What is Applied Energistics 2 Wireless Terminals?

1 part

This mod is an addon for Applied Energistics 2 that adds wireless versions of several of its terminals. This pack includes version 19.5.1.[1][2]

The big feature is the Quantum Bridge Card. With it installed, a terminal can reach your network from anywhere, even across dimensions. The mod also adds the Wireless Universal Terminal, which packs all the wireless terminals into one item.[1][3]

The wireless crafting terminal can restock items from your ME network and let Pick Block pull items from it. With a Magnet Card it also acts as a magnet.[4][5][6]

Tip: A quantum linked terminal only reaches your network across dimensions if the chunks holding that network are loaded. It also recharges itself from your network, so make sure the network has enough energy storage.[3]

Where it sits in the quest book

The pack's quest book puts this mod in the "General Storage" chapter. That chapter is in the "Resources & Logistics" group, as chapter 7 of 31, and holds 146 quests. Two of its quests are about this mod:[7]

The rest of that chapter, 124 quests, is not shown here, so check the quest book itself for what follows these two quests.[7]

How do you get started with Applied Energistics 2 Wireless Terminals?

6 parts

AE2 Wireless Terminals is an Applied Energistics 2 addon that adds wireless versions of several AE2 terminals, plus a Wireless Universal Terminal that packs them into one item. Here is the order I'd go in, and why.[1][8]

Get Applied Energistics going first

Wireless terminals are only useful with an AE2 network behind them, so start with the AE2 quests. In the quest book they sit in the General Storage chapter (group Resources & Logistics, chapter 7 of 31). "Getting Started With Applied Energistics!" quest kicks things off, "A Certain Quartz" quest comes after it and covers how to get Certus Quartz, and "The AE2 Guide" quest points you to the built-in AE2 guide in JEI.[7]

Start with the Wireless Crafting Terminal

The Wireless Crafting Terminal is a wireless version of the crafting terminal. It adds automatic restocking from your ME network, and it lets Pick Block pull items from the network when they aren't in your inventory.[5]

Restock keeps the stack you are using topped up from the network, and you can toggle it in the GUI or with a keybind. It only works while you are in range of an access point or have a quantum link.[4]

Add the pattern terminals

Next come the pattern terminals, which are handy once you start autocrafting. The Wireless Pattern Encoding Terminal can be made by upgrading a Wireless Crafting Terminal, or crafted from scratch. Here are both routes:[8][9]

The in-pack recipe for the pattern access terminal.

Combine them into the Universal Terminal

The Wireless Universal Terminal merges several wireless terminals into one item, with a button in the UI to cycle between them. The quest "The Universal Wireless Terminal" quest comes after the Wireless Crafting quest and says to combine your Wireless Crafting Grid with another Wireless Terminal, like the Wireless Pattern Access Terminal.[7][10]

Each installed terminal adds 2 upgrade slots, and their energy storage adds up, so a Universal Terminal with two terminals has twice the energy storage of a single Wireless Terminal.[10]

Magnet Card

The Magnet Card is an upgrade card for your wireless terminal. It picks up items in a larger range and can place them straight into your ME system instead of your inventory. Each of those two can be toggled and filtered separately, and a keybinding switches the card on and off. In this pack magnet_card_range is set to 16.[6][11][12]

The in-pack Magnet Card recipe.

Quantum Bridge Card

Once you have a Quantum Bridge multiblock at your base, craft the Quantum Bridge Card. It gives your terminal access to your network from anywhere, even across dimensions, and it recharges the terminal from your network. "Infinite Wireless Access" quest follows the Quantum Network Bridges quest and walks you through it.[3][7]

To link it, put the card and one Quantum Entangled Singularity in your terminal, and put the other singularity in a Quantum Bridge connected to your network.[3][7]

Watch out: A quantum-linked terminal only reaches your network across dimensions if the chunks holding the network are loaded. Make sure the network also has enough energy storage, because the terminal recharges from it.[3]

The General Storage chapter has far more quests than I could cover here. The rest are in the quest book.[7]

How does Applied Energistics 2 Wireless Terminals work?

