What is Regions Unexplored?

1 part

Regions Unexplored is a biome mod that overhauls world generation in both the Overworld and the Nether. It adds a whole stack of new biomes plus a plethora of new blocks and items, so there are plenty of unique regions out there waiting for you to find.[1]

If you love exploring and seeing what's over the next hill, this mod is for you. The mod's page advertises 64 new biomes, but that page describes the mod's newest releases. This pack ships version 0.5.6.1, so the exact biome count in your world may differ.[1][2]

Regions Unexplored has been part of the pack for a long time. It was first included in version 0.62 or earlier.[2]

Where it fits in the pack

Most of what Regions Unexplored adds lives out in the world itself, so you'll mainly run into it just by exploring the Overworld and the Nether.[1]

The quest book gives the mod a nod in the building tips chapter. There, a quest in "?" asks you to get any one of the mod's painted planks, such as Red Painted Planks, Blue Painted Planks or White Painted Planks. Any colour counts. That quest unlocks after an earlier quest in the same chapter.[3]

Tip: The mod doesn't have a wiki or a full up-to-date biome list, so a big part of the fun is heading out and discovering the biomes for yourself.[1]

How do you get started with Regions Unexplored?

4 parts

Regions Unexplored is a biome mod first and foremost. It reworks how the Overworld and the Nether generate, and it adds 64 new biomes along with a lot of new blocks and items. So your first steps aren't a tech ladder. You head out, find these new regions, and start collecting their materials.[1]

Step 1: Grab some new wood

Trees are the easiest place to start. The mod adds a long list of new log types, including the Baobab Log, Maple Log, Redwood Log, Socotra Log and Willow Log. Chopping down a Socotra tree earns you the This Tree Bleeds Red advancement. If you want a long-term goal, another advancement asks you to collect every log from the mod.[4][5]

Once you have logs, turn them into planks. Planks unlock the usual wood set: doors, fences, fence gates, buttons, pressure plates and boats. The baobab planks recipe below is a good example, and it accepts any baobab log.[4]

Those same planks also make a Baobab Boat, which you can upgrade into a Baobab Boat with Chest for extra storage while you explore.[4]

Step 2: Paint your planks for the quest

The pack's quest book has a Regions Unexplored quest in the building tips chapter: a quest in "?". It asks for painted planks in any colour, such as Red Painted Planks, Blue Painted Planks or Black Painted Planks. It only unlocks after an earlier quest in that chapter, so you may need to work through the chapter a bit first.[3]

Painted planks are a quick early craft. Every colour follows the same recipe pattern and works with ordinary planks as well as the mod's own. Pick whichever colour you have dye for and the quest is done.[4]

Step 3: The pack's shortcut for logs

This pack adds its own crafting recipes that produce Regions Unexplored logs. They cover types like Alpha, Ashen, Baobab, Maple, Palm, Redwood and more, so you can get those woods without tracking down each tree in the wild.[4]

Bonus early crafts

  • Ash can be crafted instead of collected, and you can use it to make Ashen Dirt.[4]
  • Branches such as the Acacia Branch and Baobab Branch have their own crafting recipes, which makes them easy to get for decorating your builds.[4]
  • Shrubs and saplings convert back and forth. For example, an Ashen Sapling crafts into an Ashen Shrub, and the shrub crafts back into the sapling.[4]

Tip: The mod sets its own exploration goals through advancements: explore every Surface biome, find every Cave biome, and venture into every Nether biome it adds. They make a nice checklist once your first builds are done.[5]

Unverified The sources don't say which biomes each tree grows in or how common the new biomes are in this pack's world generation, so you'll need to explore to find specific wood types.

How does Regions Unexplored work?

