What is Extended AE?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 11 0.8.0-beta guide

Extended AE is an add-on for Applied Energistics 2 that streamlines storage and crafting workflows. If you already run an ME network and want bigger autocrafting setups with fewer blocks and fewer channels, this is the mod for you. This pack ships version 26.1-1.0.4 for NeoForge.[1][2]

What it adds

  • A 36-slot Pattern Provider and Interface, so one block can hold or export huge recipe sets.[1]
  • The Assembler Matrix, a multiblock crafter with edge lengths between 3 and 7. Each Pattern Core gives 36 pattern slots, and each Craft Core can run eight crafting jobs at once.[3]
  • An Extended Molecular Assembler with x8 parallel crafting, plus x8 faster Import and Export Buses.[1]
  • The Circuit Slicer, which slices material blocks straight into processor prints and can be up to nine times faster than an Inscriber in most cases.[4]
  • The ME Canner, which fills fluids by default and can also empty containers. Filling other resources needs add-ons such as Applied Flux, Applied Mekanistics or Applied Botanics Addon.[1][5]
  • The ME Active Formation Plane, which can actively place blocks or drop items without a subnet.[6]
  • The Config Modifier, a tool for editing configuration inventories in bulk.[7]

The Entro system

Most Extended AE items and machines are built around Entro Crystal. You harvest it from an Entro Cluster grown on Budding Entroized Fluix.[8][9]

Most of the devices are too complex for a crafting table, so you will need a Crystal Assembler to craft them. It can also do certain in-world transformation recipes, such as Fluix transformation.[10]

Watch out: Extended AE doesn't support JEI since 1.21. Install FTB JEI Extra if you want to see its recipes in JEI.[1]

Unverified The sources I was given don't show where Extended AE sits in this pack's progression, so I can't say when you should expect to reach it.

How do you get started with Extended AE?

5 parts

Extended AE is an add-on for Applied Energistics 2 that streamlines storage and crafting. Its main crafting ingredient is a new material, so your first steps are all about getting that material flowing. Here is the order I would go in.[1][11]

Step one: grow Entro Crystals

Entro Crystal is the main crafting ingredient for most Extended AE items and machines. You get it by right-clicking a Fluix Block with an Entro Seed, which turns the block into Budding Entroized Fluix. Then you harvest the Entro Cluster that grows on it.[11][12][13]

This craft gives you 2 Entro Seeds.

Watch out: Budding Entroized Fluix always degrades, and it will eventually turn into a different block. Plan to keep re-seeding and repairing.[15]

The Crystal Fixer helps here. In this pack's recipes it steps Budding Hardly, Half and Mostly Entroized Fluix up one grade at a time until it reaches Fully.[14]

There are other routes to crystals too. The pack adds a Hephaestus Forge casting table recipe that turns Molten Entro into an Entro Crystal, and the recipe list also has a Productive Bees centrifuge recipe and an AdvancedAE reaction recipe for it.[14]

Added by the pack: it needs 90 Molten Entro per crystal.

Step two: build the Crystal Assembler

Most Extended AE devices are too complex for a crafting table, so you need the Crystal Assembler to make them. It can also do certain in-world transformation recipes, such as Fluix transformation.[16]

In this pack, device.enable_crystal_assembler_inscribe_processors is set to true, so the Crystal Assembler is also allowed to run processor inscriber recipes.[17]

Step three: Entro Ingots and a machine frame

The description of Entro Infused Ingot says a crystal is too brittle for a machine frame, but fusing it with a gold ingot fixes that. The ingot is used for several Extended AE items. The Crystal Assembler can make it, and one craft gives you 4.[14][18]

The Extended Machine Frame sits in the Extended Foundation part of the in-game guide.

