What is Industrial Foregoing: Souls?
3 parts
Industrial Foregoing: Souls is an add-on for Industrial Foregoing. It uses souls extracted from Wardens to accelerate your machines, so if you want a machine to run faster, this is the mod for it.[1]
How it works
- Extract souls from a Warden with a Soul Laser Base fitted with a Blue Lens. The Stasis Chamber is a big help here.[1]
- Place a Soul Surge pointing at the block you want to accelerate.[1]
- Connect the Soul Surge to the Soul Laser Base using Soul Pipe.[1]
Numbers and tweaks
Each soul lasts 15 seconds and makes the machine 4 times faster by default. These are the mod's defaults and its config can change them.[1]
If there is a block you never want accelerated, add it to the block tag industrialforegoingsouls:cant_accelerate. The mod also adds a way to get more Echo Shards, since it uses quite a few of them.[1]
Where it fits in the pack
This pack includes version 1.10.7 of the mod. Its quests sit in the technology chapter. "Soul Laser Base" quest asks you to obtain the Soul Laser Base, the Laser Drill and the Blue Laser Lens, and it comes after another quest in the same chapter. "Transporting Souls" quest follows it and asks for the Soul Surge and the Soul Pipe, so the quests walk you through the same setup described above.[2][3]
Unverified Whether the ATM Star path uses this mod is not shown by the sources here, and no in-jar guidebook was found for it.
How do you get started with Industrial Foregoing: Souls?
3 parts
Industrial Foregoing: Souls lets you pull souls out of a Warden and use them to speed up your machines. Everything you do early on works toward that loop: get souls, store them, then pipe them to a machine.[1]
Your first steps, in order
- Get the Soul Laser Base. This is the machine that extracts souls from a Warden, and it's the heart of the setup. The pack's technology quest "Soul Laser Base" quest asks you to have it along with the Laser Drill and the Blue Laser Lens.[1][3]
- Add a Blue Lens to the Soul Laser Base. Without a lens it can't extract souls, so don't skip this. The Stasis Chamber is a helpful companion for dealing with the Warden.[1]
- Craft a Soul Surge and some Soul Pipe. The follow-up quest "Transporting Souls" quest asks for exactly these two items.[3]
- Place the Soul Surge pointing at the block you want to accelerate, then connect it to the Soul Laser Base with Soul Pipes. Once the base has stored some souls, the machine gets sped up.[1]
The two crafts you can make
The pack changed both of these recipes, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's default recipes. Here is the Soul Surge exactly as it works in this pack:[4]

What to expect
By the mod's defaults, each soul lasts 15 seconds and makes the machine 4 times faster. A redstone signal on the Soul Surge stops it, which is handy when you want to save your souls.[1]
The mod also adds a way to get more Echo Shards, because the mod uses a lot of them. That matters here, since both recipes above need one.[1][4]
Unverified The in-pack recipe for the Soul Laser Base, and the exact method for getting extra Echo Shards, are not confirmed by the available sources. Check the recipe viewer in-game. This site does hold FTB StoneBlock 4's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
How does Industrial Foregoing: Souls work?
3 parts
Industrial Foregoing: Souls works on a simple loop: you pull souls out of a Warden, send them down pipes, and spend them to make other machines run faster. Here is how each part works in this pack.[1]
Getting souls
Souls come from a Warden, extracted with a Soul Laser Base that has a Blue Lens installed. The mod's page points to the Stasis Chamber as the helper for holding the Warden.[1][5]
This pack uses these Soul Laser Base values. The tank holds up to 1,350 souls (IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulLaserBase.SOUL_STORAGE_AMOUNT). Each finished operation generates 2 souls (IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulLaserBase.SOULS_PER_OPERATION). The machine's max progress is 20 (IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulLaserBase.MAX_PROGRESS).[6]
Every operation also hurts the Warden for 4 damage (IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulLaserBase.DAMAGE_PER_OPERATION). The option that decides whether the Warden dies as its life nears 0 is set to false here (IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulLaserBase.KILL_WARDEN), so the laser keeps it alive instead of killing it.[6]
Moving souls with pipes
Soul Pipe carries the souls from the Soul Laser Base to the Soul Surge. Each pipe can hold 4 souls in this pack (IFSoulsMachines.SOUL_AMOUNT_PER_PIPE).[1][5][6]

The pack changed this recipe, and one craft makes 8 pipes.
Speeding up machines with the Soul Surge
- Place a Soul Surge so it points at the block you want to accelerate.[1]
- Connect the Soul Surge to the Soul Laser Base with Soul Pipes.[1]
- Apply a redstone signal to the Soul Surge whenever you want it to stop working.[1]

The pack changed this recipe too.
Each soul lasts 15 seconds, which matches the pack's value of 300 ticks (IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulSurge.SOUL_TIME). By default it makes the target machine 4 times faster.[1][6]
The extra ticks depend on what the surge is pointing at. All of these are set to the values below in this pack:[6]
- Tile entities get 4 extra ticks (IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulSurge.ACCELERATION_TICK).[6]
- Blocks get 4 extra ticks (IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulSurge.BLOCK_ACCELERATION_TICK).[6]
- Mobs get 4 extra ticks (IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulSurge.ENTITIES_ACCELERATION_TICK).[6]
- Random tick blocks are accelerated with a chance of 0.03, so about 3% of the ticks (IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulSurge.RANDOM_TICK_ACCELERATION_CHANCE).[6]
The mod also adds a way to get more Echo Shards, since it uses quite a lot of them.[1]
How do you progress through Industrial Foregoing: Souls?
2 parts
Industrial Foregoing: Souls has a short progression path in this pack. It follows two quests in the technology chapter, and the sources show no further tiers, so this section stays brief.[3]
Step 1: the Soul Laser Base
Quest "Soul Laser Base" quest is where the mod starts. It asks you to have a Soul Laser Base, a Laser Drill and a Blue Laser Lens. It unlocks after an earlier quest in the same chapter.[3]
Step 2: Soul Surge and Soul Pipe
Quest "Transporting Souls" quest comes right after the first one. It asks for a Soul Surge and a Soul Pipe.[3]
The pack changed both of these recipes from the mod's defaults, so don't rely on recipes you remember from other packs. Here are the in-pack versions.[4]

