What is Apothic-Enchanting?

3 parts

Apothic Enchanting is the enchanting module of Apotheosis, and it completely reworks how enchanting works. This pack ships version 1.6.2. If you've ever just surrounded an enchanting table with 15 bookshelves and called it done, this mod is your next rabbit hole.[1][2]

The pack's own chapter, "Apothic Enchanting" quest, opens by warning you that 15 bookshelves won't be enough anymore. It then walks you through the new shelves and the new things you can do at an enchanting table.[3]

What it changes

Bookshelves now provide Enchanting Stats. The three main ones are Eterna (enchanting strength, which raises the level cost), Quanta (how random the results are) and Arcana (more enchantments, and rare ones become more common). The mod also raises the Enchanting Table's max level to 100 and automatically raises the max levels of most enchantments.[1]

The pack's quests give you a feel for the stats. A Hellshelf gives 3% Quanta and 3 Eterna, and a Seashelf gives 3% Arcana and 3 Eterna. Quanta starts at 15% and caps at 100%, while Arcana starts at 0% and also caps at 100%.[3]

Utilities you'll meet

  • Tomes act like books but only accept enchantments for one kind of item. There are nine in total, covering helmets, chestplates, leggings, boots, swords, bows, pickaxes, fishing rods, and one for everything else.[1]
  • Scrapping tomes remove enchantments from an item. The basic Tome of Scrapping takes half of the enchantments and destroys the item. The Tome of Extraction takes them all and leaves the item intact.[1][3]
  • The Enchantment Library stores all your enchanted books in one place, measured in points. The pack's quest says each enchantment is stored up to a max of 32768 points.[1][3]
  • Ender Leads let you pick up mobs. The Flimsy Ender Lead is the cheapest, holds only animals and breaks after 8 uses. The Occult Ender Lead also shows up in the Apothic Spawners chapter, where it binds mobs to spawners.[3][4]

Where it fits in the pack

The shelf quests for Hellshelves, Seashelves, Quanta and Arcana unlock after the Infusing quest, so you'll start building better enchanting setups once you've got infusion going. The Infused shelves feed into later goals such as the Enchantment Library.[3]

The mod needs Placebo and Apothic Attributes to run. If you want the Chronicle of Shadows guidebook, Patchouli also has to be installed.[1]

Unverified Whether the Chronicle of Shadows guidebook is available in this pack is unconfirmed, because no in-jar guidebook was found for this mod.

How do you get started with Apothic-Enchanting?

5 parts

Enchanting works differently in this pack. The pack's own quest says 15 bookshelves are no longer enough, so the first steps are about building a proper enchanting set-up. Here is the order I'd go in.[3]

The table and your first bookshelves

Start with the Apothic Enchanting Table. The pack changed its recipe, so follow the one below and not what you remember from the mod. The first quest accepts either this table or a vanilla Enchanting Table, and the mod describes this one as a cosmetic variant of the Enchanting Table.[3][5][6]

Next, make Basic Bookshelf. Bookshelves are how you get enchanting stats. Each one placed in a valid spot feeds the table, and there are 32 valid spots: the ring around the table (corners included) on its own level and the ring one level up. There must be air between the table and each shelf.[1][5]

Learn the three stats

Eterna sets the max enchanting level. Quanta adds randomness. Arcana increases the number of enchantments and makes rare ones more common. The quests give the defaults: Quanta starts at 15% with a max of 100%, and Arcana starts at 0% with a max of 100%.[1][3][6]

Plain bookshelves cap out quickly. 15 of them give 30 Eterna, and adding another doesn't raise it. A Hellshelf has a higher max of 45, so adding one lifts you to 33.[1]

Pick Hellshelves or Seashelves

The quests have you choose a path. Hellshelf give 3% Quanta and 3 Eterna each. Seashelf give 3% Arcana and 3 Eterna each. You want 16 of whichever you pick: 15 around the table and 1 to infuse. The quests hand out the last 5 once you have collected 11.[3]

