What is Gateways To Eternity?

3 parts

Gateways To Eternity adds gateways: you open one with a Gate Pearl, fight off waves of monsters, and collect rewards at the end. This pack includes version 5.1.0, and the mod has been in the pack since 1.0 or earlier.[1][2]

Early game: free animals

You first meet the mod in Chapter 1, in the quest "Free Mobs!!!" quest, which unlocks after the Hostile Mobs quest. It asks for a Gate Pearl. The quest says you'll need an Eye of Ender to make it, and that you have to fight waves of monsters. The reward for this particular gate is 6 of each farm animal. Other gates give different monsters and different rewards.[2]

World Tier gateways

In this pack, Apotheosis is integrated with Gateways. There is a gateway for each World Tier except Haven, and each one only works within its own tier. When you beat the final wave you get a variety of rewards that help you finish that tier. Unlike other gateways, these give you a total of 3 lives. You'll find this in the Apotheosis Gear chapter, starting with a quest in "Apotheosis Gear", which comes after World Tier: Frontier.[3]

The Pinnacle gateway

The quest a quest in "Apotheosis Gear" comes after World Tier: Pinnacle. It gives you a Gate Pearl by clearing the Pinnacle Gateway, which comes with the sacrifice of Craig the Eternal, a creature with a lot of health. This gateway summons an endless stream of increasingly scaling waves, with less and less time between each one. It can spawn Invaders from any dimension, not just the one you used it in. That means you can get gems normally exclusive to other dimensions, such as Endersurge Gems outside of The End. The quest text mentions a reward for beating 100 waves, but the text is cut off in the sources I have.[3]

Unverified The sources do not show Gateways To Eternity on the ATM Star quest path, and no in-jar guidebook was available, so the exact rewards and wave contents of each gateway are unconfirmed.

How do you get started with Gateways To Eternity?

3 parts

Gateways To Eternity is all about the Gate Pearl. You use one on a block to summon a Gateway, fight off its waves of monsters, and collect the rewards. So your first job in this pack is simply to craft a Gate Pearl and put it to use.[2][4]

There is more than one Gate Pearl recipe, and each one opens a different Gateway with its own monsters and rewards.[2][5]

Before you place one

  • A Gateway can't be opened too close to another Gateway, because the pearl checks the current spacing.[4]
  • An open Gateway fails in a burst of lightning if it can't spawn a mob, if any active mob walks too far away, or if the wave timer runs out.[4]
  • Rewards spawn from the Gateway as you earn them.[4]

Your first pearl

The early quest "Free Mobs!!!" quest introduces Gateways as a way to get passive mobs and loot rewards. It's not exactly easy, since you have to survive waves of monsters, and you need an Eye of Ender to make the pearl. The quest says that gate gives 6 of each farm animal, and that different gates give different monsters and rewards.[2]

The basic Gateway pearls are the mod's own recipes, and the recipe dump lists them as mod recipes rather than pack changes. Here is one example that uses an Eye of Ender:[5]

Tier pearls come next

Apotheosis is integrated with Gateways here. Every World Tier except Haven has its own Gateway, with waves of monsters and Invaders. A tier's Gateway can only be used within that tier. Beating the final wave gives rewards that help you finish that tier, and unlike other Gateways you get a total of 3 lives.[3]

The quest a quest in "Apotheosis Gear" unlocks after World Tier: Frontier. The pack changed the recipe for the Frontier pearl, so use this one:[3][5]

The pack also changes the pearl recipes for the other tiers: Ascent, Summit and Pinnacle. Make each one when you reach its tier, because its Gateway can't be used outside that tier.[3][5]

Tip: Pinnacle is a long-term goal. Clearing the Pinnacle Gateway gives a different Gate Pearl, covered in the quest a quest in "Apotheosis Gear". It summons an endless stream of scaling waves and can spawn Invaders from any dimension, with 100 waves as the big target.[3]

How does Gateways To Eternity work?

