What is Pipez?
4 parts
Pipez adds simple, highly configurable pipes that are designed to cause as little lag as possible. If you're building automation to move items, fluids, energy or gas around your base, this is a lightweight way to do it. This pack includes Pipez 1.21.1-1.2.31.[1][2]
Pipe types
- Item Pipe moves items.[1]
- Fluid Pipe moves fluids.[1]
- Energy Pipe moves energy.[1]
- Gas Pipe moves gas and is meant for Mekanism.[1]
- Universal Pipe combines all four pipe types in one and has every feature of the others. You pick which type to configure with the tabs on the left of its GUI.[1]
Who it's for
Pipez suits you if you want simple pipes that can grow into something more detailed. Filters support black- and whitelisting, tag filtering and several distribution modes. The mod is also built to be lag friendly, since only extracting pipes have block entities.[1]
Upgrades
Pipes are relatively slow by default, and the speed can only be increased by adding an upgrade. Higher tiers give a higher transfer rate. Upgrades also unlock features: Basic Pipe Upgrade gives redstone modes, Improved Pipe Upgrade adds distribution modes, and Advanced Pipe Upgrade adds filter modes and filters. Ultimate Pipe Upgrade is the next tier up. These descriptions come from the mod's own documentation, and the sources don't show the pack changing them.[1][3]
Each upgrade stores its configuration and filters. You can copy that data onto other upgrades by crafting them together.[1]
Where it fits in the pack
Pipez shows up in the automation part of the quest book. In the processing and automation chapter, "Pipez" quest asks you for a Pipe Wrench, any one Pipez pipe, and any one of the Basic, Improved, Advanced or Ultimate upgrades.[3]
How do you get started with Pipez?
5 parts
Pipez gives you item pipes, fluid pipes, energy pipes, gas pipes (these need Mekanism) and a universal pipe that does all four jobs in one. The pipes are built to be light on lag, so they suit big automation setups. Here is the order I'd go in.[1]
Make the Pipe Wrench first
Start with the Pipe Wrench. It's the first task of the automation quest "Pipez" quest, and it's the tool you use to configure pipes.[3][4]

Click a pipe with the wrench to configure it. Sneak-click with it to disconnect or reconnect a pipe from its neighbours.[1][4]
Place your first pipe
The same quest asks for one pipe of any type: Item Pipe, Fluid Pipe, Energy Pipe, Gas Pipe or Universal Pipe. The universal pipe has every feature of the other pipes combined, and you choose which pipe type to configure with the tabs on the left of its GUI.[1][3]
Craft a Basic upgrade
Pipes are relatively slow by default, and adding an upgrade is what increases their speed. Higher upgrade tiers mean a higher transfer rate. The Basic Pipe Upgrade is the entry point, it counts for the quest's upgrade task, and it unlocks redstone modes.[1][3]

Work up to Improved and Advanced
The Improved Pipe Upgrade unlocks distribution modes, and the Advanced Pipe Upgrade unlocks filter modes and filters. If you want to sort items, fluids or gases, you need the Advanced tier.[1][5]

Every setting and filter you add is stored in the upgrade itself. To copy that data onto other upgrades, craft them together. The quest also accepts the Ultimate Pipe Upgrade for its upgrade task.[1][3]
Add the Filter Destination Tool when you need it
Once you use filters, the Filter Destination Tool lets a filter apply only to one specific destination. Click the block your pipe inserts into to store its location and face, then put the tool in the destination slot of the filter GUI. It won't work if you click a side of the block that the pipe isn't connected to.[1][4][5]

How does Pipez work?
6 parts
Pipez gives you item, fluid, energy and gas pipes (gas needs Mekanism), plus a Universal Pipe that combines all four. The mod is built to be light on your server: only the extracting pipes have block entities, and pipes don't load unnecessary chunks.[1]
Making a pipe move things
Here's the big gotcha: pipes don't transfer anything unless they are set to extract. Sneak-click the end of a connected pipe with the Pipe Wrench to set it to extract. Then click the extracting part of the pipe to change modes, add filters or add upgrades.[1][5]
The wrench also lets you disconnect or reconnect a pipe: just sneak-click with it.[1]