5 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 guide

This section covers how the wireless terminals behave once you have them: how the Wireless Universal Terminal stacks terminals, how a quantum link lets a terminal reach your network from anywhere, and what restocking and the magnet do.[13][14][15][16][17]

Universal terminal and upgrades

The Wireless Universal Terminal combines several wireless terminals into one item. It adds a button to the terminal screen: left-click cycles to the next terminal and right-click goes back to the previous one.[14][18]

  • Each installed terminal adds 2 upgrade slots, and the universal terminal accepts the same upgrades as the terminals inside it.[14]
  • Adding terminals combines their energy storage, so a universal terminal with two terminals has twice the energy storage of a single wireless terminal.[14]
  • The Wireless Crafting Terminal accepts these upgrades: one that increases battery capacity, the Quantum Bridge Card for unlimited range and automatic charging, and the Magnet Card for magnet functionality.[18][19]

Like AE2's own wireless terminal, these can be opened with a keybind and placed in a curio slot, if a mod implementing the curio API is installed. They can also be linked to a network like a normal wireless terminal.[13]

Quantum linking

The Quantum Bridge Card is an upgrade card that lets a wireless terminal link to a Quantum Bridge. Put the card and one singularity in your terminal, and put the other singularity in a Quantum Bridge connected to your network.[15]

Your terminal is then quantum linked. It can reach your network from anywhere, even across dimensions, as long as the chunks holding the network stay loaded. It also recharges automatically from your network, so make sure the network has enough energy storage.[15]

Restocking and Pick Block

With Restock enabled, your terminal tries to replace items you use with items from the ME System. You can toggle it in the GUI or with a keybind.[16][18]

It keeps the stack you are using at its maximum size, 64 for most items. Missing items are taken from the ME System, and excess items go back into it if you pick up more. Your hotbar count also shows the network total plus what is actually in the hotbar.[16]

  • It will not restock a stack that holds a single item before it is used.[16]
  • It only works while you are in range of an access point, or if the terminal is quantum linked.[16]
  • In creative mode it is disabled automatically.[16]
  • It handles placing blocks, eating food and shooting a bow. Actions from other mods may not be recognised, so those items won't be restocked.[16]

The mod also improves Pick Block. If the item isn't in your inventory, it is drawn from the ME Network, and it will try to store items if your current slot happens to be full. There is also a keybind to stow the stack in your hand into the ME System.[18][19]

Magnet Card

The Magnet Card adds a magnet to the Wireless Crafting Terminal, and a keybind turns it on or off. It does two things: it picks up items in a larger range, and it sends picked up items into the ME System instead of your inventory.[17][18]

Both behaviours can be toggled separately and each has its own filter, a pickup filter and an insert filter. Either filter can be set to blacklist or whitelist mode. The GUI shows the states Pickup to Inventory, Pickup to ME, Magnet Off with Pickup to ME, and Off.[17][18]

Unverified The mod's own guide says the magnet pickup range is configurable with a default of 16. That value would be set in the mod's config, but the sources here include no config file for this mod, so the range this pack uses is unverified.

The pack changed the Magnet Card recipe from the mod's own, so use this one:[20]

Pattern terminals

The Wireless Pattern Encoding Terminal and the Wireless Pattern Access Terminal are wireless versions of the matching ME terminals, and each has its own keybind to open it. The pack uses the mod's own recipes for both.[13][18][20]

How do you progress through Applied Energistics 2 Wireless Terminals?

