What is Apotheosis?

2 parts

Apotheosis is a content mod that makes you stronger than ever while staying true to vanilla mechanics at heart. Its headline feature is Affixes, bonuses you can put on any item you find, whether it comes from vanilla or another mod. This pack includes Apotheosis 8.5.2.[1][2]

The part you'll mostly deal with here is the Adventure Module. It gives you procedurally generated loot with powerful bonuses, but it also brings new foes. If you want RPG-style progression without it taking over the game, this mod is for you.[1][3]

Every affix item has a rarity: Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic or Mythic. A higher rarity is always stronger, and it decides which affixes the item gets. Some items also have sockets, which hold Gems for extra bonuses.[1][4]

How the progression works

  1. Start with a Gem. Gems are rare drops from any mob and are confirmed drops from Invaders, according to the quest. The first quest in the pack's Apotheosis Gear chapter is "Apotheosis Adventure" quest.[5]
  2. Smash gems with a falling anvil to get Gem Dust. The quest recommends using only Common and Uncommon gems for this. You then use the dust to craft a Salvaging Table.[5]
  3. Use the Salvaging Table to break affix items down into rarity materials. Which material you get depends on the item's rarity, and the final tier is the apotheosis:mythic_material from Mythic items.[5][6]
  4. Use a Simple Reforging Table to reforge items with new affixes, up to Rare rarity. It runs on rarity materials and Sigil of Rebirth as fuel.[5][7]
  5. For Epic rarity or higher, upgrade it into a Reforging Table.[7]
  6. At the end of the road, the Augmenting Table lets you upgrade or reroll individual affixes. It costs a lot of experience and needs Sigil of Enhancement as fuel.[1][8]
Tip: If a weapon or armor piece has no sockets, combine it with a Sigil of Socketing in a Smithing Table. The quest says this can give you up to 2 sockets.[5]

World Tiers

Apotheosis also adds World Tiers, a progression system for you, your gear and your enemies. There are five: Haven, Frontier, Ascent, Summit and Pinnacle. Higher tiers give better loot, but they also make every enemy in your world stronger. Summit is only available after you slay the Wither, and Pinnacle is the best source of Mythic items.[1]

The quests in the pack match this. Mythic items only show up in Summit and Pinnacle, so the Godforged Pearl really is a late-game material.[5]

If you want the full details in-game, the mod's guidebook, the Chronicle of Shadows, covers everything and works alongside JEI. Content the pack disables won't show up in it.[1]

How do you get started with Apotheosis?

6 parts

Apotheosis is all about affix items and gems. You find them, break them down into rarity materials, and use those materials to build better gear. Here is the order I'd go in.[1]

Step 1: Get a gem

The pack's quest chapter starts with an Gem. The quest says gems are rare drops from any mob and confirmed drops from Invaders, and its advice for now is to farm mobs. Gems can also turn up in chest loot.[5][9]

Step 2: Crush it into Gem Dust

Crush a gem with an anvil to get Gem Dust. Your first two dust come from anvil-crushing two gems. After that you can use the Salvaging Table instead. Gem Dust is an ingredient in many of the recipes below.[1][10][11]

Step 3: Build the Salvaging Table

The Salvaging Table is your first real station. It breaks affix items down into rarity materials and turns gems into Gem Dust, so you no longer need anvils. Once it's running, you can salvage tools and armor with affixes. The material you get matches the item's rarity.[5][6][10]

Salvaging Common items gives apotheosis:common_material, and Uncommon items give apotheosis:uncommon_material. Rare items give apotheosis:rare_material. Epic items give apotheosis:epic_material, and Mythic items give apotheosis:mythic_material.[5][6]

Step 4: Make Gem-Fused Slate

Gem-Fused Slate is an ingredient in several sigils and in the upgrade smithing templates.[11]

Step 5: Set up reforging

The Simple Reforging Table works much like an enchanting table, but for affixes. Put the item you want to reforge in the center slot and the rarity materials in the top-left slot. You're offered three choices, and the extra choices cost double and triple the base cost. The simple version reforges items up to Rare rarity.[7]

Reforging also uses a fuel item, the Sigil of Rebirth, which goes in the bottom-right slot.[5][7]

Where to go next

  • The Gem Cutting Table upgrades gems. An upgrade usually costs Gem Dust, rarity materials and a second gem of the same purity, and purity determines a gem's strength.[9][12]
  • The Sigil of Socketing adds sockets to gear so it can hold gems. Combine it with the item in a Smithing Table.[5]
  • The Sigil of Withdrawal removes socketed gems from an item. Combine them in a smithing table and both the item and the gems are returned.[9]
  • The Reforging Table is the upgrade of the simple one. You need it to reforge items of Epic rarity or higher.[7]
  • The Augmenting Table is the end-game station for upgrading or rerolling single affixes, and it uses Sigil of Enhancement as fuel.[8]
Tip: The in-game guidebook, the Chronicle of Shadows, and JEI cover every detail. Keep in mind that modpacks can change costs, so trust what JEI shows for this pack.[1][7]
Watch out: Don't hunt for crafting recipes for the Sigil of Malice or the Sigil of Supremacy. According to the pack's quests, neither can be crafted. Supremacy comes from beating 100 waves of the Endless Gateway of Apothic Invaders.[5]

How does Apotheosis work?

