What is Silent Gear Metalworks?
2 parts
Silent Gear Metalworks is the bridge between Silent Gear and Productive Metalworks. This pack ships version 1.21.1-1.4.3 of it, and it has been in the pack since 1.0 or earlier. The mod adds the Silent Gear cast items, such as the Sword Cast, Pickaxe Cast and Tool Rod Cast.[1][2]
The quest book explains the idea in "Silent Gear and Productive Metalworks" quest. Instead of choosing between Silent Gear and Tinker's Construct, this pack takes the best of both. Productive Metalworks changes how you get your Silent Gear items: instead of Blueprints, you now need Casts and a Foundry.[2]
Where it sits in the quest book
The casts live in the "Silent Gear" chapter, which has 68 quests. The path to them looks like this:[2]
- Start with "Silent Gear and Productive Metalworks" quest, which tells you to begin with Fire Clay.[2]
- "Foundry Controller" quest, "Foundry Drains" quest and "Foundry Tanks" quest all come after that intro quest.[2]
- "Building the Foundry" quest comes after those three (and the intro) and covers the Liquid Heating Coils and walls.[2]
- "Casting Items" quest follows, introducing the Casting Table, Casting Basin and Foundry Tap.[2]
- "Casts" quest follows that, and every individual cast quest comes after it.[2]
According to the Casts quest, all casts are made the same way: you pour steel onto an item in a Casting Table. You get steel by melting down steel items or ingots, or by alloying 9 iron to 10 coal in a heated Foundry.[2]
The cast quests
Each Silent Gear Metalworks cast has its own quest after Casts. Some of them describe the tool you get. The Sword Cast makes the basic sword, the Katana Cast makes a harder-hitting but slower blade, and the Spear Cast trades damage for reach. The Hammer Cast and Excavator Cast quests are labelled 3x3 mining and 3x3 digging, and the Tip Cast is for the Tip Upgrade that raises a tool's mining level.[2]
"Salvager" quest also comes after Casts, and a quest in "Silent Gear" and a quest in "Silent Gear" come after that. Nine quests in this chapter are not covered here, so check the quest book for their details.[2]
How do you get started with Silent Gear Metalworks?
2 parts
In this pack you don't craft Silent Gear tool and armor parts from blueprints. The mod's own tooltip says all metal and gem tool parts must be cast in a foundry from Productive Metalworks. So your first goal is a working Foundry, then a set of Casts. The quest chapter walks you through it.[2][3]
Your first steps, in order
- Start with Fire Clay. The quest "Silent Gear and Productive Metalworks" quest says to begin the Foundry with Fire Clay.[2]
- Get the Foundry Controller, the Drains and the Tanks ("Foundry Controller" quest, "Foundry Drains" quest, "Foundry Tanks" quest). The Controller is the heart of the Foundry and every Foundry needs at least one. Drains let you pull the liquid metal out, and Tanks hold liquids, mostly fuel. Lava appears to be one of the only ways to fuel the Foundry.[2]
- Build it ("Building the Foundry" quest). Liquid Heating Coil blocks form the floor, and Foundry Windows or Fire Bricks make the walls. You need 4 walls and a floor, and the corners can stay empty. The inside can be as small as 1x1, but the quest doesn't recommend that, because a bigger Foundry holds more. It's done when the Controller lights up like a Furnace and the coils turn orange.[2]
- Set up your pouring station ("Casting Items" quest). Put a Foundry Tap on the Drain, then place a Casting Table or a Casting Basin beneath it. The Casting Table is what you need for Casts.[2]
- Make steel ("Casts" quest). Melt down any steel items or ingots, or alloy 9 iron with 10 coal once the Foundry is heated and both liquid metals are inside.[2]
- Pour steel onto an item in the Casting Table to make a Cast. Every Cast is made the same way.[2]
Making your first Cast
The pack changed the Cast recipes, so the blocks below show the exact in-pack versions. Here are two to start with: the Dagger Cast and the Axe Cast.[4]
Item Casting (productivemetalworks)
Dagger Blade
- 360× any molten steel