How does Industrial Foregoing: Souls work with other mods?
3 parts
Industrial Foregoing: Souls is a side system built on top of Industrial Foregoing, and this pack ties it into a few other mods. The links below come from the pack's recipes and quests.[1][3][4]
Industrial Foregoing quest line
In the technology quest chapter, one quest asks for the Soul Laser Base together with the Industrial Foregoing laser drill and blue laser lens. That fits the mod's own setup, because the Soul Laser Base needs a Blue Lens to pull souls out of a Warden.[1][3]
Quest "Transporting Souls" quest comes right after quest "Soul Laser Base" quest. It asks for the Soul Surge and the Soul Pipe. These are the parts that carry souls from the base to the machine you want to speed up.[1][3]
Soul Laser Base and the Supreme Machine Frame
The pack adds its own custom machine recipe for the Soul Laser Base, and it pulls in the Supreme Machine Frame from Industrial Foregoing. Here is the recipe as the pack defines it:[4]
Custom Machine (custommachinery)
Recipe id: ftb:world_engine/soul_laser_base
Added by the pack as a custom machine recipe.
Soul Upgrade
The Soul Upgrade connects to this mod through the Soul Surge. The pack changed this recipe, so use the version below rather than what you remember from other packs.[4]

Which FTB StoneBlock 4 quests use Industrial Foregoing: Souls?
In this pack, the Industrial Foregoing: Souls quests sit in the technology chapter. There are two of them, and they run in sequence, so you do them in this order.[3]
- "Soul Laser Base" quest asks you to have a Soul Laser Base, an Laser Drill and a Blue Laser Lens. It unlocks after an earlier quest in the same chapter.[3]
- "Transporting Souls" quest comes right after that one. It asks for a Soul Surge and a Soul Pipe.[3]
Both quests are untitled in the quest file, so you will only see them by their position in the technology chapter. The first one mixes the Souls add-on with items from the base Industrial Foregoing mod, so get the laser setup going before you move on to the soul pipe.[3]
Which Industrial Foregoing: Souls config options matter?
3 parts
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide
Good news: this addon is pretty light on config. Everything lives in two files, a machines file and a client file. In this pack, the values the files report are the same as the mod defaults they list, with one thing to double-check on the Soul Laser Base (see below).[7][8]
Soul Laser Base (soul production)
- IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulLaserBase.SOUL_STORAGE_AMOUNT is 1,350 in this pack. It is the max soul tank amount.[8]
- IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulLaserBase.MAX_PROGRESS is 20. This is the machine's max progress.[8]
- IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulLaserBase.SOULS_PER_OPERATION is 2. This is how many souls you get each time an operation completes.[8]
- IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulLaserBase.DAMAGE_PER_OPERATION is 4. This is the damage dealt to the Warden per operation.[8]
- IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulLaserBase.KILL_WARDEN is false. Per the config description, this controls whether the Warden is killed when its life gets near 0 or kept alive.[8]
Unverified The pack's config file lists the mod default for souls per operation as 2, but the mod's project page shows a default config with 3. I can't confirm which is correct, so I can't say whether the pack changed this value. What I can confirm is that the pack uses 2.
Soul Surge (acceleration)
The Soul Surge speeds up whatever it points at. The mod page says each soul lasts 15 seconds and makes the machine 4 times faster by default. The pack's settings below all match the mod defaults it lists.[1][8]
- IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulSurge.SOUL_TIME is 300 ticks. This is how long a soul lasts to accelerate ticks.[8]
- IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulSurge.ACCELERATION_TICK is 4 extra ticks for tile entities, which covers most machines.[8]
- IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulSurge.BLOCK_ACCELERATION_TICK is 4 extra ticks for blocks.[8]
- IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulSurge.ENTITIES_ACCELERATION_TICK is 4 extra ticks for mobs.[8]
- IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulSurge.RANDOM_TICK_ACCELERATION_CHANCE is 0.03, so random-tick blocks are accelerated about 3% of the time.[8]
Pipes and visuals
IFSoulsMachines.SOUL_AMOUNT_PER_PIPE is 4, which is how many souls each pipe can hold.[8]
If your soul pipe runs look too busy, or you want them busier, IFSoulsClient.SOUL_PIPES_PARTICLES is the option to change. It is set to 0.1 here, on a scale from 0.0 (0%) to 1.0 (100%).[7]
What changed in Industrial Foregoing: Souls between versions?
FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 ships Industrial Foregoing: Souls 1.10.7, using the file industrial-foregoing-souls-1.21.1-1.10.7.jar. The mod has been in the pack since 1.0.0 or earlier, so it has been part of StoneBlock 4 from the start.[2]
Unverified The pack changelogs have no entries for this mod, and the mod's own changelog text for 1.10.7 and 1.10.5 was not available when this section was written. Specific changes between versions are therefore unconfirmed, and nothing here says what was added, fixed or rebalanced.
