What is Cobblemon?

2 parts

Cobblemon is an open-source Pokémon mod, and it's the heart of this pack. You catch Pokémon, battle wild ones for experience, level them up to unlock moves, and evolve them. The mod's stated goal is to be the Pokémon mod for everyone and to fit into modpacks and Minecraft itself better than other Pokémon mods. It lists over 800 Pokémon to catch.[1]

This pack ships Cobblemon 1.7.3 for Minecraft 1.21.1 on NeoForge. It has been part of the pack since 0.3.0-beta or earlier. The mod's authors say it is still in development, so some features are work-in-progress or placeholders.[1][2]

What you can do with it

  • Battle with the Pokémon Showdown! engine, and keep building, mining or fighting mobs during battles thanks to the free-movement toggle.[1]
  • Log what you see and catch in a Pokédex, which can scan wild Pokémon.[1]
  • Ride your Pokémon, and take on Alpha Pokémon that can be caught or defeated for rewards.[1]
  • Let Pokémon roam free in pastures, and trade and battle with friends in multiplayer.[1]
  • Find, grow and cross-breed berries, and make medicine by putting crops and berries into a brewing stand.[1]
  • Explore ancient structures, and dig up fossils from suspicious gravel or sand to revive them.[1]

Where it fits in the pack

The pack's quest book places Cobblemon in the Getting Started chapter. The quests for the Medicinal Leek, the Revival Herb and the Big Root each come after the AllTheMons quest. The "Remedy" quest quest for the Remedy follows the Big Root quest.[3]

The Evolution chapter then covers how to evolve your team. It includes evolution stones such as the Moon Stone and Fire Stone, and held items for trade evolutions. If you play solo, the Link Cable simulates a trade so those Pokémon can still evolve, as covered in "Evolving through Trading" quest.[4]

How do you get started with Cobblemon?

2 parts

Welcome to Cobblemon in this pack! The pack's quest book gives you a clear early path: pick a starter, catch something, then build up healing, storage and friendship. Here is the order I would follow.[3][5]

Your first steps

  1. Choose a starter Pokémon, then use a Poké Ball to catch your first wild one. Both are early Cobblemon advancements, and the PC quest unlocks after the quest for catching a Pokémon.[3][5]
  2. Find a Big Root and smelt it into a Remedy. Big Roots spawn on cave ceilings above deepslate, like glow berries. You can feed a Remedy to a Pokémon in or out of battle to restore health, and you can craft with it to make stronger versions. See "Remedy" quest.[3]
  3. Find a Revival Herb in a lush cave, or farm it on farmland. Smelt it into Healing Powder, then craft that into a Revive, which brings a fainted Pokémon back with half its health. Using the raw herb on a fainted Pokémon works too, but you lose Friendship. See "Revive" quest.[3]
  4. Grab a Medicinal Leek from fresh water: rivers, ponds and swamps, anything but salt water. Fill bottles with water in a Brewing Stand and brew the leeks into them to make Medicinal Brew, the base for stat boosters, effect cures and other consumables. See "Medicinal Brew" quest.[3]
  5. Get a PC for storing Pokémon. It has 30 boxes that each fit 30 Pokémon, and you drag Pokémon between your team and the boxes. See "PC" quest.[3]
  6. Add a Pasture Block, which works hand in hand with the PC. It lets up to 16 Pokémon wander around the area, and they will attack hostile mobs or mobs you hit. A Pokémon that faints returns to the PC. See "Pasture Block" quest.[3]
Tip: Let your Pokémon walk beside you outside its Poké Ball to build Friendship. If Friendship gets too low, your Pokémon will refuse to battle Trainers. Some items and consumables raise it, while others trade Friendship for other help. The Friendship quest asks for a Soothe Bell: "Friendship" quest.[3]

Better Poké Balls

Once the basics are running, special balls are worth making. The Friend Ball, Luxury Ball and Heal Ball all help a Pokémon after it is caught. The Friend Ball starts your Pokémon at 150 Friend Points, Pokémon in a Luxury Ball gain Friendship twice as fast, and the Heal Ball heals the Pokémon once after the catch. See "Balls that help Pokemon" quest.[6]

In this pack these balls are made in an assembler. Here are two examples.[7]

Heal BallMod recipe

The six ancient balls, such as the Ancient Feather Ball and the Ancient Gigaton Ball, are thrown differently from other balls. The Feather, Wing and Jet balls fly farther than a normal Poké Ball, while the Heavy, Leaden and Gigaton balls do not go as far. In this pack they can be made in an assembler or in a pressure chamber, and the quest book covers them in "Balls that are thrown differently" quest.[6][7]

How does Cobblemon work?

