What is IntegratedDynamics?

This pack includes Integrated Dynamics version 1.16.1, built for Minecraft 1.18.2, and it has been in the pack since this release or earlier. If you want to match your setup to the pack, that's the version to look for.[1]

Unverified The available sources don't describe what Integrated Dynamics does, who it's aimed at, or where it fits in this pack's progression, so those details are left out here. Check in-game or the mod's own documentation for how its features work in this version.

How do you get started with IntegratedDynamics?

6 parts

Almost everything in Integrated Dynamics runs on one resource: Menril. Your first job is to find a Menril tree. They are easiest to find in Meneglin biomes, and chopping one down gets you your first Menril Log.[2]

Step 1: Menril wood

Menril logs work like any other wood. Turn them into Menril Planks for building, and craft Menril Torches from Menril Berries if you pick some up. Save most of your logs, though, because they are what you process into the mod's crystal material.[2][3]

Step 2: The Drying Basin

Next, build a Drying Basin. The mod's progression has you process Menril Log into Menril Resin, then dry that resin to get Crystallized Menril Resin. The basin is the drying half of that chain, and crafting one counts as an advancement.[2][3]

Unverified The sources don't show which block turns Menril Logs into Menril Resin, or the exact output of the drying step. The Squeezer is the likely candidate, but check JEI in-game to confirm. This site does hold All the Mods - Gravitas's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

Step 3: Crystallized Menril

Once you have crystallized Menril, keep a stock of both Crystallized Menril Chunk and Block of Crystallized Menril. You can convert between the two in either direction, so nothing gets locked in. Chunks go into cables, the Labeller, Facades, the Materializer and more. Blocks are needed for the Logic Programmer and the Energy Battery.[3]

Step 4: Logic Cables and the Logic Programmer

Logic Cable is the backbone of every network, so craft a good batch. One of the early advancements asks you to build a logic network with at least 10 connected Logic Cables, which makes a nice first goal.[2][3]

Then make a Logic Programmer. This is where you define values on Variable Cards, for example a constant Integer. If you'd rather carry it around, you can craft it into a Portable Logic Programmer and back again.[2][3]

Step 5: Readers, writers and displays

Readers and writers are built from transformers. Readers such as the Part Block Reader need an Input Variable Transformer. Writers and the Part Display Panel need an Output Variable Transformer. The Display Panel also needs a Part Static Light Panel.[3]

Tip: Want a first project? Follow the mod's advancements. Craft a Redstone Reader, make a variable card for a redstone Integer value, then place that card in a Display Panel to watch the value live.[2]

Step 6: Power, when you're ready

The Energy Battery is your gateway to powered machines. It goes into the Generator, the Mechanical Drying Basin and the Mechanical Squeezer. Build one once you have spare Crystallized Menril blocks and want to automate your Menril processing.[3]

How does IntegratedDynamics work?

6 parts

Integrated Dynamics is built around logic networks. You join parts together with Logic Cable, and the mod even has an advancement for building a logic network with at least 10 connected Logic Cables. Once parts share a network, readers pull values out of the world, variables carry those values around, and writers or displays act on them.[2]

Menril: where it all starts

Your first goal is Menril. You chop down a Menril tree, which is easiest to find in Meneglin biomes. You then process the Menril Log into Menril Resin and dry it to get Crystallized Menril Resin. The advancement for drying asks you to craft a Drying Basin.[2]

In this pack, biome.meneglin.spawnWeight is set to 5. That is the Meneglin biome's spawn weight in the overworld, and a value of 0 would disable it completely. So you can find Meneglin biomes naturally here.[4]

Crystallized Menril can be packed into blocks and broken back down into chunks. There is also a matching set of decorative bricks, slabs and stairs. Crystallized Chorus follows the same block and chunk pattern.[3]

Readers and aspects

Readers point at a target and expose aspects, which are the individual values you can read from that target. Each reader type covers a different kind of target. Here's what the aspects let you check:[2]

