What is Iron Jetpacks?

2 parts

Iron Jetpacks adds fully customizable jetpacks powered by Forge Energy (FE). It ships with a set of default jetpacks made from vanilla and modded materials, and every jetpack's stats and attributes can be configured. The pack includes version 8.0.11 of the mod, and it has been in the pack since 1.0 or earlier.[1][2]

It's for anyone who wants to move around faster and more freely. You also get a built-in HUD that shows your energy, engine, hover and throttle status, plus throttle controls so you can change your aerial speed on the fly.[1]

Where it fits in the pack

The pack introduces the mod in the Tips and Tricks quest chapter with the quest "Iron Jetpacks" quest, which asks for a Jetpack. The quest says you start with a Wood Jetpack and can upgrade it all the way to a Creative Jetpack. There are many versions, but they all work the same way.[3]

The basics

  • Wear it in your Chestplate slot, as a Back Curio, or as a Curio Curio.[3]
  • It runs on FE, and you can charge it with any Item Charger. If you run out of energy while flying, you drop.[3]
  • Turn the Engine on with V, then hold Space to rise. You fall when you let go.[3]
  • If you'd rather not drop, turn on Hover, which has no default key. You then stay at the same altitude, go higher with Space and lower with Shift.[3]
  • Lower your Throttle with comma and raise it with period (the default keys) to adjust your flight speed.[3]
Tip: Keep your jetpack charged before a long trip, because running out of FE mid-flight means a fall.[3]

How do you get started with Iron Jetpacks?

4 parts

Jetpacks are one of the best ways to get around, and this pack gives you a quest for them: "Iron Jetpacks" quest in the Tips and Tricks chapter. Here is the order I'd go in, using what the pack tells us.[3]

Step by step

  1. Start with the Wood Jetpack. The quest says this is where you begin, and that it can be upgraded all the way up to a Creative Jetpack. All the versions work the same way, so what you learn on the first one carries over.[3]
  2. Make the Iron Jetpacks crafting items below. The Leather Strap and the Basic, Advanced, Elite and Ultimate Coils all have normal mod recipes in this pack.[4]
  3. Get a way to charge. Every jetpack runs on FE, and the quest says any Item Charger can charge them.[1][3]
  4. Equip it. A jetpack can go in your Chestplate Slot, in a Back Curio, or in the Curio Curio slot.[3]
  5. Turn your Engine on with V, then hold Space to fly up. Let go and you drop.[3]
Watch out: If you run out of energy mid-flight, you will drop. Charge up before you head out over a big drop or the void.[3]

The crafting items to make first

These are the in-pack recipes for the Iron Jetpacks crafting items. Start with the Leather Strap, then work through the coil tiers from Basic to Ultimate.[4]

Fine-tuning your flight

Once you're in the air, you can turn on Hover. It has no default key, so you'll need to bind it yourself. With Hover on, you stay at the same altitude, go higher with Space and lower with Shift.[3]

To change how fast you fly, adjust the Throttle. By default, comma lowers it and period raises it. The built-in HUD shows your energy, engine, hover and throttle stats, so you can keep an eye on them while flying.[1][3]

Looking ahead

The top of the ladder is the Creative Jetpack, and this pack adds its own recipe for it. It uses an Unobtainium Block, an ATM Star and Insanium Essence, so it's a long-term goal, not a first step.[3][4]

How does Iron Jetpacks work?

3 parts

Iron Jetpacks is a Forge Energy (FE) based jetpack mod, so every jetpack runs on FE and should work with whatever power setup you already have. The mod describes its jetpacks as fully customizable, with stats and attributes that can be configured, and it ships a set of default jetpacks made from vanilla and modded materials.[1]

Flying and the HUD

The mod has throttle controls, so you can change your aerial movement speed on the fly. A built-in HUD shows your current energy, engine, hover and throttle stats. You can also equip a jetpack as a Curio.[1]

A jetpack's tooltip lists the stats that define how it flies:[5]

  • Horizontal Speed[5]
  • Vertical Acceleration[5]
  • Hover Ascend Speed and Hover Descend Speed[5]
  • Sprint Fuel Modifier and Sprint Vertical Multiplier[5]

Parts and crafting

The mod adds a Jetpack, a Thruster, a Capacitor and an Cell, plus a Leather Strap and a set of coils: Basic Coil, Advanced Coil, Elite Coil and Ultimate Coil. The jetpack, thruster, capacitor and cell names have a placeholder in them, which the game fills in per variant.[5]

The strap and the coils use the mod's own recipes, which the pack leaves as they are. Here they are:[4]

Pack-added recipes

The pack adds its own recipes for a jetpack, thruster, capacitor and energy cell. Their ids include the word creative, and each one comes from the pack rather than the mod.[4]

Unverified The actual stat values for each jetpack, their energy capacity and transfer rates are set in the mod's own configuration, and the sources here do not show them. Check the tooltip in game for the real numbers. The sources also do not show how the coils, strap, thruster, capacitor and cell combine into a finished jetpack.

How do you progress through Iron Jetpacks?