The pack changed this recipe.
Item Casting (productivemetalworks)
Axe Head
- 360× any molten steel
Recipe id: sgearmetalworks:casting/axe_cast
The pack changed this recipe too.
After the Casts quest, the book gives each Cast its own quest. They cover the basic Sword Cast for reliable damage and speed, and the Dagger Cast for low damage but very high attack speed. The Tip Cast makes the Tip Upgrade, which raises a tool's mining level. The quest's example is a Diamond Tip letting an Iron Pickaxe mine Obsidian.[2]
How does Silent Gear Metalworks work?
4 parts
Silent Gear Metalworks doesn't bring its own machines. It adds molten metals and gems, cast items and Uru Metal, and all of it plugs into the foundry from Productive Metalworks. The mod's own tooltip says it plainly: all metal and gem tool parts require casting in a foundry.[3]
So the whole workflow is melt, alloy, cast. Everything below comes from the recipes in this pack.[4]
Melting
The mod has 23 molten fluids, each with its own bucket item. In the pack's recipes, 81 melting recipes turn items into those 23 fluids, and 6 more melt Geore gems into them.[3][4]
Uru Metal is a good example. An Uru Metal Ingot melts into 90 of Molten Uru Metal, while an Uru Metal Block melts into 800. Both are the mod's own recipes. Watch that gap: casting a block back takes 810, so melting blocks loses a little fluid.[4]
The pack changed some melting values. A Ruby Geore block gives 400 of Molten Ruby and a Ruby Geore shard gives 100. The Uru Metal Bee comb melts into 10 Molten Uru Metal, though the recipe dump lists no item inputs for that one.[4]

Alloying
Some fluids are made by mixing others, using fluid alloying recipes. The pack changed all three of these, so don't rely on the mod's defaults. Molten Blaze Gold and Molten Azure Electrum each make 90 per batch.[4]
Fluid Alloying (productivemetalworks)
- 200× any molten blaze
- 90× any molten gold

Fluid Alloying (productivemetalworks)
- 360× any molten azure silver
- 100× any molten ender
- 180× any molten gold
Recipe id: productivemetalworks:alloying/molten_azure_electrum
The pack's Molten Uru Metal alloy is the big one. It mixes molten Allthemodium, Unobtainium and Vibranium with tagged fluids for meat, heavy core and Tyrian Steel, and makes 90 per batch.[4]

- 180× any meat
- 180× any molten heavy core
- 90× any molten tyrian steel
Recipe id: productivemetalworks:alloying/atm/molten_uru_metal
Casting
Casting turns molten fluid back into solid items. Uru Metal ingots and nuggets use an ingot cast and a nugget cast from Productive Metalworks plus Molten Uru Metal, and the pack changed both recipes. Blocks use a separate block casting recipe that needs no cast, and the pack changed that one too.[4]

Block Casting (productivemetalworks)
- 810× any molten uru metal
Recipe id: productivemetalworks:casting/storage_blocks/sgearmetalworks/uru_metal
If you'd rather skip the foundry for storage, ingots and blocks also convert in a normal crafting grid, nine ingots to one block and back.[4]

Casts for Silent Gear parts
The mod adds a cast item for each Silent Gear part type, such as the Arrow Cast and Axe Cast. You make these by casting a Silent Gear part with molten steel, and the pack changed both of these recipes. There are 34 casting recipes of this shape in the pack.[3][4]
Item Casting (productivemetalworks)
Arrow Heads
- 360× any molten steel
Recipe id: sgearmetalworks:casting/arrow_cast
There is a second group of casting recipes that make Silent Gear parts out of Molten Uru Metal. They use a Tyrian Steel Ingot and give you an Uru Metal Ingot together with the part, such as arrow heads or an axe head. These are the mod's own recipes, and the dump counts 33 of this shape.[4]

