What is Industrial Foregoing: Souls?

2 parts

Industrial Foregoing: Souls is an add-on for Industrial Foregoing that turns Warden souls into a machine accelerator. You pull souls out of a Warden, store them, and then spend them to make the machines you point at run faster. This pack includes version 1.10.3, and the mod has been in the pack since All the Mods 10 1.1 or earlier.[1][2]

How it works

  1. Extract souls from a Warden using a Soul Laser Base fitted with a Blue Lens. Don't forget the lens, because the base won't extract without one. The Stasis Chamber is the recommended helper for holding the Warden.[1]
  2. Place a Soul Surge pointing at the block you want to accelerate.[1]
  3. Connect the Soul Surge to the Soul Laser Base with Soul Pipes, so the stored souls can reach it.[1]
  4. If you ever want to pause the acceleration, apply a redstone signal to the Soul Surge.[1]

What you get out of it

By default, each soul lasts 15 seconds and makes the target machine 4 times faster. The mod's config can change this, and the default Soul Surge settings are 300 ticks of soul time and 4 extra accelerated ticks.[1]

The Soul Laser Base defaults are a soul tank of 1,350, 3 souls per operation, and 4 damage dealt to the Warden per operation. By default the Warden is kept alive rather than killed. These are the mod's defaults, and the sources don't show whether this pack changes them.[1]

The mod also adds a way to get more Echo Shards, which it uses a lot. If there is a block you never want sped up, add it to the block tag industrialforegoingsouls:cant_accelerate.[1]

Unverified The sources don't place this mod on the ATM Star path or tie it to any quest, and no in-jar guidebook was found, so its exact place in the pack's progression is unconfirmed. It is best treated as an optional upgrade for your machine setups.

How do you get started with Industrial Foregoing: Souls?

Same as in the All the Mods 10 3.2 guide

This mod turns a Warden into fuel for your machines. You pull souls out of a Warden, store them, then pipe them to a block that uses them to speed up whatever it points at. There are only three blocks to make, and it's easiest to build them in this order.[1]

Step 1: The Soul Laser Base

Start with the Soul Laser Base. This is the block that extracts souls from a Warden and stores them, so nothing else in the mod works until you have one running.[1]

The Laser Base needs a Blue Lens to pull souls from a Warden. The Stasis Chamber is a big help for keeping the Warden in place while the laser works on it.[1]

Watch out: Don't forget to add the lens! Without a Blue Lens in the Soul Laser Base, you won't collect any souls.[1]

Step 2: Soul Pipes

Once you have souls stored, you need a way to move them. Soul Pipe connects the Soul Laser Base to the block that spends the souls, so make enough to cover the distance between your Warden setup and your machines.[1]

Step 3: The Soul Surge

The Soul Surge is where the fun happens. Place it pointing at the block you want to speed up, then connect it to your Soul Laser Base with Soul Pipes.[1]

By default, each soul lasts 15 seconds and makes the target machine 4 times faster. Both of these values can be changed in the config.[1]

Unverified The provided sources only show the mod's default soul duration and speed boost. It isn't confirmed whether this pack keeps those defaults or changes them.

Useful things to know early

  • Want to pause the boost? Send a redstone signal to the Soul Surge and it stops working.[1]
  • You can stop specific blocks from being accelerated by adding them to the block tag industrialforegoingsouls:cant_accelerate.[1]
  • Echo Shard shows up in both the Soul Pipe and Soul Surge recipes, and the mod uses Echo Shards a lot. Plan on gathering a good stack of them.[1][3]

Unverified The mod also adds a way to get more Echo Shards, but the provided sources don't explain how it works. They also don't confirm whether the Soul Laser Base kills the Warden or keeps it alive in this pack.

How does Industrial Foregoing: Souls work?

5 parts

Industrial Foregoing: Souls is a small add-on with one core loop: pull souls out of a Warden, store them, and burn them to speed up the block you point at. It only has three machines and blocks, so the whole system is easy to hold in your head.[1]

The soul loop

  1. Set up a Soul Laser Base with a Blue Lens so it can extract souls from a Warden. Don't forget the lens! The project page also points you to the Stasis Chamber from Industrial Foregoing as the helper for this job.[1]
  2. Let the Soul Laser Base fill up with souls.[1]
  3. Place a Soul Surge pointing at the block you want to accelerate.[1]
  4. Connect the Soul Surge to the Soul Laser Base with Soul Pipe.[1]

To switch a Soul Surge off, give it a redstone signal. That's handy when you don't want to burn souls on a machine that is idle.[1]

Soul Laser Base

The base is the soul generator and tank. In this pack each completed operation generates 2 souls (IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulLaserBase.SOULS_PER_OPERATION) and deals 4 damage to the Warden (IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulLaserBase.DAMAGE_PER_OPERATION). The tank holds up to 1,350 (IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulLaserBase.SOUL_STORAGE_AMOUNT). Its max progress value is 20 (IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulLaserBase.MAX_PROGRESS), which is all the config says about it.[4]

The project page's sample config shows 3 souls per operation, but this pack's config file sets 2, so go with 2 here.[1][4]

IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulLaserBase.KILL_WARDEN is false in this pack. Going by the option's description, the Warden is kept alive instead of being killed as its health nears 0.[4]

Soul Pipes

Each pipe can hold 4 souls (IFSoulsMachines.SOUL_AMOUNT_PER_PIPE). The only pipe setting on the client side is how many particles they spawn, which is 0.1 here, or 10%, on a scale from 0.0 to 1.0 (IFSoulsClient.SOUL_PIPES_PARTICLES). Turn it down if the effects bother you.[4][5]

Soul Surge and acceleration

Each soul lasts 15 seconds and makes the target 4 times faster by default. The pack's duration is 300 ticks (IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulSurge.SOUL_TIME).[1][4]

The extra ticks are set separately for each kind of target, and in this pack all three are 4:[4]

Random-tick blocks, such as crops, are accelerated on only 3% of ticks by default, and this pack keeps that value (IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulSurge.RANDOM_TICK_ACCELERATION_CHANCE).[4]

Tip: If a block must never be sped up, add it to the block tag industrialforegoingsouls:cant_accelerate.[1]

Unverified The sources don't explain how to craft the Blue Lens, how the Stasis Chamber has to be set up for a Warden, how fast a Surge drains souls from the network, or how the mod gives you more Echo Shards (the project page only says it adds a way).

How do you progress through Industrial Foregoing: Souls?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 3.2 guide

This mod has a small crafting footprint in the pack. Only three items are crafted directly: the Soul Laser Base, the Soul Pipe and the Soul Surge. All three are shaped recipes you make in a regular crafting table.[3]

All three recipes are the mod's own recipes, so the pack does not change how you craft these items.[3]

Soul Laser Base

The Soul Laser Base builds on Industrial Foregoing parts, including one of its advanced machine frames. Get your main Industrial Foregoing setup running before you work toward it.[3]

Soul Pipe and Soul Surge

The Soul Pipe and the Soul Surge share a lot of their ingredients, so once you can make one, the other is close behind.[3]

How does Industrial Foregoing: Souls work with other mods?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 3.2 guide

This mod is built to boost machines rather than add a big standalone tech line. You extract souls from a Warden with a Soul Laser Base fitted with a Blue Lens. You then pipe those souls with Soul Pipes into a Soul Surge that points at the block you want to speed up. The mod page also says the Stasis Chamber "will be your friend" here, which helps you keep the Warden in place while you harvest it.[1]

Speeding up other blocks

The Soul Surge accelerates whatever block it's aimed at, so it can speed up machines rather than only this mod's own blocks. If you want the Surge to stop, give it a redstone signal. That's handy when it's pointed at a machine you only want running fast some of the time.[1]

Tip: Some blocks can be blocked from acceleration by adding them to the industrialforegoingsouls:cant_accelerate block tag. If a machine doesn't respond to your Soul Surge, check whether it's in that tag.[1]

Warden and Echo Shards

The mod relies on the Warden as its soul source and uses Echo Shards heavily. To keep up with demand, it adds its own way to get more Echo Shards, so you aren't stuck relying only on Ancient City loot.[1]

Unverified There are no confirmed in-pack recipes or quests that combine this mod's items with items from other mods. It's also not confirmed which specific machines from other mods in this pack are in the cant_accelerate tag, or how well they respond to the Soul Surge. Test it in your own world before building around it.

Which Industrial Foregoing: Souls config options matter?

3 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Good news: this addon is pretty light on config. Everything lives in two files, a machines file and a client file. In this pack, the values the files report are the same as the mod defaults they list, with one thing to double-check on the Soul Laser Base (see below).[6][7]

Soul Laser Base (soul production)

Unverified The pack's config file lists the mod default for souls per operation as 2, but the mod's project page shows a default config with 3. I can't confirm which is correct, so I can't say whether the pack changed this value. What I can confirm is that the pack uses 2.

Soul Surge (acceleration)

The Soul Surge speeds up whatever it points at. The mod page says each soul lasts 15 seconds and makes the machine 4 times faster by default. The pack's settings below all match the mod defaults it lists.[1][7]

Pipes and visuals

IFSoulsMachines.SOUL_AMOUNT_PER_PIPE is 4, which is how many souls each pipe can hold.[7]

If your soul pipe runs look too busy, or you want them busier, IFSoulsClient.SOUL_PIPES_PARTICLES is the option to change. It is set to 0.1 here, on a scale from 0.0 (0%) to 1.0 (100%).[6]

Tip: Config values aren't the only way to control acceleration. You can stop a block from being accelerated by adding it to the block tag industrialforegoingsouls:cant_accelerate.[1]

What changed in Industrial Foregoing: Souls between versions?

All the Mods 10 2.12 ships Industrial Foregoing: Souls 1.10.3. The mod has been in the pack since All the Mods 10 1.1 or earlier, so it isn't a recent addition.[2]

The mod's own changelog has entries for 1.10.0, 1.10.1, 1.10.2 and 1.10.3, so those are the releases leading up to the version you have in the pack.[8][9][10][11]

Unverified The details of what changed in each of those releases could not be confirmed from the sources I had, and there are no pack changelog entries for this mod. Check the mod's changelog directly before relying on any specific change.
