What is Extended AE?

2 parts

Extended AE is an add-on for Applied Energistics 2 that streamlines storage and crafting workflows. It brings some classic AE features from older Minecraft versions back to modern AE. The pack ships the NeoForge build 1.21-2.2.18.[1][2][3]

It is for you if you already run an AE2 network and want more throughput and less clutter. The mod page highlights a 36-slot Pattern Provider and Interface, import and export buses that are 8x faster, and an Extended Pattern Access Terminal for a bigger autocrafting UI.[1]

Big crafting upgrades

The headline machine is the Assembler Matrix, a multiblock that runs a lot of crafting jobs at once and saves you channels. Each pattern core gives 36 pattern slots, each craft core runs 8 crafting jobs at the same time, and 5 speed cores already give full speed. Extra speed cores beyond that add nothing. You build it from parts like the Assembler Matrix Frame.[4]

If the inscriber feels slow, the Circuit Slicer slices material blocks straight into processor prints and is 9x faster than the inscriber at most times. The ME Canner fills containers with fluids by default, and can drain them in Empty mode.[5][6]

The Entro system

Most of the mod's items and machines are built around the Entro Crystal. You get it by turning fluix into Entroized Fluix Budding and harvesting the Entro Cluster. Many of the devices are too complex for a crafting table, so you will craft most of them in the Crystal Assembler, which also handles certain in-world transformations such as fluix transformation.[7][8]

Unverified The sources do not show where this mod fits into the pack's progression, so that is unconfirmed here. Treat the Entro crystal route as your starting point for unlocking the mod's machines.

How do you get started with Extended AE?

6 parts

Extended AE is an add-on for Applied Energistics 2, and most of its items and machines are built from one main material: Entro Crystal. So your first job is getting a steady supply of it. Here is the order I'd go in.[1][8]

Make an Entro Seed

Craft an Entro Seed. Right-click a Fluix Block in the world with it and the block turns into Budding Entroized Fluix, which is where your crystals will grow.[9][10]

Tip: The pack also has a Crystal Assembler recipe that injects a seed into a Fluix Block for you. It gives a lower grade of budding block than right-clicking by hand: the result is Budding Mostly Entroized Fluix.[9][11]

Grow and harvest Entro Crystals

Budding Entroized Fluix grows buds much like Certus Quartz does, and you harvest the Entro Cluster to get Entro Crystals. If you break a bud before it is fully grown, you get Entro Shard instead, and shards can be crafted back into a crystal.[8][11][12][13]

Watch out: Unlike Certus Quartz, the degradation of Budding Entroized Fluix is unavoidable, and it eventually turns into something else.[12]

There is also a transformation shortcut that turns a Fluix Crystal plus Entro Dust into an Entro Crystal. You get the dust by crushing an Entro Crystal in an inscriber or by breaking the budding block.[11][14]

Make Entro Infused Ingots

Entro Crystal is too brittle for machine frames, so it gets fused with gold into an Entro Infused Ingot. The pack changed this transformation recipe, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's default.[11][15]

Where to go next

The Concurrent Processor is a good next target, since multi-thread machines use it. The pack changed the Crystal Assembler version of this recipe, so check it before you gather materials. An inscriber route exists as well.[11][17]

After that, the ME Extended Interface is a natural upgrade for your network, and it is crafted in the Crystal Assembler too. The faster ME Extended Import Bus and ME Extended Export Bus have more upgrade slots than the normal buses and also have Crystal Assembler recipes.[11][18][19]

How does Extended AE work?

6 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 guide

Extended AE is an add-on for Applied Energistics 2, so everything here plugs into your normal ME network. Most of its machines are either bigger versions of AE2 devices or parallel crafters that save you channels and time. Here is how the main systems behave in this pack.[1]

Assembler Matrix (the multiblock)

The Assembler Matrix is the mod's multiblock. It can run a lot of crafting jobs at the same time and saves channels. The shape is a rectangular prism with edge lengths between 3 and 7. The edges use Assembler Matrix Frame, the faces use Assembler Matrix Wall or Assembler Matrix Glass, and the interior holds pattern, craft and speed cores.[4]

A valid matrix must contain at least one pattern core and craft core. It must be completely filled and can't be hollow. When it is correctly formed and powered, the lines on the frame turn blue, which is your quick check that it works. Right-click a formed, online matrix to open its GUI, where you can put in or search patterns and see how many jobs it is running.[4]

