What is Extended AE?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 4.14 guide

Extended AE is an add-on for Applied Energistics 2 that streamlines your storage and crafting workflows. It gives you bigger, faster versions of AE2 staples along with brand new machines and tools. This pack runs version 1.21-2.2.23 for NeoForge, and the mod has been included since pack version 2.2 or earlier.[1][2]

What you get

  • A 36-slot Pattern Provider and Interface, so one block can craft or export huge recipe sets.[1]
  • Import and Export Buses that run x8 faster, plus Tag, Mod and Precise Export Buses that filter by item tag, by mod ID or export exactly per slot.[1]
  • The Extended Pattern Access Terminal in wired and wireless versions, and a Pattern Modifier to batch-edit and clone your crafting patterns.[1]
  • Infinity Cells that give you endless water or cobblestone.[1]
  • The Extended Molecular Assembler with x8 parallel crafting, and the Assembler Matrix, a multiblock built around the Assembler Matrix Frame. Its edges are between 3 and 7 blocks long, each pattern core adds 36 pattern slots and each craft core runs 8 crafting jobs at once, all while saving you channels.[1][3]
  • Support machines like the Circuit Slicer, which slices material blocks straight into processor prints and is usually around 9x faster than an Inscriber, and the ME Canner, which fills containers with fluids and can fill other things when the matching addons are installed.[4][5]
  • The ME Wireless Connector, a long-range bridge for your network.[1]

Where it fits

Extended AE builds on top of Applied Energistics 2, so it's something you grow into once your AE2 network is up and running. Most of its extended devices are too complex for a crafting table, which means you'll want a Crystal Assembler early on.[1][6]

The key resource is the Entro Crystal, the main crafting ingredient for most Extended AE items and machines. You get it by harvesting Entro Clusters from Budding Entroized Fluix. It grows a lot like certus quartz, but the budding block always degrades in the end, so plan for a steady supply.[7][8]

Unverified The mod page says Extended AE doesn't support JEI since 1.21 without FTB JEI Extra. Whether this pack includes that mod is unverified. This site does hold All the Mons's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How do you get started with Extended AE?

6 parts

Extended AE is an add-on for Applied Energistics 2, and almost everything in it hangs off one material: the Entro Crystal. Here's the order I'd tackle things in, so you never get stuck waiting on a missing ingredient.[1][9]

Step one: make an Entro Seed

Start with the Entro Seed. Right-click a Fluix Block in the world with it and the block turns into Budding Entroized Fluix, which is the source of your Entro Crystals. It works much like Certus Quartz growth in AE2.[10][11][12]

Step two: harvest Entro Crystals

Let the buds grow on the budding block and harvest the Entro Cluster to get Entro Crystal. It's the main crafting ingredient for most Extended AE items and machines, so this is your core resource.[9][12]

If you break a bud before it's fully grown, you get Entro Shard instead. You can turn shards back into crystals with the recipe below.[13][14]

Watch out: Budding Entroized Fluix degrades, and you can't avoid that. Eventually it turns into something else, so don't count on one budding block lasting forever.[12]

Step three: get Entro Dust and the Entro Infused Ingot

Entro Dust comes from crushing an Entro Crystal or from breaking the budding block. This pack adds a Mekanism crushing recipe for the crystal route.[14][15]

Dust is also the key to Entro Infused Ingot. This pack changed its recipe, so follow the one below rather than the mod's default.[14]

The pack also changed the reaction recipe that turns Entro Dust into crystals.[14]

Step four: build the Extended Machine Frame

The infused ingot goes straight into the Extended Machine Frame. Crystals alone are too brittle for it, which is why they get fused into an ingot first.[14][16]

Step five: craft the Crystal Assembler

Now make the Crystal Assembler. Most Extended AE devices are too complex for a crafting table, so you'll craft them in this machine. It can also do some in-world transformation recipes, like fluix transformation.[17]

Tip: The Crystal Assembler's screen face can't connect to your ME network, so keep that in mind when you place it next to your cables.[17]

Where to go next

With the assembler running, you can start on the devices you actually want. Two of them, the ME Active Formation Plane and the Assembler Matrix Craft Core, have their own Crystal Assembler recipes.[14]

How does Extended AE work?

8 parts

Extended AE is an add-on for Applied Energistics 2, so everything here plugs into your normal ME network. Most block-form machines in the mod are built on the Extended Machine Frame, which the in-game guide calls the foundation of the mod.[1][19]

Crafting the machines

Most extended devices are too complex for a crafting table, so you build them in the Crystal Assembler. It can also run certain in-world transformation recipes, like fluix transformation. Heads up: its screen face can't connect to your network.[17]

In this pack's recipe dump, 12 recipes use the Crystal Assembler's own recipe type, so a lot of the mod's gear goes through it.[14]

The Concurrent Processor is the part used in multi-thread machines so they can handle multiple jobs at once. The pack has changed its Crystal Assembler recipe, so don't rely on what you remember from the base mod.[14][20]

The pack changed this Crystal Assembler recipe compared with the mod.