6 parts

Apotheosis keeps its machinery simple: a handful of crafting stations that you feed items, and some that also take experience. Here is how each one works in this pack, from breaking loot down to rebuilding it better.[6][7][8]

Salvaging Table

The Salvaging Table breaks Affix Items down into Rarity Materials, which the reforging and gem cutting stations use later. Which material you get depends on the rarity of the item you salvage.[6][13]

  • Common items give apotheosis:common_material.[6][11]
  • Uncommon items give apotheosis:uncommon_material.[6][11]
  • Rare items give apotheosis:rare_material.[6][11]
  • Epic items give apotheosis:epic_material.[6][11]
  • Mythic items give apotheosis:mythic_material, which may only be obtained through salvaging mythic items.[6][11]

The same table also turns gems of every purity into Gem Dust. Your very first Gem Dust has to be made by hand, though: drop an Apothic Gem in the world and let an anvil fall on it. After that, use the Salvaging Table.[10][11][13]

Reforging

Reforging gives an item brand new affixes. It works on any valid item, including ones with no affixes yet, and you can reforge the same item multiple times. Start with the Simple Reforging Table, which handles items up to Rare. For Epic and higher you need to upgrade it into the Reforging Table.[7]

The table has three input slots. The item goes in the center, Rarity Materials for the rarity you want go in the top-left, and Sigil of Rebirth goes in the bottom-right as fuel.[7][13]

Reforging works like an Enchanting Table. You are offered three choices, and none of them is inherently stronger than the others. Each rarity has a base cost in experience, sigils and materials, and the extra choice slots charge double and triple that base cost. Click the choice you want to reforge.[7]

Tip: Modpacks can change reforging costs or prevent reforging at certain rarities, so read the real costs in the table's interface before you commit materials.[7]

Gem Cutting Table

The Gem Cutting Table upgrades gems. An upgrade usually costs Gem Dust, Rarity Materials and a second gem of the same purity. Purity runs from Cracked to Perfect, and a Perfect gem can't be upgraded any further.[9][12]

Higher purities cost more Gem Dust and higher-tier Rarity Materials. The exact cost of any upgrade can be seen in JEI.[12]

Gem Case

The Gem Case is storage built for gems. It holds up to thirty two thousand gems of each type and purity, and it can be upgraded to hold more. It has a name filter and an item filter. The item filter shows only gems that fit a specific item.[14]

It also has six auxiliary slots for upgrade materials. If the materials and gems are in the case, you can upgrade gems right there by following the purity upgrade recipes. That effectively makes the Gem Cutting Table obsolete.[14]

Socketing and removing gems

To socket a gem, combine the item and the gem in a Smithing Table, with the item on the left and the gem on the right. Each gem lists the items it can fit in, and some gems are Unique, meaning only one copy can be socketed in an item. Removing a socketed gem is costly, so choose carefully.[9][13]

Augmenting Table

The Augmenting Table is an end-game station that works on individual affixes, so you can upgrade or reroll one affix and leave the rest intact. The upper slot takes the affix item. The lower slot takes Sigil of Enhancement, its fuel. Then you pick the affix from the drop-down menu. Typically you should only augment items of at least Mythic rarity, though Epic ones are worth considering too.[8][13]

  • Upgrade: costs two Sigils of Enhancement and raises the internal strength of the chosen affix by 25%. How much that helps varies per affix.[8]
  • Reroll: costs one Sigil of Enhancement and swaps the chosen affix for another of the same type. The alternatives are shown on the left.[8]

How do you progress through Apotheosis?