  • Redstone Reader: whether the redstone level is at its maximum, at zero or above zero. It also has a clock aspect that pulses with a configurable length and interval.[2]
  • Inventory Reader: whether a target has an inventory, whether all slots are empty or full, and a fill ratio (non-empty slots divided by total slots).[2]
  • Machine Reader: whether a machine is working, has work to process or could start working. It can also read the list of recipes from a machine like the Crafting Table, or look up the recipe of a Chest.[2]
  • Fluid aspects: whether a target has a tank, whether that tank is empty or full, the fluid inside, and a fill ratio for the active tank.[2]
  • Energy aspects: whether a target handles FE, whether FE can actually be inserted or extracted, whether its buffer is empty or full, and its FE fill ratio.[2]
  • World and entity aspects: day or night, clear, rain or thunder, the TPS of the world or the average across all worlds, and whether a space holds a player, mob, animal, item or entity.[2]
  • Block Reader: whether a space has a block. It can also read NBT from blocks such as a Lectern, which you can then dig into with an NBT Path expression.[2]

Writers: making things happen

Writers push values back into the world. A classic first build uses a Redstone Writer to output the maximum redstone level that a Redstone Reader picked up.[2]

A more advanced build is a smart door. An Entity Reader checks an entity's name with the equals operator, and a Redstone Writer pointing straight at the door opens it when you walk past. Redstone Writers can also simulate a Redstone Torch instead of regular Redstone Dust for strong power.[2]

Variables, logic and displays

Values travel through the network on Variable Cards. You can capture a reader aspect onto a card, such as a redstone Integer value, or define constants in the Logic Programmer's GUI. The Logic Programmer also lets you build static lists, filter lists, invoke operators like addition dynamically and even create recipes visually.[2]

To see results, place a Variable Card in a Display Panel. Want a fun test? Show a Creeper's HP, or check whether a Stone Pickaxe can break Obsidian. Other helper parts include the Proxy, the Materializer and the Variable Input and Output Transformers.[2]

Operators can recurse, and you can even build an infinite list. This pack caps recursion depth at 256 with core.general.operatorRecursionLimit, which prevents crashes from things like the omega operator.[2][4]

The Delayer keeps a history of values. In this pack, machine.delay.maxHistoryCapacity sets the longest history it can keep to 1,024.[4]

Energy

Networks have an energy system. In this pack, the Energy Battery has a default capacity of 1,000,000, and the maximum network energy transfer rate is 2,147,483,647. The Generator is crafted from an Energy Battery plus a furnace.[3][4]

GeneratorMod recipe

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: integrateddynamics:crafting/coal_generator

Each part has a base energy usage in this pack's config. Most readers and writers are set to 1. The Proxy and the Display Panel with a variable are set to 2, and the Variable Store to 4. The mono-directional connector is set to 32 and the omni-directional connector to 128. On top of that, this pack sets the network energy usage multiplier, general.general.energyConsumptionMultiplier, to 0.[4]

Unverified With the energy usage multiplier at 0, logic networks in this pack may not need any power at all. The sources don't state this outcome directly, so test it in your own world.

Performance and troubleshooting

The ingredient network observer checks network contents at a frequency between 5 and 40 ticks in this pack. It runs multithreaded on up to 4 threads. Cable shapes are determined dynamically, and the config notes you can disable machine.cable.dynamicShape if you run into FPS issues.[4]

Tip: If a network keeps crashing, temporarily enable core.general.safeMode. This stops networks from ticking and evaluating values. Corrupted networks are also automatically restored on the first tick in this pack, because core.general.recreateCorruptedNetworks is on.[4]
Watch out: In this pack, you don't get the mod's info book automatically on first spawn, and it doesn't hand out item rewards for completing its tutorials.[4]

How do you progress through IntegratedDynamics?

