What is Extended AE?
1 part
Extended AE is an add-on for Applied Energistics 2 that streamlines storage and crafting workflows. This pack includes version 2.2.36 for NeoForge.[1][2]
The big draws are a 36-slot Pattern Provider and Interface, tag, mod and precise buses for filtering, an Extended Molecular Assembler, and the Assembler Matrix, a scalable multiblock crafter. There are also handy devices like the ME Canner and the ME Active Formation Plane, which places blocks or drops items without needing a subnet.[1][3]
Where it fits in the pack
Everything starts with the Entro system. Entro Crystal is the main crafting ingredient for most Extended AE items and machines. You get it by turning a block into Budding Entroized Fluix (an Entro Seed is used for this) and then harvesting the Entro Clusters. Many of the extended devices are too complex for a crafting table, so you need the Crystal Assembler to craft most of them.[4][5][6]
In the pack's quest book, Extended AE sits in the Logistics Storage chapter. Here is the order the quests follow:[7]
- "Growing Entro Crystals" quest asks for an Entro Seed, an Entro Crystal and an Extended Machine Frame.[7]
- a quest in "Storage" comes after that one and asks for the Crystal Assembler and the Concurrent Processor. Concurrent Processors are used in multithreaded machines so they can handle several tasks at once.[7][8]
- a quest in "Storage" covers the storage buses: the regular AE2 one plus the ME Tag Storage Bus, ME Mod Storage Bus and ME Precise Storage Bus.[7]
- A separate chain starts at "The Assembler Matrix Structure" quest, which asks for the Assembler Matrix Wall. Four quests follow it: "Assembler Matrix Craft Core" quest, "Assembler Matrix Frame" quest, "Assembler Matrix Pattern Core" quest and "Assembler Matrix Speed Core" quest, one for each matrix part. "Max Size Assembler Matrix" quest also follows it and asks for a wall or glass, a frame, a pattern core, a craft core and a speed core together.[7]
The Assembler Matrix is a rectangular multiblock with edge lengths between 3 and 7. It needs at least one Assembler Matrix Pattern Core and one Assembler Matrix Craft Core. It can run many crafting jobs at once and save you channels.[9]
Unverified Whether the ATM Star quest path uses this mod is not shown in the sources here. The pack's quest book is where that would be told.
How do you get started with Extended AE?
6 parts
Almost everything in Extended AE hangs off one material, the Entro Crystal. It is the main crafting ingredient for most of the mod's items and machines, so your first job is to set up a way to get it. The order below follows the early quests of the pack's storage chapter.[4][7]
Make an Entro Seed
Start with the Entro Seed. Right-click a Fluix Block in the world with it and the block turns into Budding Entroized Fluix. That block is where Entro Crystals grow, much like Certus Quartz works in AE2.[5][10]

This is the pack's recipe for the seed.
Budding Entroized Fluix degrades over time and you can't prevent it. Breaking it gives you Entro Dust, which you will need in the next steps. An Entro Bud broken before it is fully grown gives an Entro Shard instead.[12][13][14]
Get Entro Crystals
Harvest the clusters that grow on your budding block to collect crystals. The pack also adds its own Entro Crystal recipe that is made in a Crystal Assembler, and it changes the reaction recipe for the same item, so check the recipe viewer for the version you want to use.[4][11]

The pack changed this reaction recipe.
Shards from unfinished buds can be recycled back into crystals.[11][14]
Shards turn back into crystals with this recipe.
Fuse an Entro Infused Ingot
Raw crystal is too brittle for a machine frame, so you fuse it into an Entro Infused Ingot first. The pack changed this recipe, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults.[11][15]

Build the Machine Frame and Crystal Assembler
The Extended Machine Frame is the base part for the Crystal Assembler, and it needs the ingot you just made. The seed, the crystal and the frame are the three tasks of the quest "Growing Entro Crystals" quest.[7][11][15]

Most Extended AE devices are too complex for a crafting table, so the Crystal Assembler is what you will craft them in. It can also do certain in-world transformation recipes, such as fluix transformation.[6]
Craft a Concurrent Processor
The Concurrent Processor is used in multithreaded machines so they can handle several tasks at once. In the pack it is crafted in the Crystal Assembler, and it shares the quest a quest in "Storage" with the Crystal Assembler itself.[7][8][11]