Unverified How the foundry is powered, how fluids and items move in and out of it, and how to automate it are not explained in the sources for this mod, so they are not covered here.
How do you progress through Silent Gear Metalworks?
5 parts
Silent Gear progression in this pack runs through the "Silent Gear" quest chapter, which has 68 quests. The pack uses Silent Gear together with Productive Metalworks, so you build a Foundry and pour Casts instead of crafting from blueprints.[2]
The quest path
- Start with "Silent Gear and Productive Metalworks" quest. It asks for Fire Clay, the first step toward the Foundry.[2]
- Pick up "Foundry Controller" quest, "Foundry Drains" quest and "Foundry Tanks" quest. Then "Building the Foundry" quest asks for Liquid Heating Coils for the floor, plus Foundry Windows or Fire Bricks for the walls.[2]
- "Casting Items" quest covers the Casting Table, the Casting Basin and the Foundry Tap. You place the Tap on a Drain and put a block beneath it to catch the liquid metal.[2]
- "Casts" quest explains that every Cast is made by pouring Steel onto an item in a Casting Table. It also says you can get Steel by alloying 9 Iron with 10 Coal in a heated Foundry.[2]
- After that comes a big branch of Cast quests, such as a quest in "Silent Gear", a quest in "Silent Gear" and a quest in "Silent Gear". The same branch holds the Silent Gear blueprint quests and "Salvager" quest.[2]
- a quest in "Silent Gear" and a quest in "Silent Gear" both come after the Salvager. The Material Grader then leads to the three Grader Catalyst quests and to a quest in "Silent Gear".[2]
- The Alloy Forge leads to "Starlight Charger" quest, which in turn leads to the tiered Starlight Charger catalysts and pillar caps.[2]
Casts: the first tier of work
The cast recipes listed in the pack data have all been changed by the pack. Each one takes the matching Silent Gear part and 360 units of molten steel. Here is the Axe Cast as an example, and the other casts follow the same pattern.[4]
Item Casting (productivemetalworks)
Axe Head
- 360× any molten steel
Recipe id: sgearmetalworks:casting/axe_cast
Changed by the pack.
Material tiers 1 to 3
The quest book lays the tiers out in two places. The Material Grader takes a Grader Catalyst to give a material a grade, and there is one catalyst quest per tier. The Starlight Charger then has a catalyst quest and a pillar cap quest for each tier too.[2]
- Tier 1: "Tier 1 Grader Catalyst" quest uses Glowing Dust. The charger catalyst is Blaze Gold Dust and the pillar cap is Block of Crimson Steel (the quest asks for 4).[2]
- Tier 2: "Tier 2 Grader Catalyst" quest uses Blazing Dust. The charger catalyst is Azure Silver Dust and the pillar cap is Block of Azure Electrum.[2]
- Tier 3: "Tier 3 Grader Catalyst" quest uses Glittery Dust. The charger catalyst is Starmetal Dust and the pillar cap is Block of Tyrian Steel.[2]
The alloy chain
The pack's Foundry has alloying recipes for the metals behind those tiers, and all of the ones below were changed by the pack. Crimson Steel and Blaze Gold line up with the tier 1 pillar cap and catalyst, and Azure Electrum lines up with the tier 2 pillar cap.[2][4]
Fluid Alloying (productivemetalworks)
- 200× any molten blaze
- 90× any molten gold
Recipe id: productivemetalworks:alloying/molten_blaze_gold
Fluid Alloying (productivemetalworks)
- 200× any molten blaze
- 810× any molten crimson iron

