What is ModularBees?
2 parts
ModularBees turns beekeeping into two big multiblock machines, the Modular Beehive and the Modular Centrifuge. Each one is run by a core block that controls a 3x3x3 structure. You then swap structure boxes for functional parts to upgrade the machine however you like. Neither multiblock allows shared blocks, so give each one its own space.[1][2]
The beehive is all about raw output. It has a built-in simulate upgrade, so your bees never leave the hive. To save performance they don't breed or do in-world transformation recipes inside it. Instead, with upgrades, they produce combs and honey at incredible speed.[1]
What you'll be building
- The core can't hold bees itself, so Alvearies house them. Each Alveary holds 5 bees, and you move bees in and out by right-clicking it with bee cages.[3]
- The Modular Feeder is the only place your hive bees look for flowers. It holds 9 types of flowers, and if a bee needs a fluid flower you can put in a bucket or tank of that fluid.[4]
- The Beehive Overclocker uses energy and electrodes to speed up your bees. The Beehive Treater feeds them extra food so they make more combs. Multiple copies of either part stack additively.[5][6]
- The Modular Centrifuge supports all centrifuge upgrades and has the same 15s base process time as a basic centrifuge. Gearboxes add parallel processing. A Heater makes it work 3 times faster and lets it process comb blocks.[2][7][8]
- Import and export hatches handle automation. They pull combs from a chest or tank they face and send products, items and fluids out to a chest or tank they face.[9][10][11]
- The Modular Dragon Hive is a special hive that collects dragon breath from draconic bees.[12]
Who it's for
This mod is for you if you want an upgradeable bee setup that pumps out combs and honey without bees flying around your base. Check the Book of Modular Bees, the mod's in-game guide, for details on every part.[1][13]
This pack includes ModularBees version 1.21.1-2.0 for NeoForge.[14]
Unverified The sources don't show where ModularBees fits in the pack's progression, and no quests in the pack cover it.
How do you get started with ModularBees?
8 parts
The heart of this mod is the Modular Beehive. It's the controller of a 3x3x3 cube multiblock, and you can swap any Beehive Structure Box in that cube for a functional part to improve the hive. One thing to keep in mind: a Modular Beehive doesn't allow shared blocks.[1]
Why bother? The hive has a built-in simulate upgrade, so bees won't come out of the hive. They also won't breed or do in-world transformation recipes inside it, which saves performance. In exchange, with upgrades they produce combs and honey at incredible speed.[1]
Step 1: Scented Plank
Start with Scented Plank. You need it to craft both the Beehive Structure Box and the Modular Beehive itself, so make a good stack.[15]

Beehive Structure Boxes
The Beehive Structure Box is the filler block of your 3x3x3 cube. It's also the base for almost every functional part, including the Alveary, Feeder, Export Hatch, Treater and Overclocker, so you'll keep crafting these.[1][15]

Step 4: Modular Alveary
The core can't hold bees itself, so you need at least one Modular Alveary. Every Alveary holds 5 bees. You put bees in with bee cages, and you can right-click the Alveary with bee cages to insert or extract them.[3]

Where to go next
Once your hive runs, look at speed and output upgrades. The Beehive Treater feeds your bees extra food so they make more combs, and multiple Treaters stack additively. The Beehive Overclocker makes bees work faster, but it needs energy and an Electrode.[5][6]

Electrodes come in four tiers: Copper Electrode, Iron Electrode, Gold Electrode and Netherite Electrode. Check JEI or the tooltip to see each electrode's speed boost. Note that this pack changed the Netherite Electrode to a smithing recipe, so the recipe blocks below are the ones to follow.[5][15]

Processing the combs
All those combs need processing, and the Modular Centrifuge is the controller of a second multiblock: a 3x3x3 structure with four corners at the bottom layer. Just like the hive, you can replace any Centrifuge Structure Box with a functional part to improve it, and it doesn't allow shared blocks. Its base process time is the same as a basic centrifuge (15s), and it supports all centrifuge upgrades, with speed upgrades shortening the process time and productivity upgrades increasing parallel.[2][16]

