What is Simple Magnets?
3 parts
Simple Magnets adds magnets that pull in the items and experience around you, so you don't have to chase every drop. If you're tired of hunting for loot after a farm, a mining trip or a fight, this mod is for you. It's a small quality-of-life mod, and the pack includes version 1.1.12+c.[1][2]
What you get
- Basicmagnet: picks up items and experience within a 5 block range of you.[1][3]
- Advancedmagnet: has a configurable range of up to 11 blocks, and you can set the range for items and experience separately. It can also filter items with a whitelist or blacklist.[1][3]
- Basic Demagnetization Coil: stops items from being attracted by magnets. Its effective area can be adjusted up to 3 blocks away.[1][3]
- Advanced Demagnetization Coil: does the same job with an area of up to 5 blocks, and it can filter items too.[1][3]
Using them
Select a magnet in your hotbar and right-click to turn it on or off. Shift-right-click with the Advanced Magnet to open its GUI. The project page also says magnets work in Baubles or Curios slots and can be toggled with a key bind.[1]
The coils are useful when you want certain items to stay where they are, for example in front of a collection setup. Look at a coil with an empty hand and right-click it to open its GUI.[1]
Where it fits in the pack
The pack's quest book mentions all four items in one quest, "Simple Magnets" quest, in the useful_items_tips chapter. The quest asks for the Basic Magnet, Advanced Magnet, Basic Demagnetization Coil and Advanced Demagnetization Coil.[1][3]
How do you get started with Simple Magnets?
4 parts
Simple Magnets is a small mod with a big quality-of-life payoff: its magnets pull nearby items and experience straight to you, so you stop chasing drops around. The pack has a quest that asks for all four of the mod's items, which makes a handy checklist: "Simple Magnets" quest.[1][3]
Step 1: Make the Basic Magnet
Start with the Basicmagnet. When it is activated, it picks up items and xp within a short range around you. The mod's project page gives that range as 5 blocks. This is the one to craft first, because it is useful right away.[1][4][5]
Heads up: the pack changed this recipe from the mod's default, so don't rely on what you remember from other packs. The block below shows the exact in-pack recipe.[4]

Using your magnet
The project page also says magnets work in Baubles or Curios slots and can be toggled with a key bind. I haven't confirmed how that is set up in this pack, so check your controls menu.[1]
Step 2: Upgrade to the Advanced Magnet
Next comes the Advancedmagnet. It does the same job, but you can filter which items it picks up. According to the project page, its range is configurable up to 11 blocks, and item and experience ranges can be set separately.[1][4][5]

- Select the Advanced Magnet in your hotbar and Shift-Right-Click to open its GUI.[1]
- Click a filter slot with the item you want to filter.[1]
- Switch the filter between whitelist and blacklist.[1]
- Choose whether the filter matches NBT data or not.[1]
Step 3: Demagnetization Coils (optional)
Magnets can be annoying in a base or next to an item-based machine, because they grab things you want left alone. That is what the coils are for. The Basic Demagnetization Coil stops items from being attracted by magnets, and its area can be adjusted up to 3 blocks away, according to the project page.[1][4][5]

How does Simple Magnets work?
5 parts
Simple Magnets is a small mod built around two ideas: magnets that pull in items and experience around you, and demagnetization coils that stop magnets from attracting items in an area. Here is how each piece behaves in this pack.[1][5]
Magnets
Both magnets pick up items and experience around the player while they are switched on. You can carry them in a Baubles or Curios slot, and they can be toggled with a key bind as well.[1][5]
- To turn a magnet on or off, select it in your hotbar and right-click with it.[1]
- To open the Advanced Magnet's screen, select it in your hotbar and shift-right-click.[1]
The Basicmagnet has a single range setting. This pack sets it to 5 blocks with General.basicMagnetRange, and that option accepts values from 1 to 20.[1][4][6]
The Advancedmagnet is the adjustable one. Its range starts at 8 blocks (General.advancedMagnetRange), with a minimum of 3 (General.advancedMagnetMinRange) and a maximum of 11 (General.advancedMagnetMaxRange). The range for items and for experience can be set separately.[1][4][6]
Filtering with the Advanced Magnet
The Advanced Magnet can filter what it picks up, using a whitelist or a blacklist. Here is how you set a filter up:[1][5]
- Open the Advanced Magnet's screen.[1]
- Click one of the filter slots while holding the item you want to filter.[1]
- Switch the filter between whitelist and blacklist.[1]
- Choose whether the filter should match NBT data or not.[1]
Demagnetization coils
Demagnetization coils stop magnets from attracting items within their area. To open a coil's screen, look at it with an empty hand and right-click it.[1][5]
The Basic Demagnetization Coil defaults to 2 blocks, and its range can be set between 1 and 3 ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilRange]], [[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilMinRange]] and [[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilMaxRange]]). In this pack it has item filtering turned off ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilFilter]]).[4][6]
The Advanced Demagnetization Coil defaults to 3 blocks and can be set between 1 and 5 ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilRange]], [[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilMinRange]] and [[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilMaxRange]]). Item filtering is turned on here ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilFilter]]), so you can choose which items it blocks.[4][5][6]
Client options
The client-side options in the same config file control the feedback you get, and they are all on in this pack. Client.playToggleSound plays a ding when a magnet is switched, Client.showToggleMessage shows an on-screen message for the same, and Client.showDemagnetizationArea highlights a coil's range when you look at it.[6]
Crafting
The pack changes the Basic Magnet's recipe from the mod's own, so follow this one.[4]

