What is Silent Gear?

2 parts

Silent Gear is all about tools, weapons and armor, which the mod calls "gear". You build each piece from parts, and the materials you pick decide its stats. Besides vanilla materials, the mod adds crimson steel, azure electrum and tyrian steel. This pack ships Silent Gear 4.2.1.1.[1][2]

Where it sits in the quest book

The pack has a chapter called "Silent Gear" in the "Tools and Gear" group. It is chapter 29 of 70 in the book and holds 70 quests.[3]

The chapter opens with "Silent Gear and Productive Metalworks" quest. It tells you the pack pairs Silent Gear with Productive Metalworks, so you get your Silent Gear items from Casts and a Foundry instead of Blueprints. The quest starts you off with Fire Clay.[3]

How the chapter flows

  1. "Foundry Drains" quest, "Foundry Tanks" quest and "Foundry Controller" quest all come straight after the opening quest.[3]
  2. "Building the Foundry" quest follows those three, then "Casting Items" quest and "Casts" quest.[3]
  3. After Casts, the chapter branches into the cast quests, several blueprint quests (such as Grip Blueprint) and the Salvager.[3]
  4. After the Salvager come the Recrystallizer and the Material Grader.[3]
  5. The Material Grader leads to its three catalyst quests and to the Alloy Forge, which the quest calls the only way to get Tyrian Steel.[3]
  6. The Starlight Charger comes after the Alloy Forge, followed by its pillar cap and catalyst quests.[3]

The Material Grader quests cover the Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 grader catalysts, which are Glowing Dust, Blazing Dust and Glittery Dust. The mod's own page lists those same three dusts as its default catalysts.[1][3]

a quest in "Silent Gear" explains repair kits. Some of the chapter's quests are not covered here, so open the quest book to read them.[3]

How do you get started with Silent Gear?

5 parts

Silent Gear is the tools, weapons and armor mod, and the pack's quest book puts its chapter in the Tools and Gear group (chapter 29 of 70). The pack adds a twist, which the quest "Silent Gear and Productive Metalworks" quest explains. Instead of making gear with Blueprints, you use Casts and a Foundry from Productive Metalworks. You start that road with Fire Clay.[3]

Step 1: Build a Foundry

The book gives you one quest per Foundry part before the big build quest. The Controller is the heart of the Foundry and every Foundry needs at least one. Tanks are mostly there to hold fuel, and lava is about the only way to fuel the Foundry. Drains let you get the liquid metal out, using a Foundry Tap on top.[3]

The quest "Building the Foundry" quest covers the rest. Liquid Heating Coils make the floor, and Foundry Windows or Fire Bricks make the walls. You need 4 walls and a floor, and the corners can stay empty. You'll know it worked when the Controller lights up like a Furnace and the coils turn orange.[3]

Tip: If a block is missing, the Controller tells you where. The Foundry can be as small as 1x1 inside, but the quest book doesn't recommend that, because a bigger Foundry holds more.[3]

Step 2: Make steel and your first Cast

Every Cast is made the same way: you pour steel onto an item in a Casting Table. To get steel, melt down any steel items or ingots, or alloy 9 iron with 10 coal in a heated Foundry. The Foundry combines the two liquid metals on its own once the amounts are right.[3]

To get the metal out, place a Foundry Tap on a Drain and put a Casting Table or Casting Basin under it. The Basin turns about 900mB of liquid metal into a full metal block. The Table is what you need for Casts, as the quest "Casting Items" quest explains.[3]

After that, pick the Casts for the gear you want. The quest book has one for nearly every tool and weapon, including a Sword Cast, a Pickaxe Cast and the Tool Rod Cast (a quest in "Silent Gear", "Your own Handle!"). The pack also changed how arrow heads are made, so they now come straight from an Arrow Cast.[3][4]

A shortcut: convert vanilla tools

Conversion recipes are switched on in this pack (gear.allow_conversion_recipes is true). Placing a vanilla tool alone in a crafting grid gives you the Silent Gear version. A vanilla diamond axe, for example, gives you an Axe, an Axe Head and a Tool Rod.[1][4][5]

Step 3: Early helpers

  • Flax Seeds can be found growing in fields of grass, and Flax String works in place of normal string. The quest book says flax is great when you need a lot of string early on.[6]
  • Repair kits replace the anvil for fixing gear. Put a kit in a crafting grid with the repair materials to fill it, then craft the filled kit with the damaged tool. The Crude Repair Kit is the cheapest to start with, and it holds 16 (item.repair_kits.capacity.crude).[3][5]

