What is Neo Eco AE Extension?

1 part

Neo Eco AE Extension is an addon for Applied Energistics 2 that adds higher-performance components. Its big feature is three large multiblock structures that split crafting, storage and computation apart. Each one has three tiers, and every tier is a big performance jump over the one before. This pack ships version 20.4.2 of the mod.[1][2]

The computation multiblock acts as a crafting CPU for your ME network, with threads and accelerators. The crafting multiblock is a pattern provider that runs many patterns at once. The storage multiblock holds the storage matrices.[1][3][4]

Where it sits in the quest book

The pack's quest book gives the mod its own chapter, "Neo ECO AE Extension", in the Production group. It is chapter 31 of 44 and holds 57 quests. This mod is not on the ATM Star quest path.[5]

The chapter starts with materials. You get Aluminum Alloy Dust first, then Black Tungsten Alloy Dust and the alloy ingots. A separate branch starts at Energized Crystal and leads on to Energized Fluix Crystal, Crystal Ingot and Energized Superconductive Ingot.[5]

After that you reach Structure Terminal and ECO - SA Superconducting Processor. Both lead into the checkmark quest "Start of the Multiblocks" quest, "Start of the Multiblocks".[5]

The three first-tier controllers come right after that checkmark: ECO - L4 Storage Controller, ECO - C4 Computation Controller and ECO - F4 Crafting Controller. Each line then climbs in order, from the 4 tier to 6 and then 9. The chapter ends the computation and crafting lines with ECO Computation Subsystem High-Energy Network Switch Module after the C9 controller and ECO Crafting Subsystem High-Energy Network Switch Module after the F9 controller.[5]

The storage side branches from LE4 ECO Storage Component. From there you move on to the LE6 and LE9 components, the matrix housings and the matrices themselves.[5]

How do you get started with Neo Eco AE Extension?

5 parts

This mod adds three big multiblock machines to Applied Energistics 2: storage, computation and crafting. Each comes in three tiers (4, 6 and 9). Before you build any of them you need a chain of materials, and the pack's quest book lays that chain out for you. The chapter is "Neo ECO AE Extension" in the Production group (chapter 31 of 44), and the order below follows it.[5][6]

Step 1: Aluminum alloy

The chapter opens with Aluminum Alloy Dust, so craft that first:[5][7]

Crafting Shapeless

  • any iron dust

Step 2: Energized crystals

Next the quest book asks for Energized Crystal and Energized Crystal Dust, and after that for Energized Fluix Crystal, Crystal Ingot and Cryotheum Powder. The reaction chamber recipe below is the one that makes the crystal:[5][7]

Step 4: Station, terminal and your first controller

The ECO - Integrated Working Station unlocks after the casing and the processor, and the Structure Terminal after the superconductive ingot and the crystal matrix. The station combines several AE2 device functions and is essential for crafting most advanced components, including the multiblock controllers.[5][9]

The "Start of the Multiblocks" checkmark quest opens once you have the processor and the terminal. After it come the entry-level tier 4 controllers: ECO - L4 Storage Controller, ECO - C4 Computation Controller and ECO - F4 Crafting Controller. The C4 controller is made in the station:[5][6][7]

Building it

  1. Craft the components for the system you chose.[6]
  2. Build the multiblock structure to that system's requirements.[6]
  3. Hold the Structure Terminal and right-click the controller to see its pattern and material list.[6]
  4. Pick a build mode, close the panel, then hold Shift and right-click the controller to place missing blocks automatically.[6]
  5. Right-click the controller to check the structure formed, then link it to your ME Network through the interface block.[6]
Tip: In this pack the increaseStorageCellCapacity option is false, so ECO storage matrices keep the old capacity (16MB, 64MB and 256MB for the three tiers).[6][10]

The maximum length of each multiblock is set by structure.computationSystemMaxLength, structure.craftingSystemMaxLength and structure.storageSystemMaxLength. Each of them is 15 in this pack.[10]

How does Neo Eco AE Extension work?