How does ModularBees work?
7 parts
Everything in this mod revolves around two multiblocks: the Modular Beehive, which makes combs and honey, and the Modular Centrifuge, which processes them. Each one is a 3x3x3 structure built around a controller block. You customise it by swapping plain structure blocks for functional parts.[1][2]
The Modular Beehive
The Modular Beehive is the controller of a 3x3x3 cube. You can replace any Beehive Structure Box in that cube with a functional part to improve the hive. Modular Beehives don't allow shared blocks, so every hive needs its own structure.[1]
The hive has a built-in simulate upgrade, so your bees never fly out. To save performance, bees inside won't breed or do in-world transformation recipes. Instead they focus on producing combs and honey, and with upgrades they do it at incredible speed.[1]

Speeding up the beehive
The Beehive Overclocker makes your bees produce even faster. It needs energy and an Electrode to work, and better Electrodes give a bigger speed boost. Boosts from multiple Overclockers are additive, so two Netherite Electrodes (x5 each) make your bees work x10 faster.[5]
Electrodes come in four tiers. You can check each one's boost in JEI or in its tooltip, which shows the speed multiplier it gives.[5][17]
In the beehive, Electrodes take more damage the more bees are in the hive. The guide gives the formula floor[(x/15+1)*(1.03^x)], where x is the number of bees. A packed hive therefore wears Electrodes down much faster than a small one.[5]

Boosting comb output with treats
The Beehive Treater gives your bees extra food, which makes them produce more combs. Boosts from multiple Treaters are additive. JEI lists which foods are valid and what boost each one gives.[6]
Unlike the Overclocker, the Treater only uses up food when bees finish collecting nectar. Every bee needs its own food supply, though, and the boost gets weaker if there isn't enough food for all of them. Leftovers are sent to the output inventory.[6]

Unverified The mod has craftable treats such as the Royal Treat and the Ender Treat, but the sources don't confirm whether they work in the Beehive Treater or what boost they give. Check JEI in-game. This site does hold All the Mods 10's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
Modular Dragon Hive
The Modular Dragon Hive is a special hive for collecting dragon breath from draconic bees.[12]
The mod also adds a Dragon Breath Bucket, which has its own crafting recipe.[15]
The Modular Centrifuge
The Modular Centrifuge controls the Modular Centrifuge. The in-game guide describes it as a 3x3x3 structure with four corners at the bottom layer, so check the guide for the exact layout. As with the hive, you can replace structure blocks (Centrifuge Structure Wall) with functional parts, and shared blocks aren't allowed.[2]
The Modular Centrifuge supports all centrifuge upgrades. Speed upgrades shorten the process time, and productivity upgrades increase parallel processing. The base process time is the same as the basic centrifuge: 15 seconds.[2]

The Centrifuge Overclocker speeds up the centrifuge. Like the beehive version, it needs energy and an Electrode, and better Electrodes give a bigger boost. Boosts from multiple Overclockers are additive, so two Netherite Electrodes (x5 each) make the centrifuge work x10 faster.[18]
Electrode wear works differently here. In the beehive, damage scales with how many bees you have. In the centrifuge, Electrodes always lose 1 durability every work tick.[5][18]

Unverified The sources don't document how much energy the Overclockers or the Centrifuge Heater use, or which energy types they accept.
How do you progress through ModularBees?
7 parts
ModularBees gives you two big multiblocks: the Modular Beehive for making combs and the Modular Centrifuge for processing them. Both start as plain 3x3x3 structures, and you upgrade them by swapping structure blocks for functional parts.[1][2]
Step 1: Scented Planks and Structure Boxes
The whole beehive side starts with the Scented Plank, which you turn into the Beehive Structure Box. That Structure Box is the base for almost every hive part: the Alveary, Feeder, Overclocker, Treater, Export Hatch and Dragon Hive.[15]

Step 2: Building the Modular Beehive
The Modular Beehive is the controller of a 3x3x3 cube. You can replace any Structure Box with a functional part, but the multiblock can't share blocks with another hive. The hive has a built-in simulate upgrade, so your bees never leave it. Bees inside also won't breed or do in-world transformation recipes. In exchange, they make combs and honey very quickly once you add upgrades.[1]

