What is Pipez?
2 parts
Pipez adds simple, highly configurable pipes that are designed to cause as little lag as possible. You get the Item Pipe, Fluid Pipe, Energy Pipe and Gas Pipe (gas pipes are for Mekanism gases), plus a Universal Pipe that combines all four types in one.[1]
This pack includes Pipez 1.21.1-1.2.31 for NeoForge.[2]
How it works
A pipe won't move anything until you set it to extract. Sneak-use the Pipe Wrench on the end of the pipe that connects to the block you want to pull from. After that, pipe upgrades make it faster and unlock extras like filters.[1][3]
The Pipez quest accepts any of these four upgrades, and the mod page says each one unlocks more features:[1][3]
- Basic Pipe Upgrade: unlocks redstone modes.[1][3]
- Improved Pipe Upgrade: unlocks distribution modes.[1][3]
- Advanced Pipe Upgrade: unlocks filter modes and filters.[1][3]
- Ultimate Pipe Upgrade: the top tier the quest asks for. Higher tiers mean a higher transfer rate.[1][3]
Where it sits in the quest book
Pipez is covered in the "Logistics" chapter, which is chapter 9 of 31 in the book and belongs to the group "Resources & Logistics". The chapter has 57 quests. Its intro quest, "General Logistics" quest, says this is where you'll find most of the ways to move items, energy, fluids and more.[3]
The main quest is "Pipez" quest, which asks you for the Pipe Wrench and one of the pipe upgrades. Four quests come after it: "Item Pipe" quest, "Energy Pipe" quest, a quest in "Logistics" and "Gas Pipe" quest.[3]
Next to it in the same chapter you'll find other logistics options, such as "Mekanism" quest, "LaserIO" quest and "Modular Routers" quest. The Mekanism quest says its cables and pipes are not as easy to make and upgrade as Pipez, but offer better speeds and utility overall.[3]
The rest of the quest text for this chapter is in the quest book itself.[3]
How do you get started with Pipez?
5 parts
Pipez is the pack's simple, no-fuss way to move items, fluids, power and gas. The quest book covers it in the Logistics chapter (group Resources & Logistics, chapter 9 of 31), starting with the quest "Pipez" quest. That quest asks for a Pipe Wrench and any one pipe upgrade. The pipe quests for items, fluids, power and gas all come after it.[3]
Step 1: the Pipe Wrench
Make the Pipe Wrench first. Pipes don't transfer anything until one end is set to extract, and the wrench is how you do that. This is the mod's own recipe, which the pack hasn't changed.[1][4]

Step 2: your first pipe
Start with the Item Pipe, the pipe that moves items. The pack changed this recipe, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults. One craft gives you 16 pipes.[1][4]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: pipez:item_pipe
When you need other resources, the pack has its own recipes for the Energy Pipe, Fluid Pipe and Gas Pipe, each making 16 pipes. The gas pipe is only available if Mekanism is installed, and it is in this pack.[3][4][5]

Step 3: set the pipe to extract
Out of the box, pipes are slow. An item pipe with no upgrade moves 4 items at a time, set by item_pipe.amount.no_upgrade.[5]
The matching speed option is item_pipe.speed.no_upgrade, which is 20 for a pipe with no upgrade.[5]
A fluid pipe with no upgrade moves 50 mB per tick, set by fluid_pipe.amount.no_upgrade.[5]
An energy pipe with no upgrade moves 256 FE per tick, set by energy_pipe.amount.no_upgrade. These values are the same as the mod's defaults.[5]
Step 4: upgrade the pipe
Upgrades are how you speed pipes up. Start with the Basic Pipe Upgrade. The pack changed its recipe, and it is the base for every later tier.[1][4]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: pipez:basic_upgrade
With it, an item pipe moves 8 items per transfer, set by item_pipe.amount.basic. The speed option item_pipe.speed.basic is 15. The basic upgrade also unlocks redstone modes.[1][5]
The next tiers each need the previous upgrade as an ingredient. The pack changed all of these recipes too.[4]

Improved Pipe Upgrade: unlocks distribution modes.
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: pipez:advanced_upgrade
Advanced Pipe Upgrade: unlocks filters and filter modes.