9 parts

Neo ECO AE splits the work of your ME Network into three multiblocks: storage, computation (crafting CPUs) and crafting (pattern providers). Each one comes in three tiers. Most of the advanced parts are made in the ECO Integrated Working Station, so that machine is covered below too.[1][6]

Storage system

The storage multiblock is a controller, drives that hold ECO storage cells, high-density energy cells, a heat sink, an interface and casing. The interface is what ties it into your ME Network, and once it forms, everything stored is reachable from any connected terminal.[11]

  • L4: 16MB per cell and 10,000,000 AE of power storage.[11]
  • L6: 64MB per cell and 100,000,000 AE of power storage.[11]
  • L9: 256MB per cell and 1,000,000,000 AE of power storage.[11]
  • The energy cell tier must match the controller tier, and the heat sink is required for thermal management.[11]
  • In this pack increaseStorageCellCapacity is set to false, which keeps the old capacities listed above.[10]

The maximum structure length is set by structure.storageSystemMaxLength, which is 15 in this pack. Computation and crafting have their own length options too, structure.computationSystemMaxLength and structure.craftingSystemMaxLength, both 15 here.[10]

Compatibility storage matrices

When the AE2 Omni Cells mod is installed, you also get Omni matrices that accept every AE key type, so items, fluids, energy and chemicals can share one matrix. A storage controller can run matrices of its own tier or lower. The standard Omni family holds up to 63 distinct types. Complex Omni trades a much higher idle drain for a bigger type limit: 1,600 types and 256 AE/t at 16 MB. Quantum Omni has no type limit but a huge idle drain, starting at 6,561 AE/t.[12]

The pack has a recipe for the ECO - LE4 Storage Matrix (Complex Omni), made in the Integrated Working Station.[7]

Integrated Working Station (neoecoae)

Recipe id: neoecoae:compat/ae2omnicells/eco_complex_omni_cell_16m

Computation system

The computation system replaces standard AE2 crafting CPUs. Once formed, it shows up as a crafting CPU, and you pick it as the target when you start a crafting job. Its GUI shows used and total threads, used and available storage, and the parallelism count.[3]

  • C4: 64 accelerators, 1 thread, 64MB storage per cell.[3]
  • C6: 192 accelerators, 2 threads, 256MB storage per cell.[3]
  • C9: 576 accelerators, 4 threads, 1GB storage per cell.[3]

Threading cores provide the threads, and each thread handles one crafting job at a time. A controller accepts cores of its own tier or lower. Parallel cores such as the ECO - CT4 Parallel Core provide the accelerators. The ECO - CD Crystal Drive holds the computation cells that give your jobs their storage, and a cooling controller sits at the end of the structure to manage heat.[3][7]

In this pack the C4 controller is made in the Integrated Working Station.

The computation system also schedules work more aggressively than original AE-style smoothed scheduling. This is meant for the high-speed workers of the crafting system: when a worker can finish a pattern in a few ticks, the CPU has to refill the next batch immediately to avoid idle gaps.[3]

Crafting system

The crafting system is a pattern provider that runs many patterns at once. It supports overclocking and active cooling. Each tier has a base batch of 32 per slot, and the overclocked batch is 128 for F4, 256 for F6 and 512 for F9.[4]

Each FX Worker provides one independent task thread. The pattern bus holds your patterns, and parallel cores add structural capacity. Capacity beyond what the workers can use raises overflow overclock, but it does not change the batch size of a thread.[4]

The smart pattern bus has a set number of 63-slot pages. This pack sets craftingPatternBusPages to 2, and the option accepts 1 to 8.[10]

Active cooling

The fluid input hatch feeds coolant into the crafting system and the fluid output hatch expels the used coolant. With active cooling on, the machine burns coolant to boost performance and drop the extra energy cost of overclocking. If coolant runs out mid-job, the machine stops. If the output hatch is full, the machine can't pull more coolant from the input hatch.[4][13]

The pack defines its own cryotheum cooling recipe. It takes 100 of Cryotheum Solution and produces 10,000 of a coolant fluid from the pack's KubeJS content, with a coolant value of 25,000 and a maximum overclock of 15.[14]

Network exchange

Both the computation and crafting systems can link several C9 or F9 hosts on the same ME network through exchange modules. You need at least two linked hosts, and a single host stays at x1. Normal modules give x2 and high-energy modules give x8. The power draw goes up to x4 and x16 respectively. Normal and high-energy modules can be mixed, and each host contributes according to its own module.[3][4]