4 parts

Regions Unexplored is a biome mod, not a tech mod. It overhauls how the Overworld and the Nether generate and adds 64 new biomes along with a big pile of new blocks and items. So there are no machines, multiblocks, power networks or pipes to learn here. The mod's 'mechanics' are the world itself: where you find things, what they do when you touch them, and how its many wood types feed into your crafting.[1]

The world is the system

The mod's biomes are grouped into three families: Surface biomes, Cave biomes and Nether biomes. Each family has its own exploration advancement, plus one for finding every biome in the mod. Named examples include the Autumnal Maple Forest, the Cold Deciduous Forest and the Mycotoxic Undergrowth.[5]

Some blocks and plants in these biomes do more than sit there looking pretty. Keep an eye out for these interactions while you explore:[5]

  • Dorcel Flowers hurt you when you walk through them, so watch your step.[5]
  • Giant Lily Pads can be walked or bounced on.[5]
  • You can hang from the vines of Kapok trees.[5]
  • The Duskmelon and the Hanging Earlight Fruit can both be eaten.[5]
  • Socotra trees are a named chopping target: cutting one down earns the This Tree Bleeds Red advancement.[5]

Wood, bioshrooms and building sets

Most of what you will craft from this mod comes out of its trees. Each wood type gets a building set with planks, stairs, slabs, pressure plates, hanging signs and fence gates. Bioshrooms work the same way: they come in blue, green, pink and yellow, have stems, hyphae and planks like a tree, and have glowing block variants. On top of that there are painted planks, stairs and slabs in many colours.[5]

The wood recipes follow the vanilla pattern. You turn a log such as Alpha Log into Alpha Planks, and then turn the planks into Alpha Stairs and Alpha Slab.[4]

Handy conversion recipes

The mod also has a few small crafting conversions that let you make its natural blocks without hunting for them. You can make Acacia Branch and Acacia Shrub from vanilla acacia materials. You can craft Ash, and then use it to make Ashen Dirt. Any item in the #regions_unexplored:ash tag works for that last recipe.[4]

Automating logs in this pack

Here is the closest thing to automation this mod gets, and it comes from the pack, not the mod. This pack adds shaped crafting recipes that turn Unexplored Wood Essence into Regions Unexplored logs. Once you have a steady supply of that essence, you can craft logs like Redwood Log, Socotra Log, Kapok Log or Brimwood Log without travelling to their biomes.[4]

Tip: The mod has an advancement for collecting every one of its logs. The pack's essence recipes cover a long list of them, from Alpha Log to Willow Log, so they can save you a lot of biome hunting when you go for that advancement.[4][5]

Unverified How you get the unexplored wood essence in this pack, and whether every single Regions Unexplored log has an essence recipe, could not be confirmed from the available material. Check the recipe viewer in-game. This site does hold All the Mods 10's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How do you progress through Regions Unexplored?

2 parts

Regions Unexplored doesn't have a big tiered tech ladder in this pack. Its place in the quest book is one building-focused quest, and its recipes are mostly about wood, decoration and building blocks. Think of it as a palette upgrade rather than a progression line.[3][4]

The quest: painted planks

The mod appears in the building tips chapter through quest a quest in "?". To complete it you only need one set of painted planks in any color. Red Painted Planks, Blue Painted Planks, Black Painted Planks and every other color in the set all count. This quest unlocks after an earlier quest in the same chapter, so work through that chapter in order.[3]

Painted planks are a regular crafting recipe from the mod, not something the pack changed. Each color has its own recipe, and the planks slot accepts any planks.[4]

Once you have painted planks, you can turn them into shapes for building. For example, Black Painted Planks crafts into Black Painted Slab and Black Painted Stairs.[4]

Later on: renewable wood

This pack adds its own recipes that make Regions Unexplored logs from Mystical Agriculture's unexplored wood essence. That means you don't have to keep travelling to specific biomes once your farms are running. These recipes cover a lot of the mod's woods, including Baobab Log, Blackwood Log, Redwood Log, Magnolia Log, Willow Log and Alpha Log.[4]

Tip: The logs you get from essence work with the mod's normal wood recipes. Baobab logs, for example, become Baobab Planks, which lead on to the full Baobab set: stairs, slabs, doors, trapdoors, fences, signs and boats.[4]

How does Regions Unexplored work with other mods?