      Step four: faster processors

The Circuit Slicer slices material blocks straight into processor prints, and in most cases it is up to nine times faster than an Inscriber. The Concurrent Processor is what multithreaded machines use to handle several tasks at once.[20][21]

        Step five: your first devices

Once crystals and ingots are coming in, two upgrades are worth building first. The ME Extended Pattern Provider has a larger pattern inventory than a standard Pattern Provider. The ME Extended Drive holds 20 storage cells.[22][23]

Tip: The pack changed the recipes for Drive Upgrade, Interface Upgrade, Pattern Provider Upgrade, Import/Export Bus Upgrade, Pattern Access Terminal Upgrade and Wireless Connector Upgrade. Check the in-pack recipe for each one instead of assuming the mod default.[14]

          How does Extended AE work?

          8 parts

Extended AE brings some classic AE features to modern versions of Applied Energistics 2. This section covers how its machines, multiblock, buses and wireless links actually behave in this pack, plus the places where the pack's config sets the numbers.[24]

          Crafting the machines: Crystal Assembler

Most ExtendedAE devices are too complex for a crafting table, so you build them in the Crystal Assembler. It can also perform certain in-world transformation recipes, such as Fluix transformation. Its screen face cannot connect to the network. Most block-form machines also need an Extended Machine Frame.[16][19]

          Recipe id: extendedae:crystal_assembler

The Crystal Assembler itself is a normal crafting table recipe in this pack.

In this pack the Crystal Assembler is also allowed to do the processor inscriber recipes, because device.enable_crystal_assembler_inscribe_processors is set to true.[17]

If you want faster circuits, the Circuit Slicer (extendedae:circuit_cutter) slices material blocks straight into processor prints, up to nine times faster than an Inscriber in most cases. Glass faces without ports cannot connect to the network.[20]

          The Assembler Matrix

The Assembler Matrix is a multiblock that combines a pattern provider with molecular assemblers. It can run many crafting jobs at the same time and saves network channels.[25]

          • Shape: a rectangular prism that must be completely filled and can't be hollow. The in-game guide gives edge lengths between 3 and 7, and the pack's config sets the maximum size to 6 (the mod default).[17][25]
          • Edges: Assembler Matrix Frame blocks.[25]
          • Faces: Assembler Matrix Wall or Assembler Matrix Glass.[25]
          • Interior: Pattern, Craft or Speed Cores. You need at least one Pattern Core and one Craft Core.[25]
          • Formed and powered: the lines on the frames turn blue. Right-click it to open the GUI, where you can insert or search for patterns and see how many jobs are running.[25]

                Bigger, faster network parts

The ME Oversize Interface has the same number of slots as a normal interface, but each slot holds 16 times as many items by default, which is 1024 (64 x 16) per slot. This pack keeps 16 in device.oversize_interface_multiplier. It also sets per-type multipliers in device.custom_oversize_interface_multiplier: 2 for mana and 4 for flux from Applied Flux.[17][32]

The Infinity Water Cell and Infinity Cobblestone Cell have a capacity of 2.1 billion units and let you insert or extract unlimited water or cobblestone. In this pack their idle energy cost is 8 AE/t, from item.infinity_cell_energy_cost.[17][33]

The ME Wireless Connector links two networks like a cable, but with limited range and no cross-dimension links. It only does one-to-one connections. Link two connectors by clicking each with the ME Wireless Setup Kit, and sneak-click to clear the tool's settings. Connectors can be colored and only connect to cables and connectors of the same color.[34]

Power cost rises with distance, and the curve is not linear, so very distant links get expensive. Each card installed for saving power cuts the cost by 10%. The pack's maximum range is 1000 and its power multiplier is 1, both the mod defaults, from device.wireless_connector_max_range and device.wireless_connector_power_multiplier.[17][34]

For many-to-many links use the ME Wireless Hub. It has 8 ports and picks a free one automatically when you link it. When all ports are used, click the 'X' button to disconnect one before adding another.[35]

                ME Canner

The ME Canner (extendedae:caner) fills containers. The first slot holds the filling resource and the second holds the container. Each operation costs 80 AE. By default it only fills fluids, and you need the matching add-on, such as Applied Flux, for other resources. In Empty mode it drains containers instead, and for that you swap the inputs and outputs in the pattern.[36]

