What is StevesCarts2?

Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.6 guide

This pack includes StevesCarts2 at version 1.2.18, using the file stevescarts-1.21-1.2.18-neoforge.jar. It has been in the pack since version 1.9 or earlier, so it is not a recent addition.[1]

Unverified The sources I have for this mod only cover its version and file name, so I can't confirm in-pack details such as its features, recipes, config values or any changes the pack makes to it.

How do you get started with StevesCarts2?

5 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Steve's Carts 2 is about building carts out of parts, so your first goal is the Cart Assembler and the components that feed the rest of the mod's crafting. The recipes below are the ones in this pack, and the pack has changed several of them from the mod's defaults.[2][3]

Start with the Cart Assembler

The Cart Assembler is the block to make first. The pack changed its recipe, so don't rely on what you remember from other versions. It uses a Component Simple Pcb, and that same part shows up again in many later recipes.[2]

Upgrade to the Advanced PCB

Next, turn your Simple PCB into an Component Advanced Pcb. The pack changed this recipe too, and it opens up the next tier of crafting, including the Module Toggler and the Component Blank Upgrade.[2]

The pane chain and the Cargo Manager

A lot of Steve's Carts parts are built from panes. Start with a Component Chest Pane, which uses the mod's own recipe. Then make an Component Iron Pane from it, which is a recipe the pack changed.[2]

The Component Large Iron Pane and the Component Huge Iron Pane are the next steps up from the iron pane. The Component Large Dynamic Pane is part of the same pane family, and the Cargo Manager is the payoff. Its recipe is the mod's own, shown below.[2]

Rails and the Liquid Manager

The Junction Rail is a cheap, unchanged mod recipe. The Liquid Manager is more involved: the pack changed its recipe, so check the block below and look for the Module Advanced Sctank before you start.[2]

How does StevesCarts2 work?

5 parts

The sources for this mod are thin on deep mechanics: no guidebook text, no config files, and only the mod's screen strings plus the pack's recipe data. So this section sticks to what those screens and recipes actually show about the assembler, the manager network and the redstone logic block.[3][4]

Cart Assembler

The Cart Assembler is where every Modular Cart starts. Its screen tells you to add a Cart Hull of your choice to the Hull Slot, and the buttons are labelled "Assemble cart" and "Modify cart". A progress readout shows how far along the build is.[3]

The assembler also reports its state: it says when it is idle and when it is ready to assemble. It refuses to work in a few cases: it is busy, there is already a cart in the Departure Bay, you have no hull, or the item in the hull slot is not a valid hull.[3]

The screen also shows labels for hull capacity, complexity cap, max engines and max addons. Those are the limits your design has to fit inside. The exact values per hull are not in the sources.[3]

Tip: If the assembler won't start, check the message on its screen first. Each of the error cases above has its own text, so it tells you whether the problem is the hull, a cart still in the Departure Bay, or a busy machine.[3]

Managers and the External Distributor

Item and fluid handling for carts goes through two manager blocks: the Cargo Manager for cargo and the Liquid Manager for liquids. The External Distributor links to them. If it has no manager attached, its screen says it is not connected to any Managers. The manager screens also distinguish a Top Manager and a Bot Manager.[3]

The distributor's settings are where most of the automation happens. You can change the side, the slot layout, the tank layout, the transfer direction (from the cart or to the cart) and the transfer size. You can also choose which part of the cart is affected and whether the cart turns back or continues along after a transfer.[3]

The cart parts you can target include all slots, storage slots, the engine, arrows, bridge material, buckets for the milker, cakes, explosives, fertilizer, firework, railers, saplings, seeds and torches.[3]

Slot and tank layouts can be set in a few ways, according to the setting descriptions. Everything can be shared by all sides, each side can have its own slots or tank, or each colour can have its own. Sides are named by colour: red, blue, green, yellow, orange and purple.[3]

Module Toggler

The Module Toggler is the mod's redstone logic block. Its screen has AND, OR, XOR and NOT operators and an OUTPUT. It reads redstone input from the top, bottom, north, south, east and west, and it has a unit for each of those directions too.[3]

