What is Simple Magnets?
2 parts
Simple Magnets adds magnets that pull items and experience toward you, so you stop chasing drops around your base. This pack ships version 1.1.12 of the mod.[1][2]
Magnets can use a whitelist or blacklist, reach up to 11 blocks, work in Baubles or Curios slots, and can be toggled with a key bind.[1]
What you get
- Basic Magnet: picks up items and experience within a 5 block range of you.[1]
- Advanced Magnet: the range is configurable, separately for items and for experience. It also supports item filtering with a whitelist or blacklist.[1]
- Demagnetization Coil: stops items from being attracted by magnets. Its effective area can be adjusted up to 3 blocks away.[1]
- Advanced Demagnetization Coil: does the same job with an area of up to 5 blocks, and it can filter items.[1]
In the quest book
The pack's quest book places the mod in the chapter "Useful mods and Items", chapter 3 of 44 in the book, which holds 37 quests. The quest is called "Magnet" quest, and its only task is to get the Basicmagnet.[3]
How do you get started with Simple Magnets?
3 parts
Simple Magnets is a small mod with one job: it pulls dropped items and experience toward you so you stop chasing loot. The set is short, so the order is: make a Basic Magnet, upgrade to the Advanced Magnet, then add demagnetization coils if you want to keep items from being attracted.[1]
Step one: make the Basic Magnet
Start with Basicmagnet. In the pack's quest book it is the "Magnet" quest "Magnet" quest, in the chapter "Useful mods and Items". That quest asks only for the Basic Magnet.[3]

When it is active, it picks up items and experience within a range set by General.basicMagnetRange. This pack sets it to 5 blocks.[4][5]
To switch it on or off, select the magnet in your hotbar and right-click. If you find the feedback annoying, the ding sound is controlled by Client.playToggleSound and the on-screen message by Client.showToggleMessage. Both are set to true in this pack.[1][5]
Step two: upgrade to the Advanced Magnet
Next comes the Advancedmagnet. It does the same job as the Basic Magnet, but its range can be adjusted and it can filter items.[1][4][6]

In this pack its default range is 8 blocks (General.advancedMagnetRange). You can tune it from 3 blocks (General.advancedMagnetMinRange) up to 11 blocks (General.advancedMagnetMaxRange).[5]
- Select the Advanced Magnet in your hotbar and shift-right-click to open its GUI.[1]
- Click a filter slot with the item you want to filter by.[1]
- Switch the filter between whitelist and blacklist, and choose whether it matches NBT data.[1]
Step three: add demagnetization coils when you need them
The coils stop items within their area from being attracted by magnets. Start with the Basic Demagnetization Coil.[1][4][6]

In this pack it defaults to a range of 2 blocks and can be set from 1 to 3 blocks. It cannot filter items, because [[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilFilter]] is false.[5]
The Advanced Demagnetization Coil is the upgrade.[1][6]

Here the default range is 3 blocks and it can be adjusted from 1 to 5 blocks. Filtering is enabled, since [[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilFilter]] is true. To open a coil's GUI, look at the placed coil with an empty hand and right-click it.[1][5]
How does Simple Magnets work?
5 parts
Simple Magnets keeps things simple: there are no multiblocks or machine networks to build here. You get magnets that pull in dropped items and experience around you while they are switched on, and coils that stop magnets from grabbing items in an area.[1][4]
The magnets
The Basicmagnet picks up items and experience within a fixed radius. In this pack that radius is 5 blocks, set by General.basicMagnetRange.[1][4][5][6]
The Advancedmagnet does the same job, but you choose its range. By default it reaches 8 blocks (General.advancedMagnetRange). You can set it anywhere between a minimum of 3 (General.advancedMagnetMinRange) and a maximum of 11 (General.advancedMagnetMaxRange). Range for items and for experience can be configured individually.[1][5][6]
Both magnets also work in Baubles or Curios slots, and you can toggle them with a key bind instead of holding them.[1]
Switching a magnet on and off
By default the game plays a ding when you toggle (Client.playToggleSound) and shows an on-screen message (Client.showToggleMessage). Both are enabled in this pack.[5]
Advanced Magnet GUI and filtering
To open the Advanced Magnet's GUI, hold it in your hotbar and Shift-Right-Click. That is where you adjust ranges and set up item filters.[1]
- Open the Advanced Magnet's GUI.[1]
- Click one of the filter slots while holding the item you want to filter.[1]
- Switch the filter between whitelist and blacklist.[1]
- Choose whether the filter should match NBT data or not.[1]
Demagnetization coils
Coils are placed blocks that stop magnets from attracting items near them. This is handy for keeping a farm's output or a sorting area from being vacuumed up by your own magnet.[1][4]
The Basic Demagnetization Coil defaults to a range of 2 blocks ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilRange]]) and can be adjusted from 1 ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilMinRange]]) up to 3 ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilMaxRange]]).[1][5][6]
The Advanced Demagnetization Coil defaults to 3 blocks ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilRange]]) and can be adjusted from 1 ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilMinRange]]) up to 5 ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilMaxRange]]).[1][5][6]
- Look at the coil with an empty hand.[1]
- Right-click it to open its GUI and adjust the range (and the filter, if the coil supports it).[1]
While you look at a coil, its range is highlighted so you can see what it covers. This is controlled by Client.showDemagnetizationArea, which is enabled in this pack.[5]

