What is ModularBees?
1 part
ModularBees is a bee mod built around the Modular Beehive, a configurable multiblock hive. The pack includes version 1.21.1-1.0 for NeoForge, so everything below describes that version.[1]
The Modular Beehive Core is the controller. It forms a 3x3x3 cube, and you can swap any Beehive Structure Box for a functional part to upgrade the hive. The hive doesn't allow shared blocks, so each one needs its own structure.[2]
The hive has a built-in simulate upgrade, so your bees never fly out. To save performance, bees inside don't breed or do in-world transformation recipes. Instead, with upgrades, they produce combs and honey at incredible speed. That makes it a good fit if you want bee production without a sprawling apiary.[2]
The main parts
- Modular Alveary: the core hive can't hold bees, so the Alveary houses them. Each one holds 5 bees, and you load them with bee cages.[2][3]
- Modular Feeder: bees in the Modular Beehive only look for flowers here. It holds 9 types of flowers, and for bees that need a fluid flower you can supply a bucket or tank with that fluid.[4]
- Beehive Overclocker: speeds up your bees. It needs energy and an Electrode, and better Electrodes give a higher boost.[5]
- Beehive Treater: gives bees extra food so they produce more combs. Valid foods and their boosts are listed in JEI.[6]
- Beehive Export Hatch: a proxy of the core block for logistics. It can automatically send products and honey to the chest or tank it faces.[7]
- Modular Dragon Hive: a special hive for collecting dragon breath from draconic bees.[8]
The mod also adds the Book of Modular Bees, which is there to teach you how to design your own modular hive.[9]
Unverified Where ModularBees fits in the pack's progression, including whether it connects to the ATM Star path or any quests, is not confirmed by the available sources.
How do you get started with ModularBees?
6 parts
ModularBees turns bee farming into a compact multiblock. Bees live inside it and pump out combs and honey without ever leaving the hive. Here is the order I'd build things in this pack, and why.[2]
Scented Plank and Beehive Structure Box
Start with the Scented Plank. It's the base material for the whole mod, and both the structure box and the hive core use it.[10]
Crafting Shaped

Recipe id: modularbees:scented_plank
Next, make the Beehive Structure Box. The hive is a 3x3x3 cube, and you can swap any structure box for a functional part later. Most of the parts below are crafted from one of these boxes, so make a few.[2][10]

The Modular Beehive core
The Modular Beehive is the controller of the multiblock. It has a built-in simulate upgrade, so bees never leave the hive. They also don't breed or do in-world transformation recipes inside it. Instead they produce combs and honey at incredible speed once you add upgrades. Shared blocks aren't allowed, so give each hive its own structure.[2]

This recipe also needs items from other mods, so check the ingredients before you gather materials.
Housing and feeding your bees
The core can't hold bees itself. You need a Modular Alveary, which holds 5 bees. Use bee cages to move bees into it.[3]

Bees in a modular hive only look for flowers in a Modular Feeder. It holds 9 types of flowers. If a bee needs a fluid flower, put in a bucket or tank holding that fluid.[4]
Getting the output out
The Beehive Export Hatch acts as a proxy of the core for logistics. It automatically sends products and honey to the chest or tank it faces, so you don't have to empty the hive by hand.[7]

Speeding things up
The Beehive Overclocker makes your bees produce faster. It needs energy and an electrode to work, and better electrodes give a bigger boost. Copper gives x1.8, iron x3, gold x8 and netherite x25. Multiple overclockers add together, so two Netherite Electrode electrodes give x50.[5]

The Beehive Treater feeds your bees extra food so they make more combs. Multiple treaters add together, and you can see valid foods and their boosts in JEI. It only uses food when a bee finishes collecting nectar. Every bee needs food, though, and the boost weakens if there isn't enough for all of them. Leftovers go to the output inventory.[6]

Optional: dragon breath
If you're working with draconic bees, the Modular Dragon Hive is the special hive for collecting dragon breath from them.[8]
This makes a Dragon Breath Bucket.
How does ModularBees work?
6 parts
The heart of this mod is the Modular Beehive. It's the controller of a 3x3x3 cube multiblock. Out of the box the cube is built from Beehive Structure Box blocks, and you can swap any of them for a functional part to upgrade the hive. The Modular Beehive doesn't allow shared blocks, so each hive needs its own structure.[2]

How the hive simulates bees
The Modular Beehive has a built-in simulate upgrade, so bees won't come out of the hive. To save performance, bees inside it don't breed and don't do in-world transformation recipes. Instead they produce combs and honey at incredible speed once you add upgrades.[2]
Housing your bees
The core hive can't hold bees by itself, so you need a Modular Alveary. Each Alveary holds 5 bees, and you load them using bee cages.[3]