3 parts

In this pack, the sources show Gateways to Eternity revolving around one item, the Gate Pearl, and the Gateway it opens. Nothing here describes machines, multiblocks, power or fluids for this mod. Here is what is confirmed.[4][5]

Opening a Gateway

You summon a Gateway by using a Gate Pearl on a block. The pearl only works if the new Gateway would not be too close to another Gateway, based on the current spacing. If there isn't enough room, the game tells you there's not enough space to open this Gateway.[4]

Once it is open, rewards spawn from the Gateway as they are obtained.[4]

How a Gateway fails

An open Gateway fails in a burst of lightning if it cannot spawn a mob, if any active mob walks too far away, or if the wave timer elapses. The mod has a specific message for each way it can implode, so you can tell what went wrong:[4]

  • No player nearby: the Gateway imploded because there was no player nearby.[4]
  • Out of lives: the Gateway imploded because you ran out of lives.[4]
  • Wave entity too far: a wave entity ran too far away.[4]
  • Wave timer: the message reads Wave Timer Expired.[4]
  • No room for the next wave: there was not enough space to spawn the next wave.[4]
  • Entity discarded: an entity was removed without being killed.[4]
Tip: Pick an open, flat area before you use a pearl. A Gateway can fail both when it opens and when it tries to spawn the next wave if there isn't enough space.[4]

Getting Gate Pearls

Many different recipes produce the Gate Pearl. The mod's own ones use its gate recipe type. The pack also has tiered ones, named ascent, frontier, summit and pinnacle, which are changed by the pack and use normal shaped crafting. Here are the tiered recipes.[5]

How do you progress through Gateways To Eternity?

4 parts

Gateways To Eternity gives you two kinds of Gate Pearl progression in this pack. One is the standalone gateways that hand out mobs and loot. The other is a set of gateways tied to the Apotheosis World Tiers, which is where the real progression happens.[2][3]

Early game: Free Mobs

Your first look at a gateway comes in the starting chapter with the quest "Free Mobs!!!" quest, which unlocks after Hostile Mobs. You fight off waves of monsters, and you need an Eye of Ender to make the pearl. Different gates give different monsters and rewards. This one gives you 6 of each farm animal.[2]

The standalone gateway recipes are the mod's own versions, not pack changes. For example, the Emerald Grove, Hellish Fortress and Overworldian Nights gates each have their own Gate Pearl recipe.[5]

World Tier gateways

In the Apotheosis Gear chapter, the quest a quest in "Apotheosis Gear" unlocks after World Tier: Frontier. It explains that Apotheosis is integrated with Gateways. There is a gateway for each World Tier except Haven. Each one sends waves of monsters and Invaders, and you can only use it within its own World Tier.[3]

When you beat the final wave, you get a variety of rewards that help you finish that World Tier. Unlike other gateways, these give you a total of 3 lives.[3]

Tip: The tiered gateways give you 3 lives, so a bad wave doesn't have to end your attempt. Prepare for the tier you're in, because each gateway only works there.[3]

Gate Pearl recipes per tier

The pack changed the recipe for each tiered Gate Pearl, so don't rely on what you know from the base mod. Here are the in-pack recipes for Frontier, Ascent, Summit and Pinnacle.[5]

The Pinnacle reward: endless waves

The quest a quest in "Apotheosis Gear" comes after the Apotheosis integration quest and World Tier: Pinnacle. Unlike other Gate Pearls, the pearl in this quest is obtained by clearing the Pinnacle Gateway. It comes with the sacrifice of Craig the Eternal, a creature with a lot of health.[3]

This gateway summons an endless stream of increasingly scaling waves, with less and less time between each one. It can spawn Invaders from any dimension, not just the one you used it in. That means you can get gems normally exclusive to other dimensions, such as Endersurge Gems outside of The End. The quest text points to a bigger reward if you can beat 100 waves, but the text available here cuts off before saying what it is.[3]

How does Gateways To Eternity work with other mods?

