What is Productive Trees?
2 parts
Productive Trees adds a huge collection of new tree species to the pack: 159 of them, according to the mod's own guide. The pack ships version 1.21.1-0.7.1. It's a good fit if you like breeding, collecting and automating, since most of the fun is crossing trees to unlock new ones. Use JEI to see which trees breed together and what else the mod offers.[1][2]
How breeding works
The basic idea is to put one tree next to another tree near some bees. The leaves of both trees need to be within 4 blocks of the bee nest or hive, and the bees need flowers nearby. Each trip from flower to hive triggers a pollination attempt on a nearby leaf. A spyglass helps you spot which leaves have been pollinated.[3]
If you'd rather do it by hand, run leaves through a pollen sifter to get pollen. Then use the pollen on a leaf to pollinate it and get a new species. Check JEI to see which pollen goes on which leaves.[3][4][5]
The mod also works with Productive Bees. A pollen sieve upgrade installed in an advanced beehive makes the bees collect pollen from nearby trees, and range upgrades widen the collection area. Extra sieve upgrades don't increase the yield.[6]
Machines and the quest chapter
The pack has a Productive Trees quest chapter. Many of its quests ask for a specific sapling and tell you where to get it. For example, Silver Lime Sapling comes from crossing Oak and Birch, while Black Ember Sapling can be found in chests inside Bastions.[7]
The chapter also introduces two machines. Stripper strips logs automatically using axes placed in the machine ("Stripping" quest). Sawmill cuts logs into sawdust and more planks than you'd get from crafting, and sawdust can be used to make paper ("Sawing" quest).[7][8]
Unverified Nothing in the available data places Productive Trees on the ATM Star path, and the sources don't show any pack-specific changes to its values or recipes.
How do you get started with Productive Trees?
3 parts
Productive Trees is all about breeding new tree species out of the ones you already know. The mod has 159 trees, and the pack's quest chapter lays out the crosses for you. Your first goal is simple: get a few starter saplings and set up a way to pollinate them.[2][7]
The mod is still in beta and not feature complete. The growth features, meaning how the trees look when fully grown, are still under development, so don't be surprised if some trees look rough.[3]
Step by step
- Start with the Productive Trees quest chapter. Several first-tier quests ask for a sapling listed with vanilla parents: Silver Lime Sapling and Beech Sapling both list Oak + Birch, and European Larch Sapling lists Spruce + Birch. These give you your first modded species to build on.[7]
- Also look at Teak Sapling (Dark Oak + Jungle) and Red Delicious Apple Sapling (Cherry + Oak/Dark Oak). Many later quests in the chapter list them as their prerequisite.[7]
- Pick up the structure saplings when you pass the right places. The quests list where each one is found: Black Ember Sapling in Bastion chests, Blue Yonder Sapling in Shipwreck chests, Soul Tree Sapling in End City chests, Firecracker Sapling in Ancient City chests, and Flickering Sun Sapling in Desert Pyramid chests. Brown Amber Sapling comes from Suspicious Sand and Gravel in Cold Ocean Ruins.[7][9]
- Set up pollination. The basic idea is to put one tree next to another tree near some bees. The leaves of the two trees you want to cross must be within 4 blocks of the nest or hive, and the bees need flowers nearby. Each trip from flower to hive triggers a pollination attempt on a nearby leaf.[3]
- If you'd rather skip bees, collect leaves and run them through a pollen sifter to get pollen. Use the pollen on a leaf to pollinate it by hand and get a new species.[3][4][5]
- Check JEI to see which trees breed together and which pollen to use on which leaves.[2][5]
Automating with bees
The hive can be simulated. Range upgrades widen the working area by 2 blocks each, on top of the base range of 4. A pollen sieve upgrade installed in an advanced beehive from Productive Bees makes the bees collect pollen from nearby trees. Its area is affected by range upgrades, and more than one sieve upgrade won't increase the yield.[3][6]
Machines worth making early
Two machines get their own quests in the chapter. The Stripper strips logs automatically using axes placed in the machine (quest "Stripping" quest). The Sawmill cuts logs into sawdust and more planks than you would get from crafting, and sawdust can be used to make paper (quest "Sawing" quest).[7][8]
Once you have saplings, you can also grow them in Botany Pots. The pack changed these crop recipes, so check the in-pack version rather than assuming mod defaults. Here is Beech as an example.[10]

How does Productive Trees work?
