What is Apotheosis?

1 part

Apotheosis is an RPG-style progression mod for vanilla gear. The pack includes version 8.8.0 of Apotheosis. Its Adventure module gives you procedurally generated loot with powerful bonuses, but it also brings tougher foes.[1][2][3]

The core idea is Affixes, bonuses that can be applied to any item from vanilla or other mods. Each affix item has a Rarity that decides which affixes it gets and how strong they are. Some items also have Sockets, which hold Gems for extra bonuses.[1][4][5][6]

The mod also adds World Tiers, a progression system for you, your gear and your enemies. There are five: Haven, Frontier, Ascent, Summit and Pinnacle. Increasing your World Tier gets you better loot and some direct bonuses, but it also increases the strength of every enemy in your world.[1][7]

Where the quest book puts it

The pack's quest book covers the mod in a chapter called "Apotheosis Gear", which has 30 quests. It starts with "Apotheosis Adventure" quest, which asks you for an Gem, the start of getting good gear. "Gem Dust" quest comes right after it.[8]

Several quests branch off Gem Dust: "Getting better Gems" quest (the Gem Cutting Table), "Simple Reforging Table" quest, "Vials and Sigils" quest and "Applying Gems (and others)" quest. "Salvaging Table" quest needs both Gem Dust and Applying Gems. After it come the rarity material quests such as "Mysterious Scrap Metals" quest and "Godforged Pearl" quest.[8]

The sigil quests follow Vials and Sigils, including "Sigil of Socketing" quest and "Sigil of Withdrawal" quest. The late-game "Augmenting Table" quest quest comes after "Sigil of Enhancement" quest and "Godforged Pearl" quest.[8]

The World Tier quests run as their own chain: "Invaders/Bosses and World Tiers" quest, then "World Tier: Haven" quest, "World Tier: Frontier" quest and "World Tier: Ascent" quest. a quest in "Apotheosis Gear" also follows Frontier. A few quests in this chapter didn't fit here, so check the quest book for the rest.[8]

How do you get started with Apotheosis?

5 parts

Apotheosis is all about affix gear, and in this pack everything starts with one humble item: a Gem. Here is the order I'd go in, and why each step unlocks the next.[3][8]

Step 1: Get a Gem and make Gem Dust

The first quest tells you to farm mobs, because gems are rare drops from any mob, and it calls them confirmed drops from Invaders. You can also find them in chest loot.[8][9]

Once you have a few, crush them with a falling anvil to get Gem Dust. The quest recommends sacrificing only Common and Uncommon gems for this. The mod's own page says your first two dust have to come from an anvil crushing two gems. After that you can switch to the Salvaging Table.[1][8][10]

Step 2: Build the Salvaging Table

Gem Dust is the key ingredient for your first station, the Salvaging Table. It gives you Gem Dust without anvils, and it breaks affix gear down into Rarity Materials, which you'll need for almost everything else.[8][11][12]

The material you get depends on the item's rarity. Common gives Mysterious Scrap Metal, Uncommon gives Timeworn Fabric, Rare gives Luminous Crystal Shard, Epic gives Arcane Sands, and Mythic gives Godforged Pearl.[8][11]

Step 3: Craft Gem-Fused Slate

Gem-Fused Slate is the base for the sigils in the next steps. It's cheap and made from Gem Dust, so make a stack of it.[8][12]

Step 4: Upgrade gems and reforge gear

The Gem Cutting Table upgrades your gems. You combine two gems of the same purity with Rarity Materials, and the better gem is more powerful. Upgrades usually cost Gem Dust too, and JEI shows the exact cost.[8][13]

Then craft the Simple Reforging Table. It works like an Enchanting Table, but for affixes. You put the item in the center slot and Rarity Materials in the top-left slot, and you get three choices, with the second and third costing more. It can only reach Rare affixes, which is fine for early game.[8][14]

Reforging also burns fuel in the form of Sigil of Rebirth, which the quest calls relatively easier to craft.[8][14]

Step 5: Add sockets

Gems only work in sockets. If your gear has none, combine it with a Sigil of Socketing in a Smithing Table to get up to 2 sockets. Then you can socket gems the same way.[8][9]

Tip: Once you're comfortable, the quests point you to the Reforging Table for Epic and Mythic affixes, and to the Augmenting Table, the end-game station for fine-tuning individual affixes.[8][15]
Tip: The mod's page says the in-game guidebook, the Chronicle of Shadows, can be made with a book and a gold ingot. It also warns that modpacks can change content, so I haven't checked that recipe against this pack.[1]

How does Apotheosis work?