7 parts

Apotheosis progression in this pack runs through the Apotheosis Gear questline, and it all starts with a Gem ("Apotheosis Adventure" quest). The quest says gems are rare drops from any mob and confirmed drops from Invaders. It promises to explain Invaders later, so for now the quest only asks you to farm mobs.[5]

Gem Dust and the Salvaging Table

Next up is Gem Dust ("Gem Dust" quest). The quests say you get it by smashing a gem under a falling Anvil, and the first one recommends using only Common and Uncommon gems for this. The quests also say Gem Dust is needed for many recipes, including the ones below.[5][15]

Your first real station is the Salvaging Table ("Salvaging Table" quest). It gets you materials and Gem Dust without anvils, and you can recycle tools and armor with affixes to get their materials. The material you receive depends on the rarity of the item you salvage.[5]

Rarity materials

The quests say that salvaging an affixed item gives you the material for its rarity. Each material has its own quest, and each quest describes which World Tiers that rarity appears in.[5]

  • Common, apotheosis:common_material ("Mysterious Scrap Metals" quest): the quest calls it the most basic rarity. It shows up most in World Tier Haven and stops appearing after Summit.[5]
  • Uncommon, apotheosis:uncommon_material ("Timeworn Fabric" quest): the quest says it starts appearing in Haven, is most abundant in Frontier, and stops in Pinnacle.[5]
  • Rare, apotheosis:rare_material ("Luminous Crystal Shard" quest): the quest says it appears in all World Tiers but is most common in Ascent.[5]
  • Epic, apotheosis:epic_material ("Arcane Sands" quest): the quest says it appears after Frontier and is most common in Pinnacle.[5]
  • Mythic, apotheosis:mythic_material ("Godforged Pearl" quest): the quest says it is found only in Summit and Pinnacle, and is most common in Pinnacle.[5]

Gem upgrades and reforging

The quest for the Gem Cutting Table ("Getting better Gems" quest) says you can change a gem's rarity at this table. By using 2 of the same gem plus rarity materials, you can increase its rarity, and the quest says that increases its power.[5]

The Simple Reforging Table ("Simple Reforging Table" quest) works like an Enchanting Table, but for affixes. Put the item in the center slot and a rarity material in the left slot. The material decides the rarity of the affix. You get 3 choices, and the second and third cost more. The Simple table can only give you up to Rare affixes.[5]

Smithing templates

The pack uses Gem-Fused Slate as a building block for many recipes. The Diamond Upgrade Template quest ("Diamond Upgrade Template" quest) explains that Apotheosis adds upgrade templates from Stone to Diamond, and that they help you keep enchants and affixes on an item while upgrading it. The recipes below are the in-pack ones.[11][15]

Sigils

Sigils change your affixed items. The "Vials and Sigils" quest ("Vials and Sigils" quest) says they are used with your item in a Smithing Table, Reforging Table or Augmenting Table. These are the ones you can craft:[5]

Two more sigils have no crafting recipe. The quest for Sigil of Malice (a quest in "Apotheosis Gear") says nobody knows how to craft it, and rumors say Invaders drop it. Players found it can cost the gear an affix while making another affix stronger. Sigil of Supremacy (a quest in "Apotheosis Gear") also cannot be crafted, but it strengthens every affix on the gear without sacrificing any. You get it by beating 100 waves of the Endless Gateway of Apothic Invaders.[5]

Endgame: the Augmenting Table

The Augmenting Table ("Augmenting Table" quest) is how you get perfect affixes. It comes after the Sigil of Enhancement and Godforged Pearl quests. With it you can reroll affixes, choose a specific affix, or upgrade set affixes. The in-game guide calls it an end-game station and suggests augmenting items of at least Mythic rarity, though Epic ones are also worth considering.[5][8]

In the in-game guide, an upgrade costs two Sigils of Enhancement and raises the internal strength of the current affix by 25%, and how much that helps varies per affix. A reroll costs one Sigil of Enhancement and swaps the selected affix for another of the same type.[8]

World Tiers

World Tiers are a per-player strength modifier. There are five of them: Haven, Frontier, Ascent, Summit and Pinnacle. Higher tiers make enemies stronger, and higher-rarity items and Invaders become more common as you climb. A tier must be unlocked through advancements and then activated with the Activate button on the World Tier Select Screen, which opens with CTRL+T by default. Haven is enabled by default.[16][17][18]

These are the default unlock requirements from the in-game guide. The guide notes that modpacks may change them and points to the Apothic World Tiers advancements tab for the full information.[17]

  • Haven: unlocked by default, but you will not see it until you pick up your first Affix Item.[17]
  • Frontier: equip an Affix Item in each armor slot and hold an Affixed Weapon in either hand.[17]
  • Ascent: equip a full set of Uncommon Affix Items, including a weapon, and slay an Apothic Invader.[17]
  • Summit: acquire a full set of Rare Affix Items and slay the Wither.[17]
  • Pinnacle: obtain a full set of Epic items and slay the Ender Dragon.[17]

How does Apotheosis work with other mods?