Upgrades and transfer rates
Pipes are relatively slow by default, and you increase their speed by adding an upgrade. Higher upgrade tiers mean a higher transfer rate.[1]
In this pack every rate below is left at the mod default. Each pipe's tooltip shows the rate it currently has, for example how many FE or mB it transfers every tick.[4][6]
- Energy pipes move this much FE every tick: 256 with no upgrade (energy_pipe.amount.no_upgrade), 1,024 basic (energy_pipe.amount.basic), 8,192 improved (energy_pipe.amount.improved), 32,768 advanced (energy_pipe.amount.advanced) and 131,072 ultimate (energy_pipe.amount.ultimate).[4][6]
- Fluid pipes move this much in mB every tick: 50 with no upgrade (fluid_pipe.amount.no_upgrade), 100 basic (fluid_pipe.amount.basic), 500 improved (fluid_pipe.amount.improved), 2,000 advanced (fluid_pipe.amount.advanced) and 10,000 ultimate (fluid_pipe.amount.ultimate).[4][6]
- Gas pipes move this much in mB every tick: 200 with no upgrade (gas_pipe.amount.no_upgrade), 400 basic (gas_pipe.amount.basic), 2,000 improved (gas_pipe.amount.improved), 8,000 advanced (gas_pipe.amount.advanced) and 40,000 ultimate (gas_pipe.amount.ultimate). These options are only available if Mekanism is installed.[4][6]
- Item pipes move a batch of items per transfer: 4 with no upgrade (item_pipe.amount.no_upgrade), 8 basic (item_pipe.amount.basic), 16 improved (item_pipe.amount.improved), 32 advanced (item_pipe.amount.advanced) and 64 ultimate (item_pipe.amount.ultimate).[4][6]
- Item pipes also have a transfer interval in ticks, where 1 means every tick: 20 with no upgrade (item_pipe.speed.no_upgrade), 15 basic (item_pipe.speed.basic), 10 improved (item_pipe.speed.improved), 5 advanced (item_pipe.speed.advanced) and 1 ultimate (item_pipe.speed.ultimate).[4][6]
What each upgrade unlocks
Upgrades don't just raise speed. Some pipe features only work once you've added a high enough upgrade.[1]
- Basic Pipe Upgrade: unlocks the redstone modes (ignore, on when powered, off when powered).[1][5]
- Improved Pipe Upgrade: unlocks the distribution modes (round robin, nearest first, furthest first, random).[1][5]
- Advanced Pipe Upgrade: unlocks filter modes and filters.[1][5]
Every setting you change and every filter you add is stored in the upgrade itself. To copy that data onto other upgrades, craft them together.[1]

Filters
Filters work with item, fluid and gas pipes. You can blacklist or whitelist, filter by tag, use several filters at once, and invert an individual filter. To add a specific entry, click the item into the slot in the filter GUI, or type its ID in the text field next to it.[1]
Tag filters take tags prefixed with # or plain item IDs. If the object you inserted had NBT data, the NBT string shows in a second text area. You can delete that text if you don't want to match NBT, or switch the NBT button to exact mode so only an exact match is accepted.[1][4]
Filter destinations
You can make a filter apply only to a certain destination. Use the Filter Destination Tool and click the block your pipe inserts into to store its location and face, then put it into the destination slot of the filter GUI. This doesn't work if you click a side of the block that the pipe isn't connected to.[1][4][5]

How do you progress through Pipez?
4 parts
Pipez progression in this pack is mostly about the upgrades. The pipe types are the Item, Fluid, Energy, Gas and Universal pipes, and the upgrade tiers are the part you climb as your setup grows.[3]
The quest
Pipez has a quest in the processing and automation chapter of the pack's quest book: "Pipez" quest. Its tasks ask for a Pipe Wrench, a pipe of any type, and an upgrade of any tier.[3]
The pipe task accepts the Item Pipe, Fluid Pipe, Energy Pipe, Gas Pipe or Universal Pipe. The upgrade task accepts the Basic Pipe Upgrade, Improved Pipe Upgrade, Advanced Pipe Upgrade or Ultimate Pipe Upgrade. Any one of them counts, so you don't have to climb the whole ladder for the quest.[3]
Start with the wrench
The Pipe Wrench is the first task of the quest, so it is the first thing to make.[3]

How does Pipez work with other mods?
4 parts
Pipez links into other mods in this pack through custom machine recipes that the pack added. Each one mixes Pipez items with items from another mod. The recipe ids all sit under the world_engine name.[5]
Pipes and steel
The pipe recipes in the pack all use Steel Ingot. The energy pipe and gas pipe recipes also pull in a material from another mod: Redstone Alloy Ingot for the Energy Pipe, and Infused Alloy for the Gas Pipe.[5]
Custom Machine (custommachinery)
Recipe id: ftb:world_engine/pipez_energy_pipe_x16
The energy pipe recipe, a custom machine recipe added by the pack that uses an Ender IO material.
Custom Machine (custommachinery)

