What is Expanded AE?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Expanded AE is an add-on for Applied Energistics 2. It adds quality-of-life features, including some from older AE2 versions you might miss, and it mostly makes pattern handling less painful. This pack includes version 2.1.1.[1][2][3]

It's for you if you've started automating with AE2 and are tired of running out of pattern slots or juggling workarounds around your machines.[1]

What it adds

  • ME Expanded Pattern Provider is a bigger Pattern Provider that holds up to 72 patterns. It also comes as a cable part, Expanded Pattern Provider.[4]
  • Pattern Providers get a button that multiplies or divides all the patterns inside them, and the multipliers stack.[5]
  • Two extra blocking modes for Pattern Providers. Full won't push a pattern if the connected storage contains anything. Smart lets the provider push the same pattern again if the storage only holds the inputs of that specific pattern.[5]
  • Expanded Pattern Encoding Terminal and its wireless version, Wireless Expanded Pattern Encoding Terminal, upgrade the original encoding terminal. They add in-terminal multiplication buttons, and shift-clicking while encoding moves the pattern into your inventory.[6]
  • Auto Complete Card is an upgrade for Pattern Providers that cancels the craft once the pattern has been pushed.[7]
  • Pattern Refiller Card refills the blank pattern slot in the Expanded Encoding Terminal. It only tries to refill each time you click the encode button.[7]
Watch out: The Auto Complete Card will break with crafting patterns, so be careful where you use it.[7]

Where it fits in the pack

Unverified The sources show no ATM Star path or quests involving this mod, so it isn't part of the guided progression. Treat it as an optional AE2 upgrade you can pick up whenever your pattern setups outgrow the basics.

How do you get started with Expanded AE?

5 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Expanded AE is an add-on to Applied Energistics 2 that adds quality-of-life features. For now it only adds a few things, mostly around patterns and crafting, so here is the order I'd tackle them in.[1][3]

The Expanded Pattern Encoding Terminal

Start with the Expanded Pattern Encoding Terminal. It's an upgrade of the normal pattern terminal. Shift-clicking while you encode moves the finished pattern straight into your inventory, and it has multiplication buttons built into the terminal. The recipe is the mod's own, and it starts from the regular ME Pattern Encoding Terminal.[6][8]

Once you have a wireless setup, the Wireless Expanded Pattern Encoding Terminal is the portable version. This pack changed its recipe, so follow the one shown here and not what you remember from elsewhere.[6][8]

The Expanded Pattern Provider

Next comes the ME Expanded Pattern Provider. It can hold up to 72 patterns. This pack changed its recipe, and it builds on the Extended version of the provider.[4][8]

Already have pattern providers set up? The mod's project page lists the Expanded Pattern Provider Upgrade among what it includes at the moment: it upgrades an existing provider while keeping the patterns in it. The pack changed this recipe too.[1][8]

The block and the cable part (Expanded Pattern Provider) can be converted into each other with a single-item shapeless craft.[4][8]

Learn the provider's new tricks

The mod adds a button to the pattern provider that lets you multiply or divide all the patterns it contains, and the multipliers stack. The in-game tooltips say left click multiplies and right click divides, with Shift giving 2x and Ctrl giving 8x.[5][9]

You also get two extra blocking modes on top of the default AE2 one. Full won't push a pattern if the connected storage contains anything at all. Smart lets the provider push the same pattern again as long as the storage only holds inputs from that specific pattern.[5]

Upgrade cards

At the moment the mod adds two upgrade cards. The Pattern Refiller Card refills the blank pattern slot in the Expanded Encoding Terminal. It only tries to refill each time you click the encode button.[7][8]

In the mod's current version, the Auto Complete Card is an upgrade for pattern providers that automatically cancels the craft once the pattern has been pushed.[7][8]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: expandedae:crafting/auto_complete_card

Watch out: The in-game guide warns that the Auto Complete Card breaks with crafting patterns, so be careful where you use it. Its tooltip also says it only works for single requests.[7][9]

Crafting Co-Processing Units

When your crafting jobs start to drag, look at the Co-Processing Units. The project page lists them from 2x up to 1M cores among what the mod includes at the moment. In this pack the Expanded Crafting Unit has a changed recipe that builds on the MEGA Crafting Unit.[1][8]

From that unit you make the 2x Crafting Co-Processing Unit, which is your entry point to the whole line.[8]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: expandedae:crafting/exp_crafting_accelerator_2

After that you climb tier by tier. The plain tiers run up to 512x Crafting Co-Processing Unit, then the K tiers continue up to the 1M Crafting Co-Processing Unit. Every tier has its own recipe in the pack, and here is the 4x as an example.[8]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: expandedae:crafting/exp_crafting_accelerator_4

The same pattern applies to the other tiers, each with its own recipe in the pack.

