Industrial Foregoing: Souls is a mod in All the Mons 1.3.0, where it is version 1.10.7. Use Warden's souls to accelerate your machines (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is Industrial Foregoing: Souls?

2 parts

Industrial Foregoing: Souls is an add-on for Industrial Foregoing that lets you speed up your other machines. You pull souls out of a creature with a Soul Laser Base and a lens, then spend those souls to make a nearby block run faster. The pack includes version 1.10.7 of the mod.[1][2]

How the system works

  1. Put a lens in the Soul Laser Base. The mod's page stresses not to forget it, and the pack's quest asks for the Blue Laser Lens.[1][3]
  2. Extract souls from the target creature. A Stasis Chamber is recommended to keep it healing.[1][3]
  3. Place a Soul Surge pointing at the block you want to accelerate, and connect it to the Soul Laser Base with Soul Pipe.[1]
  4. Apply a redstone signal to the Soul Surge whenever you want it to stop working.[1]

By default, each soul lasts 15 seconds and makes the machine 4 times faster. The mod says both values can be changed in its config, but the sources I have don't show whether the pack changed them, so treat those as the mod's defaults. You can also stop a block from being accelerated by adding it to the block tag industrialforegoingsouls:cant_accelerate. The mod also gives you a way to get more Echo Shards, since it uses a lot of them.[1]

What's different in this pack

The mod normally takes souls from a Warden. The pack's quest swaps that for a Mewtwo, so you extract from that instead. The quest warns that the process hurts the creature and can even kill it, so build Stasis Chambers, ideally with upgrades to heal it faster. Leave a 3 block gap between the floor and the Soul Laser Base. The quest also says souls can be extracted with Soul Pipes or used with AE2.[3]

Progression-wise, the quest "Industrial Foregoing Souls" quest sits in the Industrial Foregoing chapter and unlocks after Supreme Machine Frame. So this is a mid-to-late upgrade for players who already have the main Industrial Foregoing machines running, and who want them to go faster.[3]

Unverified The sources don't show this mod on the ATM Star quest path, and no in-jar guidebook was found for it.

How do you get started with Industrial Foregoing: Souls?

3 parts

This mod is all about speed. You build a Soul Laser Base, give it a lens, collect souls, and then use those souls to make other machines run faster. The pack has a quest for it, "Industrial Foregoing Souls" quest, that comes after Supreme Machine Frame and covers the whole chain.[1][3]

What to make, in order

  1. Get a Blue Laser Lens (Blue Laser Lens). The Soul Laser Base needs it to extract souls, so don't forget to add it.[1][3]
  2. Craft the Soul Laser Base. It's the heart of the setup, and it works like a Fluid Laser Base pulling Ether Gas from a Wither. The pack makes it in the Dissolution Chamber.[3][4]
  3. Craft some Soul Pipe (Soul Pipes) to connect your Soul Surge to the base. The quest also says the souls can be used with AE2.[1][3][4]
  4. Craft a Soul Surge. This is the block that accelerates other machines using the stored souls.[3][4]

Where the souls come from

In this pack the quest says the Blue Laser Lens extracts souls from a Mewtwo, not the Warden you may be used to. The Mewtwo takes damage from the process and can even die from it. The quest highly recommends Stasis Chambers, ideally with upgrades so it heals faster.[3]

Watch out: Make sure there's a 3 block gap between the floor and the Soul Laser Base.[3]

Using the souls

Place the Soul Surge so it points at the block you want to accelerate, then connect it to the Soul Laser Base with Soul Pipes. A redstone signal on the Soul Surge stops it from working.[1]

By the mod's defaults, each soul lasts 15 seconds and makes the machine 4 times faster. The mod's config can change this. You can also stop a block from being accelerated by adding it to the block tag industrialforegoingsouls:cant_accelerate.[1]

How does Industrial Foregoing: Souls work?

