What is Supplementaries?

1 part

Supplementaries is a Vanilla+ mod that fills in gaps vanilla leaves open. It is highly configurable, and its content is meant to be functional, good-looking and a natural fit next to what the game already has.[1]

It covers a lot of ground: jars, signposts, faucets, weather vanes, spring launchers, sconces, planters and lights. Some of it is pure decoration and some of it is automation, so it suits both builders and tinkerers.[1]

In this pack you get Supplementaries 1.21.1-3.9.6 for NeoForge. The mod needs Moonlight Library to run.[1][2]

Where it fits in the pack

You meet the mod right at the start. The quest "Firesticks" quest in the "the_beginning" chapter has three tasks: hand in Firestick, hand in Ash, and complete an observation task. It unlocks after the quest 3BF066E5C333F217.[3]

That is the only quest connection the sources show. Beyond this early quest, I haven't confirmed where else the mod fits into the pack's progression.[3]

Unverified Whether this pack changes any Supplementaries recipes, configs or mechanics from the mod's defaults is not confirmed by the sources available for this section.

How do you get started with Supplementaries?

3 parts

Supplementaries adds jars, signposts, faucets, weather vanes, spring launchers, sconces, planters, lights, decoration and automation. You don't need all of it on day one, though. The pack's quest book nudges you toward one material first: ash.[1][3]

Step 1: get some Ash

The first Supplementaries item the pack asks for is Ash. Quest "Firesticks" quest in the "the_beginning" chapter has three tasks: hand in an Firestick, hand in Ash, and complete an observation task. It unlocks after another quest in the same chapter.[3]

Ash comes from fire. Burnable blocks have a chance to leave ash layers behind when they burn, and a higher chance setting means more ash. Burn a few things safely and you'll see it pile up.[4]

Step 2: turn it into Ash Bricks

Once you have ash, the next thing to make is Ash Bricks, a handy building block. The pack changes this recipe, so use the one below rather than the mod default.[5]

Ash Bricks also give you Ash Brick Slab, Ash Brick Stairs and Ash Brick Wall. Here is the slab as an example.[5]

Step 3: two handy early tools

The Altimeter is a depth meter, and clicking it performs a configurable action that displays your current depth. It's useful once you start digging.[4][5]

The Bellows pushes air in pulses. The stronger the redstone signal, the faster it pulses and the further it pushes. Per the mod's own notes, it only keeps the two fire blocks closest to it alive.[4][5]

How does Supplementaries work?

7 parts

This section sticks to what the sources explain: how a handful of functional blocks behave and which settings the pack changed. Here is what I can confirm.[4][6]

Bellows and redstone

The Bellows pushes air in pulses, and redstone power controls how fast it pulses. The mod's own description gives the rule: air is pushed while sin(2PI*ticks/period) is below 0, and the period is the base period minus (redstone power - 1) times the power scaling. The base period is the period at a power of 1. A stronger signal therefore shortens the period and makes the bellows pulse faster.[4][5]

The push also gets stronger with speed. Velocity scales with how close an entity is to the bellows within its range, and the base velocity is divided by the period. In short, a faster-pulsing bellows pushes further.[4]

The pack changes this recipe from the mod's own.

Cages and jars

Cages and jars can capture mobs, and the pack keeps this fairly strict. functional.cage.allow_all_mobs is false, and the config itself says that option is not meant for survival. functional.cage.cage_allow_all_babies and functional.cage.cage_auto_detect are also false, so small mobs are not automatically allowed by hitbox size.[6]

functional.cage.health_threshold is 100, which the config describes as accepting any health level. The mod also has options for making captured hostile mobs persistent and for requiring that tameable mobs be tamed first. The sources don't show the pack's values for those two.[4][6]

Jars can hold other things too. For example, you can put a boat in one.[5]

