What is Regions Unexplored?

1 part

Regions Unexplored is a biome mod that overhauls world generation in both the Overworld and the Nether. It adds a big batch of new biomes plus a whole pile of new blocks and items. If you love wandering off to see what's over the next hill, this one's for you.[1]

All the Mods 10 5.0 ships Regions Unexplored version 0.5.6.1 for NeoForge 1.21.1, and it's been in the pack since version 2.25 or earlier. That's an older release than the latest one on the mod's project page, which lists Terrablender as a dependency for versions 0.5.9 and below.[1][2]

Unverified The project page says the mod has 64 new biomes, but that page describes the latest release. The exact biome count in version 0.5.6.1, the version in this pack, hasn't been confirmed.

Where it fits in the pack

Regions Unexplored is mainly about exploring, but builders get something from it too. The pack's questbook features it in the Building Tips chapter. The mod lets you paint Planks the same way you'd dye Wool or Glass, so you get colors like Red Painted Planks, Light Blue Painted Planks and Black Painted Planks.[3]

  • The quest "Painted Planks" quest unlocks after the Colored Blocks quest. Getting any one of the painted plank colors completes it.[3]
Tip: The mod doesn't have a wiki or a full, up-to-date biome list yet. The best way to learn it is to go out and explore, and the mod's Discord is the place for questions.[1]

How do you get started with Regions Unexplored?

5 parts

Regions Unexplored is a biome mod, so your first steps here are less about crafting and more about getting out into the world. It overhauls how the Overworld and Nether generate, adding 64 new biomes and a big pile of new blocks and items to find along the way.[1]

The mod's own advancements show you the main goals: explore all of its Surface biomes, find all of its Cave biomes and venture into all of its Nether biomes. Use them as a checklist while you wander.[4]

Step 1: Chop the new trees

Punch every new tree you run into. There is an advancement for collecting every log from Regions Unexplored, and another called This Tree Bleeds Red for chopping down a Socotra tree. Logs like Baobab Log, Maple Log, Redwood Log and Socotra Log are all part of that collection.[4][5]

Step 2: Turn logs into planks

Planks are the base of almost everything else in each wood set, so make them first. Here is the Baobab version as an example; the other wood types have their own plank recipes too.[5]

Step 3: Build out the wood set

Once you have planks, each wood unlocks a full set of blocks. For Baobab that includes doors, fences, fence gates, buttons, pressure plates, hanging signs and boats. If you are exploring along rivers or coasts, a boat is a handy early craft, and you can upgrade it to a Baobab Boat with Chest later.[5]

Step 4: Paint some planks

This is the one quest for this mod in the pack. "Painted Planks" quest sits in the Building Tips chapter after the Colored Blocks quest. Regions Unexplored lets you paint planks just like you would dye Wool or Glass. Any colour of painted planks completes the quest.[3]

How does Regions Unexplored work?

5 parts

Regions Unexplored is a biome mod, not a tech mod. It overhauls how the Overworld and the Nether generate, adding 64 new biomes along with a big pile of new blocks and items. So its core mechanics are about the world you explore and the materials you bring home, not machines or power networks.[1]

Unverified None of the available sources describe any machines, multiblocks, power, fluid or item-transport systems in Regions Unexplored. This section can't confirm whether any exist in this pack, so it covers only the systems the sources do show.

Exploring the biomes

The mod's biomes come in Surface, Cave and Nether groups, and its advancements track all three. Pioneer asks you to explore all the Surface biomes, Spelunker asks you to find all the Cave biomes, and Eternal Expedition sends you into every Nether biome. Regions Explored is the capstone for visiting every biome the mod adds.[4]

The advancements also make good collection goals. Mycologist and Ancient Specimens ask for every Bioshroom type and every Bioshroom Stem type, Every Bit of the Rainbow asks you to collect or craft every colour of Snowbelle Flower, and Got Wood asks for every log in the mod.[4]

Plants and blocks that do something

A few of the mod's plants and blocks react to you, and the advancements point them out. Keep these in mind while you explore:[4]

  • Dorcel Flowers hurt you if you walk through them, so watch your step.[4]
  • You can walk or bounce on Giant Lily Pads.[4]
  • You can hang from the vines on Kapok trees.[4]
  • Duskmelons and Hanging Earlight Fruit are both things you can eat.[4]
  • Socotra trees are worth chopping. There's even an advancement for it, This Tree Bleeds Red.[4]

Wood and building blocks

Most of what you'll bring home is wood. The mod has a long list of log types, including Alpha Log, Baobab Log, Blackwood Log, Brimwood Log, Kapok Log, Redwood Log and Socotra Log. Each wood follows the familiar chain: logs become planks, and planks become slabs and stairs. Here's the chain for Alpha wood, starting with Alpha Planks:[5]

Pack-added log recipes

This is where All the Mods 10 changes things. The pack adds its own crafting recipes for every Regions Unexplored log type, from Alpha Log and Ashen Log through Silver Birch Log, Small Oak Log and Willow Log. These recipes don't exist in the standalone mod, so you can craft these logs without tracking down each tree in its biome.[5]

Tip: Going for the Got Wood advancement, which asks for every log from the mod? The pack's log recipes can fill the gaps, like Dead Log or Joshua Log, if you haven't found every tree yet.[4][5]

How do you progress through Regions Unexplored?