Step 4: What the quest book unlocks next

After the Casts, the chapter points you to the Salvager. It breaks gear down into the items it was made from. From there the book branches to the Recrystallizer and the Material Grader. The grader gives an ingot a grade, and the best grade is MAX.[3]

The grader needs a catalyst, and Glowing Dust is the Tier 1 one. In this pack's config the most common grade with a Tier 1 catalyst is C (material_grader.median_grade). The Alloy Forge also follows the grader in the book. It makes custom alloys and is the only way to get Tyrian Steel.[3][5]

Watch out: The pack doesn't hand out starter blueprints or a material book when you join a world (item.blueprint.spawn_with_starter_blueprints and item.material_book.spawn_with_material_book are both false). Plan to build the Foundry rather than wait for gifts.[5]

How does Silent Gear work?

8 parts

Silent Gear is about building tools, weapons and armor out of parts, and a handful of blocks support that. This section covers how gear is made, graded, alloyed, charged, salvaged and repaired in this pack.[1]

How gear gets made

Every gear item starts from a blueprint or a template. A blueprint can be reused forever, while a template is used up after one craft. You combine the blueprint with the right number of one material to make the main part (head, blade and so on), then craft that part with a rod. A plain stick works as a rod if you have nothing better.[1]

In this pack both blueprints and templates are allowed (item.blueprint.types_allowed is BOTH), and you do not start with a free blueprint package (item.blueprint.spawn_with_starter_blueprints is false).[5]

Conversion recipes are switched on in the pack (gear.allow_conversion_recipes). Put a vanilla tool in the crafting grid and you get Silent Gear parts back. The diamond axe below shows how it works.[4][5]

Upgrade parts are not limited to the anvil here (gear.upgrades.apply_in_anvil_only is false), and parts you swap out of a gear item are returned to you rather than destroyed (gear.upgrades.destroy_swapped_parts is false). The Advanced Upgrade Base is built from the Upgrade Base:[4][5]

Material Grader

The Material Grader improves materials by giving them a grade. From lowest to highest the grades are E, D, C, B, A, S, SS, SSS and MAX. Each grading attempt uses up one catalyst, and the grade is rolled randomly on a bell curve.[1]

Out of the box the catalysts are glowing dust (tier 1), blazing dust (tier 2) and glittery dust (tier 3). With a tier 1 catalyst the most common result in this pack is grade C (material_grader.median_grade), and each tier above 1 raises that middle grade by one step. The spread is set by material_grader.standard_deviation, which is 1.5 here, the same as the mod default. A bigger number makes both very high and very low grades more common.[1][5]

Tip: You can put an already graded material back into the grader. A higher roll replaces the old grade, but an equal or lower roll changes nothing and still costs you the catalyst. The grader only grades whole materials in this pack, because material_grader.can_grade_parts is false.[1][5]

Alloys and mixers

Silent Gear has several blocks that make compound materials, which the community calls alloys. You can combine up to four materials into one compound. Put two or more different simple (non-compound) materials into the input slots, check the result preview, then toggle the Work button when you like what you see.[1][7]

The mod also has a Crude Mixer and a Super Mixer, and the Super Mixer is described as making alloys of any material. Compounds from the Crude Mixer have some of their numerical properties scaled by compounds.crude_mixer.property_multiplier, which is 0.8 in this pack (the mod default, so the pack has not changed it).[5][7]

The Metal Press makes sheet metal, which counts for elytra wings. Wings only accept materials in the cloth and sheet categories.[1][7]

The Alloy Forge is craftable in the pack like this:[4][7]

Crafting Shaped

Starlight Charger

The Starlight Charger gathers energy at night. In this pack starlight_charger.work_time is NIGHTTIME and starlight_charger.requires_view_of_sky is true, so put it where it has a clear view of the sky. It can hold up to 1,000,000 energy (starlight_charger.max_charge) and gathers it at a rate of 100 (starlight_charger.charge_rate), both the mod defaults. Charging the individual materials inside a gear part is off (starlight_charger.can_charge_parts).[5]

Salvager

The Salvager breaks some items down into their components. How many parts you lose depends on the item's remaining durability: the loss rate runs from salvager.part_loss_rate.min (0, no loss) up to salvager.part_loss_rate.max (0.5), both the mod defaults. When you salvage a gear item you get its parts back rather than raw materials, because salvager.break_down_parts_with_gear is false. You can salvage those parts separately afterwards.[5][7]