2 parts

The clearest link between Apotheosis and another mod in this pack is Gateways. The pack has Apotheosis recipes that produce a Gate Pearl, and the recipe dump marks each one as changed by the pack, so they are not stock Apotheosis behavior.[11]

Gate Pearl recipes

There is one recipe per tier: Ascent, Summit and Pinnacle. Each one mixes Apotheosis materials with items from elsewhere, and the Pinnacle recipe also draws on Apothic Enchanting. Here are the exact in-pack recipes.[11]

Gate Pearl, Pinnacle tier. The pack changed this recipe. Its Apothic Enchanting side is Infused Dragon's Breath and Warden Tendril.

The Pinnacle recipe is the one to plan for. It uses a Sigil of Malice, and the quest for that sigil says no one knows how to craft it, with rumors that Invaders drop it.[5][11]

Gem Dust is the one ingredient all three recipes share, so keep a stack handy. The Gem Dust quest says you get it by smashing an Apotheosis Gem with a falling Anvil. The Salvaging Table quest adds that the table can give you Gem Dust without using anvils.[5][11]

Where the gateway pays off

The quest book ties Gateways to an Apotheosis reward. The Sigil of Supremacy quest is listed after a quest named Gate Pearl - Endless Gateway of Apothic Invaders. It says the sigil cannot be crafted and that you get it by beating 100 waves of that Endless Gateway.[5]

The same quest says the sigil strengthens every affix on a piece of gear without sacrificing any of them, which sets it apart from the Sigil of Malice.[5]

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Apotheosis?

4 parts

In the pack's quest book, Apotheosis appears in two chapters. The main one is "Apotheosis Gear", which starts with your first gem and, going by its quest order, reaches the Augmenting Table. A shorter chapter, "Chapter 2: The Cool Parts", covers the early salvaging steps and the Diamond Upgrade Template.[5][15]

Apotheosis Gear: the starting steps

  1. "Apotheosis Adventure" quest asks you to get an Gem. The quest text says gems are rare drops from any mob and confirmed drops from Invaders, and tells you to farm mobs for now, with more on Invaders later.[5]
  2. "Gem Dust" quest asks for Gem Dust. The quest says you get it by smashing a gem with a falling Anvil, and it recommends only Common and Uncommon gems for this.[5]
  3. After Gem Dust, the chapter branches into three quests. "Getting better Gems" quest asks for a Gem Cutting Table, which the quest says is used to raise a gem's rarity. "Simple Reforging Table" quest asks for a Simple Reforging Table. "Vials and Sigils" quest asks for a Gem-Fused Slate and leads into the sigil quests.[5]
  4. "Salvaging Table" quest asks for the Salvaging Table. It comes after Gem Dust and after a quest called "Applying Gems (and others)".[5]

The Simple Reforging Table quest says it is used like an Enchantment Table but with affixes, and that with it you can only get up to Rare affixes.[5]

Rarity materials

After the Salvaging Table, five quests each ask for one rarity material, which their texts say is made by salvaging items of that rarity: "Mysterious Scrap Metals" quest for apotheosis:common_material, "Timeworn Fabric" quest for apotheosis:uncommon_material, "Luminous Crystal Shard" quest for apotheosis:rare_material, "Arcane Sands" quest for apotheosis:epic_material and "Godforged Pearl" quest for apotheosis:mythic_material. The quest texts also say which World Tiers each rarity appears in.[5]

Two later quests build on these. "(Better) Reforging Table" quest asks for the Reforging Table and comes after the Arcane Sands and Simple Reforging Table quests. Its text says it can also give Epic and Mythic affixes. "Augmenting Table" quest asks for the Augmenting Table and comes after the Sigil of Enhancement and Godforged Pearl quests.[5]

The sigil quests

These sigil quests all come after "Vials and Sigils", apart from the Supremacy one. That quest's text says sigils are used on affixed items in a Smithing Table, Reforging Table or Augmenting Table.[5]

Chapter 2: The Cool Parts

This chapter repeats the early steps. "Gem Dust" quest asks for Gem Dust again, and a quest in "Chapter 2: The Cool Parts" asks for the Salvaging Table. The Salvaging Table quest points you toward Luminous Crystal Shards from salvaging Rare affixed items.[15]

The last quest here, "Diamond Upgrade Template" quest, asks for the Smithing Template. The text says Apotheosis adds upgrade templates from stone to diamond, and that they let you keep enchantments and affixes while upgrading an item. It also says you need this template to craft something else, but the text cuts off before naming it.[15]

Watch out: The two chapters don't use the same list of rarities. The Salvaging Table quest in Chapter 2 lists Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic and Legendary, while the Apotheosis Gear chapter has a Mythic quest and no Legendary one. Follow the Apotheosis Gear quests for the order and item names.[5][15]