Electrode tiers
There are four Electrode tiers, and each one is made from the tier below it. You can check each tier's boost in JEI or in the item tooltip.[5][15]
- Copper Electrode: This is the starting tier and uses a recipe added by the pack.[5][15]
- Iron Electrode: This is crafted from a Copper Electrode.[15]
- Gold Electrode: This is crafted from an Iron Electrode.[15]
- Netherite Electrode: This is a smithing upgrade of the Gold Electrode, and the pack changed its recipe. It gives a x5 boost, so two of them in separate Overclockers make things work x10 faster.[5][15][18]

The treats also form a chain. First, make Honey Jelly in a centrifuge. Honey Jelly goes into the Royal Treat. The Ender Treat uses both Honey Jelly and a Royal Treat, and the Soul Treat combines an Ender Treat and a Royal Treat. Check each treat's boost in JEI before you commit to one.[6][15]
The Modular Dragon Hive
The Modular Dragon Hive is a special hive that collects dragon breath from draconic bees. You craft it from a Beehive Structure Box. There's also a shapeless recipe for the Dragon Breath Bucket.[12][15]
The Modular Centrifuge
The centrifuge side uses the mod's own recipes. The Modular Centrifuge controls a 3x3x3 multiblock built from Centrifuge Structure Wall blocks, and like the hive it can't share blocks. It accepts all centrifuge upgrades: speed upgrades shorten the process time and productivity upgrades increase parallel processing. The base process time is 15s, the same as a basic centrifuge.[2][15]

How does ModularBees work with other mods?
4 parts
ModularBees is built on top of Productive Bees. Almost every ModularBees recipe in this pack pulls in items from Productive Bees or its companion library ProductiveLib, so you'll want your Productive Bees setup running before you start building these multiblocks.[15]
Modular Beehive parts
This pack adds its own recipes for three key beehive pieces: the Modular Beehive, the Modular Feeder and the Beehive Overclocker. Two of these, the core and the overclocker, use ProductiveLib upgrade items such as Upgrade Productivity 4. Check the recipe blocks below for the exact in-pack recipes.[15]

Dragon Hive and treats
The Modular Dragon Hive is made from a Productive Bees Dragon Egg Hive. It's a special hive for collecting dragon breath from draconic bees.[12][15]
The treat line also leans on Productive Bees. The Royal Treat builds on the Productive Bees Honey Treat, and the Ender Treat needs a Royal Treat plus a Productive Bees Draconic Chunk.[15]
Unverified Whether these treats are valid food for the Beehive Treater, and how big a boost they give, isn't confirmed here. The in-game guide says to check JEI for valid foods and their boosts. This site does hold All the Mods 10's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
Guide book
The ModularBees guide is a Patchouli Guide Book, and this pack has changed its recipe. It's worth grabbing early, since it covers all the multiblock parts.[13][15]

What changed in ModularBees between versions?
ModularBees has been part of All the Mods 10 for a few releases now, and it has picked up a couple of version bumps along the way. Here's how it got to where it is in 4.15.[19][20][21]
- All the Mods 10 4.12: ModularBees was added to the pack at version 1.21.1-1.0-neoforge.[21]
- All the Mods 10 4.13: ModularBees was updated from 1.21.1-1.0-neoforge to 1.21.1-1.4-neoforge.[20]
- All the Mods 10 4.15: ModularBees was updated from 1.21.1-1.4-neoforge to 1.21.1-2.0-neoforge.[19]
So if you're playing 4.15, you're on ModularBees 1.21.1-2.0-neoforge, shipped as the file ModularBees-1.21.1-2.0-neoforge.jar.[14]
Unverified The jump from 1.4 to 2.0 looks like a major version bump, which can sometimes mean bigger changes to machines, recipes or bee setups. The mod's own changelog for these versions wasn't available, so what actually changed in 2.0 (or in 1.4) is unverified. If you're carrying a hive setup over from an older pack version, check it still works after updating.