  • Computation: each host's threads, accelerators and storage are added to the network. High-energy needs a C9 cooling controller on the host, otherwise that host contributes at x1.[3]
  • Ultimate mode: at least 8 high-energy C9 hosts, each with at least 10 Threading Cores and every upper and lower Computation Drive filled with a valid Flash Array. The CPU then uses 2,147,483,647 parallelism and 9,223,372,036,854,775,807 bytes of storage. Active job bytes still count against that storage.[3]
  • Crafting: all member pattern buses are combined into one set, and the hosts share one GUI and one coolant pool. Normal exchange costs 4 coolant per active task thread per tick and high-energy costs 16. If the pool can't pay, the multiplier falls back to x1, and tasks pause and resume from the same progress once coolant is restored.[4]
  • With exactly 8 linked F9 hosts in an active x8 exchange, eligible fast-path tasks use virtual crafting. The whole task amount is accepted in one submission without the per-slot batch cap, at a fixed 10,000 mB of coolant per task thread per tick.[4]

Fast path and performance options

The pack ships these server config values. fastPath.ecoAe2FastPathEnabled is true, which turns on the batch crafting cache. The mod turns the fast path off automatically if postCraftingEvent is enabled, and the pack has that set to false. fastPath.ecoCpuPushTickLimit caps scheduled crafting operations per tick at 393,216, and fastPath.ecoFastPathCacheSize is 512 recipe entries per cache. The two debug options, fastPath.debugEcoFastPath and debug.debugECOPlanner, are both false, so leave them off unless you are diagnosing a problem.[10]

Building with the Structure Terminal

You don't have to place every block by hand. The Structure Terminal currently supports storage, computation and crafting, and it builds from a planned pattern that you can review first.[15]

  1. Place the controller and check that it faces the way you planned. The terminal currently needs a linked controller before it can build.[15]
  2. Hold the Structure Terminal and right-click the controller to open the panel and link it. The system and tier are detected automatically for the systems it currently supports.[15]
  3. Pick the length, then check the planned pattern, mirror direction and material list that the panel currently shows.[15]
  4. Select Build or Mirrored Build and close the panel. This currently only arms the operation, so nothing is placed yet, and the planned positions and materials are checked again when construction starts.[15]
  5. Hold Shift and right-click the linked controller with the same terminal. That is the step that currently starts construction of the planned structure.[15]

In creative mode, all missing blocks appear at once if there are no conflicts. In survival mode, the structure is built step by step on server ticks, and materials are only used as each block is placed. The terminal can draw from supported containers such as shulker-like boxes and backpacks. Conflicting blocks are treated as conflicts and are not overwritten, and building doesn't run on a controller that is already formed. Choose Dismantle to take a structure down the same way.[15]

Integrated Working Station

The Integrated Working Station has 9 input slots, a fluid input and output of 16,000 mB each, and runs on FE. It can take power from your ME Network, export finished products automatically, and accept AE2 speed upgrades. The controllers for all three systems and the ECO storage cell components are crafted in it.[9]

The pack also has its own data file for the ECO - SA Superconducting Processor, which many of these recipes need. It is an Advanced AE reaction chamber recipe that costs 20,000 energy and 100 water, and it only loads when Advanced AE is present.[7][16]

How do you progress through Neo Eco AE Extension?

7 parts

In the pack's quest book this mod's chapter sits in the Production group. Its quests lead you from alloys, to energized crystals, to the superconducting processor, to the multiblock controllers. Storage, computation and crafting each come in three tiers.[3][4][5]

Step 1: Alloys and tools

The chapter's first quests ask you to obtain a quest in "Neo ECO AE Extension", then a quest in "Neo ECO AE Extension", and then a quest in "Neo ECO AE Extension", which asks for both the aluminum alloy and black tungsten alloy ingots.[5]

The tool quests come next. a quest in "Neo ECO AE Extension" and a quest in "Neo ECO AE Extension" ask for the base aluminum and tungsten tool sets. The alloy tool sets are upgrades done at a smithing table with the Aluminum Alloy Upgrade Smithing Template. The template quest unlocks after the Energized Fluix Crystal quest, so you will come back for these later.[5][7]

