What is Cobblemon: Mega Showdown?

3 parts

Cobblemon: Mega Showdown is the mod that brings the big battle gimmicks to Cobblemon. It adds Mega Evolution, Z-Moves, Teralization, Dynamax and Gigantamax, Ultra Burst and Fusions, and it includes all 90+ Megas.[1]

If you love battling and want to push your team past its normal forms, this one is for you. It also covers form changes, riding support and cosmetic items.[1]

Gimmick slots and datapacks

All the gimmick items can be worn in their own dedicated Gimmick slots through the accessories integration. You don't have to choose between the different accessories mods you have installed.[1]

The mod is also built as a platform for datapacks. Its authors say you can add custom Megas, Gmax forms, Fusions, form changes, held items, status effects, conditions, weathers and battle scripts. That mostly matters if you want to make your own addons. The mod has its own wiki for addon creators.[1]

Version in this pack

This pack ships the NeoForge build 1.7.1+1.7.3+1.21.1-hotfix. The mod has been in the pack since 0.3.0-beta or earlier.[2]

Watch out: The mod's authors keep a list of known incompatible addons, datapacks and mods. Check it before you add extra ones to this pack.[1]

Where it fits in the progression

The mod shows up on the ATM Star path. The chapter "The ATM Star" has a quest, "Zygarde Cube" quest, whose task is to obtain the Zygarde Cube. The quest text just says "It's a cube, as all things should be." So if you're going for the ATM Star, you'll need to deal with this mod's content along the way.[3]

Unverified The sources don't say how to obtain the Zygarde Cube in this pack, or whether any other quests or progression steps depend on this mod. Check the quest in-game for details.

How do you get started with Cobblemon: Mega Showdown?

6 parts

Cobblemon: Mega Showdown adds Mega Evolution, Z-Moves, Teralization, Dyna/Gigantamax, Ultra Burst and Fusions to Cobblemon. In this pack many of the gimmick items are crafted, and a lot of those recipes were changed from the mod's defaults. So follow the recipe blocks on this page rather than any recipe you remember from the mod on its own.[1][4]

Tip: Every Mega Showdown gimmick item can be worn in its own Gimmick slot, so you don't have to fight with your other accessory mods over slots.[1]

The sources don't lay out a fixed progression, so this is a sensible order based on the recipes and advancements the pack ships. We start with Mega Evolution, then Dynamax, then Z-Crystals.[4][5]

First: go looking for a Mega Stone

The mod has an advancement for finding a Raw Mega Stone, plus a map that leads you to the lost stone. There are also advancements for finding the Megaroid or Mega Site structures. Keep an eye out for these early, because the Mega Stone recipes below all use Mega Stone as an ingredient.[4][5]

Then: craft a Mega bracelet

Brendan's Mega Cuff contains a Key Stone that works with Pokémon holding a Mega Stone. Archie's Anchor does the same job. The pack changed both recipes, so check the costs before you start gathering.[4][5]

Next: craft your first Mega Stone

Each Mega Stone is tied to one species. Charizardite X lets Charizard Mega Evolve into Mega Charizard X. The pack changed this recipe, and the other Mega Stone recipes shown in the sources, such as Abomasite, are changed by the pack too. There's an advancement for crafting any Mega Stone and another for collecting all types.[4][5]

After that: Dynamax Band and Dynamax Candy

For Dynamax, craft the Dynamax Band. The pack changed its recipe, and there's an advancement for crafting one. There's also an advancement for getting a Pokémon to Dynamax Level 10, and Dynamax Candy is the item to look at for that. Its recipe is the mod's own, unchanged.[4][5]

Finally: Z-Crystals

Type Z-Crystals let a Pokémon upgrade its moves of that type to Z-Moves. Buginium-Z is the Bug example. Its recipe is the mod's own, not changed by the pack. There are advancements for powering up a Pokémon with a Z-Move, for collecting every Z-Crystal, and for finding the Observatory or Archaeological Site structures.[4][5]

The pack also changes the recipe for Gladion's Z-Power Ring, and there's an advancement for obtaining the sparkling stone.[4][5]

The ATM Star quest: Zygarde Cube

The quest "Zygarde Cube" quest in the "The ATM Star" chapter asks you to hand in a Zygarde Cube. In this pack it's made in an Oritech assembler, and the recipe is changed by the pack.[3][4]

How does Cobblemon: Mega Showdown work?

