Pipez is a mod in FTB Skies 2 1.24.0, where it is version 1.21.1-1.2.31. Simple and efficient pipes (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is Pipez?

3 parts

Pipez adds simple, highly configurable pipes that are built to cause as little lag as possible. This pack ships Pipez 1.21.1-1.2.31, so everything below applies to that version.[1][2]

There are four pipe types: Item Pipe, Fluid Pipe, Energy Pipe and Gas Pipe. The gas pipe is the Mekanism one. There is also a Universal Pipe that combines all four types in one block, and you pick which type to configure with the tabs on the left of its GUI.[1]

Who it's for

If you want to move items, fluids, energy or gas around your base without a lag-heavy setup, this is your mod. Only extracting pipes have block entities, and pipes don't load unnecessary chunks, which is why it stays so light on the server.[1]

How it works

A pipe transfers nothing until you set it to extract. Sneak-click the end of a connected pipe with the Pipe Wrench to do that. Sneak-clicking with the wrench also disconnects or reconnects pipes.[1][3]

Pipes are relatively slow by default, and the speed can only be increased by adding an upgrade. The tiers are Basic Pipe Upgrade, Improved Pipe Upgrade, Advanced Pipe Upgrade and Ultimate Pipe Upgrade, plus an Infinity tier that isn't craftable by default. Higher tiers mean a higher transfer rate.[1][3]

  • Basic Upgrade unlocks the redstone modes: ignore, on when powered, and off when powered.[1]
  • Improved Upgrade unlocks the distribution modes: round robin, nearest first, furthest first and random.[1]
  • Advanced Upgrade unlocks filter modes and filters, including whitelisting, blacklisting and tag filtering.[1]
Tip: Every setting and filter is stored in the upgrade itself. You can copy that data onto other upgrades by crafting them together.[1]

Where it fits in the pack

Pipez has its own "logistics" quest chapter. It starts with "Pipez" quest, which asks for the wrench and any one of the four upgrade tiers. Four quests unlock after it, one for each pipe: "Item Pipe" quest for the item pipe, "Fluid Pipe" quest for the fluid pipe, "Energy Pipe" quest for the energy pipe and "Gas Pipe" quest for the gas pipe.[3]

How do you get started with Pipez?

3 parts

Pipez gives you item, fluid, energy and gas pipes, plus a Universal Pipe that does all four jobs. In this pack the logistics quest chapter walks you through the basics, and the order below follows it.[1][3]

Step 1: Wrench and a first upgrade

Start with the Pipe Wrench. The first quest in the chapter, "Pipez" quest, asks for the wrench plus an upgrade of any tier, and every pipe quest unlocks after it.[3]

The wrench is how you set pipes up. Pipes don't transfer anything until one is set to extract, which you do by sneak-clicking the end of a connected pipe with the wrench. Then click the extracting part to change modes, add filters or add upgrades. Sneak-clicking with the wrench also disconnects and reconnects pipes.[1][4]

Next, make a Basic Pipe Upgrade. Pipes are relatively slow by default, and the speed can only be increased by adding an upgrade. Higher tiers give a higher transfer rate. The Basic tier also unlocks redstone modes.[1][5]

The first logistics quest also accepts the Ultimate Pipe Upgrade as its upgrade task, so any of the four upgrade tiers will complete it.[3]

Tip: Every setting and filter you configure is stored in the upgrade itself. You can copy that data onto other upgrades by crafting them together.[1]

Step 2: Your first pipes

Once the first quest is done, the chapter has a quest for each pipe type: "Item Pipe" quest for the Item Pipe, "Fluid Pipe" quest for the Fluid Pipe, "Energy Pipe" quest for the Energy Pipe and "Gas Pipe" quest for the Gas Pipe. Build whichever one your setup needs first.[3]

The Item Pipe uses a recipe added by the pack, so check the recipe below rather than relying on what you know from the mod elsewhere.[5]

Later on: Universal Pipe and filter destinations

The Universal Pipe combines all four pipe types in one block. You choose which type to configure with the tabs on the left of its GUI. It's handy once you're running several resources along one route.[1]

When you start using filters, the Filter Destination Tool lets a filter apply to only one destination. Click the block your pipe inserts into to store its location, then put the tool in the filter's destination slot. This doesn't work if you click a side of the block that the pipe isn't connected to.[1][4][5]

How does Pipez work?