7 parts

Same as in the All the Mons 1.3.0 guide

Cobblemon isn't a tech mod, so there are no power networks or pipes here. Its systems are a few purpose-built blocks and activities: the Healing Machine, the Resurrection Machine, the Pasture Block, brewing, the Campfire Pot, and berry and Apricorn farming. This section covers how each one works in this pack, as far as the sources explain them.[1][8]

Healing Machine

The Healing Machine has to be charged after you place it. Once it has charged, you can use it to heal your whole party.[8]

In this pack the charge time is set by secondsToChargeHealingMachine, which is 900 seconds. infiniteHealerCharge is false, so the machine isn't free to use forever. The pack also sets maxHealerCharge to 6, but the sources don't say what that number means in practice.[9]

Fossils and the Resurrection Machine

Fossils come from excavating suspicious gravel or sand at certain locations. You then revive them in a Resurrection Machine.[1]

Some Fossil Pokémon are made from a combination: a Fossilized Bird or Fish together with a Fossilized Drake or Dino. The pack sets maxInsertedFossilItems to 2.[8][9]

Brewing and cooking

Medicine items are made by putting crops and berries into a brewing stand, and brewed potions heal more than the basic versions. The advancements show the chain. A Medicinal Leek is brewed into Medicinal Brew, an Oran Berry brewed into Medicinal Brew makes a Potion, and following the brewing tree gets you a Full Restore from a Lum Berry and a Max Potion.[1][8]

The Campfire Pot goes on a lit Campfire. You can prepare custom Poké Bait in it and use that bait to reel in a Pokémon. Poké Snacks are baked cakes that attract certain Pokémon depending on the berries used. In this pack, pokeSnackPokemonPerChunk is set to 2.[8][9]

Berries, Apricorns and other crops

Berries grow wild or on farmland, can be mulched for bonuses, and can be cross-bred. If you plant different Berry Trees next to each other, you can witness Mutation and get new berries.[1][8]

Apricorns are harvested with a right-click once fully grown. They occasionally drop a seed you can plant as a new tree, and bone meal speeds up their growth. The pack sets baseApricornTreeGenerationChance to 0.1. Eating an apple can leave you Leftovers, with appleLeftoversChance set to 0.025.[8][9]

Tumblestones can be extracted from suspicious sand or gravel, and one placed near Lava or Magma grows over time.[8]

Pastures

Craft a Pasture Block and your Pokémon can wander around it. The pack's limits are in the config:[8]

Spawning, battles and trading values

These are the values the pack ships in its main config. The sources only give the numbers, not full descriptions of what each option does.[9]

Recipes the pack changed

The type gems, such as Fire Gem and Water Gem, use pack-changed recipes. They are not the mod's defaults, and they are shapeless, so the arrangement doesn't matter.[10]

How do you progress through Cobblemon?

4 parts

Progression for Cobblemon in this pack is driven by the quest book, so you can think of it as a few tiers: heal and store your team, get better Poké Balls, evolve your team, then chase the late-game goals. The chapters are Getting Started, Tips and Poke Tricks, Evolution, Gotta Find Em' All, the Pika Star chapter (marked WIP) and a Master Ball chapter.[3][4][6][11][12][13]

Tier 1: Healing and storage

Getting Started begins with healing items you grow or find yourself. Big Root spawns on cave ceilings above deepslate, and smelting one gives you a Remedy ("Remedy" quest). A Remedy can be fed to a Pokémon in or out of battle to restore health.[3]

Revival Herb grows in Lush Caves and can be farmed. Smelting it gives Healing Powder, which clears effects from a Pokémon but costs friendship. Crafting that powder gives you a Revive ("Revive" quest), which brings a fainted Pokémon back with half its health. The quest also mentions a more powerful Revive made from 3 of them.[3]