Recipes the pack changed

The pack changes the crafting of the machines below, so follow these recipes rather than the mod's defaults.[4]

Galgadorian metal in the pack

Component Enhanced Galgadorian Metal is made by smelting. A separate pack script uses it as an input in a PneumaticCraft pressure chamber recipe for the dimensional memory fragment: 16 of it, at a pressure of 3.5.[4][5]

Smelting

Recipe id: stevescarts:component/component_enhanced_galgadorian_metal

Unverified What the Upgrade: Solar Panel and Upgrade: Thermal Engine blocks actually do, and any engine, power or fluid numbers set in this mod's config files, are not shown by the sources here: their drop data is too long to include and there are no config files for this mod in the pack.

How do you progress through StevesCarts2?

6 parts

Steve's Carts 2 climbs in layers: basic parts first, then circuit boards, then reinforced metal, and finally the Galgadorian metals. The pack's recipe list maps that climb, and several of the recipes along the way are marked as changed by the pack. I'll flag those as we go.[4]

Tier 1: the cart assembler and basic parts

Your first stop is the Cart Assembler, where carts get built. The pack changed its recipe, so check it here rather than trusting your memory of the mod's defaults.[4]

Tier 2: advanced circuitry

Next comes the Component Advanced Pcb, whose recipe the pack changed. Other parts build on it, including the Module Toggler (Module Toggler, also pack-changed), the Component Entity Scanner (pack-changed) and the Component Wood Cutting Core. The recipe blocks below show the exact in-pack versions.[4]

Logistics blocks

The management blocks sit alongside this tier. The recipe for the Liquid Manager is pack-changed and revolves around the Module Advanced Sctank. The Cargo Manager is built from the pane parts, and the Component Iron Pane recipe is pack-changed (one craft makes 8).[4]

Reinforced metal

Component Reinforced Metal opens the way to stronger gear such as the Component Hardened Saw Blade (pack-changed), the Component Blank Upgrade (pack-changed, and one craft makes 2) and the Module Advanced Thermal Engine. One Reinforced Metal Block block also unpacks into 9 of these components. The recipes for the metal and the thermal engine are below.[4]

Tier 4: Galgadorian metals

The top of the mod's own material ladder is Galgador. The chain runs from the Component Eye Of Galgador to the pack-changed Component Lump Of Galgador recipe (one craft makes 2), then on to Component Galgadorian Metal and Component Enhanced Galgadorian Metal, which comes from the Component Large Lump Of Galgador. The recipes are below.[4]

Galgadorian metal feeds the Component Galgadorian Saw Blade (pack-changed) and the Component Galgadorian Wheels, which also use reinforced metal. A Galgadorian Block block unpacks into 9 components, and the enhanced metal has its own Enhanced Galgadorian Block block.[4]

A cross-mod detour

The pack also changed the Netherite Wood Cutter. It is a smithing upgrade: you turn a Module Basic Wood Cutter into a Module Netherite Wood Cutter with a netherite upgrade template and a netherite ingot.[4]

How does StevesCarts2 work with other mods?

1 part

The one place StevesCarts2 connects to another mod in this pack is a recipe the pack added itself. It is the recipe for the Dimensional Memory Fragment, and it needs Component Enhanced Galgadorian Metal from this mod alongside items from several others.[4][5]

Dimensional Memory Fragment

The fragment is made in the PneumaticCraft pressure chamber, and the pack's own script adds the recipe. It needs 16 of the StevesCarts2 component. It also pulls in the Library of Alexandria, 4 Grains of Prescience, the Dimensional Crystal Matrix and 32 items from the shards tag. That makes it a recipe that crosses a lot of mod boundaries.[4][5]

Pressure Chamber (pneumaticcraft)

Recipe id: ftb:dimensional_memory_fragment

Crafted in a PneumaticCraft pressure chamber, using a recipe added by the pack.

The script sets the pressure chamber to a pressure of 3.5 for this recipe, so make sure your chamber reaches that level before you start.[5]

This is the only recipe link between StevesCarts2 and another mod in the sources here, so the Enhanced Galgadorian Metal component is the item to plan ahead for if you want the fragment.[4]