Step 2: Energized crystals

The crystal branch asks first for an OR Filter, then a quest in "Neo ECO AE Extension" and a quest in "Neo ECO AE Extension". From the dust it splits three ways: a quest in "Neo ECO AE Extension", a quest in "Neo ECO AE Extension" and a quest in "Neo ECO AE Extension". Extraterrestrial Frost is crafted from the cryotheum powder, and the Crystal Matrix from the Crystal Ingot. The quests then lead from Energized Fluix to the Energized Superconductive Ingot.[5][7]

The Aluminum Alloy Casing quest needs both a Crystal Ingot and an Aluminum Alloy Ingot done first. You will need that casing for the next steps.[5]

Step 3: The superconducting processor

The quests ask for a quest in "Neo ECO AE Extension", then a quest in "Neo ECO AE Extension", then a quest in "Neo ECO AE Extension". The circuit board is inscribed from the Superconductive Ingot and the pressing die, and the processor is inscribed from the board.[5][7]

The pack changes the reaction chamber route for the processor. It takes 20,000 energy and 100 water per run.[7][16]

Step 4: Workstation and multiblocks

The ECO - Integrated Working Station quest follows the Aluminum Alloy Casing and processor quests, and its recipe uses both the casing and the processor. The Structure Terminal quest follows the Superconductive Ingot and Crystal Matrix quests. The checkmark quest "Start of the Multiblocks" quest follows the processor and terminal quests.[5][7]

After the checkmark, the chapter branches into three controller lines side by side: storage (L4), computation (C4) and crafting (F4). The computation and crafting controllers each determine the tier of their system, and each line then climbs through its own chain.[3][4][5]

The three tiers

The cooling controllers have their own recipes, and the C6 version builds on the C4 one.[7]

Storage matrix branches

Once you have the LE4 component, the item housing, fluid, chemical and FE matrix quests all open. The Omni, Complex Omni, Quantum Omni and Mana housing quests unlock after the Item housing. Quantum Omni matrices have no type limit.[5][12]

Mana Infusion (botania)

Endgame

The High-Energy Network Switch Module quests come after the C9 and F9 controllers. Exchange modules link C9 hosts (or F9 hosts) on the same ME network. You need at least two linked hosts, and a single host stays at x1. Normal modules give x2 resources and high-energy modules give x8.[3][4][5]

Tip: The computation ultimate mode needs at least 8 high-energy C9 hosts. Each needs at least 10 Threading Cores and every upper and lower drive filled with a valid Flash Array. The aggregate CPU then gets 2,147,483,647 parallelism.[3]

The ECO Infinite Storage Component quest sits behind two fluid-task quests that follow the Integrated Working Station. The pack adds its own recipe for it, and that recipe makes 64.[5][7]

The pack also changes the cryotheum solution cooling recipe. It turns 100 of the solution into 10,000 of the pack's own cryotheum coolant fluid. It has a coolant value of 25,000 and a max overclock of 15.[14]

How does Neo Eco AE Extension work with other mods?

5 parts

Neo ECO AE Extension is an addon for Applied Energistics 2, so most of its links are to AE2 itself. This pack also wires it into several other mods through recipes. Here is what the in-pack recipes and the quest book show.[1][7]

Applied Energistics 2

Many multiblock parts are crafted from AE2 blocks and processors alongside the mod's own casings. Your AE2 progression feeds straight into this chapter. The ECO - Integrated Working Station handles the bigger crafts, such as the ECO - L4 Storage Controller.[7]

The late-game network switch modules pull in a lot of AE2 gear, including crafting storage and Molecular Assemblers. The crafting version is made in the Integrated Working Station.[7]

AE2 Omni Cells

The Omni, Complex Omni and Quantum Omni matrix families only exist when AE2 Omni Cells is installed, and this pack has their recipes. The Omni housing is made with Ender Steel Ingot. The Complex Omni housing needs Charged Ender Steel Ingot and a Complex Link Processor. The Quantum Omni housing needs a Multidimensional Expansion Processor.[7][12]

The matrix itself is assembled in the Integrated Working Station.