Medicinal Leek grows in non-salt water. Brew it in a Brewing Stand with water bottles to get Medicinal Brew ("Medicinal Brew" quest), which is used for stat boosts and effect removal, among other things.[3]

For storage, the PC ("PC" quest) has 30 boxes that each fit 30 Pokémon. The Pasture Block ("Pasture Block" quest) lets up to 16 Pokémon wander around it. If one faints, it returns to the PC.[3]

Tip: Friendship matters for both evolving and battling. Pokémon with too little friendship refuse to battle trainers. Letting them wander outside their ball raises it, and the Soothe Bell from the Friendship quest is one of the helpers.[3]

Tier 2: Better Poké Balls

The Tips and Poke Tricks chapter sorts the special balls into groups. The Friend Ball starts a Pokémon at 150 friend points. The Luxury Ball makes friendship grow twice as fast. The Heal Ball heals the Pokémon once, right after the catch.[6]

A large group, from the Safari Ball to the Beast Ball, gives a better catch chance under certain conditions. The quest lists wild Pokémon stats, time in battle, location and time of day as examples. The 6 ancient balls are thrown differently: Feather, Wing and Jet fly farther than a normal ball, while Heavy, Leaden and Gigaton fall short.[6]

In this pack many of these balls have machine recipes. The recipe dump shows an Oritech assembler route and a PneumaticCraft pressure chamber route for them. Here is the Friend Ball in both.[7]

Tier 3: Evolution

The Evolution chapter covers the items that evolve your team. The Link Cable simulates a trade when used on a Pokémon ("Evolving through Trading" quest). Some trade evolutions also need a held item such as Metal Coat or Kings Rock ("Trading with an Item in Hand" quest).[4]

Tier 4: Fossils, upgrades and late-game goals

The Fossil Resurrection quest ("Fossil Resurrection" quest) uses a 3-block multiblock: the Fossil Analyzer, Data Monitor and Restoration Tank. You fill the tank with fuel, put the fossil in the analyzer and let it run. Then use a Poké Ball on the tank to catch the restored Pokémon automatically.[11]

The PokeRod upgrade template (Smithing Template) comes from a Master Fisherman villager. The quest suggests placing a Barrel as a job site for an unemployed, non-Nitwit villager and trading until all trades unlock.[11]

The Master Ball ("Master Ball" quest) has its own chapter in the quest book, placed after the quest named "Great Ball of Fire, Allthemodium Vibranium and Unobtainium Balls". It catches any Pokémon regardless of level, type or rarity, and its quest also calls it essential for crafting the ATM Star.[13]

The Pika Star chapter is still marked WIP. One quest describes a regional Pika Star ritual: send out 6 Pokémon from the same region near the altar and fill Display Case blocks with Mega Stones. Then offer the 4 ancient balls, including the Ancient Origin Ball, and finally the Unbound Pika Star. Another quest asks you to breed Ditto with a Patrickyu holding an Everstone to get a Patrickyu Egg.[12]

How does Cobblemon work with other mods?

6 parts

Cobblemon connects to several other mods in this pack through recipes the pack and its own items add. The biggest link is catching gear: Oritech machines build Poké Balls from parts made with Create Mon Balls Overhaul items. Here's how it all fits together.[7]

Poké Balls through Oritech and Create Mon Balls Overhaul

Poké Balls have Oritech assembler recipes. Each one uses parts from Create Mon Balls Overhaul: lids such as the Apricorn Wood Ball Lid and ball mechanisms in copper, iron, brass or sturdy versions. There are separate recipes for the regular balls (Poké, Great, Ultra, Premier, Dive, Quick and so on), the Ancient balls, and special balls like the Beast Ball and Cherish Ball.[7]

Apricorns and the Oritech grinder

Oritech's grinder prepares the ball parts. It turns a Stripped Apricorn Log into an Apricorn Wood Ball Lid, and it also grinds each colour of apricorn into its matching half-apricorn item from Create Mon Balls Overhaul. For example, a Red Apricorn becomes a Half Red Apricorn.[7]

Pokemon Egg Incubator

The Pokemon Egg Incubator is also made in the Oritech assembler. One of its inputs is a Cobblemon Protein.[7]

Sawing Cobblemon wood

The pack adds sawing recipes for Cobblemon's wood. In Mekanism's sawing machine, apricorn and saccharine logs give you Apricorn Planks or Saccharine Planks plus Sawdust. Productive Trees' sawmill also handles both log types, taking Sawdust along with the log to make the planks.[7]

Which All the Mons quests use Cobblemon?