The pack's own allthemodium, vibranium and unobtainium gear materials are all marked as salvageable in their material files.[8][9][10]

Repairing gear

You can't repair gear by crafting two similar items together. Repair kits let you repair in any crafting grid: either fill the kit with materials beforehand, or put the gear, the kit and the materials in the grid together. The material's tier must be the same or higher than the gear's primary part. Anvil repairs also work, at an effectiveness of 0.5 (gear.repairs.anvil_effectiveness).[1][5]

Watch out: In this pack, repairing with loose materials and no repair kit has an efficiency of 0, so you need a kit. That is the mod default. Raising item.repair_kits.efficiency.missing above zero would make kits optional.[5]
  • Very crude kit: capacity 8.[5]
  • Crude kit: capacity 16.[5]
  • Sturdy kit: capacity 32.[5]
  • Crimson kit: capacity 48.[5]
  • Azure kit: capacity 64 and an efficiency of 0.5.[5]

Gear does not break permanently here (gear.breaks_permanently is false). A tool that shatters can be repaired by crafting it with a filled repair kit, and you get a chat message hinting at that.[5][7]

Feeding the pack's machines

Other mods in the pack can process Silent Gear materials too. Bort ore can be turned into Bort with a Mekanism enriching recipe that gives three Bort, or with an Ender IO SAG mill recipe that gives one. The pack added both recipes.[4]

How do you progress through Silent Gear?

5 parts

Silent Gear has its own chapter in the quest book, in the Tools and Gear group (chapter 29 of 70), with 70 quests. In this pack you don't get your gear parts the usual blueprint way. The chapter sends you through a Foundry and a set of Casts first, then on to grading, alloys and the Starlight Charger.[3]

Early game: flax and the Foundry

For early string, grab Flax Seeds. The quest book says they grow in fields of grass, and the pack's Farming for Blockheads market can also sell them. Flax String can replace normal string. Both quests, a quest in "Food and Farming" and "Flax String" quest, are in the Food and Farming chapter.[4][6]

The quest "Silent Gear and Productive Metalworks" quest explains the pack's twist: Silent Gear is paired with Productive Metalworks, so you use Casts and a Foundry instead of Blueprints. Here is the path the chapter lays out:[3]

  1. Start with Fire Clay, then do the Foundry Controller, Drains and Tanks quests ("Foundry Controller" quest, "Foundry Drains" quest, "Foundry Tanks" quest). Tanks hold fuel, and the quest says that is mostly lava.[3]
  2. Build the Foundry in "Building the Foundry" quest: Liquid Heating Coils make the floor, and Foundry Windows or Fire Bricks make the walls. It needs 4 walls and a floor, the corners can stay empty, and it can be as small as 1x1 inside. You know it works when the Controller lights up and the coils turn orange.[3]
  3. Put a Foundry Tap on a Drain and place a Casting Table or Casting Basin under it ("Casting Items" quest).[3]
  4. Make Casts in "Casts" quest: every Cast is made by pouring steel onto an item in a Casting Table. You get steel by melting steel items or ingots, or by alloying 9 iron with 10 coal inside the heated Foundry.[3]

Heat matters. Regular lava gives up to 1000 C, and Soul Lava gives 3000 C. Allthemodium needs the hotter Soul Lava ("Soul Lava" quest). If you'd rather skip lava, "Electric Foundry" quest covers an FE-powered Foundry: Powered Heating Coils match lava and High Powered Heating Coils match Soul Lava.[3]

Casts and blueprints

After the Casts quest the chapter opens a long row of Cast quests, one per gear type (sword, pickaxe, hammer, bow and many more). The Tip Cast makes the tip upgrade, which raises a tool's mining level: a diamond tip lets an iron pickaxe mine obsidian. The same row also lists blueprints such as Binding Blueprint, Grip Blueprint, Lining Blueprint and Mace Blueprint.[3]

Salvaging, grading and alloys

The Salvager breaks gear back into its materials, for example diamond boots give 4 diamonds. Two quests follow it: the Recrystallizer, which combines crystals into new ones, and the Material Grader. The Grader takes an ingot plus a catalyst and gives the material a grade, and the best grade is MAX.[3]

The pack also lets you cast azure electrum in the Foundry: an Ingot Cast with 90 of molten azure electrum makes an Azure Electrum Ingot, and 810 makes a Block of Azure Electrum.[4]

The Starlight Charger tiers

The Starlight Charger is the last big step in the chapter. It gives materials the Star Charged enchantment. You build it in view of the night sky, in the middle of a 7x7 structure with a pillar in each corner. Each pillar needs a cap, and each material needs one catalyst. It only gains power at night. The quests split this into three tiers:[3]

