Silent Gear Metalworks is a mod in FTB Skies 2 1.24.0, where it is version 1.21.1-1.5.0. Adds compatibility between Silent Gear and Productive Metalworks (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is Silent Gear Metalworks?

2 parts

Silent Gear Metalworks is an add-on for Silent Gear. This pack ships version 1.21.1-1.5.0 of it. In this pack you'll meet it through its cast items, and each one lines up with a Silent Gear blueprint.[1][2]

Where it shows up in progression

The pack's questbook brings the mod in through the gearing_up chapter. Each quest there asks for a Silent Gear blueprint and the matching Silent Gear Metalworks cast, so you'll be collecting both side by side as you work on your gear.[2]

Most of these quests unlock after the same earlier quest in the chapter. They cover the casts for weapons and tools, such as the Katana Cast, Spear Cast, Bow Cast, Crossbow Cast, Shield Cast, Dagger Cast, Knife Cast, Machete Cast, Hammer Cast, Excavator Cast, Paxel Cast and Slingshot Cast. The same group also has the Arrow Cast and Tip Cast.[2]

The Necklace Cast, Ring Cast and Bracelet Cast sit behind a different earlier quest in the same chapter, so they unlock on their own branch.[2]

Quests to look for

Unverified There is no in-jar guidebook or platform description for this mod to confirm, so exactly how the casts are made and used beyond these quests is unverified. The sources also don't show it on the ATM Star quest path.

How do you get started with Silent Gear Metalworks?

2 parts

Silent Gear Metalworks is the bridge between Silent Gear and the foundry in this pack. The first thing to know is the rule shown on the blueprint tooltips: all metal and gem tool parts require casting in a foundry from Productive Metalworks. So before you build Silent Gear tools, you make casts.[3]

Step by step

  1. Pick the tool or piece of jewelry you want first. Every one has its own cast, for example Knife Cast, Bow Cast, Hammer Cast or Ring Cast.[4]
  2. Get the matching Silent Gear part. A cast is made from the part for that tool, such as the knife blade for the knife cast or the bow limbs for the bow cast.[4]
  3. Get some molten steel. The pack's cast recipes accept any fluid in the molten steel tag.[4]
  4. Cast the part with that molten steel in the foundry to get your cast. These recipes were changed by the pack, so don't rely on what you remember from other modpacks.[4]
  5. Follow the Gearing Up quests. Each quest lists the Silent Gear blueprint for a tool together with its cast, so they work as a checklist.[2]

Here is the in-pack recipe for the knife cast, which is a good first one to try.[4]

The bow cast follows the same pattern, just with a different part.[4]

Using the quests

Most of the Gearing Up quests, such as "Knife Blueprint" quest for the knife and "Bow Blueprint" quest for the bow, ask for a blueprint and its cast. The arrow quest, "Custom Arrows" quest, asks for the fletching blueprint, the arrow blueprint and the arrow cast.[2]

Jewelry sits in a separate branch of the chapter. "Necklace Blueprint" quest covers the necklace, "Ring Blueprint" quest the ring and "Bracelet Blueprint" quest the bracelet. Each unlocks after a different quest than the tool quests.[2]

Unverified The sources don't show how to craft the Silent Gear parts themselves, or how to build the foundry and make your first molten steel. Check those in-game with the recipe viewer before you plan your first cast. This site does hold FTB Skies 2's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How does Silent Gear Metalworks work?

5 parts

Silent Gear Metalworks doesn't bring machines of its own, at least none that show up in the sources. It plugs Silent Gear into the foundry from Productive Metalworks, and everything below runs through that foundry's recipe types: melting, casting and alloying.[3][4]

Tip: The mod's own blueprint tooltip says it plainly: all metal and gem tool parts require casting in a foundry from Productive Metalworks.[3]

Molten fluids

The mod adds a molten fluid, with a bucket for it, for a long list of metals and gems. These include Molten Uru Metal, Molten Crimson Steel, Molten Tyrian Steel, Molten Ruby, Molten Sapphire and Molten White Diamond. Fluid is what you move around and cast from, so this is where your item and fluid handling starts.[3]