How do you progress through Simple Magnets?
4 parts
Simple Magnets has a short, clear progression in this pack: a basic and an advanced magnet, plus a basic and an advanced demagnetization coil. Each advanced item is crafted from its basic version, so you build them in order.[4]
Where the quest fits
The mod appears in the useful_items_tips quest chapter. The quest "Simple Magnets" quest is untitled, and its tasks are to obtain Basicmagnet, Advancedmagnet, Basic Demagnetization Coil and Advanced Demagnetization Coil. That makes it a handy checklist for the whole mod.[3]
Basic Magnet
The Basicmagnet is where you start. The pack changed this recipe from the mod's own, so don't rely on what you remember from other modpacks. This is the exact in-pack version:[4]
Crafting Shaped
| any iron ingot | any iron ingot | any lapi gems |
| any iron ingot | Empty slot | |

Changed by the pack.
Advanced Magnet
The Advancedmagnet is the upgrade, and its recipe uses the basic magnet as an ingredient. Make the basic magnet first and keep it for this craft. The recipe is a mod recipe that the pack did not change.[4]

Demagnetization coils
The coils follow the same basic-to-advanced pattern. The Basic Demagnetization Coil is the entry-level craft, and it is a mod recipe that the pack left as is.[4]

How does Simple Magnets work with other mods?
1 part
The one clear link between Simple Magnets and another mod in this pack is the Basic Magnet recipe. The pack changed it so that it uses Grains of Infinity, an item from a different mod, for your first Basicmagnet.[4]
Crafting Shaped
| any iron ingot | any iron ingot | any lapi gems |
| any iron ingot | Empty slot | |

This is the pack's changed recipe, so it may differ from the mod default.
Among the recipes the pack dump lists as connecting Simple Magnets with other mods, the Basic Magnet is the only one.[4]
Quests
The quest "Simple Magnets" quest in the useful_items_tips chapter asks you to obtain the Basicmagnet, the Advancedmagnet, the Basic Demagnetization Coil and the Advanced Demagnetization Coil. All four tasks are Simple Magnets items, so this quest does not tie the mod to any other mod.[3]
Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Simple Magnets?
In this pack's quest book, Simple Magnets appears in the "useful_items_tips" chapter. That is the only quest chapter that involves the mod, so there is no long questline to follow.[3]
The quest "Simple Magnets" quest has no title in the pack files. It is made up of item tasks, listed in this order:[3]
So the quest covers both magnets (basic, then advanced) and both demagnetization coils (basic, then advanced). If you want the full picture of what each item does, the rest of this guide covers them.[3]
Which Simple Magnets config options matter?
3 parts
Good news: Simple Magnets has just one config file, and in this pack every value in it is the mod's default. The pack changed nothing here, so you get the stock behavior. Here are the options you're most likely to touch, with the exact values the pack uses.[6]
Magnet ranges
- General.basicMagnetRange is 5, the pickup range for items and XP with the Basic Magnet. The allowed range is 1 to 20.[6]
- General.advancedMagnetRange is 8. This is the Advanced Magnet's default pickup range for items and XP.[6]
- General.advancedMagnetMinRange is 3 and General.advancedMagnetMaxRange is 11. These set the limits you can adjust the Advanced Magnet between. Both accept values from 1 to 20.[6]
Demagnetization coils
Coils stop items from being pulled in by magnets. Their ranges and filtering are configurable, and the allowed range for all coil range options is 1 to 10.[1][6]
- Basic coil: [[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilRange]] is 2, with a minimum of 1 ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilMinRange]]) and a maximum of 3 ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilMaxRange]]).[6]
- Advanced coil: [[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilRange]] is 3, with a minimum of 1 ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilMinRange]]) and a maximum of 5 ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilMaxRange]]).[6]
- [[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilFilter]] is false, so the Basic coil can't filter items. [[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilFilter]] is true, so the Advanced coil can.[1][6]
Client options
These are all quality-of-life toggles, and all of them are true in this pack. Switch any of them to false if it bugs you.[6]
- Client.playToggleSound plays a ding when you turn a magnet on or off.[6]
- Client.showToggleMessage shows an on-screen message when you toggle a magnet.[6]
- Client.showDemagnetizationArea highlights a Demagnetization Coil's range when you look at it, which is handy for placing coils.[6]
What changed in Simple Magnets between versions?
1 part
Simple Magnets in FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 is version 1.1.12c, the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21. It has been in the pack since FTB Skies 2 1.0.1 or earlier.[2]
Unverified No pack changelog entries for Simple Magnets were available, so it is unverified whether any pack release changed its recipes or values. The list below comes only from the mod's own changelog.
Mod changelog, newest first
- 1.1.12c (the version in this pack): fixed integration with Curios.[2][7]
- 1.1.12b: fixed a crash when changing advanced magnet options.[7]
- 1.1.12a: fixed the advanced magnet data component not being comparable.[7]
- 1.1.12: fixed demagnetization coil option changes not always getting saved.[7]