7 parts
Productive Trees is mostly about breeding. The mod has 159 trees, and its in-game guide points you to JEI to see which trees breed together and what the other recipes are. The mod is in beta and not feature complete, and the growth features (how trees look when grown) are still under development.[2][3]
Breeding with bees
The basic loop is simple: put one tree next to another tree near some bees. For it to work, the leaves of the two trees you want to breed must be within 4 blocks of the bee nest or hive, and the bees need flowers nearby.[3]
Every trip from a flower back to the hive triggers a pollination attempt on a nearby leaf. A spyglass helps you spot which leaves have been pollinated.[3]
The base working range is 4. Each range upgrade adds 2 blocks to the working area.[3]
Pollen and manual pollination
You can also breed without bees. Collect leaves and run them through a pollen sifter, which extracts pollen from leaves. Use the resulting pollen on a leaf to pollinate it by hand and get a new tree species.[3][4][9]
Pollen collected by bees works the same way. Check JEI to see which trees breed together, so you know which pollen to use on which leaves.[5]
Pollen sieve upgrade
The pollen sieve upgrade goes into an advanced beehive from Productive Bees, so your bees collect pollen from nearby trees. Some of the pollen the bees collect is sifted and deposited in the hive. The collection area is affected by range upgrades. Installing more than one sieve upgrade does not increase the yield.[6][9]
Machine upgrades
A time upgrade can be installed in machines for faster processing. You can install several for a greater time decrease. The second tier of the time upgrade is described as twice as good as the first.[9]
Stripper
The stripper takes the bark off wood, leaving it stripped. It needs an axe to operate.[8]
Tree Tap compatibility and tree products
Productive Trees is compatible with the Tree Tap mod, which lets you extract some additional tree products. Two examples from the in-game guide are maple sap from Sugar Maple trees, which makes Maple Syrup, and Date Palm trunks, which are described as juicy.[11][12][13]
Unverified The in-game guide has an entry saying Tree Tap is not installed, so whether Tree Tap is actually included in this pack is unconfirmed. Without it, the Tree Tap extraction features are probably unavailable.
What the sources don't cover
Unverified The available sources do not explain power use, fluid or item handling, multiblock structures, automation setups, or exact machine recipes. There are also no config files for this mod in the pack, so check JEI in-game for those details. This site does hold All the Mods 10: To the Sky's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
How do you progress through Productive Trees?
6 parts
The Productive Trees quest chapter is your roadmap for this mod. Each quest asks for one sapling, and the subtitle on most of them names the two species you cross to get it. You start from a few base saplings and work outward, so each step unlocks the parents for the next. The tier names below are just my way of grouping the chapter.[7]
How you move between tiers
There are two ways to breed. With bees, the leaves of the two trees you want to cross must be within 4 blocks of the nest or hive, and the bees need flowers nearby. Each trip from the flower to the hive triggers a pollination attempt on a nearby leaf. A spyglass helps you spot which leaves got pollinated.[3]
Range upgrades add 2 blocks of working area each, on top of the base range of 4. If you would rather do it by hand, collect leaves and run them through the pollen sifter, which extracts pollen from leaves. Then use the pollen on a leaf to pollinate it into a new species. Check JEI to see which pollen goes on which leaves.[3][4][5]
The Pollen Sieve Upgrade goes in an advanced beehive from Productive Bees, so the bees collect pollen from nearby trees. Stacking more than one sieve upgrade will not increase the yield.[6]
Tier 1: your starting saplings
These quests sit directly after the chapter's first quest. Some are crosses of vanilla trees, and some only come from structure loot.[7]
- Silver Lime Sapling and Beech Sapling are both listed as Oak + Birch. See a quest in "Productive Trees" and a quest in "Productive Trees".[7]
- European Larch Sapling is Spruce + Birch (a quest in "Productive Trees").[7]
- Teak Sapling is Dark Oak + Jungle (a quest in "Productive Trees").[7]
- Cacao Sapling is Jungle + Cherry (a quest in "Productive Trees").[7]
- Red Delicious Apple Sapling is Cherry + Oak/Dark Oak (a quest in "Productive Trees").[7]