4 parts

In this pack the wireless terminals are a ladder you climb on top of your normal AE2 network. You start from a wireless crafting terminal, branch into the pattern terminals, merge them into a universal terminal, and then add upgrade cards. The quest book covers this in the General Storage chapter (group "Resources & Logistics", chapter 7 of 31), and I'll point out which quests cover each step.[7]

Step 1: Wireless Crafting Terminal

The Wireless Crafting Terminal is the wireless version of the crafting terminal, and it's the base the rest builds on. It adds automatic restocking from your ME network and lets Pick Block pull items from the network when they aren't in your inventory. The pack's quest "Wireless Crafting" comes right before the universal terminal quest in the book.[5][7]

With restocking on, the terminal tries to keep the stack you're using at its max size, and it only works while you're in range of an access point or your terminal is quantum linked. It won't restock a stack that held a single item before you used it.[4]

Step 2: The pattern terminals

The Wireless Pattern Access Terminal and the Wireless Pattern Encoding Terminal are wireless versions of their ME terminal counterparts. Here are the in-pack recipes.[8][9]

The encoding terminal also has a second, shapeless upgrade recipe, so you can get it a different way than the one above.[9]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: ae2wtlib:pattern_encoding/upgrade_wireless_pattern_encoding_terminal

This is the upgrade route for the encoding terminal.

Step 3: Wireless Universal Terminal

The quest "The Universal Wireless Terminal" quest asks for the Wireless Pattern Access Terminal and the Wireless Universal Terminal. It says you craft the universal terminal by combining your wireless crafting terminal with another wireless terminal, such as the pattern access one.[7]

The universal terminal merges several wireless terminals into one item. Here's what you get:[10]

  • A button on the terminal UI cycles to the next terminal with a left-click, or the last one with a right-click.[10]
  • It accepts the same upgrades as the terminals installed in it, and each installed terminal adds 2 upgrade slots.[10]
  • Energy storage adds up, so a universal terminal with two terminals has twice the storage of a single wireless terminal.[10]

Step 4: Upgrade cards

The Magnet Card adds a magnet to your terminal that you can toggle and filter in the GUI, with a keybind to switch it on or off. It picks up items in a larger range and can send them straight into your ME system instead of your inventory. Pickup and insert each have their own toggle and their own filter, and either filter can be a blacklist or a whitelist.[6]

The Quantum Bridge Card is the endgame upgrade. It links your terminal to a Quantum Bridge so you can reach your network from anywhere, even across dimensions, and the terminal recharges from your network. The quest "Infinite Wireless Access" quest comes after the "Quantum Network Bridges" quest, so build that multiblock first.[3][7]

  1. Form the Quantum Bridge multiblock for your base.[7]
  2. Create a pair of Quantum Entangled Singularities.[7]
  3. Put one singularity into a Quantum Network Bridge connected to your network.[3][7]
  4. Put the other singularity and the card itself into your wireless terminal.[3][7]
Watch out: Quantum linking only works while the chunks holding your network are loaded, so keep your base chunkloaded. Make sure your network also has enough energy storage, because the terminal recharges from it.[3]

How does Applied Energistics 2 Wireless Terminals work with other mods?

4 parts

Wireless Terminals is an Applied Energistics 2 addon, so almost everything it does plugs into AE2 itself. In this pack it also reaches into several other AE2 addons, mostly through the Wireless Universal Terminal.[1][8]

Built from Applied Energistics 2 parts

The wireless pattern terminals are made from their AE2 counterparts. The Wireless Pattern Access Terminal is crafted from the ME Pattern Access Terminal plus other AE2 parts, and the Wireless Pattern Encoding Terminal does the same with the ME Pattern Encoding Terminal.[9]

Upgrade cards

Both upgrade cards in the pack lean on AE2 machines. The Magnet Card needs an ME Annihilation Plane, and the Quantum Bridge Card needs the ME Quantum Link Chamber and ME Quantum Ring from AE2's quantum bridge.[9]

The Magnet Card adds a magnet that picks up items in a larger range and can put them straight into your ME system. The pickup and insert behaviour can each be toggled and filtered separately.[6]

The Quantum Bridge Card links your terminal to a Quantum Bridge on your network, so it works from anywhere, even across dimensions, as long as the chunks holding your network are loaded. It also recharges the terminal from your network, so make sure your network has enough energy storage.[3]

