What is Simple Magnets?
3 parts
Simple Magnets adds magnets that pull items and experience toward you while you play. If you're tired of chasing drops across a big farm or a messy mining area, this mod is for you. The pack includes version 1.1.12+c.[1][2]
The magnets
- Basicmagnet picks up items and experience within 5 blocks of you.[1][3]
- Advancedmagnet has a configurable range, up to 11 blocks. You can set the item range and the experience range separately, and filter items with a whitelist or blacklist.[1][3]
Both magnets can be used in Baubles or Curios slots, and you can toggle them with a key bind. Without the key bind, select the magnet in your hotbar and right-click to switch it on or off. For the Advanced Magnet, shift-right-click opens its GUI.[1]
The demagnetization coils
Sometimes you want items to stay put, for example where they're meant to land on a belt or in a collection spot. Demagnetization coils stop items from being attracted by magnets. Basic Demagnetization Coil covers an area adjustable up to 3 blocks away. Advanced Demagnetization Coil reaches up to 5 blocks and can filter items.[1][3]
Where it fits in the pack
All four items are tasks in quest "Simple Magnets" quest in the "useful_items_tips" quest chapter. So the pack presents them as handy utility items rather than a progression gate.[1][3]
How do you get started with Simple Magnets?
3 parts
Simple Magnets pulls dropped items and experience to you so you stop chasing loot. The pack's quest book covers it in the quest "Simple Magnets" quest, in the chapter "Useful Items & Tips" (group "Forgotten Knowledge", chapter 18 of 22). Here is the order I'd make things in.[3][4]
First: the Basic Magnet
Start with the Basicmagnet. The Advanced Magnet is crafted from it, so you need it either way. Once you have one, right-click to turn it on. While it's active and on your person, items and experience in range get pulled to you. The pack sets its range with General.basicMagnetRange at 5 blocks.[3][4][5][6]

Magnets can also go in a Curios slot and be toggled with a key bind, so you don't have to keep one selected in your hotbar.[1]
Second: the Advanced Magnet
Next, upgrade to the Advancedmagnet. It has a larger range and a filter menu, which you open by sneak + right-clicking with it. In the filter you pick items, then choose whitelist or blacklist, so you only grab the drops you want.[1][3]

In this pack its default range is 8 blocks (General.advancedMagnetRange). The minimum is 3 and the maximum is 11 (General.advancedMagnetMinRange and General.advancedMagnetMaxRange).[6]
Third: Demagnetization Coils
Once your magnets are running, you may want an area they leave alone. That's what the coils are for: any item inside a coil's range ignores Simple Magnets pulling on it. To open a coil's menu, look at it with an empty hand and right-click.[1][3]
The Basic Demagnetization Coil has a default range of 2 blocks, up to 3. In this pack its item filter is turned off ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilFilter]]).[6]

How does Simple Magnets work?
5 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.12 guide
Simple Magnets is a small mod, and there's no power, fluid or multiblock setup to worry about. The sources only describe magnets that pull in items and experience, and demagnetization coils that stop that pull in an area. Here's how each piece behaves in this pack.[1][7]
Magnets
Both magnets pick up items and experience while they're switched on. Select the magnet in your hotbar and right-click to toggle it. You can also toggle it with a key bind, and magnets work in Baubles or Curios slots.[1][7]
The Basicmagnet has a fixed range. This pack sets General.basicMagnetRange to 5 blocks, and the config allows values from 1 to 20.[1][8]
The Advancedmagnet has an adjustable range. In this pack the default is 8 blocks (General.advancedMagnetRange), the minimum is 3 (General.advancedMagnetMinRange) and the maximum is 11 (General.advancedMagnetMaxRange). The Modrinth page also says the range for items and for experience can be set individually.[1][8]
Filtering items with the Advanced Magnet
Shift-right-click with the Advanced Magnet selected in your hotbar to open its GUI. Only the Advanced Magnet can filter items. The Basic Magnet can't.[1][7]
- Open the Advanced Magnet's GUI.[1]
- Click one of the filter slots with the item you want to filter.[1]
- Switch the filter between whitelist and blacklist.[1]
- Choose whether the filter should match NBT data or not.[1]
Demagnetization coils
Demagnetization coils do the opposite job. They stop items within their area from being attracted by magnets. This is handy if you don't want a magnet grabbing items from a sorting area or a farm. To open a coil's GUI, look at it with an empty hand and right-click.[1][7]
- Basic Demagnetization Coil: default range 2 blocks, adjustable from 1 to 3. Filtering is turned off in this pack ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilFilter]] is false).[7][8]
- Advanced Demagnetization Coil: default range 3 blocks, adjustable from 1 to 5. Filtering is enabled in this pack ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilFilter]] is true).[7][8]
The coil ranges are set by [[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilRange]], [[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilMinRange]], [[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilMaxRange]] and their advanced counterparts [[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilRange]], [[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilMinRange]] and [[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilMaxRange]].[8]
Client feedback options
Three client options are all on in this pack. Client.playToggleSound plays a ding when a magnet is turned on or off. Client.showToggleMessage shows an on-screen message when you toggle. Client.showDemagnetizationArea highlights a coil's range when you look at it, which makes it easy to check your coverage.[8]

