What is Gateways To Eternity?

Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.44 guide

Gateways To Eternity is included in this pack as version 5.0.2, built for Minecraft 1.21.1. It has been part of the pack for a while, so it isn't a recent addition.[1]

Unverified The available sources don't describe what Gateways To Eternity does, who it's aimed at, or where it fits in this pack's progression. Check the mod's own documentation or try it in-game for those details.

How do you get started with Gateways To Eternity?

2 parts

The one item you need to care about in Gateways To Eternity is the Gate Pearl. It's what opens a Gateway, so everything starts with crafting one.[2][3]

The pack's quest book has no quests for this mod, so there's no guided order to follow. The steps below come straight from the mod's own item text and the pack's recipes.[3]

Craft a Gate Pearl

In this pack there are several different recipes, and every one of them makes a Gate Pearl. Pick whichever one you can gather the items for first. Here they are as the pack has them:[2]

Use it and survive

  1. Use the Gate Pearl on a block to summon a Gateway.[3]
  2. Pick a spot with room to spare. The pearl only works if the new Gateway wouldn't be too close to another Gateway, based on the current spacing, and the Gateway also needs enough space to open.[3]
  3. Fight off what comes out. Rewards spawn from the Gateway as you obtain them.[3]
Watch out: An open Gateway fails in a burst of lightning if it can't spawn a mob, if any active mob walks too far away, or if the wave timer runs out. It also implodes if an entity is removed without being killed or if there's no space to spawn the next wave. Fight somewhere open and keep the mobs close.[3]

How does Gateways To Eternity work?

5 parts

Gateways To Eternity is built around one item, the Gate Pearl. You use it on a block to summon a Gateway to Eternity, which is the entity that runs the whole fight. The sources for this pack don't include a guidebook, config files or quest text for the mod, so this section only covers what the mod's own text and the recipe list explain.[3]

Opening a Gateway

A Gate Pearl summons a Gateway when you use it on a block. It only works if the new Gateway wouldn't be too close to another Gateway, based on the current spacing. If there isn't enough room, you get the message "There's not enough space to open this Gateway".[3]

How a Gateway fails

An open Gateway fails in a burst of lightning if it cannot spawn a mob, if any active mob walks too far away, or if the wave timer elapses. Each cause has its own message, so you can tell what went wrong:[3]

  • Wave Timer Expired: you ran out of time on the wave.[3]
  • The Gateway imploded because a wave entity ran too far away: a mob from the wave strayed too far from the Gateway.[3]
  • The Gateway imploded because there was not enough space to spawn the next wave: the next wave had nowhere to appear.[3]
  • The Gateway imploded because an entity was removed without being killed: a wave mob disappeared some way other than dying.[3]
Tip: Before you use a Gate Pearl, pick a spot with plenty of open space around it. A Gateway can implode if it can't spawn the next wave, and it won't open at all without enough room.[3]

Rewards

Rewards spawn from the Gateway as they are obtained, so you don't have to wait until the end of the fight to see them.[3]

Endless modifiers

The mod has tooltip text for Endless Modifiers, shown as a count out of a total, plus a line giving how many Endless Modifiers there are. It also has an endless recipe for the Gate Pearl. How the modifiers change a fight isn't explained in the available sources, so check them in game.[2][3]

Crafting Gate Pearls

Every Gate Pearl in this pack comes from a recipe of the gateways:gate_recipe type, and each one is listed as a mod recipe. The recipe ids are basic/blaze, basic/enderman, basic/slime, endless/blaze, emerald_grove, hellish_fortress and overworldian_nights. The recipes below show the exact in-pack ingredients.[2]

How do you progress through Gateways To Eternity?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 4.10 guide

The sources for this pack don't show a tier ladder for Gateways To Eternity. The recipe dump shows the mod making one item, the Gate Pearl. Every recipe listed is a gate recipe, and each one turns its own set of ingredients into a Gate Pearl.[4]

The only structure the sources give you is in the recipe ids. They fall into a basic/ group, an endless/ recipe, and standalone names. The sources don't rank these groups against each other, so use them to sort the recipes, not as a progression order.[4]

Basic gate pearls

The recipe ids with the basic/ prefix are named after blaze, enderman and slime. Here are the in-pack recipes for each one.[4]

Endless gate pearl

There is also a blaze recipe filed under endless/. Its id keeps it apart from the basic blaze recipe, but the sources don't say how these gateways differ in difficulty or rewards.[4]

Named gate pearls

The remaining recipes use standalone names: Emerald Grove, Hellish Fortress and Overworldian Nights. The sources don't place them in any tier order, so pick whichever gateway you want and check its recipe first.[4]
