What is Regions Unexplored?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 11 0.8.0-beta guide

Regions Unexplored is a biome mod. It overhauls how the Overworld and the Nether generate, so exploring feels fresh again. The project page advertises 64 new biomes, plus a lot of new blocks and items to find in them.[1]

It's for you if you like exploring, building, or just want your world to look different. It adds scenery and building material rather than a new tech or magic system.[1]

Version in this pack

This pack ships Regions Unexplored 0.7.0+beta2 for NeoForge. The 64 biome figure comes from the project page's general description, so I can't confirm it matches this exact build.[1][2]

The project page says that from version 0.6 onward the mod depends on Lithostitched 1.7.9 or above. Older versions used Terrablender instead. Since this pack's build is newer than 0.6, the Lithostitched requirement is the one that applies.[1][2]

Tip: The project page says the mod currently lacks a wiki and a full up-to-date biome list, so don't count on finding one online.[1]

Where it fits in progression

Unverified The sources I have don't show any quests in this pack that involve Regions Unexplored, and they don't place it on the ATM Star path. Treat it as an optional exploration and building mod rather than something your progression depends on.

How do you get started with Regions Unexplored?

5 parts

Regions Unexplored is a biome mod. Its project page describes 64 new biomes across the Overworld and Nether, plus plenty of new blocks and items. So your first steps are simple: head out, find the new trees, and turn them into building materials.[1]

Logs into planks

Chop a few logs from the new trees, such as Baobab Log or Blackwood Log, and turn them into planks. Planks are the base for almost everything else in that wood's set. Both recipes are shown below.[3]

Build with the planks

From planks you can make Baobab Stairs, Baobab Slab, Baobab Door, fences, trapdoors, signs and more. The Blackwood set follows the same pattern. Here are two examples to start with.[3]

A boat for the trip

Baobab and Blackwood both have a boat recipe and a chest boat recipe, which is handy for crossing water while you explore. Baobab examples are below: Baobab Boat and Baobab Boat with Chest.[3]

Saplings and shrubs

A sapling can be crafted into a shrub, and a shrub can be crafted back into a sapling, so you can switch between the two forms. Both directions are shown for Baobab Sapling and Baobab Shrub.[3]

Ash and Ashen Dirt

If you want Ashen Dirt, it has its own crafting recipes, including ones that start from Peat Dirt or Silt Dirt. Ash is craftable too. The Ash recipe and one Ashen Dirt recipe are shown below.[3]

Tip: The mod ships its own advancements to guide your exploring. One asks you to collect every log from Regions Unexplored, and another asks you to explore all of its Surface biomes.[4]

How does Regions Unexplored work?

4 parts

Regions Unexplored is a biome mod. Its project page describes it as an overhaul of Overworld and Nether generation, with 64 new biomes and many new blocks and items. That means this section is short: none of the sources describe machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item automation for the mod.[1]

Unverified The sources don't say whether the mod has any machines, power, fluid or automation features. They don't describe any, so don't assume there are any.

What it needs to run

The project page says versions 0.6 and above need Lithostitched 1.7.9 or above, plus Fabric API on Fabric. Versions 0.5.9 and below need Terrablender instead. Biome placement is handled by those libraries rather than by anything you build in-world.[1]

Unverified The sources don't confirm which Regions Unexplored version the pack ships, so I can't say which of those dependency lists applies here.

Crafting conversions

The mod's hands-on systems are ordinary crafting-table recipes. These are the ones shown in the pack's recipe dump, and none of them is flagged as changed by the pack.[3]

Ash is crafted, and it feeds into Ashen Dirt. Ashen Dirt can be made from plain dirt, from Peat Dirt or from Silt Dirt. Each recipe also takes any item from the ash tag.[3]

Saplings and shrubs convert back and forth. For example, Baobab Sapling crafts into Baobab Shrub, and the shrub crafts back into the sapling. The dump shows the same pairing for Ashen, Acacia and Birch, though for Acacia and Birch it lists only the sapling-to-shrub direction.[3]

Branches such as Baobab Branch, Acacia Branch and Birch Branch are crafted from the matching log. Baobab is the one that uses its own mod log; the other two start from the vanilla log.[3]

Wood sets

Wood types follow the usual vanilla pattern. For Baobab, any Baobab log makes Baobab Planks. The planks then make the slab, stairs, door, trapdoor, fence, fence gate, button, pressure plate, sign and boat. The hanging sign uses Stripped Baobab Log, and the chest boat is the boat combined with a chest.[3]

Painted planks work differently: Black Painted Planks are made from a dye and any planks, so you can recolour wood without needing the mod's own logs.[3]

World interactions

The mod's advancement descriptions hint at a few interactions you can try in the world. You can walk or bounce on a Giant Lily Pad, hang from a Kapok tree's vines, eat a Hanging Earlight Fruit or a Duskmelon, and take damage from a Dorcel Flower when you walk through it. Chopping down a Socotra tree also has its own advancement. These descriptions don't explain the exact mechanics, so treat them as pointers only.[4]

How do you progress through Regions Unexplored?