- Loot-only saplings: Black Ember Sapling from Bastion chests, Blue Yonder Sapling from Shipwreck chests, Soul Tree Sapling from End City chests, Firecracker Sapling from Ancient City chests and Flickering Sun Sapling from Desert Pyramid chests.[7]
- Brown Amber Sapling comes from Suspicious Sand and Gravel inside Cold Ocean Ruins (a quest in "Productive Trees").[7]
Tier 2: first crosses
Once you own a few base saplings, the chapter fans out into branches. Each quest in a branch comes after the quest of the tree it is bred from.[7]
- Silver Lime branch: White Willow Sapling, Wild Cherry Sapling, Dogwood Sapling, Walnut Sapling and Ash Sapling.[7]
- Beech branch: Alder Sapling and Pecan Sapling (both Beech + Birch), plus Brazil Nut Sapling (Beech + Cacao).[7]
- Teak branch: Balsa Sapling (Teak + Acacia), Ipe Sapling (Teak + Dark Oak), Kapok Sapling (Teak + Jungle) and Cashew Sapling (Teak + Mangrove).[7]
- European Larch branch: Yew Sapling and Bull Pine Sapling (both European Larch + Spruce), plus Red Maple Sapling (Silver Lime + European Larch).[7]
- Red Delicious Apple branch: Granny Smith Apple Sapling, Sand Pear Sapling, Sweet Crabapple Sapling and Prairie Crabapple Sapling.[7]
- Loot-sapling crosses: Cave Dweller Sapling (Black Ember + Soul Tree), Rippling Willow Sapling (Blue Yonder + Flickering Sun) and Thunder Bolt Sapling (Firecracker + Flickering Sun).[7]
Later tiers
From here you cross your crosses. Aspen Sapling (Beech + Alder) leads to Elderberry Sapling and Rowan Sapling (both Aspen + Alder), and Rowan then leads to Holly Sapling. Bull Pine leads to Lawson Cypress Sapling, which leads on to Cork Oak Sapling (Lawson Cypress + Oak).[7]
The loot saplings feed later quests too. Foggy Blast Sapling needs Cave Dweller + Soul Tree (a quest in "Productive Trees"), and Time Traveller Sapling needs Blue Yonder + Rippling Willow (a quest in "Productive Trees"). So do your structure runs before you plan around these.[7]
Machines along the way
- The Stripper ("Stripping" quest) strips logs automatically using axes put in the machine, and it requires an axe to operate.[7][8]
- The Sawmill ("Sawing" quest) cuts logs into Sawdust and more planks than you would get from crafting. Sawdust can be used to make Paper, Fustic Logs also give Fustic, and Brazilwood and Logwood Logs also give Haematoxylin.[7]
Farming the result
The Botany Pots crop entries for these trees are marked as changed by the pack. Here is the Alder entry as an example: the sapling gives back leaves, a log and the sapling itself.[10]

How does Productive Trees work with other mods?
2 parts
Productive Trees connects to other mods in this pack in two main ways. The Sawmill turns logs from several other mods into planks, and the pollen side of the mod ties into Productive Bees.[6][10]
Sawmill recipes for other mods' woods
The pack adds a batch of Sawmill recipes so you can cut logs from other mods too. Each one takes Sawdust plus the matching log and gives you the planks. Most of them accept any log from that mod's log tag, so you don't have to hunt for one specific variant.[10]
- Allthemodium: Ancient Logs and Stripped Ancient Logs give Ancient Planks, Soul Logs give Soul Planks, and the Demonic Log gives Demonic Planks.[10]
- Ars Nouveau: any archwood log gives Archwood Planks.[10]
- Forbidden Arcanus: mysterywood logs give Aurum Planks, edelwood logs give Edelwood Planks, and fungyss stems give Fungyss Planks.[10]
- Integrated Dynamics: menril logs give Menril Planks.[10]
- Occultism: otherworld logs give Otherplanks.[10]
- Silent Gear: netherwood logs give Netherwood Planks.[10]

- any archwood log

One example of the Sawmill recipes the pack adds for other mods' logs.
The Sawing quest explains the general idea: the Sawmill cuts logs into sawdust and gives more planks than normal crafting would. Sawdust can also be used to make paper. See "Sawing" quest for the full text.[7]
Productive Bees and pollen
Bees from Productive Bees can do the pollination work for you. Install the pollen sieve upgrade in an advanced beehive from Productive Bees and the bees will collect pollen from nearby trees. Range upgrades affect the collection area, and stacking more than one sieve upgrade will not increase the yield.[6]
The pack has also changed a bee conversion recipe that takes Pollen as its input and produces the allergy result in Productive Bees.[10]
The pack also changed the upgrade recipe. The deprecated Upgrade Pollen Sieve can be crafted into Upgrade Pollen Sieve, so if you still have the old one, convert it to the new version.[10]

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Productive Trees?
