What is Flux Networks?

2 parts

Flux Networks is the pack's wireless power solution. This pack includes version 8.0.0 of the mod. It can store power and send it wirelessly, even across dimensions, so you don't need a maze of cables between your generators and your machines.[1][2]

The mod does not generate power itself. You still need your own generators, and Flux Networks moves and stores what they make. It can also charge items in your inventory, and you can even charge your Jetpacks while you are flying.[2]

Who it is for

It suits you if you want to get power from your generators to your machines without running cables everywhere, or if you want your gear to stay charged while you travel between dimensions.[2]

Where it fits in the pack

Flux Networks shows up early in the Basic Power quest chapter. The "Flux Networks" quest quest unlocks after Transferring Power and asks you to get Flux Dust. It also appears in Chapter 2: The Cool Parts, where "Flux Networks" quest unlocks after Crushing for Flux Dust and asks for a Flux Core.[2][3]

From there, the Basic Power quests walk you through the main parts:[2]

The Productive Bees chapter offers another route to Flux Dust. An Obsidian Bee pollinating a Redstone Bee Spawn Egg converts it into a Flux Dust Bee Spawn Egg. See "Flux Dust Bee" quest.[4]

Unverified The sources do not show Flux Networks on the ATM Star quest path, so don't count on it as an ATM Star requirement.

How do you get started with Flux Networks?

6 parts

Flux Networks is all about wireless power. The mod can't generate energy itself, but it can store it and send it wirelessly, even across dimensions. Here's the order I'd tackle things in, following the pack's quests.[2]

First, get some Flux Dust

Everything starts with Flux Dust, and the "Flux Networks" quest quest walks you through it. Craft a 1x Compressed Obsidian (9 Obsidian in a crafting table) and place it down. Throw some Redstone on top of it, put some Obsidian one block above the floating Redstone, then punch that Obsidian.[2]

If you'd rather go the bee route, an Obsidian Bee pollinating a Redstone Bee Spawn Egg converts it into a Flux Dust Bee Spawn Egg. The pack also changed a Productive Bees centrifuge recipe so that it outputs Flux Dust and Wax.[4][5]

Next, make Flux Cores and Flux Blocks

These are the building materials for the core parts of your network, and the quest suggests making a few of each. Start with the Flux Core.[2][5]

    Then place a Flux Plug

The Flux Plug is the first piece of your network. It draws power from the block it is attached to, and it passively receives energy from adjacent blocks to add to your network. Apart from a small buffer, it doesn't store power, so it won't hoard your energy. The quest for this is "Starting Your Network" quest.[2][6]

The quest suggests putting it on a power storage block like an Energy Cube. It can also connect to Cables, Pipes, or the output of any power producing machine.[2]

    Add storage

Basic Flux Storage holds the power your network collects, and it can be upgraded to hold even more. The upgrade path goes through Herculean Flux Storage and then Gargantuan Flux Storage. See "Flux Storage" quest.[2][5][6]

Get power back out with a Flux Point

The Flux Point does the opposite of the Plug. It actively provides energy to adjacent blocks, taking it out of your network. Put it on a machine, Pipe or Cable, right-click it, and pick your network in the "Network Selection" tab. Like the Plug, you can adjust how much power it pulls, its priority and more. The quest for this is "Accessing Network Power" quest.[2][6]

The pack changed this recipe from the mod's default, so use the one shown here.[5]

Wireless charging with the Flux Controller

Once a Plug is attached to your power system, make the Flux Controller and place it down. Right-click it, open the "Wireless Charging" tab, and choose which sections of your inventory to keep charged. Then hit the toggle button at the bottom to enable Wireless Charging and click apply. This also works across dimensions. See "Wireless Charging" quest.[2][6]

    How does Flux Networks work?

    7 parts

Flux Networks moves energy between your machines through named networks. You place devices next to your machines, connect each device to a network, and the network handles the rest. This section covers the devices, the storage tiers, how networks and access work, and what this pack changed.[6]

    The four device types

    • Flux Plug: receives energy from adjacent blocks passively and adds it to your Flux Network.[6]
    • Flux Point: provides energy to adjacent blocks actively, taking it out of your Flux Network.[6]
    • Flux storage blocks (Basic Flux Storage and the bigger tiers): store energy for your Flux Network.[6]
    • Flux Controller: enables Wireless Charging on your Flux Network. The mod also reports that a network can already have a Flux Controller, so plan on one per network.[6]

Plugs, Points and Controllers share a default transfer limit of 800,000, set by energy.defaultLimit. This matches the mod default. The device screens also show per-device settings such as Priority, Transfer Limit, Bypass Limit and Power Surge.[6][7]

