What is Gateways To Eternity?
1 part
Gateways To Eternity adds wave-based fights to the pack. You open a gate, fight off the waves of monsters that come through, and get rewards for winning. Different gates bring different monsters and different rewards.[1]
The pack ships version 5.1.0 of the mod. It has been in the pack since 1.0 or earlier, so it's part of the core experience and not a late addition.[2]
Where it fits in progression
You meet the mod early, in Chapter 1 (Starting out). The quest "Free Mobs!!!" quest unlocks after the Hostile Mobs quest, and its task is to get a Gate Pearl. That means you should already be comfortable fighting mobs before you try a gate.[1]
The quest pitches gateways as a way to get passive mobs and loot rewards. It also warns that it isn't really easy, because you have to survive waves of monsters. The gate the quest points you to gives 6 of each farm animal, which is handy for setting up animal farms.[1]
Unverified The sources don't show any other gates, their rewards, or any further quests for this mod, so those details aren't covered here. The mod also isn't on the ATM Star quest path.
How do you get started with Gateways To Eternity?
3 parts
Everything in Gateways To Eternity starts with one item: the Gate Pearl. You use it on a block to summon a Gateway, then fight off the waves of monsters it spawns. Rewards spawn from the Gateway as you obtain them.[3]
The pack's first nudge toward gateways is the quest "Free Mobs!!!" quest in Chapter 1, Starting out. It comes right after the Hostile Mobs quest and asks you to get a Gate Pearl. The quest calls gateways a way to get passive mobs and loot rewards, admits it is not exactly easy, and says you will need an Eye of Ender to make the pearl. It also says different gates give different rewards and monsters, and that the gate it describes gives 6 of each farm animal.[1]
Your first Gate Pearl
Each gate has its own Gate Pearl recipe. This one is a mod recipe that takes an Eye of Ender, so it fits the quest's note about needing one.[1][4]

Running your first gate
- Finish the Hostile Mobs quest first, since Free Mobs!!! comes right after it.[1]
- Make a Gate Pearl. The quest says you need an Eye of Ender for it.[1]
- Pick an open spot and use the pearl on a block. It only works if the new Gateway would not be too close to another Gateway, based on the current spacing.[3]
- Fight off the waves of monsters. Rewards spawn from the Gateway as you obtain them.[1][3]
Other Gate Pearl recipes
The pack has more Gate Pearl recipes. These basic gates are marked as mod recipes, so the pack has not changed them.[4]

How does Gateways To Eternity work?
5 parts
Gateways To Eternity is built around one item: the Gate Pearl. You use it on a block to summon a Gateway. This page covers the rules the mod's own text spells out and how Gate Pearls are made in this pack.[3]
Opening a Gateway
A Gate Pearl can only be used when the new Gateway would not be too close to another Gateway, based on the current spacing. If there is not enough room, the game tells you there is not enough space to open the Gateway.[3]
How a Gateway fails
An open Gateway fails in a burst of lightning if it cannot spawn a mob, if any active mob walks too far away, or if the wave timer elapses. The mod has a specific message for each failure, so you can tell what went wrong.[3]
- No player nearby: the Gateway implodes because there was no player close by.[3]
- Out of lives: the Gateway implodes because you ran out of lives.[3]
- Wave entity too far: the Gateway implodes because a wave entity ran too far away.[3]
- Entity removed: the Gateway implodes because an entity was removed without being killed.[3]
- Wave Timer Expired: the wave timer ran out.[3]
- No room for the next wave: the Gateway implodes because there was not enough space to spawn it.[3]
Rewards
Rewards spawn from the Gateway as they are obtained, so you do not have to wait for the very end to see loot appear.[3]
The mod also has tooltip text for Endless Modifiers: one line shows a modifier as a position out of a total, and another shows how many Endless Modifiers there are. The sources here do not explain how those modifiers work.[3]
Crafting Gate Pearls
In this pack, Gate Pearls come from many different recipes. Most are the mod's own recipes of the gateways:gate_recipe type, covering the basic and endless entries plus a few named ones. All of them produce the same Gate Pearl item.[4]

How do you progress through Gateways To Eternity?
3 parts
In this pack, Gateways To Eternity revolves around one item, the Gate Pearl. Many different recipes produce a Gate Pearl, and the pack's quest text explains that different gates give different monsters and rewards.[1][4]
Where the quest book introduces it
The quest "Free Mobs!!!" quest sits in Chapter 1, "Starting out", and unlocks after the Hostile Mobs quest. Its task is to obtain a Gate Pearl. The quest says you have to fight off waves of monsters, that you need an Eye of Ender to make the pearl, and that this particular gate gives 6 of each farm animal.[1]
Gate Pearls from the mod
These recipes are the mod's own recipes, not changed by the pack. Each one makes a Gate Pearl, so you can compare what each gate asks of you.[4]

The tiered gate recipes
Some Gate Pearl recipes live under the Apotheosis namespace as tiered gates: frontier, ascent, summit and pinnacle. The pack has changed all of them, so what you craft here is the pack's version and not the mod's default. The later recipes pull in Apotheosis and Apothic Enchanting materials.[4]

How does Gateways To Eternity work with other mods?
2 parts
In this pack, Gateways To Eternity connects to other mods through one item: the Gate Pearl. The recipes I have show Gate Pearls being crafted with Apotheosis materials, and the pack has changed all of those recipes. So you'll be gathering Apotheosis loot to open gates.[4]
Gate Pearl recipes from Apotheosis
The Gate Pearl recipes live under the Apotheosis namespace and are named ascent, pinnacle and summit. Each one is a shaped crafting recipe, and each one uses Gem Dust.[4]

Ascent uses Apotheosis materials together with any ender pearl and any gold ingot.
Crafting Shaped

Recipe id: apotheosis:gateways/tiered/summit
Summit uses an Eye of Ender, Blaze Powder and a Ghast Tear alongside Apotheosis materials.
The pinnacle recipe reaches into a second mod. It uses Apothic Enchanting items, including Infused Dragon's Breath and Warden Tendril, along with Apotheosis materials such as apotheosis:mythic_material and Sigil of Malice.[4]
Crafting Shaped

Recipe id: apotheosis:gateways/tiered/pinnacle
Pinnacle is the Gate Pearl recipe that needs Apothic Enchanting items.
The quest connection
The quest "Free Mobs!!!" quest in Chapter 1: Starting out comes after the Hostile Mobs quest and asks you to obtain a Gate Pearl. Its text says gateways are a way to get passive mobs and loot rewards by fighting off waves of monsters, and that this gate gives 6 of each farm animal. It also says you need an Eye of Ender to make it. Of the recipes above, summit is the one that lists Ender Eye, but the quest text does not say which recipe it means.[1][4]
Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Gateways To Eternity?
1 part
Gateways To Eternity shows up in one quest in this pack, and it's in Chapter 1: Starting out. That makes it an early-game feature you can get into pretty quickly.[1]
Chapter 1: Starting out
The quest is "Free Mobs!!!" quest. It comes after the Hostile Mobs quest in the same chapter, so you'll deal with that one first. Its task is the Gate Pearl.[1]
The quest text sells gateways as a way to get passive mobs and loot rewards, then admits it's not exactly easy: you have to fight off waves of monsters, and you need an Eye of Ender to make the gate. Different gates give different monsters and rewards. The gate this quest points you to gives 6 of each farm animal.[1]
Unverified The sources don't say how the Gate Pearl is obtained for this quest, whether it's crafted or found, so check in game. They also don't show any other quest chapters that involve this mod.