3 parts

In this pack, Gateways To Eternity is tied closely to Apotheosis. The Gate Pearl has crafting recipes built from Apotheosis materials, and the quest book describes gateways that follow Apotheosis World Tiers.[3][5]

Gate Pearl recipes

The recipe dump lists crafting recipes for the Gate Pearl registered under Apotheosis, named ascent, summit and pinnacle. All of them are marked as changed by the pack, so don't assume they match the mod's defaults. Between them they use Gem Dust, apotheosis:rare_material, apotheosis:epic_material and apotheosis:mythic_material.[5]

This one also pulls in two items from Apothic Enchanting.

The pinnacle recipe is the one that uses Infused Dragon's Breath and Warden Tendril, so it also connects Gateways with Apothic Enchanting. It additionally needs Sigil of Malice.[5]

World Tier gateways

A quest in the Apotheosis Gear chapter explains the link. Apotheosis is integrated with Gateways, and there are gateways based on each World Tier except Haven. They send waves of monsters and Invaders at you. Each one may only be used within its own World Tier. When you beat the final wave, you get a variety of rewards that help you finish that tier. Unlike other gateways, you get a total of 3 lives. See a quest in "Apotheosis Gear".[3]

The follow-up quest a quest in "Apotheosis Gear" covers the Pinnacle Gateway. It says this Gate Pearl is obtained by clearing that gateway, and that it comes with the sacrifice of Craig the Eternal, a creature with a lot of health. The gateway summons an endless stream of increasingly scaling waves, with less and less time between each one. It can spawn Invaders from any dimension, not just the one you used it in, so you can get gems normally exclusive to other dimensions, such as Endersurge Gems outside of The End. The quest also mentions a reward if you beat 100 waves.[3]

Tip: The Pinnacle Gateway is endless, with less and less time between waves, and its Invaders can come from any dimension. Prepare well before you start it.[3]

A farm animal gateway

In Chapter 1, the quest "Free Mobs!!!" quest comes after the Hostile Mobs quest and presents gateways as a way to get passive mobs and loot rewards. You have to fight off waves of monsters, and the quest says you'll need an Eye of Ender to make it. Different gates give different rewards and monsters, and this one gives 6 of each farm animal.[2]

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Gateways To Eternity?

2 parts

Gateways shows up in two places in the pack's questbook: an early quest in the starting chapter, and two quests in the Apotheosis Gear chapter. All three ask you to get a Gate Pearl. They go from a simple farm-animal gate early on to the endless Pinnacle gateway.[2][3]

Chapter 1: Starting out

"Free Mobs!!!" quest unlocks after the Hostile Mobs quest. It pitches Gateways as a way to get passive mobs and loot rewards, and it is honest that it isn't easy, because you have to fight off waves of monsters. You also need an Eye of Ender to make the pearl. This particular gate gives 6 of each farm animal, and the quest says different gates give different rewards and monsters.[2]

Apotheosis Gear

This chapter covers the Apotheosis integration. It adds Gateways tied to each World Tier, except Haven, with waves of monsters and Invaders. Each one can only be used within its own World Tier.[3]

  1. a quest in "Apotheosis Gear" comes after the World Tier: Frontier quest and asks for a Gate Pearl. Beating the final wave gives a variety of rewards that help you finish that World Tier. Unlike other Gateways, you get a total of 3 lives.[3]
  2. a quest in "Apotheosis Gear" comes after the previous quest and the World Tier: Pinnacle quest, and also asks for a Gate Pearl. This pearl is obtained by clearing the Pinnacle Gateway, which comes with the sacrifice of Craig the Eternal, a creature with a lot of health.[3]

The Pinnacle gateway summons an endless stream of increasingly scaling waves, with less and less time between each one. It can spawn Invaders from any dimension, not just the one you used it in. That means you can get gems normally exclusive to other dimensions, such as Endersurge Gems outside of The End.[3]

Tip: The Pinnacle quest text says that if you can beat 100 waves, you get a reward. Plan for a long fight, because the waves keep scaling and the gaps between them shrink.[3]

Unverified The Pinnacle quest text is cut off right after the 100-wave goal, so the reward for beating 100 waves could not be confirmed.
