What is Industrial Foregoing: Souls?

2 parts

Industrial Foregoing: Souls is an add-on for Industrial Foregoing that turns souls from Wardens into machine speed. You pull the souls out of a Warden, store them, and spend them to make other machines work faster. This pack ships version 1.10.5.[1][2]

It's for you if you already run Industrial Foregoing machines and want to speed them up. It's also a fit if you like Warden farming, since the Stasis Chamber is the recommended way to hold the Warden.[1]

How it works

  1. Extract souls from a Warden using a Soul Laser Base fitted with a Blue Lens. Don't forget the lens, because the base needs it to work.[1]
  2. Place a Soul Surge so it points at the block you want to accelerate.[1]
  3. Connect the Soul Surge to the Soul Laser Base with Soul Pipes.[1]
  4. If you need to pause the acceleration, apply a redstone signal to the Soul Surge.[1]

By default, each soul lasts 15 seconds and makes the target machine 4 times faster. The mod lets you change this in its config. The sources don't show whether this pack changes those values, so treat them as the mod's defaults.[1]

Tip: If there's a block you never want accelerated, add it to the block tag industrialforegoingsouls:cant_accelerate.[1]

The mod also adds a way to get more Echo Shards, which it uses a lot.[1]

Where it fits in the pack

This mod has been in the pack since version 2.2 or earlier, so it's a long-standing part of the mod list.[2]

Unverified The sources don't confirm any quests for this mod or a place on the ATM Star path, so there is no verified progression gate for it here.

How do you get started with Industrial Foregoing: Souls?

4 parts

Industrial Foregoing: Souls pulls souls out of a Warden and uses them to speed up your machines. Three items get the whole system running, and in this pack all three are crafted in the Dissolution Chamber with recipes the pack added.[1][3]

Step 1: Soul Laser Base

Start with the Soul Laser Base. It extracts souls from a Warden and stores them, and the rest of the system draws on those stored souls.[1]

Watch out: Don't forget to add a lens! The Soul Laser Base needs a Blue Lens to extract souls from a Warden.[1]

The mod page also points to the Stasis Chamber as a helpful friend on the Warden side of things.[1]

Step 2: Soul Pipe

Next, make some Soul Pipe. You use Soul Pipes to connect the Soul Surge to the Soul Laser Base.[1]

Also a pack-added Dissolution Chamber recipe.

Step 3: Soul Surge

Last comes the Soul Surge. Place it pointing at the block you want to accelerate, then connect it to the Soul Laser Base with Soul Pipes. A redstone signal on the Soul Surge stops it from working.[1]

What you get out of it

  • By the mod's defaults, each soul lasts 15 seconds and makes the machine 4 times faster. In the default config that is a soul time of 300 ticks and an acceleration of 4.[1]
  • By the mod's defaults, each Soul Laser Base operation generates 3 souls and deals 4 damage to the Warden, and the Warden is not killed unless the config option for that is changed.[1]
  • You can stop a block from being accelerated by adding it to the block tag industrialforegoingsouls:cant_accelerate.[1]
  • The mod also adds a way to get more Echo Shards, since it uses a lot of them.[1]

How does Industrial Foregoing: Souls work?

4 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Industrial Foregoing: Souls is all about Warden souls. You pull souls out of a Warden with the Soul Laser Base, then spend them to speed up other machines with the Soul Surge. They are linked by Soul Pipe blocks.[1]

Getting souls out of a Warden

The Soul Laser Base extracts the souls, and it needs a Blue Lens to do it, so don't forget to add a lens. The mod's page also says the Stasis Chamber will be your friend when you do this.[1]

Each time the laser completes an operation it hurts the Warden and generates souls. This pack changes several of those values from the mod's defaults:[4]

Watch out: In this pack IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulLaserBase.KILL_WARDEN is true. The option decides whether the Warden is killed when its life gets near 0 or kept alive, so a Warden you farm can die. Plan for that before you build a long-term setup.[4]

Moving souls with Soul Pipes

Soul Pipes carry the souls from the Soul Laser Base to the Soul Surge. Each pipe can hold 4 souls, which is the same as the mod default. See IFSoulsMachines.SOUL_AMOUNT_PER_PIPE.[1][4]

Accelerating a block with the Soul Surge

Place the Soul Surge so it points at the block you want to speed up, then connect it with Soul Pipes to the Soul Laser Base. Once the base has souls stored, the Surge uses them. A redstone signal on the Soul Surge stops it, which is handy for switching your accelerated machines on and off.[1]

By default each soul makes the target 4 times faster. In this pack a soul lasts 200 ticks instead of the mod default of 300, set by IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulSurge.SOUL_TIME. So souls run out faster here than the mod's page suggests.[1][4]

The extra ticks are 4 for tile entities, 4 for blocks and 4 for mobs, all unchanged from the mod defaults. The options are IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulSurge.ACCELERATION_TICK, IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulSurge.BLOCK_ACCELERATION_TICK and IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulSurge.ENTITIES_ACCELERATION_TICK.[4]

Random-tick blocks are accelerated on a chance basis. This pack sets that chance to 0.025 (mod default 0.03) with IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulSurge.RANDOM_TICK_ACCELERATION_CHANCE.[4]

Tip: To stop a block from being accelerated, add it to the block tag industrialforegoingsouls:cant_accelerate.[1]

Crafting the machines

All of these parts are crafted in the Dissolution Chamber, and the recipes are added by this pack. Here is the Soul Laser Base:[5]

How do you progress through Industrial Foregoing: Souls?

