What is Applied Energistics 2 Wireless Terminals?

2 parts

Applied Energistics 2 Wireless Terminals (ae2wtlib) is an addon for AE2 that adds wireless versions of several terminals, so you can use your ME network without standing next to it. This pack ships version 19.2.5.[1][2]

What you get

  • Wireless versions of the crafting, pattern encoding and pattern access terminals.[3]
  • A Wireless Universal Terminal that combines several wireless terminals into one item. A button in its UI cycles between them, and each installed terminal adds 2 upgrade slots.[1][4]
  • Extras on the Wireless Crafting Terminal: automatic restocking from your ME system, and Pick Block that draws items from the network when they are not in your inventory.[5]
  • Restocking tries to keep the stack you are using at half the stack size, which is 32 for most items. It works within range of an access point or when the terminal is quantum linked.[6]

Going anywhere with the Quantum Bridge Card

The Quantum Bridge Card is the upgrade that makes these terminals shine. It links a terminal to a Quantum Bridge on your network, so the terminal works from anywhere, even across dimensions, and recharges from your network's energy. The chunks holding your network still need to be loaded, and your network needs enough energy storage.[1][7]

The pack has a quest for it in the Applied Energistics 2 chapter: a quest in "?" asks you to obtain the Quantum Bridge Card, and it unlocks after two earlier quests in that chapter.[8]

How do you get started with Applied Energistics 2 Wireless Terminals?

4 parts

AE2wtlib adds wireless versions of Applied Energistics 2 terminals, so you can use your ME network without standing next to it. Here is the order I'd go in on this pack, starting with the basics and ending with the upgrades that make the terminals really shine.[1][3]

Start with the Wireless Crafting Terminal

The Wireless Crafting Terminal is the wireless version of the crafting terminal. On top of vanilla AE2 it adds automatic restocking from your ME network, and Pick Block can draw items from the network if they aren't in your inventory. It also stores items if your current slot happens to be full.[5]

Restock tries to keep the stack you're using at half the stack size, so 32 for most items. It won't restock a stack that holds only a single item before you use it. It only works while you're in range of an access point, or if the terminal is quantum linked (more on that below).[6]

Add the pattern terminals

Once you're automating, you'll want your patterns in your pocket too. The Wireless Pattern Encoding Terminal is a wireless version of the ME Pattern Encoding Terminal. Here's the main recipe:[3][9]

There is also an upgrade recipe that starts from a Wireless Crafting Terminal, handy if you already have one.[9]

The Wireless Pattern Access Terminal is the wireless version of the ME Pattern Access Terminal:[3][9]

Tip: You can combine AE2wtlib wireless terminals into one Wireless Universal Terminal, which has a button to cycle between them. Each installed terminal adds 2 upgrade slots, and the energy storage adds up too. AE2's own wireless terminal can not be combined into it.[3][4]

Get the Quantum Bridge Card

This is the big upgrade. With the Quantum Bridge Card, your terminal can reach your network from anywhere, even across dimensions, and recharges from your network automatically. This pack has a quest for it, a quest in "?", in the applied_energistics_2 chapter.[7][8]

Crafting Shaped

ME Quantum RingME Quantum Link ChamberME Quantum Ring

Recipe id: ae2wtlib:quantum_bridge_card

To set it up, put the card and a singularity in your wireless terminal, then put the other singularity in a Quantum Bridge connected to your network. The chunks holding the network must stay loaded. Make sure the network has enough energy storage, since your terminal recharges from it.[7]

Finish with the Magnet Card

The Magnet Card adds a magnet to your Wireless Crafting Terminal. It picks up items from a larger range (default 16, configurable) and can send them straight into your ME system instead of your inventory. You can toggle each behavior separately, give each its own filter, and use a keybinding to switch it on or off.[5][10]

The pack has changed this recipe from the mod's version, so don't rely on guides written for the base mod:[9]

How does Applied Energistics 2 Wireless Terminals work?