  • Pattern Core: the matrix only takes patterns from its pattern cores, and each one gives 36 pattern slots.[4]
  • Craft Core: the matrix hands incoming crafting jobs to its craft cores, and each one runs 8 jobs at the same time.[4]
  • Speed Core: 5 speed cores give full speed, and extra ones past 5 add nothing.[4]

The pack changed the recipes for the frame, wall and glass, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults. The recipes below are the ones used in this pack.[20]

Crafting and processing machines

The Crystal Assembler crafts most of the mod's extended devices, because they are too complex for a crafting table. It can also do certain in-world transformation recipes, such as fluix transformation. Its screen face can't connect to the network.[7]

  • Extended Molecular Assembler runs 8 crafting jobs at once and is 2x faster than the normal Molecular Assembler. You can't put a pattern into it directly.[21]
  • Extended Inscriber runs 4 inscribing jobs at once. It has a button to change its max stack size, and setting that to 1 is suggested when you use it with automation to avoid possible issues.[22]
  • Circuit Slicer slices material blocks straight into processor prints, and is 9x faster than the inscriber at most times. Glass faces without a port can't connect to the network.[6]
  • ME Extended IO Port works 8x faster than the normal IO Port and has more upgrade slots.[23]
  • Extended Charger can charge 4 items at the same time.[24]

Storage, interfaces and pattern handling

  • ME Extended Pattern Provider is a Pattern Provider with a larger pattern inventory, so you can keep all your patterns in one block instead of building subnets.[25]
  • ME Extended Interface is an Interface with a larger config inventory.[18]
  • ME Oversize Interface has the same number of slots as a normal interface, but each slot holds x16 more items, so 1,024 (64x16) per slot. The multiplier is configurable, and certain items from other mods can have their own multiplier. The pack ships no config file for this mod, so I can't confirm whether the pack changes it.[26]
  • ME Extended Drive is a Drive with a larger cell inventory that holds 20 storage cells.[27]
  • ME Ingredient Buffer is a storage block that holds 36 types of anything, from items to fluids.[28]

To swap your existing AE2 devices for the extended versions without breaking them, use the upgrade items. Sneak and right-click the device, and it becomes its extended version with all settings and inventory kept. This covers pattern providers, interfaces, import/export buses, the pattern access terminal and drives.[29]

Crafting Shapeless

  • any extended pattern provider

Recipe id: extendedae:ex_pattern_provider_upgrade

The ME Extended Pattern Access Terminal adds searching by input or output ingredient names. It can also highlight a matched pattern in the GUI, and highlight a Pattern Provider in the world, which helps when you need to find a stuck provider during a big crafting job.[30]

Item and fluid I/O

The ME Extended Import Bus and ME Extended Export Bus work faster than the normal buses and have more upgrade slots. The default speed multiplier is 8 and it is configurable, so I can't confirm the pack's value.[19]

The specialized buses give you more precise automation:[31][32][33][34][35][36][37]

The ME Threshold Level Emitter works like a set/reset latch. With a lower threshold of 100 and an upper of 150, it turns on once the amount goes over 150. It stays on while the amount falls, and only turns off when it drops below 100.[38]

The ME Active Formation Plane places blocks or drops items, and the ME Smart Annihilation Plane breaks blocks or absorbs items based on its config inventory. Neither needs a subnet.[39][40]

The ME Canner fills containers: the first slot holds what to fill with and the second holds the container to fill. It costs 80 AE per operation and only fills fluids by default. Other kinds need addons, namely Applied Flux, Applied Mekanistics or Applied Botanics Addon. I can't confirm from the sources which of these are in this pack.[5]

Only its top and bottom sides accept energy and connect to the network. For autocrafting, the pattern should contain only the thing to fill and the container to fill. The Canner auto-ejects the finished item. To drain containers, use Empty mode and swap the inputs and outputs in the pattern.[5]

The ME Wireless Connector links two networks one-to-one. It has a limited range and can't cross dimensions. Link two connectors by clicking each with the ME Wireless Setup Kit. Connectors can be colored like cables and only connect to the same color. Power cost rises as the distance grows, on a curve that isn't linear, so very distant links get expensive. Each power-saving card reduces the cost by 10%.[41]

For many-to-many links, use the ME Wireless Hub, which has 8 ports and can connect up to 8 hubs or connectors at once. It picks a free port automatically. When all ports are taken, you need to disconnect one manually with the X button.[41][42]

Entro growth

Most extended items depend on Entro Crystal, which grows from Budding Entroized Fluix in a way similar to Certus Quartz. To start, craft an Entro Seed and right-click a Fluix Block with it to turn it into Budding Entroized Fluix. Unlike Certus, the degradation of the budding block is unavoidable.[9][12][43]

How do you progress through Extended AE?