Combining with other addon terminals

The Universal Terminal merges several wireless terminals into one item. The guide says most wireless terminals from other addons work with it, and the pack has combine recipes that pair the Wireless Pattern Access Terminal and the Wireless Pattern Encoding Terminal with these addon terminals:[8][9]

Once combined, a button on the terminal screen cycles between the installed terminals. Each installed terminal adds 2 upgrade slots and combines its energy storage with the others.[10]

Tip: The Wireless Universal Terminal accepts the same upgrades as the terminals inside it, so one Quantum Bridge Card or Magnet Card covers every terminal you have merged.[10]

In the quest book

Both integration steps are in the "General Storage" chapter, in the "Resources & Logistics" group (chapter 7 of 31). "The Universal Wireless Terminal" quest comes after the quest "Wireless Crafting" and says the Universal Terminal is made by combining your Wireless Crafting Grid with another Wireless Terminal, like the Wireless Pattern Access Terminal.[7]

"Infinite Wireless Access" quest comes after "Quantum Network Bridges". It covers the Quantum Bridge Card and the pair of Quantum Entangled Singularities you need to link it: one goes in a Quantum Network Bridge and the other in your Wireless Terminal along with the card. The chapter has 131 more quests that aren't covered here, so check the quest book for the rest.[7]

Which FTB Skies 2: Aero quests use Applied Energistics 2 Wireless Terminals?

2 parts

This mod only shows up in one chapter of the quest book: "General Storage", in the "Resources & Logistics" group (chapter 7 of 31). It's a big chapter with 146 quests covering many storage mods, and the wireless terminal quests sit at the end of the Applied Energistics line. 11 quests in that chapter aren't covered here, so check the quest book for those.[7]

The path leading up to it

The wireless terminal quests come after a long run of basic Applied Energistics steps. The line goes through "Completing Processors" quest, then "Cables and Channels" quest, then "ME Crafting Terminal" quest. After that come the two wireless quests that lead into this mod.[7]

  1. "Wireless Access" quest asks for the Wireless Access Point. It lets you reach your AE system remotely, and Wireless Boosters extend the range at the cost of more energy.[7]
  2. "Wireless Crafting" quest asks for the Wireless Crafting Terminal. You link it to an access point by placing it in the slot in its interface, and then you can access your items and craft on the go anywhere you have signal.[7]

The mod's own quests

"The Universal Wireless Terminal" quest comes right after Wireless Crafting. It asks you to get both the Wireless Pattern Access Terminal and the Wireless Universal Terminal. The quest explains that the Universal Terminal lets you make use of several different types of Wireless Terminals in one device.[7]

"Infinite Wireless Access" quest asks for the Quantum Bridge Card. It comes after a quest called "Quantum Network Bridges", which is in the quest book but whose text isn't shown here. This quest says you should first form the Quantum Bridge multiblock for your base. The card then installs in your Wireless Terminal and lets you reach your network wirelessly from any dimension.[7]

Tip: To link the Quantum Bridge Card, you need a pair of Quantum Entangled Singularities. Put one into a Quantum Network Bridge and the other into your Wireless Terminal, along with the card itself.[7]

Which Applied Energistics 2 Wireless Terminals config options matter?

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Only a couple of options for this mod are confirmed for the pack, one in the main config and one in the client config. Here is how the pack sets each of them.[21][22]

What changed in Applied Energistics 2 Wireless Terminals between versions?

1 part

FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.10.0 includes Applied Energistics 2 Wireless Terminals 19.5.1. It was first included in FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.0.3 or earlier.[2]

Mod changelog highlights

  • 19.5.1: fixed S2C packets being registered as bidirectional. This is the version in the pack.[2][23]
  • 19.5.0: added buttons to switch to terminals directly.[24]
  • 19.5.0: fixed a disconnect that happened when a restock resulted in empty stacks.[24]

Since the pack ships 19.5.1, both the 19.5.0 changes and the 19.5.1 packet fix are in your game.[2][23][24]

Unverified Changes to this mod in the pack's own release notes are not shown in the sources here, so any pack-specific changes live in the FTB Skies 2: Aero pack changelogs.