5 parts

Integrated Dynamics doesn't hand you tiers on a plate, so the best way to think about progression is to follow the recipe chain. Nearly everything you craft goes back to one material: the Crystallized Menril Chunk. Once you have a steady supply of those, the rest of the mod opens up step by step.[3]

Step 1: Menril basics

Your starting point is the Menril tree. A Menril Log turns into Menril Planks, and from there you get the usual building set: Menril Stairs, Menril Slab, Menril Fence, Menril Fence Gate and Menril Door. Menril Berries give you the Menril Torch and the Menril Stone Torch.[3]

Crafting Shapeless

  • any menril log

Recipe id: integrateddynamics:crafting/menril_planks

The material that really matters is the Crystallized Menril Chunk. Chunks craft into a Block of Crystallized Menril, and a block crafts back into chunks, so you can store them compactly and pull chunks out whenever you need them. The block also has its own decorative set: bricks, slabs and stairs.[3]

Crafting Shaped

9 × Crystallized Menril Chunk

Crafting Shapeless

Unverified The recipe data doesn't show how you get your first Crystallized Menril Chunks, or how the Squeezer and Drying Basin fit into making them. Check the chunk's uses and recipes in your recipe viewer in-game. This site does hold All the Mods - Gravitas's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

Step 2: Cables, programmer and tools

With chunks in hand, craft Logic Cable. That's the backbone of every network. Next is the Logic Programmer, made from a Block of Crystallized Menril. You can convert it into a Portable Logic Programmer and back again at any time.[3]

Crafting Shapeless

While you're here, grab On the Dynamics of Integration, the mod's book, which also comes from a menril chunk. The Labeller and Facade are menril-chunk crafts too.[3]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: integrateddynamics:crafting/on_the_dynamics_of_integration

Step 3: Readers, writers and panels

Parts are where your network starts doing things. Every reader part is built around an Input Variable Transformer, and every writer part around an Output Variable Transformer. So those two transformers are the items to mass-produce at this stage.[3]

Unverified The recipes for the Input and Output Variable Transformers, the Variable Card and the Variable Store aren't shown in the recipe data. Look them up in your recipe viewer. This site does hold All the Mods - Gravitas's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

Step 4: Variables and logic blocks

Once your network is up, the next tier is built around the Variable Card and the Variable Store. The Proxy and the Delayer need both of them, and the Materializer needs a Variable Card.[3]

The Logic Director brings in the chorus branch, because it needs a Crystallized Chorus Chunk alongside menril. On that branch, Menril Berries lead into Proto Chorus. Crystallized Chorus chunks and blocks convert back and forth just like the menril ones.[3]

Step 5: Power and automation

The Energy Battery is your gateway to powered machines. It's made from crystallized menril, and it's a key component in the Generator, the Mechanical Squeezer and the Mechanical Drying Basin. The two mechanical machines are upgrades of the manual Squeezer and Drying Basin, so keep your manual ones around to craft them.[3]

How does IntegratedDynamics work with other mods?

4 parts

Integrated Dynamics is the core of a whole family of add-ons in this pack. Integrated Tunnels, Integrated Terminals, Integrated Crafting and Integrated NBT all build their parts from Integrated Dynamics components. So the Menril and logic items you craft early on end up in pretty much everything that comes after.[3]

Integrated Tunnels: moving items, fluids and energy

Tunnels parts come in tiers. First you make interface parts for items, fluids and energy, and Crystallized Menril Chunks feed into all three. Then you upgrade an interface into an importer with an Input Variable Transformer, or into an exporter with an Output Variable Transformer.[3]

The next tier is the world parts, which interact directly with the world. Each importer or exporter becomes its world version when you craft it with a Logic Director. The world block importer and exporter also need a vanilla pickaxe in the recipe.[3]

Integrated Terminals: glass and storage terminals

Integrated Terminals uses Integrated Dynamics machines for its glass. You make Menril Glass from Menril Resin and Chorus Glass from Liquid Chorus, and both work in either the Drying Basin or the Mechanical Drying Basin.[3]

Integrated NBT: reading item data

The NBT Extractor and the NBT Extractor Remote from Integrated NBT both need a Logic Programmer and a Portable Logic Programmer, so craft those first if you want to pull NBT data into your logic networks.[3]

Tip: Crystallized Menril Chunks, Variable Transformers and Logic Directors show up again and again across the add-on recipes, so it pays to keep a good stock of them once your Menril setup is running.[3]

Which IntegratedDynamics config options matter?