3 parts

Industrial Foregoing: Souls has no tier ladder in this pack. What the pack does give you is a set of recipes for the mod's items, and every one of them is crafted in the Dissolution Chamber from Industrial Foregoing. The pack added each recipe itself, so you won't find them in the mod's defaults.[3]

Soul Pipe

The Soul Pipe is made in the Dissolution Chamber with a recipe the pack added. Here is the in-pack recipe.[3]

Tip: Check each recipe card above for the exact ingredients before you start gathering. Every one of these is a Dissolution Chamber recipe, so get that machine running first.[3]

Unverified No quests in this pack involve this mod, and no in-jar guidebook was found for it. The sources here do not show a quest-guided order for these items, so there is no confirmed order to build them in.

How does Industrial Foregoing: Souls work with other mods?

3 parts

Industrial Foregoing: Souls is an add-on for Industrial Foregoing, so its biggest link is with the main Industrial Foregoing mod. In this pack, the recipes for its core parts (the Soul Laser Base, Soul Surge and Soul Pipe) are all added by the pack. Each one is made in the Industrial Foregoing dissolution chamber and mixes in items from other mods.[3]

Soul Laser Base

The Soul Laser Base is the most demanding of these parts. It uses an Industrial Foregoing supreme machine frame, so you need to be well into the Industrial Foregoing progression first. It also pulls in Unstable Portal Fluid Source, plus Minecraft's Sculk Catalyst and Sculk Shrieker.[3]

Soul Surge

The Soul Surge is cheaper. It uses a simple machine frame instead of a supreme one. It shares the portal fluid and the sculk shrieker with the laser base, and it adds an Echo Shard.[3]

Soul Pipe

The Soul Pipe connects the Soul Surge to the Soul Laser Base. In this pack it uses Pink Slime from Industrial Foregoing and an echo shard, so it does not need the portal fluid.[1][3]

Tip: All of these recipes also call for plastic. They accept any item in the common plastics tag, so you can use whichever plastic your other mods provide. The laser base and the pipe also take gears from the common netherite and iron gear tags.[3]

The mod's project page says it also adds a way to get more echo shards, because the mod uses so many of them. That fits the pack's recipes, where the Soul Surge and Soul Pipe both need one.[1][3]

Which Industrial Foregoing: Souls config options matter?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Industrial Foregoing: Souls has two groups of options: the Soul Laser Base, which pulls souls out of a Warden, and the Soul Surge, which spends those souls to speed up machines. This pack changed most of the laser settings and two of the surge settings. Everything below comes from the pack's machines config file.[1][4]

Soul Laser Base: what the pack changed

Watch out: IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulLaserBase.KILL_WARDEN is true in this pack, so the Warden is killed when its life gets near 0 instead of being kept alive. Combined with the higher damage per operation, plan for the Warden to die sooner than the mod's own defaults would suggest.[4]

Soul Surge: shorter souls, slightly fewer random ticks

Left at the mod default

The acceleration strength is unchanged at 4 extra ticks for each target type: IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulSurge.ACCELERATION_TICK for tile entities, IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulSurge.BLOCK_ACCELERATION_TICK for blocks and IFSoulsMachines.ConfigSoulSurge.ENTITIES_ACCELERATION_TICK for mobs. IFSoulsMachines.SOUL_AMOUNT_PER_PIPE is also still 4, so each Soul Pipe holds 4 souls.[4]

Tip: Since the surge strength is unchanged, the pack's tuning is mostly about how many souls you get, how fast the laser works, and how long each soul lasts. Plan your soul supply around the 200-tick soul time rather than the longer default.[4]

Unverified The mod's project page lists a default of false for the Warden-kill option, but the pack's config file does not mark that option as changed, so whether the pack actually differs from the mod default there is unconfirmed.

What changed in Industrial Foregoing: Souls between versions?

Industrial Foregoing: Souls has been in All the Mods 10 since version 2.2 or earlier. In All the Mods 10 4.14 it is at version 1.10.5.[2]

  • All the Mods 10 2.32: Industrial Foregoing Souls was updated from 1.10.3 to 1.10.4.[6]
  • All the Mods 10 4.13: Industrial Foregoing Souls was updated from 1.10.4 to 1.10.5. This is the version still shipped in 4.14.[2][7]

Unverified The pack changelogs only record the version bumps. We have no changelog for the mod's own jars, so what changed inside 1.10.4 and 1.10.5 (new features, fixes or balance tweaks) is unconfirmed.