The pack adds extra ways to get these dusts. Mekanism crushing turns Blaze Gold Ingot into dust. Azure silver dust can come from ingots (Mekanism crushing, EnderIO SAG milling) or from Raw Azure Silver (Actually Additions crushing).[4]

Repairs and the top end

Repair Kits come in five kinds: very crude, crude, sturdy, crimson and azure (a quest in "Silent Gear"). Put the kit in a crafting grid with the repair materials to fill it, then combine the filled kit with the tool.[3]

At the top is Allthemodium, which the pack defines as a Silent Gear material in the metal and endgame categories. Its main stats include an enchantment value of 85 and attack damage of 22, with a mining level hint of 5.[8]

How does Silent Gear work with other mods?

4 parts

Silent Gear doesn't live in a bubble in this pack. Most of its links to other mods are recipes that take Silent Gear metals, parts or wood and run them through another mod's machines. Here's what the in-pack recipes show.[4]

Casting metals

The pack changed the casting recipes for Silent Gear's alloys. Put an Ingot Cast together with the matching molten metal and you get the ingot: Azure Electrum Ingot, Azure Silver Ingot, Blaze Gold Ingot, Crimson Iron Ingot, Crimson Steel Ingot or Tyrian Steel Ingot.[4]

Tyrian Steel IngotChanged by the pack

Item Casting (productivemetalworks)

Tyrian Steel as an example; the other ingots follow the same pattern.

Nuggets work the same way with a Nugget Cast in place of the ingot cast. That covers the nugget of each of those metals, for example Crimson Steel Nugget and Blaze Gold Nugget.[4]

There's also a Silent Gear item that can be melted. Crushed Shulker Shell melts down into Molten Shulker Shell. That one is a recipe from the mod itself, not something the pack changed.[4]

Casting gear parts

The pack also links Silent Gear's gear parts to casting. Cast a part together with molten steel and you get a matching cast. For example, an Axe Head gives an Axe Cast. There are casts for many other parts, such as the Pickaxe Cast, Sword Cast and Helmet Cast.[4]

There's a more exotic route too, the uru recipes. They are built around the Silent Unobtainium Plate and the Uru Metal Ingot, and they cover Silent Gear parts like Arrow Heads and Bow Limbs. The recipes I can see cover arrow heads, axe heads, boot plates, bow limbs and bracelet bands.[4]

Netherwood processing

Silent Gear's Netherwood logs plug into other mods' wood processing, and the pack added these recipes itself. Both Mekanism sawing and the Productive Trees sawmill handle Netherwood and make Netherwood Planks, and both involve sawdust (Sawdust and Sawdust). The recipes are shown below.[4]

Which All the Mons quests use Silent Gear?

5 parts

Silent Gear shows up in three quest chapters in this pack. Almost all of it is in the dedicated Silent Gear chapter. The Food and Farming chapter covers flax, and the Create chapter mentions Silent Gear parts in one Mechanical Mixer quest.[3][6][11]

The Silent Gear chapter

This is chapter 29 of 70 in the quest book, in the Tools and Gear group, and it has 70 quests. It has two starting points that list no quest before them: a repair kit quest and a quest that sets up Productive Metalworks. The rest follows this order.[3]

  1. a quest in "Silent Gear" accepts any one of the repair kits: Very Crude Repair Kit, Crude Repair Kit, Sturdy Repair Kit, Crimson Repair Kit or Azure Repair Kit. You put the kit in a crafting grid with the repair materials to fill it, then combine the filled kit with the gear you want to repair.[3]
  2. "Silent Gear and Productive Metalworks" quest asks for Fire Clay. Its text says the pack uses Casts and a Foundry from Productive Metalworks to get your Silent Gear items, instead of Blueprints.[3]
  3. "Foundry Controller" quest, "Foundry Drains" quest and "Foundry Tanks" quest all come after that quest. They ask for a Foundry Controller, a Foundry Drain and a Foundry Tank. Tanks are for adding liquids, mostly lava as fuel.[3]
  4. "Building the Foundry" quest needs all three of those first. It asks for Liquid Heating Coils plus either Foundry Windows or Fire Bricks. The Foundry needs 4 walls and a floor, and the Controller lights up when it is built. "Dyeable Foundry Parts" quest also comes after it and covers dyeing Foundry parts.[3]
  5. "Casting Items" quest follows, asking for a Casting Table, a Casting Basin and a Foundry Tap.[3]
  6. From Casting Items the chapter branches into "Soul Lava" quest, "Electric Foundry" quest and "Casts" quest. Soul Lava is for metals that normal lava cannot melt, such as Allthemodium. The Electric Foundry swaps lava for FE, using Capacitors and Powered or High Powered Heating Coils. The Casts quest says you make steel by alloying 9 iron with 10 coal.[3]