Where to go next
The storage chapter then moves on to the Assembler Matrix, starting with the quest "The Assembler Matrix Structure" quest for the Assembler Matrix Wall. The Matrix is a multiblock crafter that needs at least one Pattern Core and one Craft Core, and its edge lengths must be between 3 and 7. The pack changed the recipe for its frame, so look at that one first.[7][9]

How does Extended AE work?
11 parts
Extended AE is an add-on that builds on modern AE, so everything here plugs into your normal ME network. Most of its block machines are built on the Extended Machine Frame, and Entro Crystals are the main ingredient for most of its items and machines. Here is how the main systems behave in the pack.[4][16][17]
Crafting the machines
The extended devices are too complex for a crafting table, so you craft most of them in the Crystal Assembler. It can also do some in-world transformation recipes, such as fluix transformation. The face with the screen cannot connect to the network.[6]
In this pack the Crystal Assembler is also allowed to do processor inscriber recipes, because device.enable_crystal_assembler_inscribe_processors is set to true.[18]

Entro growth
Entro Crystals grow from Budding Entroized Fluix, much like Certus Quartz does. You make the budding block by right-clicking a Fluix Block in the world with an Entro Seed. The guide also mentions injecting the seed with a machine, but that gives lower-grade budding blocks than doing it by hand.[5][10][12]

Unlike Certus Quartz, the degradation of Budding Entroized Fluix is unavoidable. If you break an Entro Bud before it is fully grown, you get an Entro Shard. Eight shards can be crafted back into a crystal, and the recipe dump lists the recycle recipe below.[11][12][14]
Assembler Matrix
The Assembler Matrix is a multiblock that can run many crafting jobs at once and saves channels. The structure is a solid block: Assembler Matrix Frame makes up the edges, Assembler Matrix Wall or Assembler Matrix Glass makes up the faces, and the Pattern, Craft and Speed Cores make up the interior. It must be completely filled and can't be hollow.[9]
The in-game guide says edges can be between 3 and 7 blocks. In this pack the size is governed by device.assembler_matrix_max_size, which is set to 6, the same as the mod default (the allowed range is 3 to 16). Treat 6 as your limit.[9][18]
- Pattern Core: the matrix only takes patterns from these. Each one provides 36 pattern slots.[9]
- Craft Core: it receives the crafting jobs, and each one can run 8 at the same time.[9]
- Speed Core: 5 speed cores give full speed. More than 5 add no extra boost.[9]
A valid matrix needs at least one Pattern Core and one Craft Core. When it is formed and powered, the lines on the frame turn blue. Right-click a formed, online matrix to open its GUI, where you can add or search patterns and see how many jobs it is running.[9]
The pack changed the frame recipe. The wall and glass recipes are the mod's own.[11]