4 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 guide
The pack has a single quest chapter for this mod, called Productive Trees. Nearly every quest asks you to hand in one sapling, and the quest subtitles list the parent trees you cross-breed to get it. Quests unlock in a branching tree, so the order below follows the prerequisites.[14]
Where you start
Nine quests unlock straight from the chapter itself. Seven are sapling quests, and the other two are machine quests.[14]
- a quest in "Productive Trees" asks for a Cacao Sapling (Jungle + Cherry).[14]
- a quest in "Productive Trees" asks for a Silver Lime Sapling (Oak + Birch).[14]
- a quest in "Productive Trees" asks for a Beech Sapling (Oak + Birch).[14]
- a quest in "Productive Trees" asks for a European Larch Sapling (Spruce + Birch).[14]
- a quest in "Productive Trees" asks for a Red Delicious Apple Sapling (Cherry + Oak/Dark Oak).[14]
- a quest in "Productive Trees" asks for a Teak Sapling (Dark Oak + Jungle).[14]
- a quest in "Productive Trees" asks for a Brown Amber Sapling. These come from Suspicious Sand and Gravel inside Cold Ocean Ruins, which the quest says this pack doesn't really have. It suggests placing some Gravel near Alakarkinos's home, plus some Source so they can work.[14]
- "Stripping" quest (Stripping) asks for the Stripper, which strips Logs automatically using Axes put in the machine.[14]
- "Sawing" quest (Sawing) asks for the Sawmill. It cuts Logs into Sawdust and more Planks than you would get from crafting, and Sawdust can be used to make Paper. Fustic Logs also give Fustic, and Brazilwood and Logwood Logs also give Haematoxylin.[14]
The branches
From Silver Lime you reach a quest in "Productive Trees" (White Willow), a quest in "Productive Trees" (Wild Cherry), a quest in "Productive Trees" (Dogwood), a quest in "Productive Trees" (Walnut) and a quest in "Productive Trees" (Ash). Beech leads to a quest in "Productive Trees" (Alder), a quest in "Productive Trees" (Brazil Nut) and a quest in "Productive Trees" (Pecan). European Larch leads to a quest in "Productive Trees" (Red Maple), a quest in "Productive Trees" (Yew) and a quest in "Productive Trees" (Bull Pine).[14]
Teak opens a quest in "Productive Trees" (Balsa), a quest in "Productive Trees" (Ipe), a quest in "Productive Trees" (Kapok) and a quest in "Productive Trees" (Cashew). The Kapok line continues to a quest in "Productive Trees" (Ceylon Ebony), then a quest in "Productive Trees" (Yellow Meranti), then a quest in "Productive Trees" (Mahogany). Mahogany in turn unlocks a quest in "Productive Trees" (Old Fustic), a quest in "Productive Trees" (Greenheart), a quest in "Productive Trees" (Rosewood) and a quest in "Productive Trees" (Brazilwood).[14]
The apple line starts at Red Delicious Apple and splits into a quest in "Productive Trees" (Prairie Crabapple), a quest in "Productive Trees" (Sand Pear), a quest in "Productive Trees" (Granny Smith) and a quest in "Productive Trees" (Sweet Crabapple). Cacao leads to a quest in "Productive Trees" (Papaya), then a quest in "Productive Trees" (Date Palm), then a quest in "Productive Trees" (Asai Palm). The citrus line runs through White Willow to a quest in "Productive Trees" (Sour Cherry) and a quest in "Productive Trees" (Citron). From there it reaches Pomelo, Plum, Key Lime, Mandarin and eventually a quest in "Productive Trees" (Orange).[14]
Quests with extra requirements
Several quests have a second prerequisite outside the chapter's own tree, and some of the saplings need loot you won't find in a normal breeding setup. The quest text says where to look.[14]
- a quest in "Productive Trees" (Firecracker) needs Red Maple plus Firework Rockets, a Warden Tendril and a Warden Spawn Egg. The quest says these are found in chests inside Ancient Cities.[14]
- a quest in "Productive Trees" (Flickering Sun) uses Dogwood plus Solar Gems. You can make the gems with either 8 Flawed or 1 Perfect Solar Gem.[14]
- a quest in "Productive Trees" (Soul Tree) uses Asai Palm plus Forbidden Arcanus Souls, found in chests inside End Cities.[14]
- a quest in "Productive Trees" (Black Ember) uses Socotra Dragon, Blazing Crystals and Black Dye, found in chests inside Bastions.[14]
- a quest in "Productive Trees" (Blue Yonder) uses Star Fruit, Nether Stars and Blue Dye, found in chests inside Shipwrecks.[14]
The crepe myrtle line is "Purple Crepe Myrtle Sapling" quest (Purple Crepe Myrtle), then a quest in "Productive Trees" (Red Crepe Myrtle), a quest in "Productive Trees" (Tuscarora Crepe Myrtle) and finally "Moonlight Magic Crepe Myrtle Sapling" quest (Moonlight Magic Crepe Myrtle). Each of the last three also lists a "Luck" quest as a prerequisite, and so do the Copper Beech and White Ipe quests. The Ipe line continues with a quest in "Productive Trees" (Pink Ipe) and a quest in "Productive Trees" (Purple Ipe).[14]
The endgame saplings
The last quests combine the rare trees. a quest in "Productive Trees" (Purple Spiral) and a quest in "Productive Trees" (Water Wonder) build on Blue Yonder. a quest in "Productive Trees" (Rippling Willow) crosses Blue Yonder with Flickering Sun, and a quest in "Productive Trees" (Slimy Delight) builds on that. a quest in "Productive Trees" (Night Fuchsia) needs Purple Spiral and Sparkle Cherry. The chapter ends with a quest in "Productive Trees", which asks for the Time Traveller Sapling from Blue Yonder + Rippling Willow.[14]