5 parts

The Apotheosis stations are all driven by item slots, special fuel items called sigils, and experience. The sources describe a handful of them: a Salvaging Table, a Reforging Table, an Augmenting Table, a Gem Cutting Table and a Gem Case. Here is how each one works in this pack.[11][13][14][15][16]

Salvaging and Gem Dust

The Salvaging Table breaks affix items down into Rarity Materials, and the material you get depends on the item's rarity. These materials are the currency for everything else in this section.[11][17]

The same table can also break gems down into Gem Dust, but you have to prime it first. Your first two dust come from crushing two gems with an anvil: drop a gem into the world and make an Anvil fall on it. After that, use the Salvaging Table instead.[1][10][17]

Reforging

Reforging gives an item brand new affixes, and it works on any valid item, not only ones that already have affixes. Start with the Simple Reforging Table, which handles items up to Rare. For Epic or higher you need to upgrade it into a Reforging Table.[14]

Recipe id: apotheosis:reforging_table

The Reforging Table is crafted from the Simple Reforging Table.

The table has three input slots. The center slot holds the item you want to reforge. The top-left slot holds Rarity Materials for the rarity you want to reforge with. The bottom-right slot holds Sigil of Rebirth, the fuel item for reforging.[12][14]

Once the inputs are in, the table offers three choices, like an Enchanting Table does. Each choice is a possible new form of the item, and none is inherently stronger than the others. Each rarity has a base cost in experience, sigils and materials, and the extra choice slots charge double and triple that base cost. Click the choice you want to reforge. You can reforge the same item as many times as you like. The table's tooltip also shows its maximum rarity.[14][17]

Augmenting

The Augmenting Table is an end-game station for working on single affixes, so you can upgrade or reroll one affix and leave the rest of the item intact. It is built around an Enchanting Table, a Nether Star and Godforged Pearls.[12][15]

It has two input slots. The upper one holds the affix item, and the guide suggests augmenting items of at least Mythic rarity, though Epic ones are worth considering. The lower slot holds Sigil of Enhancement, the fuel for augmenting. After that you pick the affix you want from the drop-down menu.[15]

  • Upgrade: costs two Sigils of Enhancement and raises the internal strength of the selected affix by 25%. How much that helps depends on the affix.[15]
  • Reroll: costs one Sigil of Enhancement and swaps the selected affix for another of the same type. The alternatives are listed on the left.[15]
  • The upgrade button also shows an experience cost in levels next to the sigil cost. The screen warns you when an affix is already at max level or has no alternatives.[17]

Gems: cutting, storing and socketing

Every gem has a purity, from Cracked up to Perfect, and purity alone sets its strength. The Gem Cutting Table upgrades gems. An upgrade usually costs Gem Dust, Rarity Materials and a second gem of the same purity, and a Perfect gem cannot be upgraded any further.[9][13]

Tip: Stronger gems need more Gem Dust and higher-tier Rarity Materials. The exact cost of any upgrade can be checked in JEI.[13]

The Gem Case stores gems, up to thirty two thousand of each type and purity, according to the guide. It has a name filter and an item filter, which finds gems that fit a specific item. It also has six auxiliary slots for upgrade materials. With enough materials and gems you can upgrade gems right inside the case, which makes the Gem Cutting Table effectively obsolete.[16]

The Gem Case of House Fabergé has a storage capacity of two billion. You cannot craft it directly. You make it with Infusion Enchanting, and the pack changes that infusion recipe.[12][16]

The pack changes this infusion, which turns a Gem Case into the Gem Case of House Fabergé.

To socket a gem, combine it with the item in a Smithing Table. You can also right-click the item while holding the gem. Each gem states which items it fits, and Unique gems can only be socketed once per item. To remove socketed gems, combine the item with a Sigil of Withdrawal in a Smithing Table, and the item and all its gems come back. If an item has no sockets, Sigil of Socketing can add one.[1][9]

Infusion-made items and spawner runes

Infusion Enchanting is a crafting method run through the Enchanting Table. Each infusion recipe takes a single item and three stat requirements, and only the third slot is used. Several Apotheosis items in this pack are made this way, and the pack changes their recipes, including God-Fused Pearl and Infused Spawner Rune.[12][18]

How do you progress through Apotheosis?

7 parts

Progression for Apotheosis in this pack runs on the World Tier you unlock by gearing up and the crafting chain you build along the way. They feed each other, so it helps to see both before you start.[20][21]

World Tiers

There are five tiers: Haven, Frontier, Ascent, Summit and Pinnacle. A tier is a per-player modifier. Each one raises enemy strength and reward quality, and shifts which rarities and gems can show up.[21]

Tiers do not switch on by themselves. After you unlock one, open the World Tier Select screen (CTRL+T by default), click the tier and press Activate. You can switch tiers whenever you like. The Detailed Info button shows the rarity and purity weights for each tier.[22]