Casts and blueprints

Most of the chapter hangs off "Casts" quest. Each quest asks for one cast or blueprint, such as a quest in "Silent Gear", a quest in "Silent Gear", a quest in "Silent Gear" and a quest in "Silent Gear". Some use Productive Metalworks casts, like the ingot, nugget, plate and gear casts. The blueprint quests sit here too: a quest in "Silent Gear", a quest in "Silent Gear", a quest in "Silent Gear", a quest in "Silent Gear", a quest in "Silent Gear", a quest in "Silent Gear" and a quest in "Silent Gear".[3]

Salvager, grading and the Starlight Charger

  1. "Salvager" quest asks for the Salvager, which breaks gear down into the items it was made from. It also comes after Casts.[3]
  2. a quest in "Silent Gear" asks for the Recrystallizer, and a quest in "Silent Gear" asks for the Material Grader. Both come after the Salvager.[3]
  3. The grader catalysts come after the Material Grader: "Tier 1 Grader Catalyst" quest asks for Glowing Dust, "Tier 2 Grader Catalyst" quest for Blazing Dust and "Tier 3 Grader Catalyst" quest for Glittery Dust.[3]
  4. a quest in "Silent Gear" also follows the Material Grader and asks for the Alloy Forge. Its text says it is the only way to get Tyrian Steel.[3]
  5. "Starlight Charger" quest comes after the Alloy Forge and asks for the Starlight Charger. It needs a 7x7 structure in view of the night sky, with a pillar cap on each corner pillar and a catalyst per material.[3]
  6. Six quests come after the Charger. Tier 1 is "Tier 1 Starlight Charger Pillar Cap" quest (Block of Crimson Steel) and "Tier 1 Starlight Charger Catalyst" quest (Blaze Gold Dust). Tier 2 is "Tier 2 Starlight Charger Pillar Cap" quest (Block of Azure Electrum) and "Tier 2 Starlight Charger Catalyst" quest (Azure Silver Dust). Tier 3 is "Tier 3 Starlight Charger Pillar Cap" quest (Block of Tyrian Steel) and "Tier 3 Starlight Charger Catalyst" quest (Starmetal Dust).[3]

Flax in Food and Farming

The Food and Farming chapter is chapter 38 of 70, in the Resources group. a quest in "Food and Farming" comes after "Punch the Grass" quest and asks for Flax Seeds. Its text says they grow in fields of grass and are great if you need a lot of string in the early game. "Flax String" quest follows and asks for Flax String, which can replace normal string.[6]

A mention in Create

The Create chapter is chapter 45 of 70, in the Tech group. Its "Mechanical Mixer" quest quest comes after Machines, and its text says automated shapeless crafting can even handle Silent Gear parts and patterns. Some quest text in that chapter is not included here for lack of room, so check the quest book for the rest.[11]

Which Silent Gear config options matter?

7 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Silent Gear has a common config and a server config in this pack, and they cover mostly the same options. Here are the ones you're most likely to care about, and what the pack sets them to.[12][13]

Did the pack change anything?

Everywhere the common file lists a mod default, the pack's value matches it. That includes gear.prospector_hammer.range at 16, gear.saw.recursion_depth at 200 and gear.repairs.anvil_effectiveness at 0.5. The server file shows a different starlight charger charge rate, covered below.[12][13]

Starlight charger

In the common file, starlight_charger.charge_rate is 100 (the mod default), starlight_charger.max_charge is 1,000,000 and starlight_charger.work_time is NIGHTTIME. starlight_charger.requires_view_of_sky is true, so the charger needs a clear view of the sky above it. starlight_charger.can_charge_parts is false.[12]

The server file lists its own charge rate, starlightCharger.chargeRate, as 50, and its starlightCharger.maxCharge as 1,000,000.[13]

Breaking and repairing gear

Enchanting and conversion

gear.enchanting.allow_enchanting is true, so you can enchant gear by normal means, and gear.enchanting.force_remove_enchantments is false, so enchantments aren't stripped. gear.allow_conversion_recipes is also true, so you can, for example, put a vanilla stone pickaxe in a crafting grid to get a Silent Gear stone pickaxe.[12]