Fluid Alloying (productivemetalworks)
- 360× any molten azure silver
- 100× any molten ender
- 180× any molten gold
Recipe id: productivemetalworks:alloying/molten_azure_electrum
Tyrian Steel matches the tier 3 pillar cap. The pack's recipe makes Molten Tyrian Steel from molten Azure Electrum and molten Crimson Steel, plus molten ancient debris and molten shulker shell. It was changed by the pack.[2][4]
Fluid Alloying (productivemetalworks)
- 100× any molten ancient debri
- 90× any molten azure electrum
- 90× any molten crimson steel
- 100× any molten shulker shell
Recipe id: productivemetalworks:alloying/molten_tyrian_steel
Uru Metal at the top
Molten Uru Metal is the last metal in this chain. The pack's alloying recipe for it, changed by the pack, takes molten Tyrian Steel as one of its inputs.[4]
Fluid Alloying (productivemetalworks)
90× Molten Allthemodium
90× Molten Unobtainium
90× Molten Vibranium
- 180× any meat
- 180× any molten heavy core
- 90× any molten tyrian steel
Recipe id: productivemetalworks:alloying/atm/molten_uru_metal
Once you have the liquid, you cast it into Uru Metal Ingot and the other forms. Uru tool and armor parts take more molten Uru Metal the bigger they are: 90 for a dagger blade and 720 for chestplate plates. Both of those recipes also use a Tyrian Steel Ingot.[4]
Item Casting (productivemetalworks)
Tyrian Steel Ingot
- 720× any molten uru metal

How does Silent Gear Metalworks work with other mods?
3 parts
Silent Gear Metalworks is a bridge between Silent Gear and the Productive Metalworks casting setup. In this pack the connections cover turning Silent Gear parts into reusable casts, melting Geore gems, and an Allthemodium-flavoured alloy called Uru Metal.[4]
Silent Gear parts and casts
Every Silent Gear part has a matching cast in this mod. You make the cast by item-casting the part with molten steel, so a Sword Blade plus molten steel gives you a Sword Cast. The pack changed these cast recipes.[4]
Item Casting (productivemetalworks)
Sword Blade
- 360× any molten steel
Recipe id: sgearmetalworks:casting/sword_cast
The reverse also works. A cast can be turned back into the Silent Gear part it was made from, using this mod's own gear-casting recipe type. For example, the Sword Cast gives you a Sword Blade again. The pack changed these recipes too.[4]
Sg Gear Casting (sgearmetalworks)
Recipe id: sgearmetalworks:casting/silentgear/sword_blade
The same pattern covers the rest of the Silent Gear parts, including Pickaxe Head, Bow Limbs, Helmet Plates, Tool Rod and the Tip Upgrade upgrade.[4]
The quest book follows this too. The Silent Gear chapter has one quest per cast, all unlocked after a quest called Casts. Examples are a quest in "Silent Gear" for the Sword Cast and a quest in "Silent Gear" for the Pickaxe Cast. The quest for the Tip Cast (a quest in "Silent Gear") explains that the Tip Upgrade raises a tool's mining level.[2]
Geore gems become molten metals
Productive Metalworks can melt Geore gems into fluids that belong to this mod. Both the shards and the blocks work, and the pack changed these recipes. Ruby GeOre Shard and Block Of Ruby GeOre give Molten Ruby, the sapphire versions give Molten Sapphire, and the topaz versions give Molten Topaz.[4]
Item Melting (productivemetalworks)
Recipe id: productivemetalworks:melting/geore/ruby_shard
Uru Metal and Allthemodium
Molten Uru Metal is made by alloying in Productive Metalworks, and the Allthemodium fluids Molten Allthemodium, Molten Unobtainium and Molten Vibranium are among its inputs. The pack changed this recipe, and the full version is shown below.[4]
Fluid Alloying (productivemetalworks)
90× Molten Allthemodium
90× Molten Unobtainium
90× Molten Vibranium
- 180× any meat
- 180× any molten heavy core
- 90× any molten tyrian steel
Recipe id: productivemetalworks:alloying/atm/molten_uru_metal
Once you have the fluid, you cast it with Productive Metalworks casts. The Ingot Cast gives you an Uru Metal Ingot, and the Nugget Cast gives you an Uru Metal Nugget. The pack changed both recipes.[4]