Parallel and fast machines
- Extended Inscriber: runs 4 inscribing jobs at once. Like the normal Inscriber, it has a button for its inventory's maximum stack size, and the guide recommends setting it to 1 for automation to avoid possible issues.[19]
- Extended Molecular Assembler: runs eight crafting jobs at once and works twice as fast as the normal one, but it only takes jobs from pattern providers, so you cannot put a pattern in it directly.[20]
- Extended Charger: charges 4 items at the same time.[21]
- Circuit Slicer: slices material blocks straight into processor prints, up to nine times faster than an Inscriber. Glass faces without a port cannot connect to the network.[22]
- ME Extended IO Port: operates eight times faster than the normal one and has more upgrade slots.[23]
ME Canner
The ME Canner fills containers with fluids, and each operation costs 80 AE. Only its top and bottom sides accept energy and connect to the network. By default it fills only fluids. Other materials need the matching addon: Applied Flux, Applied Mekanistics or Applied Botanics Addon.[24]
For autocrafting, the pattern must contain only the filling material and the container to be filled. The Canner ejects the filled item automatically. To drain a container instead, use Empty mode and swap the inputs and outputs in the pattern.[24]
Storage, interfaces and providers
- ME Extended Pattern Provider and ME Extended Interface are the normal versions with larger pattern and configuration inventories.[25][26]
- ME Oversize Interface has the same number of slots as a normal interface but holds 16 times as many items per slot, so 1024 (64 x 16). The pack keeps device.oversize_interface_multiplier at 16, and device.custom_oversize_interface_multiplier sets 2 for mana (appbot:mana) and 4 for flux (appflux:flux).[18][27]
- ME Extended Drive is a drive that holds 20 storage cells.[28]
- ME Ingredient Buffer is a storage block that holds 36 types of contents, from items to fluids.[29]
- The infinity water and cobblestone cells hold 2.1 billion items/fluids and give unlimited extraction or insertion of their one resource. In the pack, item.infinity_cell_energy_cost sets the idle cost to 8 AE/t.[18][30]
Buses and filtering
The extended import and export buses are faster than the normal ones and have more upgrade slots. The speed multiplier is device.extended_io_bus_multiplier, and the pack leaves it at the default 8.[18][31]
- ME Mod Export Bus and ME Mod Storage Bus filter by mod name or mod ID. Separate multiple mod IDs with commas.[32][33]
- The Tag Export and Tag Storage Buses filter by item or fluid tags. The Tag Storage Bus supports basic logical operators: parentheses set priority and * is a wildcard. Example filters are c:raw_materials/* for raw ore, or c:ingots/* | c:gems/* for ingots and gems.[10][34][35]
- The Precise Export Bus exports specified quantities and only exports if the container can fully accept the entire output. With 3 cobblestone configured, it stops when the network holds fewer than 3.[36]
- The Precise Storage Bus has a numerical limit and inserts items only up to that limit.[37]
- The Threshold Export Bus exports when the stored amount is above or below its threshold. With copper at 128 in the default mode, it exports when the network holds more than 128.[38]
The Threshold Level Emitter works like a reset-set latch. With a lower threshold of 100 and an upper threshold of 150, it switches on once the amount passes 150. It stays on while the amount falls, and only switches off below 100.[39]
World interaction
- ME Active Formation Plane actively places blocks or drops items, and needs no subnet. It works like an export bus that places blocks instead of outputting to a chest.[3]
- ME Smart Annihilation Plane breaks blocks or absorbs items according to its configuration inventory, and also needs no subnet.[40]
- ME Vacuum Interface collects dropped items in its working area and inserts them into the network. Items the network cannot accept stay in the world. The default area is 5 x 5 x 5 blocks, centered on the interface. Each dimension can be up to 10 blocks, and the offset can be up to 16 blocks.[41]
Wireless links
The ME Wireless Connector links two networks one-to-one. It has limited range and cannot cross dimensions. Use the ME Wireless Setup Kit to click the two connectors, and sneak + click to clear the kit's setting. Connectors can be colored like cables and only link to cables or connectors of the same color.[42]
In the pack, device.wireless_connector_max_range is 1,000, the mod default. Power use grows with distance on a non-linear curve, so very long links get expensive. Cards can cut the cost, 10% per card. The pack leaves device.wireless_connector_power_multiplier at 1.[18][42]
Upgrading and moving devices
The upgrade items (Pattern Provider Upgrade, Interface Upgrade, Import/Export Bus Upgrade, Pattern Access Terminal Upgrade and Drive Upgrade) turn normal ME devices into extended versions without breaking them. Sneak + right-click the device, and all settings and inventories are kept. The wireless connector upgrade does the same for a Wireless Hub.[43]
The pack changed these upgrade recipes, so don't rely on the mod's defaults. Here is one example.[11]
Crafting Shapeless
- any extended pattern provider
- any sky osmium ingot
Recipe id: extendedae:ex_pattern_provider_upgrade
ME Packing Tape packs an in-world ME device into a package item when you sneak + right-click it, keeping all settings and inventory. Right-click with the package to unpack it. The device list is configurable. The pack's item.me_packing_tape_whitelist also includes the oversize interface and its cable part, along with the extended interface, pattern provider, extended drive and their AE2 counterparts.[18][44]
Bulk editing tools
The Pattern Modifier edits patterns in bulk. In Multiply mode it multiplies or divides a processing pattern's inputs and outputs. Division only works when the amount divides evenly, and multiplication caps at 999999 per ingredient. The pack's item.pattern_modifier_multipliers offers 2, 3, 5 and 7. Replace mode swaps one ingredient for another, Property mode changes a crafting pattern's substitution settings, and Clone mode copies a pattern.[18][45]
The Config Modifier bulk-edits configuration inventories, such as an interface's. Its modes are Add, Subtract, Multiply, Divide, Maximize, Minimize, Set and Clear, with an amount X for the ones that need it. Click a block or part with it to apply the change.[46]
How do you progress through Extended AE?
5 parts
Extended AE doesn't have a strict tier ladder in this pack. It's a foundation you build first, then a few branches you can pick up in any order. Here's the path the quests lead you down.[7]
Tier 1: The Entro foundation
Everything starts with the quest "Growing Entro Crystals" quest, which asks for Entro Seed, Entro Crystal and Extended Machine Frame. It unlocks after an earlier quest in the same chapter.[7]
The pack changed how Entro Crystal is made. It tweaked the reaction recipe and added its own Crystal Assembler recipe. This is the one to follow:[11]
Crystal Assembler (extendedae)
4× Fluix Crystal
100× Water
- 4× any entro dust
Recipe id: extendedae:assembler/entro_crystal_transformation
Entro Infused Ingot is the other key material, and the pack changed its reaction recipe too. The Extended Machine Frame needs it, and so do the Assembler Matrix walls and glass.[11]