Starting out

item.blueprint.spawn_with_starter_blueprints and item.material_book.spawn_with_material_book are both false, so you don't get a blueprint package or a material book when you join a new world. item.blueprint.types_allowed is BOTH, so blueprints and templates are both allowed.[12]

Material grader and salvager

The material grader's material_grader.median_grade is C with a tier 1 catalyst, and each catalyst tier past 1 raises it by one grade. material_grader.standard_deviation is 1.5, and material_grader.can_grade_parts is false.[12]

The salvager's part loss runs from 0 (salvager.part_loss_rate.min) to 0.5 (salvager.part_loss_rate.max), depending on remaining durability. salvager.break_down_parts_with_gear is false, so parts come back as parts and you can salvage them individually.[12]

Nerfed vanilla tools

Tip: nerfed_items.enabled is false, so vanilla tools aren't nerfed in this pack and the other settings in that group are ignored. If it were turned on, nerfed_items.durability_multiplier would multiply durability by 0.05 and nerfed_items.harvest_speed_multiplier would multiply harvest speed by 0.5.[12]

What changed in Silent Gear between versions?

3 parts

All the Mons 1.3.0 ships Silent Gear 4.2.1.1, and the mod has been in the pack since 0.3.0-beta or earlier. This section covers the mod's own changelogs, newest first, because there are no pack changelog entries for Silent Gear to draw on.[2]

4.2.1 and 4.2.1.1 (May 2026)

  • 4.2.1.1 (15 May 2026) fixed any crash related to the new gear renderer. This is the version in the pack.[2][14]
  • 4.2.1 (14 May 2026) added events that fire before and after gear data is recalculated, called GearRecaculateEvent.Pre and Post.[15]
  • 4.2.1 also changed the quick paint recipe (paint plus gear): it now paints the coating instead of the main part if a coating is present.[15]
  • 4.2.1 fixed arrows only crafting one at a time, arrows not allowing rod swaps, fishing rods not allowing cord swaps, and missing binding textures for many gear types.[15]

4.1.1 to 4.1.5 (February to April 2026)

  • 4.1.5 (3 April 2026) gave the Super Mixer 8 input slots (up from 4), and the Alloy Forge, Recrystallizer and Refabricator 6 input slots each (up from 4).[16][17]
  • 4.1.5 also changed alloy synergy: it no longer rises with the number of materials used. Duplicate materials no longer increase or decrease synergy. It fixed a duplication bug with alloy makers and the crude mixer not applying its Crude penalty.[16]
  • 4.1.4 (29 March 2026) added enchantment trait effects. Fortunate and Silky now apply Fortune or Silk Touch, and Fiery applies Fire Aspect or Flame. These enchantments don't change the item data, so they won't show in the tooltip.[18]
  • 4.1.3.1 (18 March 2026) fixed a server crash that happened when recalculating gear.[19]
  • 4.1.3 (8 March 2026) switched to simple material names where it makes sense grammatically ("gold" rather than "golden"), and the repair kit now colors material names. It also fixed repair kits not storing some materials, such as alloys, correctly.[16][20]
  • If you have older repair kits, 4.1.3 notes that they should keep any simple materials, but "Unknown Alloys" may still appear until overwritten, and those can't be retrieved.[20]
  • 4.1.2 (3 March 2026) added more detailed trait tooltips on materials when you hold a bound key (Shift by default). It also removed the armor type condition from Flame Ward, so other items can get the fireproof effect of not being destroyed in lava.[17][21]
  • 4.1.1 (18 February 2026) added a config option to disable spawning with a material book, and expanded the trait information in the material book, including an explanation of trait conditions (the asterisk).[22]
Watch out: The 4.1.2 changelog says its method signature changes, mostly around computing gear property values, may cause incompatibilities with some add-on mods.[21]

4.0.30 (November 2025)

  • Added the crude mixer, an early game alternative to the super mixer. It makes an alloy from any two to four materials, but the result is weaker.[17]
  • The Crude penalty is set by compounds.crude_mixer.property_multiplier in the config. The mod's default is 0.8, a 20% penalty on all properties that synergy affects.[17]
  • Added a default super mixer recipe, plus models for the crude mixer and super mixer by giok3r.[17]
  • AOE tools such as the hammer now mine 50% faster when you crouch to target a single block, and a bug that let them mine blocks instantly while sneaking was fixed.[17]
  • Spears no longer perform a sweeping attack, and Sweeping Edge does nothing for them.[17]