3 parts

Regions Unexplored doesn't have tiers in this pack. The recipes I can see are all for building and decoration blocks: wood sets, painted planks, flowers, shrubs and a few terrain blocks. None of them are machines, tools or armor, so nothing here gates the rest of your progression.[3]

Unverified No quests in this pack involve the mod, and it isn't on the ATM Star quest path. That comes from the pack's own notes rather than from the recipe dump, so treat it as unconfirmed here. Only part of the recipe dump was shown, so there may be recipes I haven't seen.

Wood sets: the main crafting chain

Most of what you craft is wood. Each tree type follows the same pattern: logs are crafted into planks, and the planks are crafted into everything else. That includes slabs, stairs, doors, trapdoors, fences, fence gates, buttons, pressure plates, signs and boats. Baobab and Blackwood both follow this pattern, and so does the Blue Bioshroom set, which uses stems instead of logs.[3]

Hanging signs are the one step that needs an extra item. They are made from a stripped log or stripped stem plus a chain, so strip some logs first.[3]

Shrubs and saplings

Saplings and shrubs convert back and forth, so you can turn a sapling into a decorative shrub and a shrub back into a sapling. The Baobab recipes show both directions.[3]

You can also dye vanilla planks into painted planks, such as Black Painted Planks and Blue Painted Planks. Slabs and stairs follow from those. Snowbelle flowers can be dyed too, for example into Black Snowbelle.[3]

Tip: Since nothing here is tier-gated, treat this mod as a building palette. Grab logs from the new biomes whenever you like and craft the matching blocks as you need them.[3]

How does Regions Unexplored work with other mods?

3 parts

Regions Unexplored is mostly about biomes and wood types, so its links to other mods come through its planks and logs. In this pack, the recipes that connect it to other mods are Mekanism sawing, Productive Trees sawmill and Productive Bees hives and expansion boxes.[1][3]

Mekanism sawing

The pack adds a Mekanism sawing recipe for each Regions Unexplored wood type, from Alpha and Baobab through to Yellow Bioshroom, Brimwood included. Each one turns logs into the matching planks plus Sawdust as a by-product. That's a handy way to get planks and sawdust from the same logs.[3]

Most of these recipes accept any log from that wood's log tag, so you don't need one specific log block. Alpha is the exception: it takes Alpha Log specifically.[3]

Recipe id: allthemods:mekanism/sawing/regions_unexplored/alpha_planks

Alpha is the one wood type that takes a single specific log.

  • any baobab log

Recipe id: allthemods:mekanism/sawing/regions_unexplored/baobab_planks

Most wood types work like this, with any log from the matching tag.

Productive Trees sawmill

The pack also adds a Productive Trees sawmill recipe for every one of these wood types. They use Sawdust, the matching planks and the matching logs.[3]

Unverified The recipe dump lists no outputs for the Productive Trees sawmill recipes, so what they actually produce is unconfirmed. Check the recipe in-game before you build a setup around it. This site does hold All the Mods 10's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

Productive Bees

Productive Bees uses Regions Unexplored planks for its expansion boxes. There is one for nearly every wood type in the mod, for example the Baobab Expansion Box and the Willow Expansion Box. Brimwood and Alpha are the two wood types here without one.[3]

The other expansion boxes follow the same pattern with their own planks.

Some wood types also get an advanced beehive, such as the Advanced Baobab Beehive and the Advanced Cobalt Beehive. The recipes also need a campfire, a hive, a honeycomb and shears, using item tags that other mods can fill.[3]

Tip: The Productive Bees recipes are marked as the mod's own recipes. The sawing recipes are marked as added by the pack, so don't expect them in a plain install of these mods.[3]

Which Regions Unexplored config options matter?

Same as in the All the Mods 10 0.50 guide

Unverified I don't have this pack's config files for Regions Unexplored, so I can't tell you which config options exist or which values the pack changed from the mod defaults. Any specific option or value I gave you here would be a guess, so I'm leaving them out.

The mod's project page doesn't document any config options either. All it says about setup is that the dependencies depend on the mod version. Versions 0.6 and above need Lithostitched 1.7.9 or above, plus Fabric API on Fabric. Versions 0.5.9 and below need Terrablender, plus Forge Config API Port and Fabric API on Fabric.[1]

Unverified Which of those two dependency sets this pack uses isn't confirmed by the sources I have, so check the pack's mod list before you go looking for config files.

What changed in Regions Unexplored between versions?

1 part

All the Mods 10 0.48 includes Regions Unexplored 0.5.6.1, the NeoForge build for 1.21. The mod was first included in All the Mods 10 0.32 or earlier.[5]

I have no pack changelog entries for this mod, so I can't say what changed for it between pack releases. What I do have is the mod's own changelog for the version this pack ships.[5]

Regions Unexplored 0.5.6.1

  • Fixed all blocks being usable as furnace fuel.[6]
  • Fixed jar dependencies.[6]
  • Fixed potted plant loot tables.[6]