For automation, only the top and bottom sides accept energy and connect to the network. The Canner ejects the filled item automatically when a pattern provider hands it the ingredients. The pattern must contain only the filling resource and the container.[36]

                Smarter automation

                • ME Threshold Export Bus: exports only while the network stores more than (or, in BELOW mode, less than) a set amount. With a copper threshold of 128 it exports above 128, or below 128 in BELOW mode.[37]
                • ME Threshold Level Emitter: works like a latch with a lower and an upper threshold. With lower 100 and upper 150, it turns on above 150, stays on while the amount drops, and turns off below 100.[38]
                • ME Precise Export Bus: exports exact quantities and only if the container can accept the whole amount. A setting of 3 cobblestone stops when the network holds fewer than 3, or when the chest has room for only 2.[39]
                • ME Precise Storage Bus: inserts items only up to a configured limit.[40]
                • ME Tag Storage Bus: filters by item or fluid tags with logic operators. For example, c:ingots/* | c:gems/* accepts all ingots and gems.[41]
                • ME Mod Storage Bus and ME Mod Export Bus: filter by mod name or ID, and you separate several mod IDs with commas.[42][43]

The ME Active Formation Plane places blocks or drops items, and the ME Smart Annihilation Plane breaks blocks or absorbs items based on its configuration inventory. Neither needs a subnet.[44][45]

                  Another Crystal Assembler recipe.

Bulk editing and moving your setup

The Config Modifier edits configuration inventories in bulk, such as an interface's. Its modes are Add, Subtract, Multiply, Divide, Maximize, Minimize, Set and Clear, with an amount X used by most of them. Use it on a device in the world.[46]

The Pattern Modifier edits patterns in bulk. Multiply mode scales processing pattern amounts, and this pack's multipliers are 2, 3, 5 and 7 from item.pattern_modifier_multipliers. Division only works when the amount divides evenly, and multiplication is capped at 999999. It also has Replace, Property and Clone modes.[17][47]

ME Packing Tape packs an ME device into a package when you sneak-right-click it, keeping all settings and contents. Right-click the package as if placing the device to restore it. The pack's whitelist in item.me_packing_tape_whitelist also includes the Oversize Interface and its part, which the guide's default list does not show.[17][48]

To swap standard devices for extended ones without breaking them, sneak-right-click the device with the matching upgrade. Settings and inventory carry over. The pack changed the recipes for the Drive Upgrade and the Import/Export Bus Upgrade.[14][49]

                  Entro crystal growth

Entro Crystals are the main crafting ingredient for most ExtendedAE items and machines. They grow from Budding Entroized Fluix, similar to Certus Quartz. Right-click a Fluix Block in the world with an Entro Seed to turn it into budding Entroized Fluix. Doing it by machine gives a lower grade than doing it by hand.[11][12][13]

Unlike Certus, degradation is unavoidable, and the budding block eventually turns into another block. The Crystal Fixer repairs it. It needs power and a crystal that you insert by right-clicking. In this pack the recipes step Hardly to Half, Half to Mostly, and Mostly to Fully Entroized.[14][15][50]

Breaking an Entro Bud before it is fully grown gives an Entro Shard, and eight shards craft back into an Entro Cluster. This pack also adds a Hephaestus casting recipe that makes an Entro Crystal from 90 units of molten entro, via Hephaestus Forge. There is a Productive Bees centrifuge recipe for it too.[14][51]

How do you progress through Extended AE?

                  6 parts

Extended AE builds on Applied Energistics 2, so you get here after you have a basic ME network running. In this pack the quest sources do not give this mod a progression chapter, so this page follows the recipes instead: what you craft first, what that unlocks, and which recipes the pack changed.[14]

                  Tier 1: the Crystal Assembler

Almost everything in Extended AE is built in one machine, the Crystal Assembler. The machine itself is an ordinary shaped crafting recipe, so you can make it at a crafting table.[14][52]

Make this first. Most later devices use its own recipe type.