Many recipes accept "any" fluid from a shared tag, for example any molten Uru metal or any molten steel, rather than one specific fluid.[4]

Melting

Melting turns items into fluid. In this pack, the azure electrum, azure silver and blaze gold dusts each melt into 90 units of their molten metal. The pack changed these recipes.[4]

There are also melting recipes named after the Productive Bees Uru metal comb and comb block. They give 10 and 40 units of Molten Uru Metal. The pack changed these too.[4]

Counted across the pack, 34 melting recipes of this kind produce items from this mod, with 7 different results.[4]

Alloying

Alloying combines several fluids into one. The pack changed all three alloys this mod adds: Molten Azure Electrum, Molten Blaze Gold and Molten Crimson Steel. These are the pack's exact recipes:[4]

90× Molten Azure ElectrumChanged by the pack

Fluid Alloying (productivemetalworks)

  • 360× any molten azure silver
  • 100× any molten ender
  • 180× any molten gold

  • 200× any molten blaze
  • 810× any molten crimson iron
  • 100× any molten magma cream

Recipe id: productivemetalworks:alloying/molten_crimson_steel

Casting Uru metal

Casting turns fluid back into items. For Uru metal, the amounts are 90 units for an Uru Metal Ingot and 10 for an Uru Metal Nugget. A full Uru Metal Block takes 810 units. The pack changed all three recipes. The ingot and nugget recipes use an ingot cast and a nugget cast from Productive Metalworks, and the block is a block casting recipe.[4]

The mod's own Uru part recipes use different fluid amounts depending on the part: 90 units for arrow heads, 270 for an axe head and 360 for boot plates. These are unchanged mod recipes.[4]

Casts

The mod adds a cast item for each Silent Gear part type, such as Arrow Cast, Axe Cast and Boots Cast. There are also casts for bows, swords, rings, shields and many more tools and accessories.[3]

In this pack, those three casts are made by casting a Silent Gear part, using 360 units of any molten steel. The pack changed all three recipes.[4]

In total, 34 item casting recipes take Silent Gear items and fluids and make items from this mod. A further 33 casting recipes make both this mod's items and Silent Gear items.[4]

How do you progress through Silent Gear Metalworks?

4 parts

In this pack, the mod's progression has two strands. The quest book has you collect Silent Gear blueprints alongside the matching casts from this mod, and the recipes give you a chain of molten alloys that ends in Uru Metal. The sources don't name any official tiers, so the order below is what the pack's quests and recipes show.[2][4]

The gearing up quests

Each quest in the gearing_up chapter that touches this mod asks for two items: a Silent Gear blueprint and the matching cast. Most of them come after the same earlier quest. The jewelry ones come after a different one.[2]

Making casts

Every cast is made by item casting: you take the matching Silent Gear part and cast a molten steel fluid onto it. The pack changed these recipes. The pickaxe cast is a good example, and the other casts follow the same pattern, each with its own part.[4]

Pickaxe CastChanged by the pack

Item Casting (productivemetalworks)

Recipe id: sgearmetalworks:casting/pickaxe_cast

The pack's pickaxe cast recipe uses the Pickaxe Head part; other casts swap in their own part.

The alloy chain

This mod adds several molten metals, and the pack changed their melting and alloying recipes. Crimson Iron and Azure Silver can be melted from ores, raw materials, ingots, nuggets, dusts and storage blocks. From there you alloy upward: Molten Blaze Gold, Molten Crimson Steel and Molten Azure Electrum are the first alloys in the chain.[4]

270× Molten Crimson SteelChanged by the pack

Fluid Alloying (productivemetalworks)

  • 200× any molten blaze
  • 810× any molten crimson iron
  • 100× any molten magma cream

  • 100× any molten ender
  • 180× any molten gold

Recipe id: productivemetalworks:alloying/molten_azure_electrum

Azure Electrum is alloyed from molten Azure Silver plus other molten inputs.