Infuse your first shelf

With 15 Hellshelves around the table you have 45 Eterna and 30% Quanta, which is the right amount to infuse the last one into an Infused Hellshelf. It gives 5 Eterna (max 60) and 5% Quanta. The Seashelf route works the same way and ends with an Infused Seashelf, which gives 5 Eterna (max 60) and 5% Arcana.[3]

Infusion (apothic_enchanting)

Infused shelves are the base for the better shelves later on. The quests point you at 13 Infused Hellshelves on the Hellshelf route, or 12 Infused Seashelves on the Seashelf route, which become Crystalline Seashelf.[3]

Cut down bad rolls

The more Quanta you have, the more common weaker enchantments become. The Geode-Encased Bookshelf of Stability removes that increased chance. It needs a Budding Amethyst, which can't be mined, even with Silk Touch. The quest says you'll need a ritual or an infusion to get one.[3]

Tip: Click the ? in the top right of the table's GUI while an item is in it to see the pool of enchantments available. It's the quickest way to check whether your set-up is doing what you want.[3]

How does Apothic-Enchanting work?

9 parts

Apothic Enchanting turns the vanilla enchanting table into a stat-driven system. Instead of set-and-forget bookshelves, you build a setup around three primary stats and a few secondary ones. The table's max level is raised to 100, and the max levels of most enchantments go up automatically.[1]

Primary and secondary stats

  • Eterna measures enchanting strength and increases the level cost.[1]
  • Quanta measures randomness, changing how much RNG is involved.[1]
  • Arcana measures mystical quality. It increases the number of enchantments you receive and makes rare enchantments more common.[1]

You can see the primary stats directly in the enchanting table's GUI. The secondary stats fine-tune things: Enchanting Clues change how many enchantments you are shown when hovering a slot, Quantic Stability makes Quanta only beneficial, Allowing Treasure lets treasure enchantments like Mending show up (curses count as treasure too, so be careful), and Enchantment Filters blacklist enchantments you don't want in the pool.[1]

The mod also tracks a few challenges around these stats, such as enchanting at 0% Quanta, or enchanting with max Eterna and Arcana but 0% Quanta.[6]

How bookshelves feed the table

Stats mostly come from bookshelves. There are 32 valid bookshelf locations: the ring around the table (corners included) on the table's own y-level, plus the same ring one level above. There must be an air block between the table and the shelf for it to count. Other stat blocks, like skulls or candles, also need to sit in a valid location.[1]

Any block that gives stats shows them in its tooltip. Some blocks are dynamic, so the tooltip may not be fully accurate. Candles are the example: you can stack up to 4 in one block space, and stacking gives more Arcana.[1]

Max Eterna and the step-ladder

Most blocks declare a max Eterna, the most that block can contribute to before its Eterna bonus is discarded. The lowest-max blocks are counted first, so you do not need to remove your low-max shelves to reach higher levels. For example, 15 bookshelves (max 30) give you 30 Eterna. Adding another bookshelf keeps you at 30, but adding a Hellshelf (max 45) lifts you to 33.[1][6]

A block with no specific stats that would normally provide enchanting power gives its usual Eterna, with a max of 30. Stats for any block can be adjusted with a datapack, and the mod also has an API for dynamic stats.[1]

Tomes

Tomes act like books when enchanted, but only accept enchantments for one type of item. There are nine in total: helmets, chestplates, leggings, boots, swords, bows, pickaxes, fishing poles, and one catch-all for enchantments that fit none of the others.[1]

The pack's recipes for the Tome of Boots, the Tome of the Archers and the Tome of the Others each make several tomes per craft, as the recipes below show.[5]

Scrapping tomes remove enchantments from an item. The basic Tome of Scrapping pulls only half of the enchantments and destroys the item. The Tome of Superior Scrapping pulls all of them but still destroys the item. The Tome of Extraction retrieves everything and leaves the item intact.[1][5]

The Basic Bookshelf recipe uses any tome in the tomes tag, so tomes feed straight into your shelf building.[5]

Experience costs

Experience costs are normalized for both the enchanting table and the anvil. Only the true amount of experience is deducted, instead of levels subtracted from your current level, so you don't have to micromanage your XP to avoid waste.[1]

Infusion and shelf upgrades

Many upgraded shelves and items come from a dedicated infusion recipe type. In this pack, infusion recipes cover items such as the Dormant Deepshelf, the Deepshelf, the Flimsy Ender Lead and the Ender Lead. The recipes are shown below.[5][6]

How do you progress through Apothic-Enchanting?