                  Tier 2: the Concurrent Processor

The Concurrent Processor is the foundation component for the multithreaded machines. You can make it in the Crystal Assembler, which gives 4 per craft, or through an AE2 inscriber recipe that uses the Printed Concurrent Circuit.[14][21]

                  Crystal Assembler (extendedae)

                    Recipe id: extendedae:assembler/concurrent_processor

The Crystal Assembler route makes 4 processors at once.

The Circuit Slicer (Circuit Slicer) is a faster way to get prints. It slices material blocks into processor prints, and the guide says it can be up to nine times faster than an Inscriber in most cases. Its Concurrent Processor recipe gives 4 prints per craft.[14][20]

                      Entro materials

Entro Crystal has several sources in this pack. Besides the recipe from AdvancedAE and the productive bees centrifuge recipe for Productive Bees, the pack adds two of its own: a Hephaestus casting table recipe that takes 90 Molten Entro, and a Mystical Agriculture essence recipe that makes 4 crystals.[14]

Entro Infused Ingot and Entro Block both have recipes in the pack. Unpacking an Entro Block gives back 4 Entro Crystal.[14]

                      Crystal Assembler (extendedae)

The Crystal Assembler makes 4 ingots per craft.

The budding blocks climb in four steps: hardly, half, mostly, then fully entroized. The Crystal Fixer moves a block up one step at a time. The Crystal Assembler can also make the Mostly Entroized block directly. All four budding blocks have loot tables that drop Entro Dust.[14][53][54][55][56][57]

Tier 3: upgrading your existing network

Instead of rebuilding, you can upgrade AE2 devices in place. Sneak-right-click a device with the matching upgrade item and it becomes its extended version, keeping all settings and contents. There are six upgrades: Pattern Provider Upgrade, Interface Upgrade, Import/Export Bus Upgrade, Pattern Access Terminal Upgrade, Drive Upgrade and Wireless Connector Upgrade.[49]

Watch out: The pack changed the recipe for all six upgrade items, including both Import/Export Bus Upgrade recipes. Do not rely on the mod's default recipes here. Check the recipe in game or below.[14]

Finally, the Config Modifier is a handy tool for bulk-editing configuration slots, such as an interface's. It can maximize, minimize, set or clear the configured amounts.[14][46]

How does Extended AE work with other mods?

                                        2 parts

Extended AE is built as an add-on for Applied Energistics 2, so most of what it does plugs straight into an Applied Energistics 2 network. The pack's recipes and quests show only one place where it is wired into a different mod, and that is Hephaestus Forge.[1][14]

                                        Entro Crystal from Hephaestus Forge

The pack adds its own way to get Entro Crystal. You cast it at a casting table from Hephaestus Forge, using ftb:molten_entro. This recipe comes from the pack, not from Extended AE itself.[14]

                                        Working with Applied Energistics 2

The rest of the connection is to Applied Energistics 2 itself. The Circuit Slicer cuts material blocks straight into processor prints, which makes it a faster alternative to the AE2 Inscriber. The Crystal Assembler can also do in-world transformation recipes such as Fluix transformation.[16][20]

The Assembler Matrix is a multiblock that runs many crafting jobs at once and saves network channels. It takes patterns from its Pattern Cores, so it slots into an AE2 autocrafting setup.[25]

Which Extended AE config options matter?

                                        3 parts

Same as in the FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 guide

Extended AE keeps its settings in one file, config/extendedae-common.toml. Every setting in this pack that lists a mod default is sitting exactly at that default, so the pack didn't change any of those values.[58]

                                        Device settings

                                        Item settings

                                        Client and debug

client.disable_inscriber_item_render is false, so the Extended Inscriber's item render stays on. The option only works client-side, so it only affects your own game. misc.debug_mode is false, so debug logging stays off.[58]