5 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 guide

This section covers how the wireless terminals behave once you have them: how the Wireless Universal Terminal stacks terminals, how a quantum link lets a terminal reach your network from anywhere, and what restocking and the magnet do.[4][7][10][11][12]

Universal terminal and upgrades

The Wireless Universal Terminal combines several wireless terminals into one item. It adds a button to the terminal screen: left-click cycles to the next terminal and right-click goes back to the previous one.[4][13]

  • Each installed terminal adds 2 upgrade slots, and the universal terminal accepts the same upgrades as the terminals inside it.[4]
  • Adding terminals combines their energy storage, so a universal terminal with two terminals has twice the energy storage of a single wireless terminal.[4]
  • The Wireless Crafting Terminal accepts these upgrades: one that increases battery capacity, the Quantum Bridge Card for unlimited range and automatic charging, and the Magnet Card for magnet functionality.[5][13]

Like AE2's own wireless terminal, these can be opened with a keybind and placed in a curio slot, if a mod implementing the curio API is installed. They can also be linked to a network like a normal wireless terminal.[11]

Quantum linking

The Quantum Bridge Card is an upgrade card that lets a wireless terminal link to a Quantum Bridge. Put the card and one singularity in your terminal, and put the other singularity in a Quantum Bridge connected to your network.[7]

Your terminal is then quantum linked. It can reach your network from anywhere, even across dimensions, as long as the chunks holding the network stay loaded. It also recharges automatically from your network, so make sure the network has enough energy storage.[7]

Restocking and Pick Block

With Restock enabled, your terminal tries to replace items you use with items from the ME System. You can toggle it in the GUI or with a keybind.[12][13]

It keeps the stack you are using at its maximum size, 64 for most items. Missing items are taken from the ME System, and excess items go back into it if you pick up more. Your hotbar count also shows the network total plus what is actually in the hotbar.[12]

  • It will not restock a stack that holds a single item before it is used.[12]
  • It only works while you are in range of an access point, or if the terminal is quantum linked.[12]
  • In creative mode it is disabled automatically.[12]
  • It handles placing blocks, eating food and shooting a bow. Actions from other mods may not be recognised, so those items won't be restocked.[12]

The mod also improves Pick Block. If the item isn't in your inventory, it is drawn from the ME Network, and it will try to store items if your current slot happens to be full. There is also a keybind to stow the stack in your hand into the ME System.[5][13]

Magnet Card

The Magnet Card adds a magnet to the Wireless Crafting Terminal, and a keybind turns it on or off. It does two things: it picks up items in a larger range, and it sends picked up items into the ME System instead of your inventory.[10][13]

Both behaviours can be toggled separately and each has its own filter, a pickup filter and an insert filter. Either filter can be set to blacklist or whitelist mode. The GUI shows the states Pickup to Inventory, Pickup to ME, Magnet Off with Pickup to ME, and Off.[10][13]

Unverified The mod's own guide says the magnet pickup range is configurable with a default of 16. That value would be set in the mod's config, but the sources here include no config file for this mod, so the range this pack uses is unverified.

The pack changed the Magnet Card recipe from the mod's own, so use this one:[14]

Pattern terminals

The Wireless Pattern Encoding Terminal and the Wireless Pattern Access Terminal are wireless versions of the matching ME terminals, and each has its own keybind to open it. The pack uses the mod's own recipes for both.[11][13][14]

How do you progress through Applied Energistics 2 Wireless Terminals?

3 parts

This pack doesn't give the wireless terminals a rigid set of numbered tiers. The sources show a progression by function: base wireless terminals, upgrade cards that add range or a magnet, and the Wireless Universal Terminal that combines them. Here's how that plays out.[3][4][9]

Step 1: the wireless terminals

The Wireless Crafting Terminal is the wireless version of the crafting terminal. It adds automatic restocking from your ME network and lets Pick Block pull items from the network. The Wireless Pattern Encoding Terminal and Wireless Pattern Access Terminal are the wireless versions of the matching ME terminals.[3][5]

The Wireless Pattern Access Terminal has one recipe in the pack.[9]

Crafting Shapeless

Step 2: upgrade cards

The Wireless Crafting Terminal accepts upgrades that increase battery capacity, give it unlimited range, and add magnet functionality.[5]

The Quantum Bridge Card links your terminal to a Quantum Bridge. A linked terminal can reach your network from anywhere, even across dimensions, and recharges from your network. The chunks holding the network still need to be loaded, and your network needs enough energy storage.[7]