How do you progress through Simple Magnets?
3 parts
Simple Magnets is a small mod with two lines of items, each with a basic and an advanced tier. In this pack the progression is short: you craft the basic version, then step up to the advanced one. The quest book covers all four items in a single quest.[3][5]
Where it sits in the quest book
The "Simple Magnets" quest quest is in the "Useful Items & Tips" chapter, which is chapter 18 of 22 in the book and belongs to the Forgotten Knowledge group. That chapter is a grab bag of 24 quality-of-life quests. Its neighbours include "Item Collectors" quest, "Inventory Trashcan!" quest and a quest in "Useful Items & Tips". The quest has four item tasks, one for each tier: Basicmagnet, Advancedmagnet, Basic Demagnetization Coil and Advanced Demagnetization Coil.[3]
Magnet tiers
The Basicmagnet is where you start. Craft it, activate it with a right click, and while it's on you, items in range get pulled to you so you can pick them up.[3]

Recipe id: simplemagnets:basicmagnet
The Advancedmagnet is the upgrade. It has a larger range than the basic one, and it adds a filter menu that you open with sneak + right click. The filter is the big reason to upgrade, because it lets you choose what gets pulled in.[3]

Demagnetization coil tiers
If you don't want a magnet grabbing items in a particular area, the coils are the answer. Any items inside a coil's range ignore the pull of Simple Magnets. The Basic Demagnetization Coil is the first tier.[3]

Unverified The exact pickup range of each magnet and coil is not given in the sources I have, so I can't give you numbers. The quest only says the advanced magnet has a larger range than the basic one.
Which FTB StoneBlock 4 quests use Simple Magnets?
2 parts
Simple Magnets has a single quest in the pack's quest book. It sits in the chapter "Useful Items & Tips", which is in the group "Forgotten Knowledge" and is chapter 18 of 22 in the book. The chapter is a grab bag of 24 quests, each pointing you at a handy item or mod.[3]
The Simple Magnets quest
The quest "Simple Magnets" quest asks you to obtain all four of the mod's items: the Basicmagnet, the Advancedmagnet, the Basic Demagnetization Coil and the Advanced Demagnetization Coil.[3]
The quest text explains how they work. Craft a magnet and activate it with a right click. While it's on your person, any items in range are pulled to you so you can pick them up.[3]
The Advanced Magnet has a larger range and a filter menu, which you open by sneaking and right clicking.[3]
The Demagnetization Coils are for areas where you don't want your magnet to pull items. Any items in a coil's range ignore the pull of Simple Magnets.[3]
Related quests in the same chapter
If you want to stop items piling up on the ground, "Item Collectors" quest is in the same chapter. It covers several ways to collect items from your farms, and each one lets you set the collection range.[3]
Which Simple Magnets config options matter?
3 parts
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide
Good news: Simple Magnets has just one config file, and in this pack every value in it is the mod's default. The pack changed nothing here, so you get the stock behavior. Here are the options you're most likely to touch, with the exact values the pack uses.[9]
Magnet ranges
- General.basicMagnetRange is 5, the pickup range for items and XP with the Basic Magnet. The allowed range is 1 to 20.[9]
- General.advancedMagnetRange is 8. This is the Advanced Magnet's default pickup range for items and XP.[9]
- General.advancedMagnetMinRange is 3 and General.advancedMagnetMaxRange is 11. These set the limits you can adjust the Advanced Magnet between. Both accept values from 1 to 20.[9]
Demagnetization coils
Coils stop items from being pulled in by magnets. Their ranges and filtering are configurable, and the allowed range for all coil range options is 1 to 10.[1][9]
- Basic coil: [[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilRange]] is 2, with a minimum of 1 ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilMinRange]]) and a maximum of 3 ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilMaxRange]]).[9]
- Advanced coil: [[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilRange]] is 3, with a minimum of 1 ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilMinRange]]) and a maximum of 5 ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilMaxRange]]).[9]
- [[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilFilter]] is false, so the Basic coil can't filter items. [[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilFilter]] is true, so the Advanced coil can.[1][9]
Client options
These are all quality-of-life toggles, and all of them are true in this pack. Switch any of them to false if it bugs you.[9]
- Client.playToggleSound plays a ding when you turn a magnet on or off.[9]
- Client.showToggleMessage shows an on-screen message when you toggle a magnet.[9]
- Client.showDemagnetizationArea highlights a Demagnetization Coil's range when you look at it, which is handy for placing coils.[9]