3 parts

Regions Unexplored is mostly a world-generation and building mod, so the pack doesn't give it a tier ladder like a tech or magic mod. Its quest appears in the Building Tips chapter as "Painted Planks" quest, which unlocks after the Colored Blocks quest.[3]

Step one: the Painted Planks quest

The quest shows off one of the mod's handiest building features: you can paint planks the same way you dye Wool or Glass. The quest completes when you have any one colour, so you only need to craft one of them.[3]

  1. Finish the Colored Blocks quest in the Building Tips chapter to unlock "Painted Planks" quest.[3]
  2. Craft any colour of painted planks, for example Red Painted Planks, Light Blue Painted Planks or Black Painted Planks, to complete the quest.[3]

Every colour uses the same pattern with its matching dye, and any type of planks works.

The painted planks are mod recipes, so the pack hasn't changed them. Any plank in the planks tag works, so you can use up whatever wood you have lying around.[5]

Once you have painted planks, you can take them further. For example, Black Painted Planks turns into Black Painted Slab and Black Painted Stairs.[5]

6 × Black Painted Planks

Automating the wood: pack-added essence recipes

This is where All the Mods 10 changes things. The pack adds its own recipes that turn Unexplored Wood Essence into Regions Unexplored logs. Once you can farm that essence, you can make logs like Baobab Log, Redwood Log, Magnolia Log, Cobalt Log and Brimwood Log without hunting down their biomes.[5]

Tip: The same essence makes every log type, including Alpha Log, Ashen Log, Dead Log, Small Oak Log and Silver Birch Log. Check the recipe viewer to pick the exact log you want.[5]

Turning logs into building sets

Once you have logs, the mod's own recipes turn them into full wood sets. Baobab, for example, gives you Baobab Planks, plus Baobab Stairs, Baobab Slab, Baobab Door, Baobab Trapdoor, Baobab Fence, Baobab Sign, Baobab Boat and more.[5]

Crafting Shapeless

  • any baobab log

Recipe id: regions_unexplored:baobab_planks

There are some fun decorative extras too. You can craft branches like Baobab Branch from logs, swap saplings and shrubs back and forth (for example Baobab Sapling and Baobab Shrub), and make Ashen Dirt from regular dirt, Peat Dirt or Silt Dirt.[5]

How does Regions Unexplored work with other mods?

4 parts

Regions Unexplored is mostly about exploring new biomes, but this pack also connects its wood and building blocks to several other mods. Most of these links are recipes the pack added itself, so they won't show up in a standalone install of these mods. Here's how they fit into your base.[1][5]

Mystical Agriculture: grow your logs

The pack adds crafting recipes that turn Unexplored Wood Essence into Regions Unexplored logs. If you're farming essence, you don't have to travel back to a far-off biome every time you run low on a specific wood.[5]

Mekanism and Productive Trees: automated sawing

The pack also adds sawing recipes for Regions Unexplored logs, so you can automate plank production. Mekanism's sawing recipes turn each wood type's logs into its planks and also give you Sawdust.[5]

Bibliocraft furniture

If you like decorating, Bibliocraft furniture comes in Regions Unexplored wood styles. Recipes for black Alpha and Baobab furniture appear here, and the pack has changed them from their defaults. The set includes the Black Alpha Display Case, Black Alpha Seat and seat backs such as the Black Alpha Fancy Seat Back, plus Baobab versions like the Black Baobab Display Case and Black Baobab Seat.[5]

Quests: Painted Planks

The Building Tips quest chapter points you to one of this mod's building features. The "Painted Planks" quest quest comes after the Colored Blocks quest. It explains that Regions Unexplored lets you paint planks the same way you'd color Wool or Glass. Any color counts, from Red Painted Planks to Black Painted Planks, so just make whichever shade fits your build.[3]

Which All the Mods 10 quests use Regions Unexplored?

1 part

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Regions Unexplored shows up in one quest in this pack: "Painted Planks" quest, found in the Building Tips chapter. It's a small, friendly one, and it's mostly a nudge to try out the mod's painted planks.[6]

Painted Planks

The quest text points out that Regions Unexplored lets you paint planks as if they were wool or glass. It unlocks after the Colored Blocks quest, so you'll want to finish that one first.[6]

The task is an item check, and any one of the painted plank colors counts: Red Painted Planks, Orange Painted Planks, Yellow Painted Planks, Lime Painted Planks, Green Painted Planks, Cyan Painted Planks, Light Blue Painted Planks, Blue Painted Planks, Purple Painted Planks, Magenta Painted Planks, Pink Painted Planks, Brown Painted Planks, White Painted Planks, Light Gray Painted Planks, Gray Painted Planks or Black Painted Planks.[6]

Tip: Since any color works, just pick the one that matches your build. You'll be using these planks for decoration anyway.[6]

What changed in Regions Unexplored between versions?

1 part

All the Mods 10 5.0 ships Regions Unexplored 0.5.6.1, the NeoForge build for 1.21.1. The mod has been in the pack since All the Mods 10 0.32 or earlier.[2]

Mod changelog notes for 0.5.6.1

The mod's own changelogs for 0.5.6.1 list these changes:[7][8]

  • Updated to 1.21.1.[7]
  • Fixed all blocks being usable as furnace fuel.[8]
  • Fixed jar dependencies.[8]
  • Fixed potted plant loot tables.[8]
Tip: If you built a base in an earlier pack version and remember every Regions Unexplored block burning in furnaces, that bug is fixed in the version this pack ships.[2][8]
