What is Simple Magnets?
2 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 4.5 guide
Simple Magnets adds magnets that pull in items and experience around you, so you spend less time chasing drops and more time building. If you hate hunting for loose items after mining, farming or a big fight, this mod is for you.[1]
Magnets can use a whitelist or blacklist, reach up to 11 blocks, and work in Baubles or Curios slots. You can also toggle them with a key bind.[1]
What you get
- Basicmagnet: picks up items and experience within a 5 block range of you.[1][2]
- Advanced Magnet: its range is configurable, and you can set item range and experience range separately. It also supports item filtering, and its maximum range is 11 blocks.[1]
- Demagnetization Coil: stops items from being attracted by magnets. Its area can be adjusted up to 3 blocks away.[1]
- Advanced Demagnetization Coil: does the same job with an area of up to 5 blocks, and it can filter items.[1]
Where it fits in the pack
This pack ships Simple Magnets 1.1.12+c for NeoForge. It has been in the pack since version 2.2 or earlier.[3]
In the pack's quest book, the quest a quest in "?" sits in the tips_and_tricks chapter, and its task is to obtain the Basicmagnet.[2]
How do you get started with Simple Magnets?
3 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 4.5 guide
Simple Magnets is all about not chasing drops around. Magnets pull in items and experience around you. The path is short: one magnet, one upgrade, and an optional way to stop magnets grabbing things you want left alone.[1]
Step 1: Make a Basic Magnet
Start with the Basicmagnet. It picks up items and experience within 5 blocks of you. The pack's quest book also has a quest in the tips_and_tricks chapter, a quest in "?", whose task is this magnet.[1][2]

To turn it on and off, select the magnet in your hotbar and right-click with it. The mod page also says magnets can go in Baubles or Curios slots and be toggled with a key bind.[1]
Step 2: Upgrade to the Advanced Magnet
Once you have spare resources, build the Advancedmagnet. Its recipe uses the Basic Magnet as an ingredient, and it reaches up to 11 blocks. You can set the range for items and for experience separately, and you can filter items.[1][4]

To open its GUI, select it in your hotbar and Shift-Right-Click. To set up a filter, follow these steps:[1]
- Open the Advanced Magnet's GUI.[1]
- Click a filter slot with the item you want to filter.[1]
- Switch the filter between whitelist and blacklist.[1]
- Choose whether the filter matches NBT data or not.[1]
Step 3 (optional): Demagnetization Coils
If a magnet keeps grabbing things you want to stay put, use a coil. The Basic Demagnetization Coil stops items from being attracted by magnets, and its area can be adjusted up to 3 blocks away.[1][5]

How does Simple Magnets work?
5 parts
Simple Magnets is a small mod, and there's no power, fluid or multiblock setup to worry about. The sources only describe magnets that pull in items and experience, and demagnetization coils that stop that pull in an area. Here's how each piece behaves in this pack.[1][5]
Magnets
Both magnets pick up items and experience while they're switched on. Select the magnet in your hotbar and right-click to toggle it. You can also toggle it with a key bind, and magnets work in Baubles or Curios slots.[1][5]
The Basicmagnet has a fixed range. This pack sets General.basicMagnetRange to 5 blocks, and the config allows values from 1 to 20.[1][6]
The Advancedmagnet has an adjustable range. In this pack the default is 8 blocks (General.advancedMagnetRange), the minimum is 3 (General.advancedMagnetMinRange) and the maximum is 11 (General.advancedMagnetMaxRange). The Modrinth page also says the range for items and for experience can be set individually.[1][6]
Filtering items with the Advanced Magnet
Shift-right-click with the Advanced Magnet selected in your hotbar to open its GUI. Only the Advanced Magnet can filter items. The Basic Magnet can't.[1][5]
- Open the Advanced Magnet's GUI.[1]
- Click one of the filter slots with the item you want to filter.[1]
- Switch the filter between whitelist and blacklist.[1]
- Choose whether the filter should match NBT data or not.[1]
Demagnetization coils
Demagnetization coils do the opposite job. They stop items within their area from being attracted by magnets. This is handy if you don't want a magnet grabbing items from a sorting area or a farm. To open a coil's GUI, look at it with an empty hand and right-click.[1][5]
- Basic Demagnetization Coil: default range 2 blocks, adjustable from 1 to 3. Filtering is turned off in this pack ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilFilter]] is false).[5][6]
- Advanced Demagnetization Coil: default range 3 blocks, adjustable from 1 to 5. Filtering is enabled in this pack ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilFilter]] is true).[5][6]
The coil ranges are set by [[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilRange]], [[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilMinRange]], [[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilMaxRange]] and their advanced counterparts [[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilRange]], [[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilMinRange]] and [[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilMaxRange]].[6]
Client feedback options
Three client options are all on in this pack. Client.playToggleSound plays a ding when a magnet is turned on or off. Client.showToggleMessage shows an on-screen message when you toggle. Client.showDemagnetizationArea highlights a coil's range when you look at it, which makes it easy to check your coverage.[6]