8 parts

The quests for this mod sit in the Apothic Enchanting chapter. The first one, "Apothic Enchanting" quest, says it straight away: 15 bookshelves won't be enough anymore. There are new bookshelves and new actions you can do at an enchanting table, and the rest of the chapter walks you up that ladder.[3]

Your entry point is the Apothic Enchanting Table. The pack changed this recipe, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults.[5]

The three stats you are climbing

Everything is driven by Eterna, Quanta and Arcana. The quest book describes Quanta as mixing up the enchantment pool, but the more you have, the more common weaker enchantments become. It gives Quanta a default of 15% and a max of 100%. Arcana, it says, increases how many enchantments you get and makes rare ones more common, with a default of 0% and a max of 100%. See "Quanta" quest and "Arcana" quest.[3]

Tier 1: Hellshelf or Seashelf

You choose a side here. According to the quests, the Hellshelf is your introduction to Quanta, giving 3% Quanta and 3 Eterna, and the Seashelf is your introduction to Arcana, giving 3% Arcana and 3 Eterna. Both quests unlock after the Infusing quest. The quests ask for 15 shelves around the table plus 1 in your inventory, because that last one is the shelf you infuse. See "Hellshelves" quest and "Seashelves" quest.[3]

Tier 2: Infused shelves and their upgrades

The quests have you infuse a Hellshelf or a Seashelf while it sits in a 15-shelf setup. They describe infused shelves as giving 5 Eterna with a max of 60. The Infused Hellshelf adds 5% Quanta, and the Infused Seashelf adds 5% Arcana. See "Infused Hellshelves" quest and "Infused Seashelf" quest.[3]

Next the quests have you craft infused shelves into the ones you need for the next tier. They say the Crystalline Seashelf keeps 5 Eterna and 5% Arcana and adds 3% Quanta, and that the Glowing Hellshelf keeps the same Eterna and Quanta but gives 3.3333% Arcana. For the next step they point to 12 Crystalline Seashelves or 13 Glowing Hellshelves.[3]

Tier 4: Dragon's Breath and the Endshelves

With max Eterna at 80 the quest has you infuse Dragon's Breath into Infused Dragon's Breath. It suggests 4 Echoing Sculkshelves, 4 Soul-Touched Sculkshelves and 6 Geode-Encased Bookshelves of Stability, which it says gives 80 Eterna, 25% Quanta and 100% Arcana. See "Infused Dragon's Breath" quest.[3]

The Endshelf is next. The quest says its stats aren't currently the best, only 5 each, but that its max Eterna of 90 is the point. The same quest book calls the Draconic Endshelf the last shelf you need for the perfect setup: it gives only Eterna, with a max Eterna of 100. The Pearlescent Endshelf has max Eterna 90, but the quest says it isn't what you want for max enchanting. See "Endshelves" quest, "Draconic Endshelf" quest and "Pearlescent Endshelf" quest.[3]

The optional extra is the Deepshelf of Arcane Treasures, which the quest says lets you get enchantments like Mending that you normally couldn't.[3]

How does Apothic-Enchanting work with other mods?

4 parts

Apothic Enchanting items show up in a handful of recipes from other mods in this pack. The main hooks are Create: Enchantment Industry, the Apotheosis gateway and spawner recipes, and a very odd Ender Crafter recipe that leads to a tree sapling.[5]

Create: Enchantment Industry

Quests

The Apothic Spawners quest chapter has a quest that asks for the Occult Ender Lead. It is the quest a quest in "Apothic Spawners".[4]

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Apothic-Enchanting?