Assembler Matrix multiblock

The Assembler Matrix is a multiblock that runs a lot of crafting jobs at the same time and saves channels for you. It is a rectangular prism with edge lengths between 3 and 7, and it must be completely filled, not hollow.[21]

A valid matrix needs at least one pattern core and at least one craft core. When it is formed and powered, the lines on the frame turn blue.[21]

  • Pattern Core: the matrix only takes patterns from its pattern cores, and each one provides 36 pattern slots.[21]
  • Assembler Matrix Craft Core: crafting jobs are assigned to craft cores, and each one can run 8 jobs at the same time.[21]
  • Speed Core: 5 speed cores let the matrix run at full speed, and anything beyond 5 gives no extra boost.[21]

Crystal Assembler (extendedae)

Recipe id: extendedae:assembler/assembler_matrix_crafter

In this pack the Craft Core is made in the Crystal Assembler.

Right-click a formed and online matrix to open its GUI. You can put in or search patterns (the pattern slots only accept crafting patterns) and see how many jobs are running. There is also a button to stop all crafting jobs and return the ingredients.[11][21]

Parallel machines

  • Extended Molecular Assembler: runs 8 crafting jobs at once and is 2x faster than the normal one. You can't put a pattern in it directly.[22]
  • Extended Inscriber: runs 4 inscribing jobs at once. A button changes the max stack size of its inventory, and the guide suggests a stack size of 1 in some setups to avoid possible issues.[23]
  • Extended Charger: charges 4 items at the same time.[24]
  • Circuit Slicer: slices material blocks straight into processor prints, and is 9x faster than the inscriber at most times. Glass faces without a port can't connect to the network.[25]
  • ME Extended IO Port: works 8x faster than the normal IO Port and has more upgrade slots.[26]

ME Canner: fluids and energy

The ME Canner fills containers. The first slot is what to fill with and the second is what gets filled. Every operation costs 80 AE. By default it only fills fluids, and you need an addon (Applied Flux, Applied Mekanistics or Applied Botanics Addon) to fill energy, gas or mana.[27]

Only its top and bottom sides accept energy and connect to the network. For autocrafting, the pattern must contain only the stuff to fill and the container to be filled, and the Canner ejects the filled item automatically. In Empty mode it drains containers instead, and you swap the inputs and outputs in the pattern.[27]

Buses, planes and signals

  • ME Extended Import Bus and ME Extended Export Bus work faster than the normal buses and have more upgrade slots. The guide gives a default speed multiplier of 8 and says it is configurable.[28]
  • ME Precise Export Bus exports exact quantities, and only if the target container can accept the whole amount. In the guide's example it exports 3 cobblestones per operation and stops when the network has fewer than 3 or the chest can't hold them all.[29]
  • ME Threshold Export Bus exports only when the stored amount in the network is above or below a threshold. In the guide's example the copper threshold is 128: it exports when the network holds more than 128, and with the mode set to BELOW it exports when the network holds less than 128.[30]
  • ME Tag Export Bus and ME Tag Storage Bus filter by item or fluid tags. The storage bus supports basic logic, for example c:ingots/* | c:gems/* accepts all ingots and gems, and c:raw_materials/* only accepts raw ore.[31][32]
  • ME Mod Export Bus and ME Mod Storage Bus filter by mod name or mod id, and you separate several mod ids with commas.[33][34]
  • ME Precise Storage Bus is filtered with a number and only inserts items up to that limit.[35]
  • ME Active Formation Plane places blocks or drops items actively, and ME Smart Annihilation Plane breaks blocks or absorbs items based on its config inventory. Neither needs a subnet: the first places blocks instead of outputting to a chest, and the second breaks blocks instead of importing from a chest.[36][37]

The ME Threshold Level Emitter acts like a Reset-Set latch. With a lower threshold of 100 and an upper threshold of 150, it stays off until the network amount goes over 150 and then sends redstone. It keeps sending while the amount falls, and turns off only once the amount drops below 100.[38]

  • ME Extended Interface is an interface with a larger config inventory. ME Extended Pattern Provider is a provider with a larger pattern inventory.[39][40]
  • ME Oversize Interface has the same number of slots as a normal interface but holds x16 more items per slot (configurable), so 1,024 items (64x16) per slot. Items from other mods can have their own multiplier via config.[41]
  • ME Extended Drive holds 20 storage cells. ME Ingredient Buffer holds 36 types of anything, from items to fluids.[42][43]
  • ME Wireless Connector links two networks one-to-one, with limited distance and no crossing dimensions. You link them with the ME Wireless Setup Kit, and they can be colored like cables, only connecting to the same color.[44]
  • Wireless power cost rises with distance on a non-linear curve, so very far links get expensive. You can use cards to save power, and each card reduces the energy cost by 10%.[44]
  • ME Wireless Hub works like the connector but can connect up to 8 hubs or connectors at once, using 8 ports. When all ports are taken, you free one manually with the 'X' button.[45]