Tip: The Greater Acceleration Card is an even stronger acceleration card, but its tooltip warns that it's very power hungry. Make sure your energy supply can handle it before you use it.[8][9]

How does Expanded AE work?

6 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Expanded AE is an add-on for Applied Energistics 2 that brings back some quality of life features from older AE2 versions and expands on what exists. Everything below plugs into the AE2 crafting and pattern setup you already know.[1][3]

Expanded Pattern Providers

The ME Expanded Pattern Provider is a bigger Pattern Provider that holds up to 72 patterns. It also comes as a cable part, Expanded Pattern Provider. That means you don't need workarounds when one machine needs lots of patterns.[1][4]

The project page also lists an upgrade item that lets you upgrade existing pattern providers while keeping the patterns inside them.[1]

Pattern multiplication

Pattern Providers get a button that multiplies or divides every pattern inside them in one go. The multipliers stack, so you can click repeatedly to scale a whole provider up or down.[5]

Left click multiplies and right click divides. Holding Shift gives a 2x multiplier and holding Ctrl gives 8x.[9]

Blocking modes

The mod adds two extra blocking modes to all Pattern Providers, on top of the standard AE2 one. Here is how they behave:[5]

  • Default: the AE2 behaviour. The provider pushes the pattern if the connected storage holds none of this provider's pattern inputs. Anything that isn't a pattern input is ignored, so the pattern is still pushed.[5]
  • Full: the provider won't push the pattern if the connected storage contains anything at all.[5]
  • Smart: the provider can push the same pattern again if the target storage only contains inputs from that specific pattern.[5]

Expanded Pattern Encoding Terminal

The Expanded Pattern Encoding Terminal upgrades the standard encoding terminal. Shift clicking while encoding moves the finished pattern straight into your inventory. It also has multiplication buttons built into the terminal.[1][6]

There is also a wireless version, the Wireless Expanded Pattern Encoding Terminal. The pack changed its recipe from the mod's default, so use this one:[8]

Crafting Shaped

Crafting Shaped
Wireless Receiver
Expanded Pattern Encoding Terminal
Dense Energy Cell

Recipe id: expandedae:ae2wtlib/wireless_exp_encoding_terminal

Upgrade cards

The in-game guide says the mod currently adds two upgrade cards.[7]

The Auto Complete Card goes into a Pattern Provider and automatically cancels the craft once the pattern has been pushed. Its tooltip says it only works for single requests.[7][9]

Watch out: The guide warns that the Auto Complete Card will break with crafting patterns, so keep it out of providers that hold them.[7]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: expandedae:crafting/auto_complete_card

The Pattern Refiller Card automatically refills the blank pattern slot in the Expanded Encoding Terminal. It only tries to refill each time you click the encode button, which the guide says was the most resource efficient solution. The project page lists it for the wireless terminal.[1][7][9]

Crafting Co-Processing Units

The mod adds Co-Processing Units for your crafting CPUs, ranging from 2x all the way up to 1M cores. In this pack the tiers form a chain, and each tier is crafted by upgrading the one before it.[1][8]

  1. Start with the 2x Crafting Co-Processing Unit, the entry point of the chain. Its recipe is below.[8]
  2. Climb the x-series by doubling each time: 4x Crafting Co-Processing Unit, then 8x, 16x, 32x, 64x, 128x, 256x and 512x Crafting Co-Processing Unit.[8]
  3. The 1K Crafting Co-Processing Unit comes next, upgraded from the 512x unit.[8]
  4. Continue through 2K, 4K, 8K, 16K, 32K, 64K, 128K, 256K and 512K Crafting Co-Processing Unit, again one tier at a time.[8]
  5. The final step is the 1M Crafting Co-Processing Unit, upgraded from the 512K unit.[8]

The pack changed the recipe for the Expanded Crafting Unit, which feeds the start of the chain. This is the in-pack version:[8]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: expandedae:crafting/exp_crafting_accelerator_2

The entry point for the whole co-processor chain.