6 parts

Pipez gives you five pipe types: the Item Pipe, Fluid Pipe, Energy Pipe, Gas Pipe and Universal Pipe. Gas pipes only exist when Mekanism is installed. The Universal Pipe does all four jobs in one block.[1][4][6]

Getting a pipe to move anything

Pipes don't transfer anything unless they are set to extract. Sneak-click the end of a connected pipe with a Pipe Wrench to make it an extracting pipe. After that, click the extracting part of the pipe to change modes, add filters or add upgrades.[1][4]

The same wrench also disconnects and reconnects pipes: the project page says to sneak-click with it for that. In game, the wrench tooltip just says to click on a pipe to configure it.[1][4]

The Pipe Wrench uses the mod's own recipe.

Only extracting pipes have block entities, which is a big part of why Pipez is lag friendly. Pipes also don't load unnecessary chunks.[1]

Upgrades

A pipe with no upgrade is relatively slow, and you speed it up by adding an upgrade. Higher tiers mean a higher transfer rate. The tiers are Basic, Improved, Advanced and Ultimate, plus an Infinity upgrade that the project page says is not craftable by default.[1][4]

Upgrades also unlock features, so you need a high enough tier before certain options show up:[1]

Every setting you change and every filter you add is stored in the upgrade. To copy that data onto other upgrades, craft them together.[1]

Transfer rates in this pack

Rates are set in item_pipe.amount.no_upgrade and the other keys in config/pipez-server.toml. Every value in this pack matches the mod default, so nothing is tuned differently here. Fluid, energy and gas pipes move their amount every tick. Item pipes move their amount on an interval: a speed of 1 means every tick.[4][6]

Filters and destinations

Filters work with item, fluid and gas pipes. Once you have an Advanced upgrade in the pipe, the filter system gives you:[1]

  • Blacklisting and whitelisting, plus inverting individual filters. An inverted filter applies to the exact opposite of what you entered, except for its destination.[1]
  • Multiple filters at once, and filters can be copied.[1]
  • Tag filtering. You can click an item into the slot or type its ID in the text field next to it.[1]
  • Custom NBT data. If the item you inserted has NBT, the NBT string shows in a second text area, and you can delete it if you don't want to match NBT. There are three NBT matching modes: match exact, match existing and match none.[1]

Each filter can also be limited to one destination. For that you need the Filter Destination Tool: click the block your pipe inserts into to store its location and face. Then put the tool into the destination slot of the filter GUI, and the destination block shows up in the filter list.[1][4]

Watch out: Setting a destination doesn't work if you click a side of the block that the pipe isn't connected to.[1]

How do you progress through Pipez?

4 parts

Pipez progression in this pack lives in the logistics quest chapter. You start with a wrench and a pipe upgrade, then branch into a quest for each pipe type.[3]

The quest path

  1. Start with "Pipez" quest. It asks for a Pipe Wrench and a pipe upgrade. Any of the Basic, Improved, Advanced or Ultimate upgrades counts, so you can hand in whichever you have.[3]
  2. Four quests then unlock after it, and nothing in the chapter forces an order between them. "Item Pipe" quest asks for an Item Pipe, "Energy Pipe" quest for an Energy Pipe, "Fluid Pipe" quest for a Fluid Pipe, and "Gas Pipe" quest for a Gas Pipe.[3]

Wrench and upgrades

The wrench uses the mod's own recipe.[5]

How does Pipez work with other mods?