Tier 2: Crystal Assembler and Concurrent Processor
The quest a quest in "Storage" asks for the Crystal Assembler and the Concurrent Processor. You need both the Entro quest above and another earlier quest done first.[7]
Crafting Shaped

This is the real gate for the mod. Most of the advanced Extended AE machines are crafted inside the Crystal Assembler. The pack changed the Concurrent Processor recipe, so don't rely on what you remember from the base mod:[11]
Crystal Assembler (extendedae)
4× Printed Silicon
4× Printed Concurrent Circuit
- 4× any redstone dust

Once you have Concurrent Processors, they're a component in the extended drive, interface, IO port, molecular assembler, charger and Assembler Matrix speed core recipes.[11]
Branch: Extended storage buses
The quest a quest in "Storage" asks for a normal storage bus plus ME Tag Storage Bus, ME Mod Storage Bus and ME Precise Storage Bus. This one only needs an earlier quest, not the Crystal Assembler quest. Here are the three recipes:[7]

Branch: The Assembler Matrix
The matrix is the big automation goal. It starts with "The Assembler Matrix Structure" quest for the Assembler Matrix Wall. Four quests then follow from it: "Assembler Matrix Frame" quest for the frame, "Assembler Matrix Craft Core" quest for the craft core, "Assembler Matrix Pattern Core" quest for the pattern core and "Assembler Matrix Speed Core" quest for the speed core.[7]
The final quest, "Max Size Assembler Matrix" quest, wants one of each part. That means a wall or glass, a frame, a pattern core, a craft core and a speed core. The pack changed the frame recipe:[7][11]
Crafting Shaped
| any quartz gem | any lapi gems | any quartz gem |
| any lapi gems | any lapi gems | |
| any quartz gem | any lapi gems | any quartz gem |
Recipe id: extendedae:assembler_matrix_frame
The three cores are Crystal Assembler recipes. The craft core needs an Extended Molecular Assembler, and the speed core needs a Concurrent Processor.[9][11]
- The matrix is a rectangular prism with edges between 3 and 7 blocks. Frames form the edges, walls or glass form the faces, and cores fill the interior.[9]
- It must contain at least one pattern core and one craft core, and it can't be hollow.[9]
- Each pattern core gives 36 pattern slots, and each craft core runs 8 crafting jobs at once.[9]
- Five speed cores give full speed. Adding more won't speed it up further.[9]
Upgrading existing devices
Once you have extended devices available, you can upgrade your existing network instead of rebuilding it. Sneak and right-click a normal device with the matching upgrade item. It turns into the extended version and keeps its settings and inventories.[43]
The pack changed the recipes for the drive, interface, pattern provider, pattern terminal and import/export bus upgrades. Check the recipe before you plan around them:[11]