  1. Haven is enabled by default, but you won't see it until you pick up your first Affix Item.[20]
  2. Frontier: equip an Affix Item in every armor slot and hold an Affixed Weapon in either hand.[20]
  3. Ascent: equip a full set of Uncommon Affix Items, including a weapon, and slay an Apothic Invader.[20]
  4. Summit: get a full set of Rare Affix Items and slay the Wither.[20]
  5. Pinnacle: get a full set of Epic items and free The End by slaying the Ender Dragon.[20]

Which rarities show up where

The quest texts describe where each rarity shows up, so you know roughly what to expect as you climb:[8]

  • The quest text says Common is most frequent in Haven and stops appearing after Summit.[8]
  • The quest text says Uncommon starts in Haven, is most abundant in Frontier and stops in Pinnacle.[8]
  • The quest text says Rare appears in all tiers but is most common in Ascent.[8]
  • The quest text says Epic appears after Frontier and is most common in Pinnacle.[8]
  • The quest text says Mythic is found only in Summit and Pinnacle, and is most common in Pinnacle.[8]

The gear path

Here are the steps in the order the quest book currently lays them out:[8]

  1. Get a Gem. The quest says gems are rare drops from any mob and confirmed drops from Invaders, which it covers later, so for now it tells you to farm mobs ("Apotheosis Adventure" quest).[8]
  2. Make Gem Dust by smashing a gem under a falling anvil. The quest text recommends using only Common and Uncommon gems for this ("Gem Dust" quest).[8]
  3. Craft the Salvaging Table. The quest text says it can get you materials and Gem Dust without anvils ("Salvaging Table" quest).[8]
  4. Craft the Simple Reforging Table, which the quest compares to an enchanting table for affixes. With it you can only get up to Rare affixes ("Simple Reforging Table" quest).[8]
  5. Upgrade to the Reforging Table, which the quest text says adds Epic and Mythic affixes ("(Better) Reforging Table" quest).[8]
  6. Finish with the Augmenting Table, which the quest text calls what you need for perfect affixes ("Augmenting Table" quest).[8]

Salvaging gives you one material per rarity: Mysterious Scrap Metal from Common, Timeworn Fabric from Uncommon, Luminous Crystal Shard from Rare, Arcane Sands from Epic and Godforged Pearl from Mythic. Each of these feeds a later step. For example, the Reforging Table uses Arcane Sands, and the Augmenting Table uses a Godforged Pearl.[12]

Endgame: Augmenting

The Augmenting Table is the end-game station. It upgrades or rerolls a single affix and leaves the rest intact. Rerolling costs one Sigil of Enhancement and an upgrade costs two, boosting that affix's internal strength by 25%. Typically you should only augment items of at least Mythic rarity, though Epic ones are worth considering.[15]

The quests also mention the Sigil of Supremacy, which can't be crafted. It strengthens every affix on a piece of gear, and you get it by beating 100 waves of the Endless Gateway of Apothic Invaders.[8]

Upgrade templates

Apotheosis also gives you upgrade templates for smithing, so you can upgrade gear while keeping its enchants and affixes. The quest chain points you at the diamond one first ("Diamond Upgrade Template" quest).[23]

Enchanting Table levels

Your table level climbs through shelf upgrades, and the in-game guide lays out the milestones:[24][25][26][27]

  • Level 30 takes the usual fifteen bookshelves.[24]
  • Level 45 comes from Hellshelves, or Seashelves if you'd rather avoid the Nether.[25]
  • Level 60 comes from infusing those shelves and building more.[25]
  • Level 70 needs a Level 60 table and an infused Deepshelf.[26]
  • Level 75 means upgrading your Deepshelves with Echo Shards from the Ancient City and Sculk collected with Silk Touch.[26]
  • Level 80 requires slaying the Warden, which lets you craft Sculkshelves.[26]
  • Level 90 needs a Level 80 table plus Infused Dragon's Breath.[27]
  • Level 100 is the maximum, and a single Draconic Endshelf gets you from 90 to 100. You need a Dragon Head from the outer End to make one.[27]

Maxing your Eterna at 100 also unlocks infusing a God-Fused Pearl ("God-Fused Pearl" quest), and the pack lets you infuse a Gem Case into a Gem Case of House Fabergé. The normal Gem Case holds up to 32,768 of each unique gem and purity, while the House Fabergé version holds about 2.1 billion.[12][28]

Spawner upgrade tiers

Spawner Upgrade Runes are a four-step ladder. Each one sets several stats at once instead of nudging a single one. All four recipes are changed by the pack, so don't rely on older guides. The stats are listed here as minimum delay, maximum delay, spawn count, max entities and activation range.[12][29]

How does Apotheosis work with other mods?