1 part

The clearest link between Pipez and another mod in this pack is the Gas Pipe. Pipez lists it as its Mekanism pipe type, and the filter system can filter gases on it.[1]

The pack has changed the Gas Pipe recipe, so don't rely on the mod's default. The in-pack version uses an item from Mekanism, which ties this pipe to your Mekanism progression. Here is the exact recipe:[5]

Quests

The logistics quest chapter covers Pipez. It starts with quest "Pipez" quest, which asks for a Pipe Wrench and any one of the Pipez upgrades: Basic Pipe Upgrade, Improved Pipe Upgrade, Advanced Pipe Upgrade or Ultimate Pipe Upgrade.[3]

Four quests unlock after that one, one for each pipe type:[3]

Each of these quests asks only for Pipez items, so the Gas Pipe recipe is where the pack ties Pipez to another mod.[3][5]

Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Pipez?

2 parts

Pipez shows up in a single quest chapter in this pack: "logistics". It's a short chapter with five quests, and the quests have no titles, so they're only identified by their IDs.[3]

Start here: the wrench and an upgrade

Everything in the chapter hangs off one starting quest, "Pipez" quest. It has two tasks: hand in a Pipe Wrench, and hand in a pipe upgrade. For the upgrade, any one of the four tiers counts: Basic Pipe Upgrade, Improved Pipe Upgrade, Advanced Pipe Upgrade or Ultimate Pipe Upgrade. So you don't need to go for the top tier to move on.[3]

Then pick your pipe

Once the first quest is done, four more quests open up. Each one asks you to have a single pipe type, and they all depend only on the first quest, so you can do them in any order you like.[3]

Tip: The chapter only asks you to obtain the items. Nothing in it requires you to build a working pipe network, so you can tick these off as soon as you have each pipe in your inventory.[3]

Unverified The quest rewards and the exact item counts for these tasks aren't listed in the available quest data, so check the quest book in-game for those.

Which Pipez config options matter?

4 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 0.51 guide

Pipez keeps its tuning in one file, the server config. Every pipe type has a transfer value for each upgrade tier, from no upgrade up to ultimate. If you want to know how fast your pipes really move things, this is where to look.[1][7]

Tip: Pipes are slow by default, and the only way to speed them up is to add an upgrade. Higher upgrade tiers mean a higher transfer rate, so the numbers below only matter once you start upgrading.[1]

Energy pipes

Energy pipes move a set amount of FE each tick. In this pack the values are 256 with no upgrade, then energy_pipe.amount.basic at 1,024, energy_pipe.amount.improved at 8,192, energy_pipe.amount.advanced at 32,768 and energy_pipe.amount.ultimate at 131,072. The no-upgrade value is energy_pipe.amount.no_upgrade.[7]

Fluid pipes

Fluid pipes are measured in mB per tick. This pack sets them as follows:[7]

Gas pipes

Gas pipes also use mB per tick, and they only exist when Mekanism is installed. The pack values are 200 with no upgrade (gas_pipe.amount.no_upgrade), 400 for basic (gas_pipe.amount.basic), 2,000 for improved (gas_pipe.amount.improved), 8,000 for advanced (gas_pipe.amount.advanced) and 40,000 for ultimate (gas_pipe.amount.ultimate).[7]

Item pipes

Item pipes have two settings per tier. The amount is how many items move per transfer, and the speed is how often a transfer happens. A speed of 1 means every tick, so a lower speed number is faster.[7]

Unverified The sources don't list the mod's default values, so I can't say which of these numbers the pack changed from the defaults. Treat all of them as the pack's own values.

What changed in Pipez between versions?

FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 ships Pipez 1.21.1-1.2.31. The mod has been in the pack since FTB Skies 2 1.0.1 or earlier, so you've had pipes available for pretty much the whole life of the pack.[2]

The one change recorded for that version in the mod's own changelog is added compatibility with sable.[8]

Unverified No pack changelog entries for Pipez were available, so any changes the pack itself made to this mod across releases are unconfirmed.