6 parts

Same as in the All the Mons 1.0.0-rc.7 guide

The sources describe Mega Showdown as an addon to Cobblemon that adds Mega Evolution, Z-Moves, Teralization, Dynamax/Gigantamax, Ultra Burst and Fusions. So this section is about how those gimmick items work, not about machines, power or item automation.[1]

Mega Evolution

Each Mega Stone is tied to one species. For example, Abomasite lets Abomasnow Mega Evolve, and Charizardite X and Charizardite Y both let Charizard Mega Evolve, into different forms.[6][7]

Archie's Anchor and Brendan's Mega Cuff each contain a Key Stone that allows Pokémon holding a Mega Stone to do their thing. The sources here don't show the rest of that tooltip, so I can't tell you their exact rules.[6][7]

In this pack the recipes for Abomasite, Charizardite X, Charizardite Y, Archie's Anchor and Brendan's Mega Cuff are all marked as changed from the mod's versions. Here is the pack's Abomasite recipe:[7]

Z-Moves

Z-Crystals unlock Z-Moves. A type crystal such as Buginium-Z lets a Pokémon upgrade its Bug-type moves. Signature crystals like Aloraichium-Z are species-specific: it lets Alolan Raichu upgrade Thunderbolt into Stoked Sparksurfer.[6][7]

Tera and Dynamax

Tera Shards change a Pokémon's Tera Type to the matching type. A Dynamax Band allows Pokémon to Dynamax during battle, and Dynamax Candy raises a Pokémon's Dynamax Level to make it stronger when Dynamaxed. The advancement list mentions Dynamax Level 10 as a goal.[6]

Held items

Some items have their effect when held. Booster Energy boosts the strongest stat of a Pokémon with Protosynthesis or Quark Drive. Adrenaline Orb boosts Speed when the holder is intimidated. Burn Drive and Chill Drive change Genesect's Techno Blast to Fire-type and Ice-type respectively.[6][7]

The pack changes the recipes for Booster Energy, Burn Drive and Chill Drive from the mod's versions.[7]

Wearing gimmick items

All gimmick items can be worn in their own Gimmick slots through accessories integration, so you don't have to pick between the accessories mods you have installed.[1]

Finding stones in the world

The advancements point to world exploration too: finding a Raw Mega Stone, and locating a Megaroid or Mega Site and an Observatory or Archaeological Site. A lost map is also described as leading you to the lost stone. The sources don't say how these structures generate or how you get the map.[6]

The mod is also built to be datapacked, so the details of Megas, items and battle scripts can be changed by packs and addons.[1]

How do you progress through Cobblemon: Mega Showdown?

4 parts

Progression in this pack is mostly about stepping up through the gimmick items: Mega Evolution, Z-Moves, Dynamax and the Zygarde Cube. The sources I have show only one quest for this mod, so the stages below are my own grouping of how the in-pack recipes build on each other, not an official tier list.[3][4]

Keystone items and Mega Stones

Keystone is the base of the Mega trigger items. You can compress it into a Block of Keystone and turn the block back into Keystones. Trigger items such as Korrina's Gloves, Lisia Mega Tiara, Archie's Anchor and Brendan's Mega Cuff are built on a Keystone. The pack changed the recipes of all of those from the mod's defaults.[4]

Individual Mega Stones such as Abomasite, Gardevoirite and Charizardite X each have their own recipe, and the base item to know is Mega Stone. The pack changed these recipes, so don't trust any mod defaults you remember.[4]

Z-Crystals

Basic Z-Crystals use the mod's own recipes, not ones the pack changed, and Blank-Z is the item to look for in them. Examples are Firium-Z, Electrium-Z and Dragonium-Z.[4]

The Zygarde Cube quest

The one quest from this mod in the sources is "Zygarde Cube" quest, in the chapter "The ATM Star". Its task is to obtain the Zygarde Cube, and the quest text reads "It's a cube, as all things should be."[3]

The pack changed how the cube is made: it is crafted in an Oritech assembler instead of a crafting table, using ingredients from other mods. That makes it a cross-mod goal rather than something you finish with Mega Showdown parts alone.[4]

Tip: Check each recipe on this page before you gather materials. The pack changed many of them, including the Mega Stones, the trigger items, the Drive items, DNA Splicers and the Dynamax Band, so mod defaults will often be wrong here.[4]

How does Cobblemon: Mega Showdown work with other mods?