Bulk tools

  • Config Modifier changes config inventories quickly, such as on interfaces. Click the target block or part in the world. Its modes are Add, Subtract, Multiply, Divide, Maximize, Minimize, Set and Clear.[18]
  • Pattern Modifier edits patterns in bulk. Multiply Mode multiplies or divides processing amounts, but division only works when the amount divides evenly and multiplication is capped at 999,999 per ingredient. It also has Replace, Property and Clone modes.[46]
  • ME Packing Tape packs an in-world ME device into a package when you sneak and right-click it, keeping all settings and inventory. Right-click with the package to unpack. The supported device list is configurable.[47]
  • Device upgrade items turn normal devices into their extended versions when you sneak and right-click them. All settings and inventory are kept.[48]

Entro crystal growth

Entro Crystals grow from Budding Entroized Fluix, much like Certus Quartz. You get a budding block by right-clicking a Fluix Block with an Entro Seed. Unlike certus, the degradation of Budding Entroized Fluix is unavoidable.[11][12]

The Crystal Fixer repairs a budding certus block and turns it into the upgraded one. In this pack it also has a recipe that upgrades a Budding Half Entroized Fluix to a Budding Mostly Entroized Fluix using ender pearl dust.[14][49]

Crystal Fixer (extendedae)

Recipe id: extendedae:fixer/entro_half

This is the in-pack Crystal Fixer recipe.

Unverified The guide calls the bus speed multiplier and the Oversize Interface multiplier configurable defaults. The values this pack actually uses for them are not shown in the sources here, since no config files for this mod are available.

How do you progress through Extended AE?

6 parts

In this pack, Extended AE progression is set by its recipes. The path runs from Entro materials through the Extended Machine Frame to the Crystal Assembler, where many of the extended devices are crafted.[14]

Unverified The sources here show no quests for this mod, so the tiers below follow the in-pack recipes instead of a quest line.

Tier 1: Entro materials

The pack changed the reaction recipes for Entro Crystal and Entro Infused Ingot, so use the recipes below. The pack also adds a Mekanism crushing recipe that turns an Entro Crystal into Entro Dust.[14]

Tier 3: Concurrent Processor

The Concurrent Processor is the key part for most extended machines, since it lets multi-thread machines handle several jobs at once. You make the Inscriber Concurrent Press in the Crystal Assembler, and it needs an Entro gem. The pack changed the Concurrent Processor recipe too.[14][20]

The Circuit Slicer slices material blocks straight into processor prints, and it is 9x faster than an inscriber most of the time. Its recipe needs the Concurrent Press and an Extended Machine Frame.[14][25]

Tier 4: Extended devices and upgrades

With Concurrent Processors available, the extended versions of your AE2 machines open up. These all use Crystal Assembler recipes:[14]

You don't have to tear down an existing network to switch. Upgrade items such as Pattern Provider Upgrade, Interface Upgrade, Import/Export Bus Upgrade, Pattern Access Terminal Upgrade, Drive Upgrade and Wireless Connector Upgrade convert the normal device when you Sneak + Right Click it. All settings and inventory are kept.[48]

How does Extended AE work with other mods?

4 parts

Extended AE is an add-on for Applied Energistics 2, so almost everything in it is built from AE2 parts. The Crystal Assembler shows this well: you make it from AE2 pieces plus an Extended Machine Frame. After that you need it to craft most of the other extended devices.[1][14][17]

Advanced AE

The pack changed several Advanced AE recipes so they depend on Extended AE parts. The Advanced Pattern Provider Capacity Upgrade, the Quantum Crafting Unit, the Quantum Computer Accelerator and the Quantum Computer Multi-Threader all use the Concurrent Processor. The Advanced Extended Pattern Provider builds on the ME Extended Pattern Provider.[14]

Entro crystals and the mods that feed them

The Entro Crystal is a key material, and this pack gives you several routes to it. Extended AE can transform a Fluix Crystal into one in the world. Advanced AE has a reaction recipe for it that the pack changed, and it involves Entro Dust. The pack also added a route from Entro Essence.[14][17]

3× Entro CrystalAdded by the pack

Shaped (kubejs)

8 × Entro Essence

Recipe id: kubejs:mysticalagriculture/entro_essence_crafting

Added by the pack: Mystical Agriculture's Entro Essence becomes an Entro Crystal.

The pack then uses that crystal for the Concurrent Processor. A pack-added Inscriber recipe turns an Entro Crystal and a universal press into a Printed Concurrent Circuit. The Concurrent Processor is commonly used in multi-thread machines.[14][20]

Inscriber (ae2)

Recipe id: kubejs:inscriber/universal_press/concurrent_processor_print

Added by the pack: Entro Crystal plus the universal press gives the Printed Concurrent Circuit.

The pack also added a Circuit Slicer recipe that uses the universal press. The Circuit Slicer cuts material blocks into processor prints directly, so it is 9x faster than an inscriber at most times.[14][25]

Entro Dust shows up in one more place. A pack-changed Applied Energistics transform recipe takes Entro Dust, a Productive Bees configurable bee and water, and gives back the bee together with a Spawn Egg Configurable Bee.[14]

Mekanism, AllTheCompressed and AllTheModium

Added by the pack: it combines the Infinity Cobblestone Cell with AllTheCompressed, AllTheModium and Mekanism items.