In the quest book, the Omni, Complex Omni and Quantum Omni housing quests all come after the ECO Item Storage Matrix Housing quest. The Complex Omni and Quantum Omni matrix quests each follow their own housing quest. See a quest in "Neo ECO AE Extension", a quest in "Neo ECO AE Extension", a quest in "Neo ECO AE Extension" and a quest in "Neo ECO AE Extension".[5]

Complex Omni matrices have type limits from 1,600 to 6,400, with an idle drain of 256 to 1,024 AE/t. Quantum Omni matrices have no type limit and four times the capacity of the matching standard matrix. Empty Omni matrices can be disassembled with alternate-use to get their housing and ECO storage component back.[12]

Watch out: The in-game guide says a Quantum Omni matrix uses four Quantum Omni Cell Components, but the recipe in this pack asks for 10 of the 16M Quantum Storage Component. Follow the recipe, not the guide text.[7][12]

Applied Flux

The FE storage matrices link in Applied Flux. They are built in the Integrated Working Station from Applied Flux energy storage components and Energy Processor items, plus an ECO FE housing. The ECO - LE4 FE Storage Matrix quest comes after the LE4 ECO Storage Component quest a quest in "Neo ECO AE Extension".[5][7]

Recipes the pack added or changed

The pack adds its own recipe for the Advanced AE Reaction Chamber. It is crafted in an Extended Crafting shaped table. It asks for items from several different mods, plus the mod's ECO - LT4 High Density Energy Cell.[7]

The pack also changes a Reaction Chamber recipe for the ECO - SA Superconducting Processor. It only loads when Advanced AE is installed and costs 20,000 energy, and one craft gives 4 processors.[16]

The ECO Infinite Storage Component is a pack recipe too. It combines the LONG-tier Creative Storage Cell with a Ultimate Fluid Tank and a KubeJS token item, and one craft gives 64. The quest for it is a quest in "Neo ECO AE Extension".[5][7]

Cooling is changed by the pack as well. Its own data file turns 100 Cryotheum Solution into 10,000 of the KubeJS fluid Cryotheum Coolant. The same file lists a coolant value of 25,000 and a max overclock of 15. The high-energy network switch modules each use 16,000 Cryotheum Solution.[7][14]

Where this sits in the quest book

The "Neo ECO AE Extension" chapter is in the Production group, chapter 31 of 44, and has 57 quests. The L4, C4 and F4 controller quests come after "Start of the Multiblocks", and the Energized Crystal quest a quest in "Neo ECO AE Extension" comes after "OR Filter". Eight quests in this chapter have no text here, so check the quest book for them.[5]

Which Project Infinity 0.1 quests use Neo Eco AE Extension?

4 parts

In the pack's quest book, everything for this mod sits in one chapter, "Neo ECO AE Extension". The book puts it in the Production group, as chapter 31 of 44. The quests ask you to hand in items, starting with alloy dusts and ending with the ECO controllers and switch modules.[5]

Two untitled quests that ask for a fluid come after the Integrated Working Station quest. a quest in "Neo ECO AE Extension" asks for ECO Infinite Storage Component and comes after an untitled quest and one more quest.[5]

Which Neo Eco AE Extension config options matter?

5 parts

Everything here lives in one file, craftingPatternBusPages is just the first of its options, and the file is shipped through the pack's defaultconfigs folder. Below are the options you're most likely to care about and the exact values this pack uses.[10]

Storage capacity

increaseStorageCellCapacity is set to false in this pack, which keeps the old ECO Storage Matrix capacity. If it were true, the capacity would become L4=256MiB, L6=4GiB and L9=64GiB, and computation flash capacity would be multiplied by 16. The config's own description says the mod default is true when GregTech Modern/GTCEu is loaded and false otherwise. Changes only fully apply after you re-enter the world or restart the server.[10]

Multiblock size

The three multiblocks each have a maximum length in blocks, and this pack sets all three to 15. Higher values allow longer expansions but may increase structure check cost.[10]

Pattern bus pages

craftingPatternBusPages controls how many 63-slot pages each smart crafting pattern bus has. The pack sets it to 2, and the allowed range is 1 to 8.[10]