5 parts

Unverified The sources here do not show any quests for this mod, so there is no quest chapter to follow. The order below is built from the in-pack recipes and what each machine unlocks.

First step: Entro and the Extended Machine Frame

Everything starts with Entro. The Extended Machine Frame needs an infused Entro ingot, so the Entro Infused Ingot is your first goal. In this pack, the reaction recipes for the ingot and for the Entro Crystal are both marked as changed by the pack, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults.[11]

Next: Crystal Assembler and Concurrent Processors

Most extended devices are too complex for a crafting table, so you need the Crystal Assembler to make them. It can also do certain in-world transformation recipes, like fluix transformation.[7]

Extended devices and upgrades

With the Concurrent Processor in hand you can build extended versions of your AE2 gear, such as the ME Extended Drive, Extended Molecular Assembler, Extended Inscriber, ME Extended Interface and ME Extended IO Port. All of these are Crystal Assembler recipes.[11]

Crystal Assembler (extendedae)

Recipe id: extendedae:assembler/ex_drive

You don't have to tear down your network to switch over. The upgrade items (Pattern Provider Upgrade, Interface Upgrade, Import/Export Bus Upgrade, Pattern Access Terminal Upgrade and Drive Upgrade) turn normal devices into extended ones when you Sneak + Right Click them. Settings and inventory are kept.[44]

Tip: The Circuit Slicer slices material blocks straight into processor prints and is 9x faster than an inscriber at most times. Its recipe uses the Inscriber Concurrent Press from earlier, so it fits well here if you're building lots of processors.[6][11]

The Assembler Matrix

The Assembler Matrix is a multiblock that runs many crafting jobs at once and saves you channels. It's a rectangular prism with edge lengths between 3 and 7. The edges are Assembler Matrix Frame, the faces are Assembler Matrix Wall or Assembler Matrix Glass, and the interior is filled with cores. It can't be hollow.[4]

The ME Canner fills fluids by default. Each operation costs 80 AE, and other resource types need an addon installed. The ME Active Formation Plane places blocks or drops items without needing a subnet. Both are Crystal Assembler recipes.[5][11][39]

How does Extended AE work with other mods?

5 parts

Extended AE is an add-on for Applied Energistics 2, so almost everything it adds plugs into AE2 parts. The pack also links it to a few other mods, and several of those links use recipes the pack has changed. Here's what the recipes show.[1][11]

Applied Energistics 2

The Crystal Assembler is the gateway machine. Its own recipe uses AE2 parts, and it crafts most of the extended devices because they are too complex for a crafting table. It can also do some in-world transformations, such as fluix transformation.[7][11]

The Circuit Slicer is also built with AE2's inscriber presses. It slices material blocks straight into processor prints, and it is up to 9x faster than an inscriber most of the time.[6][11]

The Assembler Matrix cores are Crystal Assembler recipes built on AE2 parts. Each pattern core provides 36 pattern slots, each craft core can run 8 crafting jobs at the same time, and 5 speed cores let the matrix run at full speed.[4][11]

Advanced AE

Crystal Assembler (extendedae)

Wireless terminals

The pack has changed the combine recipes that merge the Wireless Extended Pattern Access Terminal with the AE2 wireless crafting terminal, the wireless pattern access terminal and the wireless pattern encoding terminal. These recipes are handled through AE2WTLib. The dump doesn't show their outputs, so check the recipe viewer in game for the exact result.[11]

Mekanism, Productive Bees and All the Compressed

ME Canner and addons

The ME Canner only fills fluids by default. To fill other things such as Mekanism gas, Botania mana or energy, you need a matching addon: Applied Flux, Applied Mekanistics or Applied Botanics Addon.[5]