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Silent Gear Metalworks?
3 parts
This mod has no chapter of its own. Its quests sit in the pack's "Silent Gear" chapter, which mixes Silent Gear and Productive Metalworks quests. The chapter's own intro explains the idea: instead of blueprints, you make Silent Gear items with Casts and a Foundry.[2]
The path to your first Cast
- "Silent Gear and Productive Metalworks" quest is the chapter's starting point. It asks for Fire Clay, which is where you begin making the Foundry.[2]
- "Foundry Controller" quest, "Foundry Drains" quest and "Foundry Tanks" quest all come after the starting quest. The quest book calls the Controller the heart of the Foundry. Drains are how you get the liquid metal out. Tanks hold liquids, mostly fuel such as lava.[2]
- "Building the Foundry" quest needs all four quests above done first. It asks for Liquid Heating Coils for the floor, plus Foundry Windows or Fire Bricks for the walls. You'll know the Foundry is built when the Controller lights up like a Furnace and the coils turn orange.[2]
- "Casting Items" quest asks for a Casting Table, a Casting Basin and a Foundry Tap. The tap goes on a Drain. A Casting Basin turns about 900mB of liquid metal into a full metal block, and the Casting Table is what you need for Casts.[2]
- "Casts" quest asks for an iron ingot and coal. The quest says every Cast is made the same way: pour Steel onto an item in a Casting Table. You get Steel by melting Steel items or ingots, or by alloying 9 Iron with 10 Coal in a heated Foundry.[2]
The Cast quests
Every Cast quest comes after "Casts" quest, so you can do them in any order. Each one just asks you to obtain that Cast. The quest book also gives short notes on a few of them.[2]
- Swords and blades: a quest in "Silent Gear" (Sword Cast) is the basic sword with reliable damage and speed. a quest in "Silent Gear" does more damage than a sword but is slower. a quest in "Silent Gear" is slightly faster than a sword but does less damage. a quest in "Silent Gear" has low damage and very high attack speed, and reduces the target's invincibility time. a quest in "Silent Gear" has higher durability than a dagger but lower damage and speed.[2]
- Reach and throwing: a quest in "Silent Gear" does less damage than a sword but has longer reach. a quest in "Silent Gear" covers the Trident Cast.[2]
- Mining and utility tools: a quest in "Silent Gear", a quest in "Silent Gear", a quest in "Silent Gear", a quest in "Silent Gear" (Pickaxe + Axe + Shovel), a quest in "Silent Gear", a quest in "Silent Gear", a quest in "Silent Gear", a quest in "Silent Gear" and a quest in "Silent Gear".[2]
- 3x3 tools: a quest in "Silent Gear" is titled "3x3 Mining" and a quest in "Silent Gear" is titled "3x3 Digging!".[2]
- Ranged: a quest in "Silent Gear", a quest in "Silent Gear", a quest in "Silent Gear" and a quest in "Silent Gear".[2]
- Armor and shield: a quest in "Silent Gear", a quest in "Silent Gear", a quest in "Silent Gear", a quest in "Silent Gear" and a quest in "Silent Gear".[2]
- Jewelry: a quest in "Silent Gear", a quest in "Silent Gear" and a quest in "Silent Gear".[2]
- Parts: a quest in "Silent Gear" is titled "Your own Handle!". a quest in "Silent Gear" covers the tip upgrade, which raises a tool's mining level. The quest's example is a Diamond Tip on an Iron Pickaxe so it can mine Obsidian.[2]
What sits next to them
Several other quests also come after "Casts" quest. These include the Productive Metalworks casts (rod, gem, ingot, nugget, plate and gear) and the Silent Gear blueprint quests, such as a quest in "Silent Gear" and a quest in "Silent Gear". "Salvager" quest follows too, and the quest book says it breaks gear down into the items it was made from.[2]
The Silent Gear quests then continue past the casts. a quest in "Silent Gear" and a quest in "Silent Gear" come after the Salvager. The grader catalysts, a quest in "Silent Gear" and the Starlight Charger quests follow from there.[2]