4 parts

Integrated Dynamics has a long config file, but only a handful of options really change how you play. Here's how this pack sets the ones you're most likely to care about, all found in the mod's common config file.[4]

Energy and power

The biggest one first. The pack sets general.general.energyConsumptionMultiplier to 0, the energy usage multiplier for networks. Each part still has its own base consumption value. For example, general.general.connectorOmniDirectionalBaseConsumption is 128, general.general.connectorMonoDirectionalBaseConsumption is 32, general.general.variablestoreBaseConsumption is 4, general.general.proxyBaseConsumption is 2, and most readers and writers sit at 1.[4]

Unverified With a network energy multiplier of 0, your logic networks probably don't need any power at all, even though the per-part base values are still listed. The sources don't confirm this in-game, so test it on a small network before you skip power entirely.

If you do use energy batteries, machine.energy_battery.capacity is 1,000,000. machine.energy_battery.energyRateCapacityFraction is 2000, which means a battery can move 1/2000 of its capacity per tick. machine.energy_battery.minEnergyRate sets the minimum transfer rate at 2000 per tick. The overall network cap, core.general.energyRateLimit, is 2,147,483,647.[4]

The Mechanical Squeezer and Mechanical Drying Basin each have an energy capacity of 100,000 and a consumption rate of 80. The squeezer can auto-eject 500 mB of fluid per tick.[4]

Getting started

Heads up: you won't get the On the Dynamics of Integration book automatically, because item.on_the_dynamics_of_integration.obtainOnSpawn is false. item.on_the_dynamics_of_integration.bookRewards is also false, so finishing the book's tutorials won't give you item rewards.[4]

For Menril hunting, the Meneglin biome has an overworld spawn weight of 5. worldgeneration.meneglin.wildMenrilTreeChance is 100, and a higher value here means a lower chance of wild Menril Trees. Menril Wood has a 1/10 chance to generate filled with Menril Resin. Menril berries give night vision when eaten.[4]

Network behaviour

  • New parts update every 1 tick by default, set by machine.general.defaultPartUpdateFreq.[4]
  • Directional connectors can look up to 512 blocks away for their target.[4]
  • Operator recursion is capped at 256 deep. This stops crashes when you build things like the omega operator.[4]
  • Delayers can keep a value history of up to 1024 entries.[4]
  • Ingredient network observers can run multithreaded on up to 4 threads. They check the network every 5 to 40 ticks.[4]
  • The network diagnostics web server uses port 3030 by default.[4]
Tip: If a network keeps crashing your game or world, temporarily enable core.general.safeMode. It's off in this pack. While it's on, networks stop ticking and values aren't evaluated, so you can go in and fix things. The pack also has core.general.recreateCorruptedNetworks enabled, which restores corrupted networks on the first tick.[4]

Performance

Part overlays render out to 15 blocks, and a higher value costs more resources. Cable model caching is on. machine.cable.dynamicShape is enabled too, and the config itself suggests turning it off if you run into FPS issues.[4]

Unverified The sources only show this pack's values, not the mod's defaults. So this section can't tell you which of these settings the pack actually changed from stock Integrated Dynamics.

What changed in IntegratedDynamics between versions?

Right now there isn't much history to go through for IntegratedDynamics in this pack. All the Mods - Gravitas 4.0 ships IntegratedDynamics 1.16.1, the build made for Minecraft 1.18.2 (file IntegratedDynamics-1.18.2-1.16.1.jar). It was first included in Gravitas 4.0 or an earlier release.[1]

Unverified No pack changelog entries mention this mod, and there are no stored changelogs for the shipped jar. So which pack release first added it, whether its version changed between releases, and what changed inside the mod itself can't be confirmed yet.