Bamboo spikes

In this pack functional.bamboo_spikes.only_allow_harmful_effects is true. That is the alternative mode where Bamboo Spikes accept only harmful effects and get infinite durability. functional.bamboo_spikes.player_loot is false, so mobs killed by spikes don't drop loot as if a player had killed them.[4][5][6]

Ash

Burning produces ash layers. In the pack, building.ash.ash_from_fire_chance is 1, and the config describes a higher number as a greater chance of burnable blocks leaving ash. Burning mobs also drop ash when they die, and rain washes ash layers away over time. Basalt ash is enabled, and its rarity can be tweaked with a datapack.[4][6]

Ash Brick crafts into Ash Bricks, which have slab, stair and wall variants. The pack changes all of these recipes.[5]

Awnings, boards and gates

  • Awnings: slanted awnings are enabled, with a bouncing angle of 69.44395478041653, and entities can fall through an awning while shifting.[6]
  • Blackboards: you can draw directly on a Blackboard with any dye, while the GUI still works only in black and white. The interaction mode is set to BOTH, and the other allowed values are GUI and MANUAL.[5][6]
  • Notice boards: they accept only maps and books, because allowing any item is off. The GUI is enabled.[6]
  • Iron gates: door-like behaviour is off, and two gates stacked on top of each other can open at the same time.[6]
  • Pedestals: an end crystal placed on a pedestal gives an enchanting power bonus equal to 3 bookshelves.[6]
  • Slidy blocks: speed is 0.125, which matches the mod default.[6]

Road signs and the red merchant

Watch out: Road signs are disabled in this pack, so they won't spawn in the world. Their search settings, such as a maximum search radius of 200 chunks, only matter if someone re-enables them.[6]
Watch out: The pack sets the red merchant spawn multiplier to 0, where the mod default is 1. The config says the merchant won't spawn at 0, so don't count on finding one here.[6]

Altimeter

The Altimeter can have a click action that displays your current depth, and it can use unique textures for each dimension. The pack changes its recipe.[4][5]

How do you progress through Supplementaries?

2 parts

The sources I have show no tier ladder for Supplementaries in this pack, and the quest book touches the mod only once. So there is no step-by-step Supplementaries questline to follow. Here is what the pack data does show.[3][5]

The quest tie-in

The one quest linked to this mod sits in the Beginning chapter ("Firesticks" quest). Its tasks are an item task for Firestick, an item task for Ash, and an observation task. It comes after another quest in the same chapter.[3]

Recipes are pack-specific

Every Supplementaries recipe shown in the pack's recipe dump is marked as changed by the pack. That covers the altimeter, ash bricks and their slab, stairs and wall variants, awnings, buntings, candle holders, the bubble blower and the blackstone blocks. Don't trust any recipe you remember from the standalone mod. Look at the in-pack versions, like these:[5]

How does Supplementaries work with other mods?

4 parts

The pack ties a few Supplementaries items into other mods. Flax and the Planter appear in recipes that use other mods' items, Ash is an ingredient in a Mystical Agriculture recipe, and Ash is also a task in an early quest.[3][5]

Growing Flax in an Immersive Engineering Cloche

In this pack you grow Flax in the Immersive Engineering cloche. The pack adds these recipes itself. Each one takes Flax Seeds from Silent Gear plus a soil, and the soil can come from several different mods.[5]

FlaxAdded by the pack

Cloche (immersiveengineering)

Recipe id: ftb:cloche/flax_from_dirt

The simplest version of the pack's cloche recipe uses plain dirt.

Besides Dirt, the pack adds cloche recipes for these soils:[5]

Planter with Farmer's Delight Rich Soil

The Planter has an integration recipe built around Farmer's Delight's Rich Soil. The pack changed this recipe, so don't rely on the mod's default version.[5]

Ash and Soulium Dust

Ash also feeds into Mystical Agriculture. A shapeless recipe added by the pack makes Soulium Dust from Compressed Dust, an Iron's Spellbooks Blood Vial and Ash.[5]

Ash in the quest book

Ash is one of the tasks in "Firesticks" quest, a quest in the Beginning chapter. It sits alongside a firestick item task and an observation task, and it comes after the quest 3BF066E5C333F217.[3]

Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Supplementaries?