How do you progress through Simple Magnets?
4 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 4.5 guide
Simple Magnets keeps progression short and linear. In this pack you have a basic and an advanced magnet, Basicmagnet and Advancedmagnet, plus a matching basic and advanced demagnetization coil. Each advanced item is built from its basic version.[4]
Tier 1: Basic Magnet
The basic magnet is your entry point. The pack's "tips_and_tricks" quest chapter has a quest, a quest in "?", whose task is to obtain this item.[2]

Tier 2: Advanced Magnet
The advanced magnet is the upgrade, and its recipe uses a finished basic magnet. Craft the basic one first, then build this one from it.[4]

Demagnetization coils
The mod also has coils that follow the same basic-to-advanced pattern: Basic Demagnetization Coil and Advanced Demagnetization Coil. The advanced coil's recipe uses the basic coil, so you make the basic one first.[4]

How does Simple Magnets work with other mods?
1 part
Same as in the All the Mods 10 4.5 guide
Simple Magnets has one recipe link to another mod in this pack, and it goes into Mekanism. The pack adds a custom shaped crafting recipe for the Module Magnetic Attraction Unit, and the Basicmagnet from Simple Magnets is one of its ingredients.[4]

Quests
The only quest in the sources that involves Simple Magnets is a quest in "?" in the tips_and_tricks chapter. Its task is the Basicmagnet. It only involves the Simple Magnets item, so it does not connect to another mod.[2]
Which All the Mods 10 quests use Simple Magnets?
Same as in the All the Mods 10 4.5 guide
Simple Magnets only shows up in one place in this pack's quest book: the "tips_and_tricks" chapter. There is a single quest there that involves the mod, so there's no long questline to follow and no order to worry about.[2]
The quest is a quest in "?", and it has no title in the quest book. Its only task is an item task for the Basicmagnet, so you complete it by getting that magnet into your inventory.[2]
Unverified The sources don't show what reward this quest gives, what it requires before it unlocks, or how the Basic Magnet is crafted in this pack, so check the quest in-game for those details.
Which Simple Magnets config options matter?
3 parts
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide
Good news: Simple Magnets has just one config file, and in this pack every value in it is the mod's default. The pack changed nothing here, so you get the stock behavior. Here are the options you're most likely to touch, with the exact values the pack uses.[7]
Magnet ranges
- General.basicMagnetRange is 5, the pickup range for items and XP with the Basic Magnet. The allowed range is 1 to 20.[7]
- General.advancedMagnetRange is 8. This is the Advanced Magnet's default pickup range for items and XP.[7]
- General.advancedMagnetMinRange is 3 and General.advancedMagnetMaxRange is 11. These set the limits you can adjust the Advanced Magnet between. Both accept values from 1 to 20.[7]
Demagnetization coils
Coils stop items from being pulled in by magnets. Their ranges and filtering are configurable, and the allowed range for all coil range options is 1 to 10.[1][7]
- Basic coil: [[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilRange]] is 2, with a minimum of 1 ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilMinRange]]) and a maximum of 3 ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilMaxRange]]).[7]
- Advanced coil: [[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilRange]] is 3, with a minimum of 1 ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilMinRange]]) and a maximum of 5 ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilMaxRange]]).[7]
- [[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilFilter]] is false, so the Basic coil can't filter items. [[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilFilter]] is true, so the Advanced coil can.[1][7]
Client options
These are all quality-of-life toggles, and all of them are true in this pack. Switch any of them to false if it bugs you.[7]
- Client.playToggleSound plays a ding when you turn a magnet on or off.[7]
- Client.showToggleMessage shows an on-screen message when you toggle a magnet.[7]
- Client.showDemagnetizationArea highlights a Demagnetization Coil's range when you look at it, which is handy for placing coils.[7]
What changed in Simple Magnets between versions?
All the Mods 10 2.12 ships Simple Magnets 1.1.12+b, the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21. The mod was first included in All the Mods 10 0.32 or earlier, so it has been in the pack for a long time.[8]
The mod's own changelog is short and is mostly bug fixes. Here is everything it lists, newest first.[9]
- 1.1.12b (the version in this pack): fixed a crash when changing advanced magnet options.[8][9]
- 1.1.12a: fixed the advanced magnet data component not being comparable.[9][10]
- 1.1.12: fixed demagnetization coil option changes not always getting saved.[9][11]
- 1.1.11b: fixed magnets not going in Curios slots.[9][12]
- 1.1.11a: fixed a crash on startup.[9][13]
- 1.1.11: the initial release of Simple Magnets for Minecraft 1.21.[9][13]