6 parts

Cobblemon shows up in several quest chapters in the pack. Most of them are about healing, evolving and catching, and a couple are about bigger projects. Here they are, with the order each quest unlocks in where the sources give one.[3][4][6][11][12][13]

Getting Started

This chapter starts with three gathering quests that all unlock after the AllTheMons quest: a quest in "Getting Started" asks for a Medicinal Leek, a quest in "Getting Started" asks for a Revival Herb, and a quest in "Getting Started" asks for a Big Root. Each one leads to a follow-up.[3]

  1. "Medicinal Brew" quest follows the Medicinal Leek quest and asks for a Medicinal Brew.[3]
  2. "Revive" quest follows the Revival Herb quest and asks for a Revive. The quest text says it brings a fainted Pokemon back with half its health.[3]
  3. "Remedy" quest follows the Big Root quest and asks for a Remedy, which the quest says you get by smelting a Big Root.[3]
  4. "Friendship" quest unlocks after the Leveling up your Pokemon quest and asks for a Soothe Bell. It explains how Friendship works.[3]
  5. "PC" quest unlocks after the Catch a Pokemon! quest and asks for a PC. The quest says it has 30 boxes of 30 Pokemon each.[3]
  6. "Pasture Block" quest comes after the PC quest and asks for a Pasture Block. The quest says you can move up to 16 Pokemon into one.[3]

Tips and Poke Tricks

This chapter is about Poke Balls, and no prerequisites are listed for its quests. "Balls that help Pokemon" quest covers the Friend, Luxury and Heal balls. The quest says the Friend Ball starts a Pokemon at 150 Friend Points and that Pokemon in a Luxury Ball gain Friendship twice as fast.[6]

"Balls with a greater Catch rate" quest accepts any of a long list of situational balls, such as the Quick Ball, Dusk Ball and Beast Ball. "Balls that are thrown differently" quest covers the six ancient balls that are thrown differently, such as the Ancient Feather Ball and Ancient Gigaton Ball.[6]

Evolution

Four quests here have no prerequisite listed: "Evolving Ursaring" quest (a Peat Block), "Charcadet Evolution Items" quest (either Auspicious Armor or Malicious Armor), "Milcery Evolution Item" quest (any of the Sweets) and "Slowpoke Evolution Items" quest (a Galarica Cuff or Galarica Wreath).[4]

Trading comes next. "Evolving through Trading" quest asks for a Link Cable, which the quest says lets you simulate a trade without friends. "Trading with an Item in Hand" quest unlocks after it and accepts trade-evolution held items such as the Metal Coat, Kings Rock and Dubious Disc.[4]

The evolution stone quests each unlock after a matching "Finding ... Stone" quest, and each one asks for its stone.[4]

Gotta Find Em' All

"PokeRod Upgrade Template" quest asks for the Smithing Template. The quest says you get it by trading with a Master Fisherman villager, whose job site block is a Barrel.[11]

"Fossil Resurrection" quest unlocks after the Fossils quest. It asks you to build the Fossil Resurrection multiblock from the Fossil Analyzer, the Data Monitor and the Restoration Tank. The quest text also explains that the tank needs fuel before you start.[11]

The Pika Star (WIP)

This chapter is marked as a work in progress. a quest in "The Pika Star (WIP)" asks for an Everstone and an advancement, and its text is about getting an egg by breeding Ditto with a Pokemon holding an Everstone. a quest in "The Pika Star (WIP)" unlocks after the Unbound Pika Star quest. It involves the Display Case and the Ancient Origin Ball, along with statues and ancient balls from other mods. Its text describes a regional Pika Star ritual at an altar.[12]

Master Ball

"Master Ball" quest asks for a Master Ball and unlocks after the Great Ball of Fire, Allthemodium Vibranium and Unobtainium Balls quest. The quest says the Master Ball catches any Pokemon regardless of level, type or rarity.[13]

Which Cobblemon config options matter?