4 parts

This mod works differently from most Industrial Foregoing add-ons. Instead of producing items, it pulls souls out of Wardens and uses them to speed up other blocks. Everything runs through three blocks: the Soul Laser Base, the Soul Pipe and the Soul Surge.[1][5]

Setting up the soul chain

  1. Extract souls from a Warden using a Soul Laser Base fitted with a Blue Lens. The mod's page says the Stasis Chamber is a handy helper for this part.[1]
  2. Place a Soul Surge so it points at the block you want to accelerate.[1]
  3. Connect the Soul Surge to the Soul Laser Base with Soul Pipes.[1]
  4. If you ever want the Surge to stop, apply a redstone signal to it.[1]
Watch out: Don't forget the lens. The Soul Laser Base needs a Blue Lens to pull souls out of a Warden.[1]

If there is a block you never want accelerated, add it to the block tag industrialforegoingsouls:cant_accelerate.[1]

How the pack tunes the Soul Laser Base

The pack changes several of the laser's settings from the mod's defaults. They live in the machines config file for this mod.[6]

Soul Pipes hold souls too. IFSoulsMachines.SOUL_AMOUNT_PER_PIPE is 4, the same as the mod default.[6]

How the pack tunes the Soul Surge

The mod's page says each soul lasts 15 seconds and makes the target 4 times faster by default. This pack shortens the soul lifetime: IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulSurge.SOUL_TIME is 200 ticks here, down from the mod default of 300. So souls run out faster than the page suggests.[1][6]

The extra ticks the Surge adds are set separately for each kind of target, and all three are 4 in this pack, the same as the mod default.[6]

Crafting the three blocks

The pack removes the mod's own recipes for all three blocks and replaces them with Dissolution Chamber recipes. You will not find the original crafting recipes in this pack.[4][7][8]

How do you progress through Industrial Foregoing: Souls?

5 parts

Industrial Foregoing: Souls has a short, linear progression in this pack. It is all handled by one quest, "Industrial Foregoing Souls" quest, which unlocks after you finish the Supreme Machine Frame quest. So you need to be well into Industrial Foregoing before you get here.[3]

What the quest asks for

The quest's tasks are Blue Laser Lens, Soul Laser Base, Soul Pipe and Soul Surge. Together they form the whole chain, from getting souls to using them.[3]

Step 1: Soul Laser Base

The Soul Laser Base is the heart of the mod. The quest says it works like a Fluid Laser Base extracting Ether Gas from a Wither. With a Blue Laser Lens, it pulls souls out of a Mewtwo instead of a Warden.[3]

This is a Dissolution Chamber recipe added by the pack.

Watch out: Extracting souls hurts the Mewtwo. It takes damage from the process and can even die. The quest strongly recommends Stasis Chambers, ideally with upgrades so it heals faster.[3]
Tip: Leave a 3 block gap between the floor and the Soul Laser Base. The quest shows the intended layout in its own picture.[3]

Step 2: Soul Pipe

Once the base is running, you can extract the souls with Soul Pipe. The quest also says they can be used with AE2. This pack adds its own Dissolution Chamber recipe for the pipe.[3][4]

32× Soul PipeAdded by the pack

Dissolution Chamber (industrialforegoing)

Recipe id: kubejs:dissolution_chamber/soul_network_pipe

Another Dissolution Chamber recipe added by the pack.

Step 3: Soul Surge

The Soul Surge is the payoff. It uses the souls to accelerate blocks, which is why the quest is titled "Gotta go fast!". It is also a Dissolution Chamber recipe added by the pack.[3][4]

4× Soul SurgeAdded by the pack

Dissolution Chamber (industrialforegoing)

Quick summary

  1. Finish the Supreme Machine Frame quest to unlock the souls quest.[3]
  2. Craft the Soul Laser Base and a Blue Laser Lens, and set them up with a Mewtwo, with Stasis Chambers to keep it alive.[3]
  3. Extract the souls with Soul Pipes, or use AE2.[3]
  4. Feed the souls to Soul Surges to accelerate your blocks.[3]

How does Industrial Foregoing: Souls work with other mods?

2 parts

In this pack, Industrial Foregoing: Souls is tied into the rest of your progression through its crafting. The Soul Laser Base, the Soul Pipe and the Soul Surge are all made in the Industrial Foregoing Dissolution Chamber, and the pack added those recipes itself.[4]

The Soul Laser Base is the one that asks for a Supreme machine frame. Its recipe uses a Just Dire Things Unstable Portal Fluid Source, vanilla sculk blocks, a netherite gear, plastic and that Supreme machine frame from Industrial Foregoing. Plan your Industrial Foregoing progression before you try to build it.[4]

Dissolution Chamber (industrialforegoing)