1 part

In this pack, Supplementaries shows up in the quest book in just one place that I can confirm: the "the_beginning" chapter. It's an early-game chapter, so you'll bump into the mod right at the start of your run.[3]

The_beginning chapter

The quest is "Firesticks" quest, and it has no title in the quest file. It unlocks after you finish "Welcome to Minecraft" quest, so that one comes first.[3]

It has three tasks:[3]

Unverified The quest file doesn't say what the observation task is watching for, or how the pack expects you to get Ash. Check the in-game quest description for those details.

Which Supplementaries config options matter?

5 parts

Supplementaries is very configurable, and almost everything lives in one file. Most of the values shown for this pack match the mod's own defaults, so the list of marked changes is short.[1][6]

The value the pack changed

The only option marked as changed from the mod default in the part of the file shown here is general.red_merchant_spawn_multiplier. The pack sets it to 0, while the mod default is 1.[6]

Watch out: At 0 the Red Merchant won't spawn at all. If you're waiting for him in this pack, you'll be waiting forever.[6]

Features the pack turns off

These options are off in the pack. The file doesn't show a mod default for them, so I can't say whether they were changed. They are the values you'll actually see in play.[6]

Ropes and pulleys

Ropes are on (functional.rope.enabled is true). The file notes that turning ropes off also disables pulleys, bunting and rope arrows. Pulleys are enabled, and continuous retraction and cooperative pulleys are both on. redstone.pulley_block.pull_limit is 8 and redstone.pulley_block.pull_interval is 4, both at the mod defaults.[6]

Combat and tools

Maps and safes

tweaks.map_tweaks.death_marker is set to WITH_COMPASS, so you only get a death marker on your map if you carry a recovery compass or similar. Safes still use keys, since functional.safe.simple_safes is false.[6]

What changed in Supplementaries between versions?

3 parts

FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 ships Supplementaries 1.21.1-3.9.6, and the mod has been in the pack since 1.0.1 or earlier. Here are the notable changes from the mod's own changelogs, oldest first.[2]

Unverified No pack changelog entries for Supplementaries were available, so any pack-specific changes to this mod are unverified.

Versions 3.3.0 to 3.3.5 (1.21)

  • 3.3.0 added Cannon Boat AI for pillagers.[7]
  • 3.3.3 made mob head shaders data driven, fixed Alex's Caves nukes compat, and fixed soap cleaning extended sticky pistons. It also added a config option to make cannon projectiles ignite on impact, like TNT.[8]
  • 3.3.4 fixed the slime overlay. You can now wash the wither out of a skeleton and damage slimes with soap.[9]
  • 3.3.5 improved the logic for cannons and presents shooting TNT and added a tag for modded TNTs. It also fixed sacks not saving data to the item correctly.[10]

Versions 3.5.17 to 3.5.34 (1.21)

  • 3.5.17 fixed a multishot slingshot consuming just 1 projectile. Rope arrows shot from multishot crossbows can now be shot more than 1, still consuming all projectiles.[11]
  • 3.5.34 fixed a fix for the cannon shooting backwards that had not been included in the previous release.[12]

Versions 3.6.4 to 3.9.6 (1.21.1)

  • 3.6.4 and 3.6.5 were small releases with minor and random fixes, and 3.6.7 fixed a loot table.[13][14][15]
  • 3.7.7 fixed the wind vane renderer.[16]
  • 3.8.4 improved the cannon visuals, for parity with Bedrock.[17]
  • 3.9.6, the version in this pack, lets plunderers spawn in raids when the raid spawns on water. They get boats that other pillagers can use, and their boat navigation is improved.[2][18]