5 parts

Same as in the All the Mons 1.3.0 guide

Almost everything you can tweak for Cobblemon lives in one file, config/cobblemon/main.json. Below are the options you're most likely to care about, with the exact values this pack uses.[9]

Unverified The sources I was given only show this pack's current values, not the mod's defaults. I can't say which of the values below the pack changed, so treat them all as this pack's settings rather than as confirmed changes.

Experience and leveling

Shinies and spawning

shinyRate is 8192. Spawning is on (enableSpawning is true), with a spawn attempt every 20 ticks (ticksBetweenSpawnAttempts) and up to 8 spawns per pass (maximumSpawnsPerPass). pokemonPerChunk is 1.[9]

Wild Pokémon despawn based on age. despawnerMinAgeTicks is 600 and despawnerMaxAgeTicks is 3600.[9]

Battles and trading

Healing and fainting

The healing machine takes 900 seconds to charge (secondsToChargeHealingMachine) and holds a maximum charge of 6 (maxHealerCharge). infiniteHealerCharge is false, so you can't heal for free forever. Fainted Pokémon use a 300 second timer (defaultFaintTimer) and wake at 0.2 of their health (faintAwakenHealthPercent).[9]

Storage and pastures

What changed in Cobblemon between versions?

3 parts

All the Mons 1.0.0-rc.2 ships Cobblemon 1.7.3 for Minecraft 1.21.1 on NeoForge. Cobblemon has been in the pack since 0.3.0-beta or earlier. Below are the notable changes from the most recent Cobblemon releases, which lead up to the version in your pack.[2][14][15][16]

Unverified No pack changelog entries for Cobblemon were available, so this section only covers the mod's own changelogs. The 1.7.1 and 1.7.2 changelogs were cut off, so some entries may be missing.

1.7.1 (November 29th, 2025)

  • Riding got a big polish pass: vanilla sprinting's field of view change on land mounts, double tap to sprint, a customizable freelook keybind, and smoother land collision and step-ups.[16]
  • Jet pitch turning is 1.5x faster across all Pokémon, and the camera pivot on Bird, Jet and Dolphin mounts was fixed.[16]
  • Party Pokémon now only attack mobs that are attacking their owner, instead of picking fights with unrelated mobs.[16]
  • The Wandering Trader gained trades for Saccharine Saplings, Hearty Grains, Chipped Pot and Masterpiece Teacup, and the Vivichoke Seed trade got cheaper. There is also a new brewing recipe for Throat Spray.[16]
  • Friendship no longer resets to the default value when a Pokémon evolves.[16]
  • A batch of Combee fixes covers depositing honey, pastured Combees not moving at night or in rain, and full hives, plus a Combee and hive crash.[16]
  • Other fixes include a VulkanMod crash when opening PC boxes, several NeoForge mod incompatibilities, and concrete recipes not working on NeoForge.[16]

1.7.2 (January 25th, 2026)

  • New Pokémon: Throh, Sawk, Litleo, Pyroar, Spritzee, Aromatisse, Swirlix and Slurpuff. Honchkrow and Mantine are now rideable.[15]
  • Party Pokémon can earn the Partner Mark with a very small chance as you walk, as long as they have enough friendship.[15]
  • New decorative content: Saccharine wood furniture for Adorn, Plaques (decorative signs), and block models for items like Potion, Full Restore and Dire Hit.[15]
  • A new config option, Enable In-Flight Dismounting, lets you dismount while riding in the air. It is off by default.[15]
  • Riding gained ride style labels in the Pokédex, ride style icons in the summary GUI, and distance statistics for land, air and liquid. Ride sounds are now stereo for passengers and mono for other players.[15]
  • Battle AI now uses a smarter switching threshold, and always uses its most damaging move at low HP when it is not switching.[15]
  • Fixes include crashes when spectating another player and when sending out a Pokémon after editing its form. Pokémon also no longer get saved to chunks and never despawn when they should.[15]

1.7.3 (January 31st, 2026)

This is the version in your pack, and it is a small fix release.[2][14]

  • Fixed mounted Pokémon not playing sounds, and some Pokémon having no stamina for flying.[14]
  • Fixed players randomly failing to join servers.[14]
  • Fixed /pctake not respecting the actual size of the PC.[14]
  • Datapack makers get a new chance requirement type for Pokémon interactions, and Poké Ball GUI textures now respect the ball's namespace so custom balls from other mods load properly.[14]