Here are the in-pack recipes for the four items, from the magnets to the coils.[1][6]

How do you progress through Simple Magnets?
4 parts
Simple Magnets has magnets and demagnetization coils in this pack, each with a basic and an advanced tier. Each one is a normal crafting-table recipe, and the advanced version of each is built on top of the basic one, so you work through them in order.[6]
Where the quest book puts it
The pack's quest book lists the mod in its "Useful mods and Items" chapter. The quest "Magnet" quest asks you to obtain the Basicmagnet, which you craft with the shaped recipe shown under Tier 1 below. That is the only Simple Magnets item the quest book asks for in that chapter. Nothing there asks for the advanced magnet or either coil.[3][6]
Tier 1: basic magnet
The Basicmagnet is where you start. It is a shaped crafting recipe from the mod itself, and the pack hasn't changed it.[6]
Crafting Shaped
| any iron ingot | any iron ingot | any lapi gems |
| any iron ingot | any ender pearl | Empty slot |
| any iron ingot | any iron ingot | any redstone dust |
Recipe id: simplemagnets:basicmagnet
Tier 2: advanced magnet
The Advancedmagnet is the upgrade, and its recipe uses your basic magnet as one of its inputs. So don't spend or lose the first magnet before you craft this one. This is also a shaped recipe from the mod, unchanged by the pack.[6]

Demagnetization coils
The coils follow the same basic-then-advanced pattern. You craft the Basic Demagnetization Coil first.[6]

Then the basic coil is the base for the Advanced Demagnetization Coil. Both coil recipes are shaped crafting recipes from the mod.[6]

Which Project Infinity 0.1 quests use Simple Magnets?
2 parts
Simple Magnets shows up in one place in the pack's quest book: the quest "Magnet" quest. It sits in the chapter "Useful mods and Items", which is chapter 3 of 44 in the book and holds 37 quests.[3]
What the Magnet quest asks for
It's a simple one-task quest: you hand in the Basicmagnet. There's no extra description text on it, so the quest is just a nudge to get a magnet in your inventory.[3]
What it sits next to
The chapter is a grab bag of handy mods and items, each with its own quest. It includes things like "Item Collectors" quest, "Tool Belt" quest and "Construction Wand" quest. The Magnet quest is one entry in that mix, not a chapter of its own.[3]
The quest data I have doesn't say which quests lead into the Magnet quest or which ones it unlocks, so I can't tell you the exact order within the chapter.[3]
Which Simple Magnets config options matter?
3 parts
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide
Good news: Simple Magnets has just one config file, and in this pack every value in it is the mod's default. The pack changed nothing here, so you get the stock behavior. Here are the options you're most likely to touch, with the exact values the pack uses.[7]
Magnet ranges
- General.basicMagnetRange is 5, the pickup range for items and XP with the Basic Magnet. The allowed range is 1 to 20.[7]
- General.advancedMagnetRange is 8. This is the Advanced Magnet's default pickup range for items and XP.[7]
- General.advancedMagnetMinRange is 3 and General.advancedMagnetMaxRange is 11. These set the limits you can adjust the Advanced Magnet between. Both accept values from 1 to 20.[7]
Demagnetization coils
Coils stop items from being pulled in by magnets. Their ranges and filtering are configurable, and the allowed range for all coil range options is 1 to 10.[1][7]
- Basic coil: [[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilRange]] is 2, with a minimum of 1 ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilMinRange]]) and a maximum of 3 ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilMaxRange]]).[7]
- Advanced coil: [[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilRange]] is 3, with a minimum of 1 ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilMinRange]]) and a maximum of 5 ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilMaxRange]]).[7]
- [[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilFilter]] is false, so the Basic coil can't filter items. [[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilFilter]] is true, so the Advanced coil can.[1][7]
Client options
These are all quality-of-life toggles, and all of them are true in this pack. Switch any of them to false if it bugs you.[7]
- Client.playToggleSound plays a ding when you turn a magnet on or off.[7]
- Client.showToggleMessage shows an on-screen message when you toggle a magnet.[7]
- Client.showDemagnetizationArea highlights a Demagnetization Coil's range when you look at it, which is handy for placing coils.[7]