Molten Tyrian Steel sits one step above those. Its alloy recipe takes both molten Crimson Steel and molten Azure Electrum as inputs, along with molten ancient debris and molten shulker shell.[4]

Fluid Alloying (productivemetalworks)

  • 100× any molten ancient debri
  • 90× any molten azure electrum
  • 90× any molten crimson steel
  • 100× any molten shulker shell

Recipe id: productivemetalworks:alloying/molten_tyrian_steel

Uru Metal

Molten Uru Metal is the top of this chain in the recipes. The pack changed its alloy recipe, which takes molten Tyrian Steel and molten Azure Electrum among its inputs.[4]

90× Molten Uru MetalChanged by the pack

Fluid Alloying (productivemetalworks)

  • 180× any meat
  • 100× any molten ancient debri
  • 90× any molten azure electrum
  • 180× any molten heavy core
  • 100× any molten shulker shell
  • 90× any molten tyrian steel

Recipe id: productivemetalworks:alloying/molten_uru_metal

Once you have it, you can cast it into Uru Metal Ingot, Uru Metal Nugget or Uru Metal Block. The ingot casting recipe is shown below. The mod's own melting recipes turn Uru Metal items back into molten metal.[4]

How does Silent Gear Metalworks work with other mods?

4 parts

Silent Gear Metalworks connects to two other mods in this pack: Silent Gear, whose parts the casts are made from and turn back into, and Productive Metalworks, whose item casting recipes do the pouring. The pack's quest book also asks for the casts next to Silent Gear blueprints.[2][4]

Making casts from Silent Gear parts

Each cast in this mod is made by pouring molten steel over the matching finished Silent Gear part. These are Productive Metalworks item casting recipes, and the pack has changed them. The Axe Head gives the Axe Cast, and the same pattern covers parts such as the Pickaxe Head, the Sword Blade and the Ring Shank.[4]

Axe CastChanged by the pack

Item Casting (productivemetalworks)

Recipe id: sgearmetalworks:casting/axe_cast

The pack changed this recipe, and the other tool, weapon, armor and jewelry casts follow the same pattern.

Turning casts back into parts

Going the other way, the mod has its own gear casting recipe type. A cast goes in and the matching Silent Gear part comes out, so the Axe Cast gives back the Axe Head. The pack has changed these recipes too. They cover tool heads, blades, limbs and armor plates, and also the Tip Upgrade and the Tool Rod.[4]

Uru metal

Uru metal is cast through Productive Metalworks too. The Ingot Cast with molten Uru metal produces an Uru Metal Ingot, and the Nugget Cast produces an Uru Metal Nugget. Both recipes are marked as changed by the pack.[4]

One more route mixes all three mods. A Tyrian Steel Ingot cast with molten Uru metal lists an Uru Metal Ingot and a Silent Gear part as its results, for example the Arrow Heads or the Mace Core. These are the mod's own recipes, and the sources do not show the pack changing them.[4]

Quests that pair blueprints with casts

The "gearing_up" quest chapter pairs Silent Gear blueprints with the matching cast from this mod. Each quest has a blueprint task and a cast task. Examples are "Shield Blueprint" quest for the shield and "Bow Blueprint" quest for the bow. "Custom Arrows" quest asks for the fletching and arrow blueprints plus the Arrow Cast.[2]

The necklace, ring and bracelet quests ("Necklace Blueprint" quest, "Ring Blueprint" quest and "Bracelet Blueprint" quest) come after a different quest than the tool and weapon ones.[2]

Tip: The casting recipes for casts need the finished Silent Gear part, so get the part first. The quests ask for both the blueprint and the cast.[2][4]

Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Silent Gear Metalworks?

2 parts

This mod shows up in one quest chapter in the pack: gearing_up. Every quest there follows the same pattern. You hand in the Silent Gear blueprint for a gear type, plus the matching cast from this mod. The quests are untitled in the pack files, so they are listed below by their quest refs.[2]

The chapter has no strict single line from first to last. Most quests unlock from one shared earlier quest, so once that is done you can take them in any order you like. The jewelry quests unlock from a different earlier quest.[2]

Weapons, tools and ammo

These quests all unlock from the same earlier quest in the chapter, so none of them is gated behind another.[2]

Jewelry

The jewelry quests sit behind a different earlier quest in the chapter, so they open up on their own track, separate from the weapons and tools above.[2]

Since each quest checks for a blueprint and its cast together, it helps to line up the casts you want before you start ticking quests off.[2]