In this pack, Apotheosis connects to other mods through recipes the pack has changed. Don't assume these match a default install, because the recipe dump marks every one of them as changed by the pack.[12]

Create: Enchantment Industry

This is the biggest crossover. The Gem Cutter, the Affix Augmentor and the Infuser each mix Apotheosis items with Create parts. Create's Nixie Tube and Spout are the Create-side items you will meet in these recipes, and the recipe blocks below show exactly how each machine is put together.[12]

Apothic Enchanting and vanilla items

Apotheosis is split into several modules, and Apothic Enchanting is one of them, so its items show up in high-end Apotheosis recipes. The Enchanting Table of the Raven is an upgrade of the Apothic Enchanting Table, and the God-Fused Pearl is its Apotheosis part. The exact in-pack recipe is below.[1][12]

Tip: Every recipe in this section is marked as changed by the pack, so check the recipe in JEI instead of relying on what you remember from a default Apotheosis install.[12]

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Apotheosis?

4 parts

Apotheosis shows up in the Apotheosis Gear, Apothic Spawners, Apothic Enchanting and Chapter 2: The Cool Parts quest chapters in this pack. Below I go through each one and the order the quests unlock in.[8][23][28][29]

Apotheosis Gear

This is the main gear chapter, and it starts with "Apotheosis Adventure" quest. You hand in an Gem, which the quest says drops rarely from any mob and is a confirmed drop from Invaders. Next comes "Gem Dust" quest, where you smash a Gem under a falling Anvil to get Gem Dust.[8]

Gem Dust opens several branches. They all unlock after it:[8]

After the Salvaging Table you get one quest per rarity material: "Mysterious Scrap Metals" quest (Common), "Timeworn Fabric" quest (Uncommon), "Luminous Crystal Shard" quest (Rare), "Arcane Sands" quest (Epic) and "Godforged Pearl" quest (Mythic). Each material comes from salvaging items of that rarity. Once you have Arcane Sands and the Simple Reforging Table, "(Better) Reforging Table" quest asks for the Reforging Table, which also gives Epic and Mythic affixes.[8]

The sigil quests all follow Vials and Sigils: "Sigil of Enhancement" quest, "Sigil of Socketing" quest, "Sigil of Rebirth" quest, "Sigil of Unnaming" quest, "Sigil of Withdrawal" quest and a quest in "Apotheosis Gear". Once you have the Sigil of Enhancement and the Godforged Pearl, "Augmenting Table" quest asks for the Augmenting Table.[8]

Tip: a quest in "Apotheosis Gear" asks for the Sigil of Supremacy. The quest says it can't be crafted and is earned by beating 100 waves of the Endless Gateway of Apothic Invaders. The Sigil of Malice quest says nobody knows how to craft it either, and rumors say Invaders drop it.[8]

Apothic Spawners

"Blowing up Spawners" quest starts this chapter. You blow up a spawner with TNT to collect Spawner Chain. The quest says that at the time of writing you get 48-57 chains. a quest in "Apothic Spawners" then asks for the base Spawner Rune, and the rest of the chapter branches from it.[29]

The basic modifier runes are "Quiet down you'll wake up the mobs!" quest, "Redstone Active" quest, "Ignore Light" quest, "Spawn Range" quest, "Burning" quest, "Youthful" quest and "Health" quest. The first two upgrade runes sit on this same branch, and each one sets several stats at once:[29]

The advanced branch begins with a quest in "Apothic Spawners" and the Infused Spawner Rune. The quest says you need at least 70 Eterna, 30% Quanta and 50% Arcana in an Enchanting Table. After it come "Echoing" quest, "Ignore Players" quest, "Ignore All Conditions" quest and "No AI" quest. The last two upgrade tiers also unlock here:[29]

Apothic Enchanting

"Gem Case" quest asks for the Gem Case, which the quest says holds up to 32,768 of each unique Gem and Purity. "Infusing Spawner Runes" quest repeats the Infused Spawner Rune requirements and comes after the Other Infusion Items and To reach the Summit quests.[28]

"Gem Case of House Fabergé" quest follows the Gem Case and the Ahh, Pinnacle, at last quest. It asks for the Gem Case of House Fabergé, which the quest says holds 2.1 Billion of each unique Gem and is made by infusing the Gem Case. "God-Fused Pearl" quest comes after the Draconic Endshelf quest and asks for the God-Fused Pearl. It needs 100 Eterna, 9.65-11.00% Quanta and 58.75-60.0% Arcana.[28]

Chapter 2: The Cool Parts

This chapter has a short Apotheosis line that picks up after Apotheosis Adventure. It runs through "Gem Dust" quest and then a quest in "Chapter 2: The Cool Parts", another Salvaging Table quest that points you toward Luminous Crystal Shards from Rare items. The last quest, "Diamond Upgrade Template" quest, asks for the Smithing Template. The quest says it helps keep enchants and affixes on an item while you upgrade it.[23]