    Storage tiers

There are three storage tiers. Each one holds more and moves energy faster than the last. The pack leaves all of these values at the mod defaults.[7]

Each tier is crafted from the one below it, with glass panes as the extra part.[5]

    Networks and access

When you create a network you give it a name, a color, an energy type and a security mode: Public, Private or Encrypted. A password is part of the network setup.[6]

Players on a network have an access level: Owner, Admin, User or Stranger. Super Admin sits on top of those. You can set other members as Admin or User, and transfer ownership.[6]

Each player can own 5 networks, set by networks.maximumPerPlayer. Super admins can bypass that limit. Setting it to 0 means only super admins can create networks, and -1 removes the limit.[7]

Super Admin is turned on in this pack (networks.enableSuperAdmin). A player needs permission level 1 or higher to activate it (networks.superAdminRequiredPermission). Setting that to 0 lets anyone activate it, and single player bypasses the requirement. Players with permission level 3 or 4 can use commands to set others as Super Admin.[7]

    Wireless charging

Wireless charging is enabled by the Flux Controller. The network screen has a Wireless Charging tab, and the game tells you whether wireless charging is effective or ineffective for the network you picked. The slot groups listed there are armor, Curios, hotbar, main hand, off hand and main inventory, with the main inventory labelled as disabled.[6]

You can stop specific items from being charged with blacklist.itemBlackListStrings. It is empty in this pack.[7]

    Chunk loading and blacklists

Watch out: Chunk loading by flux devices is switched off in this pack (general.enableChunkLoading is false). The mod has a "Chunk loading is banned on this server" message, so don't plan builds that rely on Flux devices keeping chunks loaded.[6][7]

The pack adds actuallyadditions:block_phantom_energyface to blacklist.blockBlacklistStrings. Flux devices will not connect to that block.[7]

    Getting Flux Dust

Flux Dust is obtained by compressing Redstone Dust with Bedrock and Obsidian. This is enabled in the pack by general.enableFluxRecipe. The pack also has a changed Productive Bees centrifuge recipe that gives Flux Dust and Wax.[5][6][7]

How do you progress through Flux Networks?

    5 parts

Flux Networks doesn't generate any power. It stores power and sends it wirelessly, even across dimensions, and it can charge the items in your inventory too. The pack walks you through it with a short quest line that starts at "Flux Networks" quest in the Basic Power chapter. Here's the path, tier by tier.[2]

    Tier 1: Flux Dust

Everything starts with Flux Dust, which is the task for the first quest. The quest teaches an in-world method: you set up Obsidian and Redstone, then punch the Obsidian. Follow the quest text in-game for the exact layout.[2]

The pack gives you other routes too. A Productive Bees quest says an Obsidian Bee pollinating a Redstone Bee Spawn Egg converts it into a Flux Dust Bee Spawn Egg. The pack also changes the Productive Bees centrifuge recipe for the Flux honeycomb, which gives you Flux Dust and Wax.[4][5]

      Tier 2: Cores and Blocks

"The "Core" Crafting Materials" quest asks you to make a few Flux Core and Flux Block. These are the building materials for the rest of your network. The Chapter 2 quest "Flux Networks" quest points out that Flux Dust, Obsidian and Eyes of Ender are everything you need to get going.[2][3]

Tier 3: Plug, Point and Controller

"Starting Your Network" quest gives you the Flux Plug, which draws power from the block it's attached to. Apart from a small buffer, it stores no power itself. The quest suggests putting it on a power storage block such as an Energy Cube. It also connects to cables, pipes, or the output of any power-producing machine.[2]

It sends your network's power to whatever block it's attached to, whether that's a pipe, a cable or a machine directly. Right-click it and pick your network in the Network Selection tab. Like the Plug, you can adjust how much power it pulls, its priority level and more.[2]

The pack changes the Flux Point recipe from the mod's default, so use the recipe below rather than any recipe you remember from other packs.[5]

How does Flux Networks work with other mods?

      2 parts

Flux Networks does not generate power. It stores power and sends it wirelessly, even across dimensions, so its links to the rest of the pack come from what you plug it into and where you get Flux Dust.[2]

      Productive Bees and Flux Dust

The pack ties Flux Networks into Productive Bees. The Flux Dust Bee quest says an Obsidian Bee pollinating a Redstone Bee Spawn Egg converts it into a Flux Dust Bee Spawn Egg. Its tasks list a Flux Block alongside the bee items.[4]

There is also a Productive Bees centrifuge recipe that the pack has changed. It has no item inputs listed and gives you Flux Dust and Wax.[5]

      Centrifuge (productivebees)

        Recipe id: productivebees:centrifuge/fluxnetworks/honeycomb_flux

A Productive Bees centrifuge recipe changed by the pack. It outputs Flux Dust and Wax.

