast item for most Silent Gear part types, such as the Axe Cast and Arrow Cast, plus Pickaxe, Sword, Bow, Helmet, Ring and many others.[4][5]

The casts themselves are made by casting too. The dump counts 34 item_casting recipes that turn a Silent Gear item and a fluid into one of this mod's items. The Arrow Cast and Axe Cast recipes are examples, and the pack changed both.[5]

A second group of 33 item_casting recipes produces both one of this mod's items and a Silent Gear item. The Uru Metal arrow heads and axe head recipes are written out in the dump, and they are unchanged mod recipes. Each lists a Uru Metal Ingot and the Silent Gear part as results. The axe head recipe uses 270 molten Uru Metal, three times the 90 of the arrow heads one.[5]

Uru Metal ingots and blocks

Casting an Uru Metal Ingot takes 90 of molten Uru Metal. Casting a whole Uru Metal Block takes 810, which is exactly nine ingots' worth. The pack changed both casting recipes.[5]

How do you progress through Silent Gear Metalworks?

4 parts

Progression with Silent Gear Metalworks in this pack has two parts. First you collect casts for the Silent Gear parts you want, which the Silent Gear quest chapter walks you through. Then you climb a chain of molten alloys that ends at Uru Metal.[5][6]

Step 1: The casts

Every quest in the Silent Gear chapter sits after the Casts quest, and each one asks you to get a single cast item. There is a quest for each cast, from the Sword Cast and Pickaxe Cast to armor casts like the Helmet Cast and Boots Cast. Jewelry and ranged weapons are covered too, including the Ring Cast, Necklace Cast, Bow Cast and Crossbow Cast.[6]

In this pack, every cast is made with an item-casting recipe that the pack changed. Each one uses the matching Silent Gear part, so the sword cast uses the sword blade. Here is the sword cast as an example.[5]

Sword CastChanged by the pack

Item Casting (productivemetalworks)

Recipe id: sgearmetalworks:casting/sword_cast

Every cast recipe in the pack takes molten steel together with the matching Silent Gear part.

Which cast to pick first

The quest descriptions give quick hints about what each cast is for:[6]

  • Sword Cast: the basic sword, with reliable damage and reliable speed.[6]
  • Dagger Cast: low damage but very high attack speed, and it reduces the target's invincibility time.[6]
  • Knife Cast: higher durability than a dagger, but lower damage and speed.[6]
  • Katana Cast: more damage than a sword, but slower.[6]
  • Machete Cast: slightly faster than a sword, but lower damage.[6]
  • Spear Cast: less damage than a sword, but longer reach.[6]
  • Hammer Cast (quest title "3x3 Mining") and Excavator Cast ("3x3 Digging!") are the area-mining options.[6]
  • Paxel Cast: the quest calls it Pickaxe + Axe + Shovel.[6]
  • Tip Cast: the Tip Upgrade raises a tool's mining level. The quest's example is putting a Diamond Tip Upgrade on an Iron Pickaxe so it can mine Obsidian, which also gives a stat boost.[6]

Step 2: The alloy ladder

Past the casts, the mod adds molten metals and gems. Melting recipes in the pack turn dusts into molten forms such as Molten Crimson Iron, Molten Azure Silver and Molten Tyrian Steel. They also do this for many gems, including Molten Ruby, Molten Sapphire and Molten Topaz. The pack changed all of these recipes.[5]

The alloys are made with fluid-alloying recipes, which the pack also changed. The order runs Molten Crimson Steel and Molten Azure Electrum first, then Molten Tyrian Steel, then Molten Uru Metal at the top. The recipes are shown below.[5]

Step 3: Uru Metal

Uru Metal is the top of the chain. The pack has its own alloying recipe for it under an ATM-specific recipe id, so this is the pack's version, not a mod default.[5]

How does Silent Gear Metalworks work with other mods?

5 parts

Silent Gear Metalworks ties Silent Gear into the Productive Metalworks casting setup, and it also reaches into a few other mods in this pack. Everything below comes from in-pack recipes and quests.[5][6]

Silent Gear and Productive Metalworks: casts for gear parts

The core link is casting. In this pack, a Silent Gear part such as an Axe Head is cast together with molten steel to make the matching cast, here the Axe Cast. This is a Productive Metalworks item-casting recipe that the pack changed. The same pattern covers the other tool, weapon, armor and jewelry parts in the recipe dump.[5]

Axe CastChanged by the pack

Going the other way, a separate gear-casting recipe turns the cast back into the Silent Gear part. Both directions are changed by the pack.[5]

The cast gives you the part.

The same pattern applies to the Tip Upgrade and Tool Rod, which use the Tip Cast and Tool Rod Cast.[5]

Silent Gear quest chapter

The Silent Gear quest chapter has quests for the casts, and each one comes after the Casts quest. For example, a quest in "Silent Gear" asks for the Tip Cast, and its text says the Tip Upgrade raises the mining level of a tool. a quest in "Silent Gear" asks for the Katana Cast and describes the katana as hitting harder than a sword but slower.[6]

Uru Metal: Allthemodium, Silent Gear and Productive Metalworks

Molten Uru Metal is made with an alloying recipe that the pack changed. This is the link to Allthemodium: the recipe below works with the molten forms of its metals, Molten Allthemodium, Molten Unobtainium and Molten Vibranium.[5]

Productive Bees

"Uru Metal Bee" quest in the Productive Bees chapter is called Uru Metal Bee, and its description says to pour Molten Uru over an Unobtainium Bee Spawn Egg. Its tasks accept one of several Productive Bees items, such as a bee cage or a spawn egg, plus an Uru Metal Block.[7]

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Silent Gear Metalworks?

6 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 guide

Silent Gear Metalworks shows up in two quest chapters: a big "Silent Gear" chapter built around casts, and one quest in the "Productive Bees" chapter that uses Uru metal.[2][3]

The Silent Gear chapter

Every quest here comes after the chapter's "Casts" quest, and each one has a single task: get the matching cast item. Nothing in the chapter sets an order between the cast quests, so once you've done "Casts" you can take them in any order you like.[2]

Several quests also explain what the tool or weapon does. Here they are, grouped by type.[2]

Melee weapons

Mining and utility tools

Ranged weapons and shield

Armor and jewelry

The Productive Bees chapter

"Uru Metal Bee" quest (Uru Metal Bee) is the other quest that uses this mod. Its description says to pour molten Uru over an Unobtainium Bee Spawn Egg. It has two tasks. The first accepts any one of several Productive Bees items: a configurable honeycomb, a configurable comb, a configurable bee spawn egg, a bee cage or a sturdy bee cage. The second asks for the Uru Metal Block. It unlocks after another quest in that chapter.[3]