The gas pipe recipe, a custom machine recipe added by the pack that uses a Mekanism material.
The gas pipe is the one pipe type that depends on another mod by design: the Pipez project page lists it as the Mekanism pipe.[1]
The Fluid Pipe and Item Pipe recipes use steel together with vanilla items such as Bucket, Chest and Redstone.[5]

Universal pipes
The Universal Pipe combines all four pipe types in one block. In this pack it has its own custom machine recipe that involves steel and the energy, fluid and item pipes.[1][5]

Ultimate upgrade
The Ultimate Pipe Upgrade is tied to another mod too. Its recipe in the pack involves an Empowered Restonia Crystal and the Advanced Pipe Upgrade.[5]

The ultimate upgrade recipe, a custom machine recipe added by the pack.
Quest book
In the quest book, Pipez appears in the processing automation chapter, in quest "Pipez" quest. It asks for a Pipe Wrench, any one Pipez pipe and any one Pipez upgrade, so it only uses items from this mod.[3]
Which FTB StoneBlock 4 quests use Pipez?
1 part
Pipez appears in the pack's quest book in the processing automation chapter, in the quest "Pipez" quest. It has no title in the quest file. The sources show only this quest for the mod, so there is no chain of Pipez quests to follow in order.[3]
What the quest asks for
The quest has these item tasks:[3]
- The Pipe Wrench.[3]
- A pipe. Any of these counts: Energy Pipe, Gas Pipe, Fluid Pipe, Item Pipe or Universal Pipe.[3]
- An upgrade. Any tier counts: Basic Pipe Upgrade, Improved Pipe Upgrade, Advanced Pipe Upgrade or Ultimate Pipe Upgrade.[3]
Which Pipez config options matter?
4 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 0.51 guide
Pipez keeps its tuning in one file, the server config. Every pipe type has a transfer value for each upgrade tier, from no upgrade up to ultimate. If you want to know how fast your pipes really move things, this is where to look.[1][7]
Energy pipes
Energy pipes move a set amount of FE each tick. In this pack the values are 256 with no upgrade, then energy_pipe.amount.basic at 1,024, energy_pipe.amount.improved at 8,192, energy_pipe.amount.advanced at 32,768 and energy_pipe.amount.ultimate at 131,072. The no-upgrade value is energy_pipe.amount.no_upgrade.[7]
Fluid pipes
Fluid pipes are measured in mB per tick. This pack sets them as follows:[7]
- No upgrade: 50 mB (fluid_pipe.amount.no_upgrade)[7]
- Basic: 100 mB (fluid_pipe.amount.basic)[7]
- Improved: 500 mB (fluid_pipe.amount.improved)[7]
- Advanced: 2,000 mB (fluid_pipe.amount.advanced)[7]
- Ultimate: 10,000 mB (fluid_pipe.amount.ultimate)[7]
Gas pipes
Gas pipes also use mB per tick, and they only exist when Mekanism is installed. The pack values are 200 with no upgrade (gas_pipe.amount.no_upgrade), 400 for basic (gas_pipe.amount.basic), 2,000 for improved (gas_pipe.amount.improved), 8,000 for advanced (gas_pipe.amount.advanced) and 40,000 for ultimate (gas_pipe.amount.ultimate).[7]
Item pipes
Item pipes have two settings per tier. The amount is how many items move per transfer, and the speed is how often a transfer happens. A speed of 1 means every tick, so a lower speed number is faster.[7]
- No upgrade: 4 items, speed 20 (item_pipe.amount.no_upgrade, item_pipe.speed.no_upgrade)[7]
- Basic: 8 items, speed 15 (item_pipe.amount.basic, item_pipe.speed.basic)[7]
- Improved: 16 items, speed 10 (item_pipe.amount.improved, item_pipe.speed.improved)[7]
- Advanced: 32 items, speed 5 (item_pipe.amount.advanced, item_pipe.speed.advanced)[7]
- Ultimate: 64 items, speed 1, so every tick (item_pipe.amount.ultimate, item_pipe.speed.ultimate)[7]
Unverified The sources don't list the mod's default values, so I can't say which of these numbers the pack changed from the defaults. Treat all of them as the pack's own values.