Functional parts
- Modular Feeder: bees in a Modular Beehive only look for flowers here, and it holds 9 types of flowers. If a bee needs a fluid flower, put in a bucket or tank containing that fluid.[4]
- Beehive Overclocker: makes your bees produce faster. It needs energy and an electrode to work.[5]
- Beehive Treater: gives bees extra food so they produce more combs.[6]
- Beehive Export Hatch: a proxy of the core block for logistics. It automatically sends products and honey to the chest or tank it faces.[7]
Overclocker and electrodes
The electrode you put in the Overclocker sets the speed boost. There are four tiers: Copper Electrode gives x1.8, Iron Electrode gives x3, Gold Electrode gives x8 and Netherite Electrode gives x25.[5][10]
Boosts from multiple Overclockers are additive. For example, two Netherite Electrodes (x25 each) make bees work x50 faster.[5]

The Netherite Electrode is a smithing recipe, and the pack has changed it from the mod's version. Check the recipe below for the exact in-pack ingredients.[10]

Treater food supply
Like Overclockers, multiple Treaters add their production boosts together. You can look up valid foods and their boost values in JEI.[6]
The Treater only consumes food when bees finish collecting nectar. Every bee needs a food supply, though, and the boost weakens if the food can't feed every bee. Leftovers are sent to the output inventory.[6]

Dragon Hive
The Modular Dragon Hive is a special hive for collecting dragon breath from draconic bees.[8]
How do you progress through ModularBees?
5 parts
Progression in ModularBees is about building a multiblock hive and then adding upgrades to it. You start with a Scented Plank, turn it into structure pieces, build the Modular Beehive, and finish with overclocker electrodes that scale from Copper to Netherite.[2][5][10]
Unverified The sources here show no quest-book steps for this mod, so there is no quest order to follow. The tiers below follow the in-pack recipes and the in-game guide entries. This site does hold All the Mods 10's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
The foundation
Everything begins with the Scented Plank. It is used in the recipes for both the Beehive Structure Box (the Beehive Structure Box) and the Modular Beehive core.[10]

Functional parts
Once the hive is running, you replace Structure Boxes with parts that handle feeding, logistics and production. Each part has its own recipe, and each one is crafted from a Beehive Structure Box.[2][10]
- Modular Feeder: bees in a Modular Beehive only look for flowers in the feeder, which can hold 9 types of flowers. If a bee needs a fluid flower, put in a bucket or tank containing that fluid.[4]
- Beehive Export Hatch: a proxy of the core block for logistics. It can auto send products and honey to the chest or tank it faces.[7]
- Beehive Treater: provides extra food to bees, which makes them produce more combs. Multiple treaters stack additively, and valid foods and their boosts are listed in JEI. It only consumes food when bees complete collecting nectar, but every bee needs food supply or the boost weakens. The remains are sent to the output inventory.[6]
- Beehive Overclocker: makes your bees produce faster. It needs energy and an electrode to work, and the electrode tiers are covered below.[5]

How does ModularBees work with other mods?
4 parts
ModularBees is built on top of Productive Bees and Productive Lib. In this pack, the recipes that connect it to other mods all come from the pack's recipe data. They show you what to gather before you start building a Modular Beehive.[10]
Everything starts with the Scented Plank
The Scented Plank is the base material for several ModularBees recipes. Its recipe uses Wax from Productive Bees together with a honey block and any vanilla planks, so you need a working Productive Bees setup before you can make it.[10]

Modular Beehive and Productive Lib upgrades
The Modular Beehive is the controller of the multiblock. Productive Lib is the other mod involved here: its Upgrade Adult and Upgrade Simulator items show up in the recipe below, next to a hive from the Productive Bees advanced beehives tag. The in-game guide says the Modular Beehive has a built-in simulate upgrade, so bees stay inside instead of leaving the hive.[2][10]

Parts made from Productive Bees blocks
Some functional parts are made by combining a Beehive Structure Box with a Productive Bees block. You can swap a Beehive Structure Box for a functional part to improve the beehive.[2][10]
- The Modular Dragon Hive uses the Dragon Egg Hive. The in-game guide describes it as the special hive for collecting dragon breath from draconic bees.[8][10]
- The Modular Feeder uses the Feeding Slab. Bees in a Modular Beehive only look for flowers in the Modular Feeder, which can hold 9 types of flowers.[4][10]
The guide book recipe is changed by the pack
The recipe for the Guide Book is marked as changed by the pack, and it is where the vanilla Book meets ModularBees material. If you expect the default recipe from the mod, check the one below instead.[10]
Unverified No quests involving ModularBees were found in the sources for this pack, so there are no quest-based integrations to list.
What changed in ModularBees between versions?
There's not much history to cover yet. The All the Mods 10 4.12 changelog lists ModularBees 1.21.1-1.0-neoforge as newly added in that release.[11]
The 4.12 mod list shows the same version, 1.21.1-1.0-neoforge, shipped as the file ModularBees-1.21.1-1.0-neoforge.jar. It also notes that the mod was first included in 4.12 or earlier.[1]
Unverified The mod's own changelogs for the jar shipped in this pack aren't available, so I can't say what changed inside ModularBees itself. Any recipe or config changes the pack makes to it are also unconfirmed here.