3 parts

Cobblemon: Mega Showdown adds Mega Evolution, Z-Moves, Dynamax and more to Cobblemon, so most of its crafting in this pack leans on Cobblemon items. It also meets the rest of the pack through one item, the Zygarde Cube.[1][4]

Cobblemon items in Mega Showdown recipes

Nearly every Mega Stone recipe in this pack pairs a Mega Stone with a Cobblemon item. For example, Abomasite uses Never-Melt Ice, and Aerodactylite uses Razor Claw. The pack changed these recipes, so don't rely on what you remember from the standalone mod.[4]

The gimmick gear works the same way. The bracelets and the Mega Ring are built around a Keystone and a Cobblemon Apricorn. The Red Mega Bracelet uses a Red Apricorn and the Blue Mega Bracelet uses a Blue Apricorn. The pack changed these recipes too.[4]

Z-Crystals lean on Cobblemon type Gems. Electrium-Z is made from an Electric Gem and a Blank-Z. These Z-Crystal recipes are listed as mod recipes, not pack changes. Upgraded crystals chain from another Z-Crystal plus a Cobblemon item, for example Aloraichium-Z from Electrium-Z and a Psychic Gem.[4]

Cobblemon items also go into the Dynamax gear. The pack changed the recipe for the Dynamax Band, which uses Cobblemon Apricorns, while Dynamax Candy is made from Exp. Candy S and a Max Mushroom.[4]

The Zygarde Cube and the ATM progression

Two recipes added by the pack use the Zygarde Cube as an ingredient: the Improbable Probability Device and the Oblivion Shard. Both also take items from several other mods, such as Singularity and Antimatter Pellet for the device, and Void Forge and Eternal Stella for the shard.[4]

The cube has its own quest, "Zygarde Cube" quest, in the "The ATM Star" chapter. The task is to obtain the Zygarde Cube, and the quest text reads "It's a cube, as all things should be."[3]

Accessories support

The mod says all of its gimmick items can be worn in their own gimmick slots, so you don't have to choose between the different accessories mods you have installed.[1]

Which All the Mons quests use Cobblemon: Mega Showdown?

Only one quest in this pack involves this mod, and it lives in the chapter "The ATM Star". So there's no long questline to follow here, just a single stop.[3]

The quest is "Zygarde Cube" quest. Its task is to hand in a Zygarde Cube. The quest text reads: "It's a cube, as all things should be."[3]

What changed in Cobblemon: Mega Showdown between versions?

1 part

All the Mons 0.14.1-beta ships Cobblemon: Mega Showdown 1.7.1+1.7.3+1.21.1-hotfix. The mod has been in the pack since 0.3.0-beta or earlier. The notes below come from the mod's own changelogs, newest at the bottom.[2]

Notable releases

  • 1.5.1+1.7.1 (b-8): fixed the sizer causing crashes.[8]
  • 1.6.1+1.7.1: fixed Showdown loading for new players.[9]
  • 1.6.3+1.7.2: added a debug mode config that shows the form change id for a battle form, and removed unused mixins.[10]
  • 1.6.4+1.7.2: mixins were added back, this time in a cleaner way.[11]
  • 1.6.8+1.7.3: new languages were added, and battle effects can now be defined through datapacks.[12]
  • 1.6.12+1.7.3: added a rotation field to the sizer.[13]
  • 1.7.1+1.7.3 hotfix (the version in this pack): fixed a crash with the Ho-Oh poser.[2][14]

If you run into crashes or Showdown loading trouble on an older pack install, the fixes above are the ones to know about. The two I'd point out are the sizer crash fix and the Showdown loading fix for new players.[8][9]