How does Extended AE work with other mods?
7 parts
Extended AE is an add-on for Applied Energistics 2, so its biggest connection is with AE2 itself. Most extended devices are too complex for a crafting table, so you craft them in the Crystal Assembler. Beyond AE2, the pack ties Extended AE into a few other mods through its own recipe changes and machines. Here is where those links show up.[1][6][11]
AE2 is the foundation
Many Extended AE devices are built on top of an AE2 machine, such as the ME Extended Drive, ME Extended IO Port, Extended Charger, Extended Molecular Assembler and the extended import and export buses. AE2 cards, cores and processors turn up in most of the other recipes too, so a working AE2 network comes first.[11]

The Concurrent Processor
The Concurrent Processor is used in multithreaded machines so they can handle several tasks at once. In this pack the Crystal Assembler recipe for it is changed from the mod's version. The pack also adds a machine recipe that uses the Concurrent Processor, Printed Silicon and the Printed Concurrent Circuit.[8][11]

Advanced AE
Several items from the Advanced AE add-on depend on Extended AE parts, and the pack changed all of these recipes. The Advanced Extended Pattern Provider builds on the ME Extended Pattern Provider. The Quantum Crafting Unit, Quantum Computer Accelerator, Quantum Computer Multi-Threader and Advanced Pattern Provider Capacity Upgrade are in the same group. The recipes below show the exact in-pack versions.[11]

Advanced AE also has its own reaction recipe for Entro Crystal, and the pack changed it. The pack additionally adds a Crystal Assembler recipe for the same item, while the mod's in-world fluix transformation recipe is still there.[6][11]
Crystal Assembler (extendedae)

Silicon from FTB Materials and Mekanism
The pack changed several Extended AE routes to Silicon Gem, including the ones starting from Quartz Blend and from the Block of Silicon. The Mekanism enriching route and the block route are both shown below.[11]
Wireless terminals
The pack changed the combine recipes for the Wireless Extended Pattern Access Terminal. There is one each for the Wireless Pattern Access Terminal, the Wireless Crafting Terminal and the Wireless Pattern Encoding Terminal, and all three are shown below. The recipe dump doesn't show their outputs.[11]

Pack machines that use Extended AE items
The pack adds two custom machine recipes that use Extended AE items. One centres on the Reaction Chamber and the other on the Entro Crystal. Both are shown below. The dump doesn't list the outputs of either one.[11]