5 parts

Regions Unexplored adds a lot of new wood types, and this pack plugs that wood into several other mods. You can farm the logs with Mystical Agriculture, turn them into planks in Mekanism and Productive Trees machines, and build decorative furniture from them. Most of these connections are recipes the pack added itself.[4]

Mystical Agriculture: growing logs from essence

This pack adds shaped crafting recipes that turn Unexplored Wood Essence into Regions Unexplored logs. That means you can farm this mod's wood instead of chopping trees in far-off biomes. There's a recipe for each log type listed below.[4]

Mekanism sawing

The pack also adds Mekanism sawing recipes for Regions Unexplored wood. Each one turns a log into planks of the same type and also gives you Sawdust. Most of these recipes accept any log from that wood's tag, so different log variants of the same wood should work too.[4]

There are sawing recipes for Alpha, Baobab, Blackwood, Brimwood, Cobalt, Cypress, Dead, Eucalyptus, Joshua, Kapok, Larch, Magnolia, Maple, Mauve, Palm, Pine, Redwood, Socotra and Willow wood. There are also recipes for the Blue, Green, Pink and Yellow Bioshroom planks.[4]

Tip: Make a flat seat back first. The fancy and tall seat backs, like Black Baobab Fancy Seat Back and Black Alpha Tall Seat Back, are crafted from the matching flat seat back.[4]

Quests

Regions Unexplored also shows up in the pack's building tips quest chapter. Quest a quest in "?" asks for any colour of this mod's painted planks, so Red Painted Planks, White Painted Planks, Black Painted Planks or any other colour will complete it.[3]

Which All the Mods 10 quests use Regions Unexplored?

1 part

Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.12 guide

Regions Unexplored shows up in one spot in this pack's questbook: the building_tips chapter. There's no long quest line for this mod. It's a single quest that shows off its colorful painted planks as a decorating option.[6]

Building Tips chapter

The quest is a quest in "?". It has no title in the questbook, so look for it by its painted plank icon. It unlocks once you finish an earlier quest in the same chapter, so work through the chapter in order and it'll open up for you.[6]

To complete it, you only need one of the painted plank colors. Any one of the colors below counts, so pick whatever fits your build:[6]

Tip: You don't have to collect every color. Getting just one type of painted planks into your inventory is enough to check this quest off.[6]

Unverified The quest's rewards, and the name of the quest it comes after, aren't shown in the available pack data. Check the questbook in-game to see them.

Which Regions Unexplored config options matter?

Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.11 guide

There isn't much to tune here. Regions Unexplored is a worldgen mod: it overhauls Overworld and Nether generation with 64 new biomes plus a pile of new blocks and items, so most of what it does is baked into the world you generate rather than exposed as sliders you flip mid-playthrough.[1]

Unverified No config files for this mod were found in the pack, so there are no pack-changed values to document. Assume the mod is running on its own defaults, and treat any option list you find elsewhere as unconfirmed for this pack and version.

One thing worth knowing instead of a config: the mod's dependencies differ by version. On 0.6 and above it needs Lithostitched 1.7.9 or above (plus Fabric API on Fabric); on 0.5.9 and below it instead needs TerraBlender, with Forge Config API Port and Fabric API on Fabric. If you're adding or removing mods alongside it, that's the wiring to keep intact.[1]

Watch out: Because this mod changes how the Overworld and Nether generate, any change you make to worldgen behaviour only shows up in chunks that haven't been generated yet. Plan on a fresh world if you want the full set of biomes laid out properly.[1]

The mod has no wiki or fully up-to-date biome list of its own, so if you're hunting for a specific biome, expect to do some exploring rather than reading a table. Questions and update notes live in the developer's Discord.[1]

What changed in Regions Unexplored between versions?

1 part

All the Mods 10 2.8 ships Regions Unexplored 0.5.6.1, the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21. The mod has been in the pack since All the Mods 10 0.32 or earlier, so you may have been exploring its biomes for a while.[2]

Regions Unexplored 0.5.6.1

This is the version your pack runs, and the mod's own changelog lists three fixes:[2][7]

  • Fixed all blocks being usable as furnace fuel.[7]
  • Fixed Jar Dependencies.[7]
  • Fixed potted plant loot tables.[7]

I don't have any pack changelog entries for this mod, so I can't say what changed between pack releases beyond the version above.[2]