Fast path and crafting speed

fastPath.ecoAe2FastPathEnabled is true, so the ECO AE2 fast-path batch crafting cache is on. If a modpack has recipe compatibility issues, the description says to disable it to fall back to the slow path.[10]

fastPath.ecoCpuPushTickLimit is 393,216, which is also the top of its allowed range (1 to 393,216). It's a safety cap on crafting operations a CPU may schedule per tick, for both fast and regular paths. The effective value is still limited by your available co-processors.[10]

fastPath.ecoFastPathCacheSize is 512 recipe entries per ECO fast path cache (range 16 to 16,384). Changes fully apply to newly created caches after re-entering the world or restarting the server.[10]

Watch out: Fast Path is automatically disabled when postCraftingEvent is enabled. This pack has it set to false. Turning it on posts a vanilla ItemCraftedEvent when the Crafting System finishes a recipe, which may add event and listener overhead, more noticeably with mods like Balm installed.[10]

Debug options

All the debug toggles are off in this pack. Only turn them on while diagnosing a problem.[10]

  • debug.debugECOPlanner logs the stage, reason, request, solver state and fallback details for ECO planning failures. Messages are deduplicated and rate-limited.[10]
  • fastPath.debugEcoFastPath logs Fast Path cache statistics and fallback diagnostics, useful for Fast Path compatibility problems.[10]

What changed in Neo Eco AE Extension between versions?

3 parts

Project Infinity 0.1 0.0.51.4-hotfix-2 ships Neo Eco AE Extension 20.4.2. The mod was already in the pack by 0.0.51.1 or earlier. Below are the notable changes from the mod's own changelogs for 20.3.0, 20.4.0 and 20.4.2.[2]

20.3.0

Watch out: This release adjusted the Storage Host multiblock structure. If Infinite Storage is enabled in your world, back up the world first, or move all items and fluids out of Infinite Storage before updating.[17]
  • The Storage, Computation and Crafting Host interfaces were reworked, with storage capacity and type statistics, task lists, runtime metrics and Smart Pattern Bus pagination.[17]
  • The IWS gained support for ExtendedAE Plus Entity Acceleration Cards (x2/x4/x8/x16), which can be mixed with AE2 Speed Cards.[17]
  • The IWS limit went up to one completed recipe per tick, and the total energy cost of each recipe stays the same across acceleration levels.[17]
  • Fixed ECO CPUs not being discovered by the AE2 network.[17]

20.4.0

  • Added Crafting Network Switches and Computation Network Switches, plus high-energy variants, to organize ECO Crafting and Computation subsystems into switchable logical clusters. They connect to the AE2 power grid and have frequency settings to reduce accidental cross-network connections.[18]
  • Added a Fast Task Planning path tied into real AE crafting tasks. It supports cyclic recipes, NBT/dynamic/replacement patterns and reusable catalysts.[18]
  • Fast Planning became a network-wide master switch, with fair dispatching between Exchange Hosts so one host can't monopolize tasks.[18]
  • Infinite Storage moved to the SavedData engine, with idempotent migration, WAL persistence, fault isolation and recovery diagnostics. Capacity statistics now use binary byte units.[18]
  • Added 4 GiB ECO Omni Cells and Omni integration storage cells.[18]
  • Fixed lost outputs and stalled crafting jobs when a Crafting CPU recovered after a crash or world reload.[18]

Unverified The 20.4.0 changelog available here is cut off, so the rest of its fixes list is unconfirmed.

20.4.2 (the version in this pack)

  • Added GTCEu recipe and material-tag compatibility for silicon dust, Certus Quartz blocks and related materials, including GTCEu macerator recipes and Large Chemical Reactor recipes.[19]
  • Hardened ECO storage SavedData persistence with coordinated writes, persistence verification and failure isolation.[19]
  • Improved migration of L9 ECO storage cells to infinite storage, including OmniCells universal storage cells.[19]
  • Fixed incomplete ECO crafting plans still being submitted to AE2.[19]
  • Fixed potential data clearing, duplicate mounting and data loss during storage-cell migration.[19]
  • Fixed non-empty storage cells being dismantled or nested.[19]