If you want to start without bees, the "Flux Networks" quest quest describes another route. You craft Obsidian 1x Compressed, place it down, throw Redstone on top, put Obsidian one block above the floating Redstone, then punch that Obsidian.[2]

Plugging into other mods' power systems

The Flux Plug draws power from the block it is attached to. The quest suggests putting it on a power storage block like an Energy Cube. It can also connect to cables, pipes, or the output of any power producing machine, so it works with whatever power setup you already have.[2]

On the output side, the Flux Point sends your network's power to the block it is attached to. That can be a pipe, a cable, or a machine directly.[2]

The Flux Controller adds wireless charging for the items in your inventory, even across dimensions. The quest says this includes charging your Jetpacks while you are flying.[2]

Tip: In the quest book, "The "Core" Crafting Materials" quest comes after "Flux Networks" quest, and "Starting Your Network" quest comes after that. "Accessing Network Power" quest, "Flux Storage" quest and "Wireless Charging" quest all follow the same earlier quest. In Chapter 2, a separate "Flux Networks" quest quest comes after Crushing for Flux Dust and says you need Flux Dust, Obsidian and Eyes of Ender.[2][3]

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Flux Networks?

        3 parts

Flux Networks shows up in three quest chapters in this pack. Most of it is in Basic Power, which walks you through the whole mod. The other two are small side mentions.[2][3][4]

        Basic Power

This is the main chapter, and it starts with "Flux Networks" quest, which unlocks after the Transferring Power quest. It asks you to hand in Flux Dust. The quest text explains that the mod doesn't generate power. It stores and wirelessly transmits power, even across dimensions, and it can charge items in your inventory, including Jetpacks while you fly. It also describes an in-world method for making your first Flux Dust.[2]

The early quests run in a straight line:[2]

        1. "The "Core" Crafting Materials" quest asks for Flux Core and Flux Block. These are the core parts of your network, and the quest suggests making a few of each.[2]
        2. "Starting Your Network" quest asks for a Flux Plug. The Plug draws power from the block it's attached to and only keeps a small buffer. The quest suggests putting it on a power storage block like an Energy Cube.[2]

Three more quests come after that. They all unlock after the same earlier quest, so you can do them in any order:[2]

Unverified These three quests unlock after a quest with the id 36DEA17CBB696CC7. The available sources don't give that quest's name, so I can't say which one it is.

        Chapter 2: The Cool Parts

This chapter has its own "Flux Networks" quest quest, which unlocks after Crushing for Flux Dust. It asks for a Flux Core. The quest text sums up what you need for Flux Networks as Flux Dust, Obsidian and Eyes of Ender.[3]

        Productive Bees

"Flux Dust Bee" quest ties the mod into bee breeding. It asks for a Flux Block plus one of several Productive Bees items. The quest text says an Obsidian Bee pollinating a Redstone Bee Spawn Egg converts it into a Flux Dust Bee Spawn Egg.[4]

Which Flux Networks config options matter?

        4 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Flux Networks keeps its important settings in one server config file, so these values apply to everyone on a server. If you've played Flux Networks elsewhere, there's good news: every numeric setting here matches the mod default, so capacities, transfer limits and network caps work exactly as you'd expect.[8]

        Energy storage and transfer

These settings control how much energy each Flux Storage tier holds and how fast devices move power by default. Here's what the pack uses:[8]

        Networks and Super Admin

Each player can own up to 5 networks (networks.maximumPerPlayer). A Super Admin can go past this limit.[8]

Super Admin is enabled in this pack (networks.enableSuperAdmin). Without it, nobody could access a flux device or delete a network without permission. With it, server staff have a way to deal with other players' networks.[8]

To turn on Super Admin, you need a permission level of at least 1 (networks.superAdminRequiredPermission). Permission levels come from ops.json. In single player you can skip this requirement. Players with permission level 3 or 4 can also use commands to make other people Super Admin, whatever those players' own permission level is.[8]

        Chunk loading

Chunk loading is turned off in this pack (general.enableChunkLoading is false). Your flux devices can't keep their own chunks loaded. If you need a setup to keep running while you're away, you'll have to handle chunk loading some other way.[8]

        Recipes and blacklists

general.enableFluxRecipe is true, so the mod's in-world method of making flux dust works in this pack.[8]

The block blacklist (blacklist.blockBlacklistStrings) lists blocks that flux devices won't connect to. In this pack it has only a single entry, so the blacklist won't get in your way when you hook up Flux Plugs and Points.[8]

The item blacklist for wireless charging (blacklist.itemBlackListStrings) is empty, so no specific items are excluded from wireless charging.[8]