The Soul Surge is cheaper. It also needs the Just Dire Things fluid source and sculk, plus an Echo Shard, but it uses a Simple machine frame instead of a Supreme one.[4]

Dissolution Chamber (industrialforegoing)

Quest and AE2

The quest "Industrial Foregoing Souls" quest sits in the Industrial Foregoing chapter and unlocks after the Supreme Machine Frame quest. Its tasks are the Soul Laser Base, the Soul Pipe, the Soul Surge and the Blue Laser Lens from Industrial Foregoing.[3]

The quest also says the souls collected by the Soul Laser Base can be extracted with Soul Pipes or used with AE2, so you can link this mod to an AE2 setup instead of piping everything by hand.[3]

Watch out: This pack's quest has you extract souls from a Mewtwo rather than a Warden, which is what the mod's own description mentions. The quest says the process hurts the creature and can even kill it, and it recommends Stasis Chambers with upgrades for faster healing. It also says to leave a 3-block gap between the floor and the Soul Laser Base.[1][3]

Which All the Mons quests use Industrial Foregoing: Souls?

3 parts

This mod shows up in one quest chapter, Industrial Foregoing, and the only quest in the sources is "Industrial Foregoing Souls" quest. It's a single stop, so there's no order to follow between several quests.[3]

What comes first

The quest comes after the Supreme Machine Frame quest in the same chapter. Get that one done before you go looking for this one.[3]

What the quest asks for

The quest has these item tasks: Blue Laser Lens, Soul Laser Base, Soul Pipe and Soul Surge.[3]

How the setup works

The quest text explains that this add-on gives you machines that accelerate other machinery. The Soul Laser Base is the heart of it. It works like a Fluid Laser Base pulling Ether Gas from a Wither, and it uses the Blue Laser Lens to extract souls from a Mewtwo.[3]

Once you have the souls, you can pull them out with Soul Pipe or use them with AE2. The Soul Surge then spends those souls to accelerate blocks.[3]

Watch out: Extracting souls hurts the Mewtwo. It takes damage from the process and can even die. The quest highly recommends Stasis Chambers, especially with upgrades to make the healing faster.[3]
Tip: Leave a 3 block gap between the floor and the Soul Laser Base. The quest text says to build it this way and refers to an example image that the sources here don't include.[3]

Which Industrial Foregoing: Souls config options matter?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Industrial Foregoing: Souls has two groups of options: the Soul Laser Base, which pulls souls out of a Warden, and the Soul Surge, which spends those souls to speed up machines. This pack changed most of the laser settings and two of the surge settings. Everything below comes from the pack's machines config file.[1][9]

Soul Laser Base: what the pack changed

Watch out: IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulLaserBase.KILL_WARDEN is true in this pack, so the Warden is killed when its life gets near 0 instead of being kept alive. Combined with the higher damage per operation, plan for the Warden to die sooner than the mod's own defaults would suggest.[9]

Soul Surge: shorter souls, slightly fewer random ticks

Left at the mod default

The acceleration strength is unchanged at 4 extra ticks for each target type: IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulSurge.ACCELERATION_TICK for tile entities, IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulSurge.BLOCK_ACCELERATION_TICK for blocks and IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulSurge.ENTITIES_ACCELERATION_TICK for mobs. IFSoulsMachines.SOUL_AMOUNT_PER_PIPE is also still 4, so each Soul Pipe holds 4 souls.[9]

Tip: Since the surge strength is unchanged, the pack's tuning is mostly about how many souls you get, how fast the laser works, and how long each soul lasts. Plan your soul supply around the 200-tick soul time rather than the longer default.[9]

Unverified The mod's project page lists a default of false for the Warden-kill option, but the pack's config file does not mark that option as changed, so whether the pack actually differs from the mod default there is unconfirmed.

What changed in Industrial Foregoing: Souls between versions?

All the Mons 1.3.0 ships Industrial Foregoing: Souls version 1.10.7, using the file industrial-foregoing-souls-1.21.1-1.10.7.jar. That is the version you are playing with in this pack.[2]

The mod has been in the pack for a long time. It was first included in All the Mons 0.3.0-beta or earlier, so it has been part of the pack since the early releases.[2]

Unverified The detailed changes between Industrial Foregoing: Souls versions, and any pack changelog entries for this mod, could not be confirmed from the available sources, so no per-release changes are listed here.