Tip: Every step up the chain uses a single unit of the previous tier, so you only need to build the first unit from scratch. Every later tier comes from upgrading it.[8]

How do you progress through Expanded AE?

4 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Expanded AE is an add-on that builds on Applied Energistics 2. In this pack you progress through it by crafting, and the recipes below show the order that makes sense: start with the encoding terminal and the cards, then move to pattern providers and the co-processing units.[3][8]

Unverified The sources give no quest chain for this mod, so there is no confirmed quest order to follow. The tiers below come from the in-pack recipes and the in-game guide only. This site does hold All the Mods 10: To the Sky's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

Tier 1: Pattern encoding

The Expanded Pattern Encoding Terminal is an upgrade to the normal AE2 pattern terminal. It lets you shift-click while encoding to move the pattern straight to your inventory, and it adds multiplication buttons inside the terminal. It is built from the normal ME Pattern Encoding Terminal plus processors.[6][8]

Pattern providers and IO

The ME Expanded Pattern Provider is a bigger pattern provider that can hold up to 72 patterns. It comes as a full block and as a part. The pack changed its main recipe, which upgrades an Extended AE pattern provider.[4][8]

The ME Expanded IO Port is another recipe the pack changed. It builds on an Extended AE IO Port together with the Greater Acceleration Card.[8]

Tier 4: Co-Processing Units

This is the longest ladder. Everything starts with the Expanded Crafting Unit, and the pack changed its recipe to build on the MEGA Crafting Unit from MEGA Cells.[8]

Your first co-processor is the 2x Crafting Co-Processing Unit, made from the Expanded Crafting Unit and an Engineering Processor.[8]

Crafting Shapeless

After that, each tier is crafted from the one before it. The first run goes 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x, 32x, 64x, 128x, 256x and 512x. The 512x unit then leads to the 1K Crafting Co-Processing Unit, and the K run continues through 2K, 4K, 8K, 16K, 32K, 64K, 128K, 256K and 512K. The final step is the 1M Crafting Co-Processing Unit, made from the 512K unit.[8]

How does Expanded AE work with other mods?

4 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Expanded AE is an add-on for Applied Energistics 2, so most of its crafting runs through AE2 parts. In this pack it also has recipes that pull in items from MEGA Cells, ExtendedAE and AE2 Wireless Terminal Library. Everything below comes from the in-pack recipes.[3][8]

Applied Energistics 2 parts

The Expanded Pattern Encoding Terminal is a step up from the regular ME Pattern Encoding Terminal. This is the mod's own recipe, and the pack hasn't changed it. The exact recipe is below.[6][8]

Crafting Shaped

AE2 parts go in here, including the Calculation Processor and the Logic Processor.

The upgrade cards also start from AE2 parts. The Auto Complete Card combines an Advanced Card with a Crafting Card. The Greater Acceleration Card is an upgrade of the Acceleration Card. The Pattern Refiller Card uses an Advanced Card, a Blank Pattern and an Engineering Processor. These are all unchanged mod recipes.[8]

MEGA Cells

The pack changed how you get the Expanded Crafting Unit. Its recipe now runs through MEGA Cells parts, so you need to be into MEGA Cells before you can expand your crafting setup with this mod. The exact recipe is below.[8]

ExtendedAE

The pack ties the big pattern provider, its upgrade item and the IO port to ExtendedAE, and it changed these recipes. The first two are shown below with the ME Extended Pattern Provider and the Concurrent Processor as the ExtendedAE parts, and the ME Expanded IO Port follows the ME Extended IO Port and the Greater Acceleration Card. The items are the ME Expanded Pattern Provider and the Expanded Pattern Provider Upgrade.[8]

What changed in Expanded AE between versions?

All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 ships Expanded AE 2.1.1 (the file expandedae-2.1.1.jar). The mod has been in the pack since version 1.7 or earlier, so it's not a recent addition.[10]

The mod's own changelog for 2.1.1 is very short. It only says there are lots of changes and points you to the mod's GitHub or CurseForge page for the detailed list. So I can't tell you what changed in that release from here.[11]

Unverified No pack changelog entries for Expanded AE are available, so which pack releases updated the mod, and from which versions, is unconfirmed.