7 parts

The mod has its own quest chapter, Apothic Enchanting, and it also shows up in two other chapters: Apothic Spawners and Chapter 3: AllTheModium. Almost everything is in the Apothic Enchanting chapter, where the quest text walks you from your first better bookshelves up to a maxed-out enchanting setup. Below, "after" means the prerequisite quests listed for each quest in the pack's quest data, and the details come from what each quest's text says.[3][4][7]

Where to start

The intro quest "Apothic Enchanting" quest asks for an enchanting table or the Apothic Enchanting Table. Its text says 15 bookshelves won't be enough anymore. Two more quests list no prerequisite: "Enchantment Library" quest for the Enchantment Library, and "Flimsy Ender Lead" quest for the Flimsy Ender Lead. That quest sets Soul Gems and Creature Catchers aside for now to focus on this lead, which its text says can only hold animals and breaks after 8 uses.[3]

Shelf routes

Eterna, Quanta and Arcana

"Quanta" quest and "Arcana" quest explain the stats and both come after Infusing. Their text gives Quanta a default of 15% and a max of 100%, while Arcana starts at 0% and also maxes at 100%. "Negative Enchantments Removal" quest asks for the Geode-Encased Bookshelf of Stability, which its text says removes the increased chance of worse enchantments. "Negative amounts" quest covers the Beeshelf, Stoneshelf and Melonshelf, which its text says each lower a stat for infusions needing exact amounts.[3]

Tomes

Deepshelves and the endgame

  1. "Deepshelf" quest (after Ascent to 60) asks for the Deepshelf. Its text says the infusion needs 60 Eterna, 40% Quanta and 40% Arcana.[3]
  2. "Echoing Deepshelf" quest and "Soul-Touched Deepshelf" quest both come after Deepshelf. "Echoing Sculkshelf" quest follows the Echoing Deepshelf, and "Soul-Touched Sculkshelf" quest follows the Soul-Touched Deepshelf.[3]
  3. "Infused Dragon's Breath" quest asks for the Infused Dragon's Breath, after Negative Enchantments Removal and Ahh, Pinnacle, at last. Its text says to aim for 80 Eterna.[3]
  4. "Endshelves" quest (the Endshelf) comes next. Its text says the shelf's stats are not the best at the moment, but its max Eterna of 90 is incredible. After it come "Draconic Endshelf" quest (max Eterna 100 according to its text) and "Pearlescent Endshelf" quest.[3]
  5. "Best Enchanting set-up" quest comes after the Draconic Endshelf and asks for five shelf types. "Library of Alexandria" quest asks for the Library of Alexandria. "Enchanting Table of the Raven" quest comes after God-Fused Pearl and asks for the Enchanting Table of the Raven.[3]

Ender Leads and the Trident

"Ender Lead" quest asks for the Ender Lead, which its text says can hold hostile mobs and breaks after 64 uses. It comes after Other Infusion Items, Flimsy Ender Lead and The Frontier Calls. "Occult Ender Lead" quest asks for the Occult Ender Lead, which its text says is unbreakable and can bind mobs to Spawners. It comes after Other Infusion Items, Ender Lead and To reach the Summit. "Making a real Trident" quest asks for the Inert Trident, which its text says you infuse to get a normal Trident.[3]

In other chapters

  • Apothic Spawners: a quest in "Apothic Spawners" asks for the Occult Ender Lead again and points you back to the Apothic Enchanting chapter for how to get it.[4]
  • Chapter 3: AllTheModium: "VAT" quest asks for a VAT, Soul Sand 1x and a Warden Tendril, which its text says are mixed in Lava to make Soul Lava.[7]
Watch out: The text of the Soul-Touched and Echoing Sculkshelf quests says the Warden Tendril is a drop from the Warden, so you'll have to kill one. The VAT quest asks for the same item.[3][7]