3 parts

Jetpacks in this pack follow one simple idea: you start with a Wood Jetpack and upgrade it all the way up to a Creative Jetpack. The quest "Iron Jetpacks" quest in the Tips and Tricks chapter is your starting point, and you complete it by getting a Jetpack.[3]

The quest says every version works the same way, so a higher tier doesn't change the basic controls. Every jetpack can go in your Chestplate Slot or a Back Curio, and the quest also mentions a Curio Curio.[3]

Powering and flying

All jetpacks need FE to work, and you can charge them with any Item Charger. Turn your Engine on with V, then hold Space to fly up. Let go and you drop.[3]

Watch out: Jetpacks use FE to fly, and if you run out of energy you will drop. Check your charge before you take off.[3]
  • Hover is unbound by default. Turn it on and you stay at the same altitude. Space takes you higher and Shift takes you lower.[3]
  • Throttle controls how fast you fly. Decrease it with the comma key and increase it with the period key, by default.[3]

Crafting components

The recipes for the Leather Strap and the coils, Basic Coil, Advanced Coil, Elite Coil and Ultimate Coil, are listed as the mod's own recipes. The sources don't show the pack changing them.[4]

The Creative tier

The top of the path is the Creative tier, and the pack adds its own recipes for it. They cover the Creative Jetpack, Thruster, Cell and Capacitor. These recipes pull in items from other mods, such as Unobtainium Blocks and the ATM Star.[4]

How does Iron Jetpacks work with other mods?

3 parts

Iron Jetpacks connects to the rest of the pack through power and through crafting. The crafting side is where you'll see the most other mods.[1][4]

Power: Forge Energy

Jetpacks run on Forge Energy (FE), so they work with the energy systems of other mods. The pack's quest says any item charger can fill one up. You'll drop if you run out of energy mid-flight, and the built-in HUD shows your current energy, so keep an eye on it.[1][3]

Equipping: Curios

The mod supports Curios, so a Jetpack doesn't have to take up your chestplate slot. The pack's quest "Iron Jetpacks" quest says you can wear it in the chestplate slot or as a back curio.[1][3]

That quest sits in the "Tips and Tricks" chapter of the pack's quest book. It also covers the engine toggle, hover and throttle controls.[3]

Crafting: the pack's custom recipes

The pack adds custom shaped recipes (made with KubeJS) that connect Iron Jetpacks to other mods. Each recipe makes a different part of the mod, and the recipe ids are named for the Creative tier. They use high-end items from several other mods.[4]

The Jetpack itself uses Block of Unobtainium, ATM Star and Insanium Essence:[4]

The Thruster brings in the Unobtainium Furnace and the Block Of Nitro Crystal:[4]

The Capacitor pulls from Mekanism and Powah, using the SPS Casing, the Ultimate Induction Cell and the Reactor (Nitro):[4]

The Cell uses the Battery (Nitro):[4]

The redstone slot accepts any block from the redstone storage block tag, so you have a choice there.

Tip: These recipes are added by the pack, not taken from the mod's own defaults. If you've played Iron Jetpacks elsewhere, check the recipes above rather than relying on what you remember.[4]

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Iron Jetpacks?

1 part

Iron Jetpacks has just one quest in this pack, and it sits in the "Tips and Tricks" chapter. Because it's the only one, there's no order to follow. It's more of a how-to guide than a progression step.[3]

Iron Jetpacks (Tips and Tricks)

The quest "Iron Jetpacks" quest has a single task: submit a Jetpack. Its text tells you to start with a Wood Jetpack, which can be upgraded all the way to a Creative Jetpack. It also says that every version works the same way.[3]

The quest text covers the basics of using a jetpack:[3]

  • Where to wear it: your Chestplate Slot, or a Back Curio, or a Curio Curio.[3]
  • Power: every jetpack needs FE, and any Item Charger can charge it. If you run out of energy mid-flight, you drop.[3]
  • Flying: turn on your Engine with V, then hold Space to rise. You fall when you let go.[3]
  • Hover: this is unbound by default. When it's on, you stay at the same altitude. Space takes you higher and Shift takes you lower.[3]
  • Speed: change your Throttle. Decrease it with the comma key and increase it with the period key (both defaults).[3]
Tip: Hover has no default key, so you'll need to bind it in your controls before you can use it. It's worth doing if you don't like dropping when you let go of Space.[3]

What changed in Iron Jetpacks between versions?

2 parts

All the Mods 10: To the Sky 1.8 ships Iron Jetpacks 8.0.11 for Minecraft 1.21.1. The mod has been in the pack since version 1.0 or earlier. Here are the changes from the mod's own changelogs for the latest releases.[2]

8.0.11

  • Updated the zh_cn translations. That's the only change listed for this release.[6]

8.0.10

  • Improved how the jetpack sound loops.[7]
  • Fixed the jetpack component ingredient not working with charged jetpacks.[7]
  • Fixed the energy tooltip colors being inconsistent.[7]
  • Updated the pt_br translations.[7]

Unverified The sources here include no pack changelog entries for Iron Jetpacks, so any changes the pack itself made to this mod between pack releases are unverified. Those would be listed in the pack's own changelogs.