The pack has a quest for this card, a quest in "?", in the Applied Energistics 2 chapter. It asks you to obtain the Quantum Bridge Card and unlocks after two other quests in that chapter. The quest has no title in the pack files.[8]

The Magnet Card adds a magnet to your terminal. It picks up items in a larger range and can put them into the ME system instead of your inventory. Both behaviors can be toggled and filtered separately.[10]

Watch out: The pack changed the Magnet Card recipe, so don't rely on the mod's default recipe. Use the one below.[9]

Tip: Restocking only works while you're in range of an access point, or when your terminal is quantum linked. That's a good reason to get the Quantum Bridge Card early.[6]

Finally: the Wireless Universal Terminal

The Wireless Universal Terminal combines several wireless terminals into one item, and you cycle between them with a button in the UI. Each installed terminal adds 2 upgrade slots, and the energy storage adds up. With two terminals, you get twice the energy storage of a single one.[4]

All AE2WTLib terminals can be combined this way, but AE2's own wireless terminal cannot.[3][4]

How does Applied Energistics 2 Wireless Terminals work with other mods?

4 parts

Most of what this mod connects to is Applied Energistics 2 itself, since the wireless terminals are built from AE2 parts. There is also a pack-changed link to ExtendedAE, and a pack-added recipe that pulls a terminal into a multi-mod crafting chain.[1][9]

The Wireless Universal Terminal combines several wireless terminals into one item. The mod's own combine recipes pair the AE2 Wireless Crafting Terminal with the Wireless Pattern Access Terminal or the Wireless Pattern Encoding Terminal. Each terminal you install adds 2 upgrade slots and combines its energy storage with the others.[4][9]

Upgrade cards

The Quantum Bridge Card is made from AE2's quantum parts and links your terminal to an AE2 Quantum Bridge. Put the card and a Singularity in the terminal, and put the paired singularity in a Quantum Bridge on your network. The terminal then works from anywhere, even across dimensions, as long as the chunks holding the network are loaded. It also recharges from your network, so make sure the network has enough energy storage.[7][9]

The quest a quest in "?" in the Applied Energistics 2 chapter asks you to get this card.[8]

The pack changed the Magnet Card recipe, so it differs from the mod's default. The card makes your terminal pick up items from a larger range and can send them into your ME system instead of your inventory.[9][10]

ExtendedAE

Terminals from other AE2 addons can also go into the universal terminal. The pack changed both ExtendedAE combine recipes that join the Wireless Extended Pattern Access Terminal with the Wireless Pattern Access Terminal or the Wireless Pattern Encoding Terminal. The Nexium Emitter

The pack adds its own recipe for the Nexium Emitter. It takes a Wireless Universal Terminal, an AE2 Singularity, and parts from Create, Mekanism, Oritech, Powah and XNet. So the terminal is a required step in this progression item.[9]

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Applied Energistics 2 Wireless Terminals?

Only one quest in this pack touches this mod, and it lives in the Applied Energistics 2 chapter. It is a single-task quest, so there is no long questline to follow here.[8]

The quest a quest in "?" has no title in the quest book. Its task is to hand in a Quantum Bridge Card.[8]

The quest comes after two other quests in the same chapter, with the ids 0B218DD73FE8D985 and 16299B9AE87257DC. You need to complete both of them before this one unlocks.[8]

Unverified What the two prerequisite quests ask for is not shown in the available quest data, and neither are any rewards for the Quantum Bridge Card quest. Check the quest book in-game for those details.

What changed in Applied Energistics 2 Wireless Terminals between versions?

1 part

All the Mods 10: To the Sky 1.0.2 ships Applied Energistics 2 Wireless Terminals version 19.2.5 (file ae2wtlib-19.2.5.jar). The mod has been in the pack since 1.0 or earlier.[2]

19.2.5 (the version in this pack)

The notes below come from the mod's own 19.2.5 changelog. Both entries are bug fixes:[15]

  • Fixed a bug where the singularity component would cause issues when ae2wtlib is not present.[15]
  • Fixed the wireless pattern access terminal hotkey not closing the terminal when you used it inside the terminal.[15]

Unverified Pack changelog entries for this mod are not shown in the sources here, so any pack-level changes to it between releases are unverified. Check the pack's own changelogs for those.