- Mekanism's Ultimate Control Circuit appears in the Reaction Chamber machine recipe too.[11]
- The Time Crystal and Refined T3 Fluid Source appear in the Entro Crystal machine recipe.[11]
- The Fortron Fluid and Fluxite appear in that same Entro Crystal machine recipe.[11]
Quests that mix both mods
The storage chapter has one quest, a quest in "Storage", that asks for AE2's ME Storage Bus alongside the extended tag, mod and precise storage buses. Another path starts at "Growing Entro Crystals" quest (Entro Seed, Entro Crystal and Extended Machine Frame) and leads to a quest in "Storage" (Crystal Assembler and Concurrent Processor).[7]
The Assembler Matrix has its own quest chain. It starts at "The Assembler Matrix Structure" quest with the Assembler Matrix Wall and goes through the core quests to "Max Size Assembler Matrix" quest, which asks for the full set of matrix parts.[7]
Which FTB StoneBlock 4 quests use Extended AE?
3 parts
In this pack, Extended AE shows up in one quest chapter, the logistics storage chapter. The quests there have no titles in the pack files, so the refs below are the quest IDs. Each of them asks you to submit items, and they fall into a few small branches.[7]
Entro and crafting branch
- Quest "Growing Entro Crystals" quest asks for Entro Seed, Entro Crystal and Extended Machine Frame. It unlocks after an earlier quest in the chapter that does not use this mod's items.[7]
- Quest a quest in "Storage" asks for Crystal Assembler and Concurrent Processor. It needs "Growing Entro Crystals" quest plus another earlier quest in the chapter.[7]
Storage buses
Quest a quest in "Storage" asks for the standard AE2 storage bus along with three Extended AE variants: ME Tag Storage Bus, ME Mod Storage Bus and ME Precise Storage Bus. It shares an earlier prerequisite with the crystal assembler quest above, and it does not depend on the Entro quest.[7]
Assembler Matrix branch
This is the biggest group. It starts with quest "The Assembler Matrix Structure" quest, which asks for Assembler Matrix Wall and unlocks after an earlier quest in the chapter. Several quests then open up directly after it, and most ask for a single part:[7]
- "Assembler Matrix Craft Core" quest: Assembler Matrix Craft Core[7]
- "Assembler Matrix Frame" quest: Assembler Matrix Frame[7]
- "Assembler Matrix Pattern Core" quest: Assembler Matrix Pattern Core[7]
- "Assembler Matrix Speed Core" quest: Assembler Matrix Speed Core[7]
Quest "Max Size Assembler Matrix" quest is the full matrix check. It also unlocks right after the wall quest. It asks for either Assembler Matrix Wall or Assembler Matrix Glass, plus a frame, a pattern core, a craft core and a speed core. The quest data lists only the wall quest as its prerequisite, so the single-part quests are not required first.[7]
Which Extended AE config options matter?
3 parts
Extended AE keeps its settings in one file, config/extendedae-common.toml. Every setting in this pack that lists a mod default is sitting exactly at that default, so the pack didn't change any of those values.[18]
Device settings
- device.assembler_matrix_max_size is 6, the same as the mod default. The allowed range is 3 to 16, so you can raise it if you want a bigger Assembler Matrix.[18]
- device.extended_io_bus_multiplier is 8, the mod default. This is the speed multiplier for the ME Extend Import/Export Bus, and it can go from 2 to 128.[18]
- device.oversize_interface_multiplier is 16, the mod default. It sets the size multiplier of the oversize interface, with a range of 2 to 4,096.[18]
- device.custom_oversize_interface_multiplier sets per-key-type multipliers for the oversize interface. The pack uses appbot:mana at 2 and appflux:flux at 4.[18]
- device.wireless_connector_max_range is 1,000, the mod default. It is the max range between two wireless connectors. device.wireless_connector_power_multiplier is 1, also the mod default, and scales the power wireless connectors use.[18]
- device.enable_crystal_assembler_inscribe_processors is true, so the Crystal Assembler is allowed to do processor inscriber recipes.[18]
Item settings
- item.infinity_cell_energy_cost is 8 AE/t, the mod default. This is the idle energy cost of an ME Infinity Cell.[18]
- item.pattern_modifier_multipliers is [2,3,5,7]. These are the pattern modifier multipliers.[18]
- item.me_packing_tape_whitelist decides which AE devices and parts the ME Packing Tape can pack. In this pack that covers ME Extended Interface, ME Extended Pattern Provider, ME Extended Drive, ME Oversize Interface, their part versions, and the AE2 ME Interface, ME Pattern Provider and ME Drive along with their cable versions.[18]
Client and debug
client.disable_inscriber_item_render is false, so the Extended Inscriber's item render stays on. The option only works client-side, so it only affects your own game. misc.debug_mode is false, so debug logging stays off.[18]
What changed in Extended AE between versions?
4 parts
FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 ships Extended AE 1.21-2.2.36-neoforge, and the mod has been in the pack since 1.0.0 or earlier. The pack changelogs have no entries for this mod, so there is nothing pack-specific to report here.[2]
The mod's own changelogs I have cover releases 2.2.26 to 2.2.29, which are older than the version in the pack. Changelogs for the releases after 2.2.29, up to the 2.2.36 you actually have, are not available to me, so I can't say what they changed.[2][47][48][49][50]
2.2.29
- The Tag Bus now accepts an item or fluid ID.[47]
- The Tag Bus only saves its filter when you close the GUI, and its GUI key input was fixed.[47]
- The cell LED display in the Extended Drive was fixed.[47]
- The lag when opening the Extended Pattern Terminal was fixed.[47]
2.2.28
- The ME Precise Output Bus can now be accelerated.[48]
- The Pattern Modifier can now remove the target ingredient from a pattern.[48]
- The GUI got a better search match rule, and localization files were updated.[48]
2.2.27
- Added AppliedE support.[49]
- Fixed a crash with the ME Smart Annihilation Plane.[49]
- Localization files were updated.[49]
2.2.26
- Added the Wireless Connector Upgrade.[50]
- Added shift-click support for the Extended Pattern Access Terminal.[50]
- The Wireless Hub GUI tooltip now shows channel usage.[50]
- Localization files were updated.[50]