Recipe id: pipez:ultimate_upgrade
Ultimate Pipe Upgrade: the top craftable tier.
At the top, an item pipe with the Ultimate Pipe Upgrade moves 64 items per transfer, set by item_pipe.amount.ultimate. The speed option item_pipe.speed.ultimate is 1, which means every tick. Each upgrade stores the settings and filters you set, and you can copy them to other upgrades by crafting the upgrades together.[1][4][5]
Later: filters and Universal Pipes
Once you have an Advanced upgrade, filters become available for item, fluid and gas pipes. To send a filter's items to one specific block, use the Filter Destination Tool. Click the block the pipe inserts into, on a side the pipe is connected to, then put the tool in the filter's destination slot.[1][6]

The pack changed this recipe.
When your builds get crowded, the Universal Pipe combines the item, fluid, energy and gas pipes in one. Its recipe builds on the earlier pipes, so it comes after the earlier steps. You pick which type to configure with the tabs on the left of its screen.[1][4]

How does Pipez work?
6 parts
Pipez pipes are simple on purpose: you lay them down, tell one end to pull, and they move things to whatever they connect to. The mod is built to cause as little lag as possible, and only the extracting pipes have block entities.[1]
Setting a pipe to extract
Grab a Pipe Wrench and sneak-click the end of a connected pipe to make it extract. Then click the extracting part of the pipe to change modes, add filters or add upgrades. Sneak-clicking with the wrench also disconnects or reconnects pipes, which is handy for keeping neighbouring lines separate.[1][6]

The pipe types
There is an Item Pipe, a Fluid Pipe, an Energy Pipe and a Gas Pipe. Gas pipes are tied to Mekanism, and their config values are only available if Mekanism is installed. The Universal Pipe has every feature of the other pipes combined, and you pick which type to configure with the tabs on the left of its GUI.[1][5]
The pack changed the crafting recipes for the pipes, so don't rely on what you remember from the base mod. Here is the Universal Pipe as it is in this pack:[4]

Upgrades and transfer rates
A pipe with no upgrade is slow, and the only way to speed it up is to add an upgrade. Higher tiers mean a higher transfer rate. In this pack the values in the server config are the same as the mod defaults, so nothing is nerfed or boosted. Item pipes have a pair of settings: item_pipe.amount.no_upgrade for how many items move and item_pipe.speed.no_upgrade for how many ticks pass between transfers. Energy, fluid and gas pipes move their amount every tick, set by keys like energy_pipe.amount.no_upgrade.[1][5][6]
- No upgrade: 4 items every 20 ticks, 256 FE per tick, 50 mB of fluid per tick, 200 mB of gas per tick.[5][6]
- Basic Pipe Upgrade: 8 items every 15 ticks, 1,024 FE, 100 mB of fluid, 400 mB of gas, all per tick except the items.[5][6]
- Improved Pipe Upgrade: 16 items every 10 ticks, 8,192 FE, 500 mB of fluid, 2,000 mB of gas, all per tick except the items.[5][6]
- Advanced Pipe Upgrade: 32 items every 5 ticks, 32,768 FE, 2,000 mB of fluid, 8,000 mB of gas, all per tick except the items.[5][6]
- Ultimate Pipe Upgrade: 64 items every tick, 131,072 FE, 10,000 mB of fluid, 40,000 mB of gas, all per tick.[5][6]
There is also an Infinity Pipe Upgrade, a fifth tier that is not craftable by default. The pack's recipe list has no recipe for it.[1][4][6]
The pack changed the upgrade recipes. You start from the Basic upgrade, and each higher tier is crafted from the one before it:[4]

What each upgrade unlocks
Upgrades don't only add speed. Some features need a high enough tier:[1]
- Basic upgrade: redstone modes (ignore, on when powered, off when powered).[1]
- Improved upgrade: distribution modes (round robin, nearest first, furthest first, random).[1]
- Advanced upgrade: filter modes and filters.[1]
Filters
Filters work with item, fluid and gas pipes. You can use multiple filters at once, and each one can be a blacklist or whitelist entry. To add something, click the item on the slot in the filter GUI, or type its ID in the text field next to it. Tags work too: enter them prefixed with #.[1][6]
If the object you inserted has NBT data, the NBT string shows in the second text area. Delete the text if you don't want to match NBT. The NBT button switches between matching exactly and matching only the tags you provided, and the paper button inverts the filter so it applies to the exact opposite of what you entered (except the destination).[1][6]
Filter destinations
A filter can be limited to one destination. For that you need the Filter Destination Tool: click the block your pipe inserts into to store its location and face. It won't work if you click a side of the block that the pipe isn't connected to. Then put the tool in the destination slot of the filter GUI, and the destination block shows in the filter list.[1][6]

How do you progress through Pipez?
5 parts
Pipez progression in this pack is short and easy to follow. You start with one quest, pick up a wrench, and then choose the pipe type you need. After that you improve the pipes with upgrades. Every pipe and upgrade recipe except the wrench was changed by the pack, so don't rely on what you remember from other packs.[3][4]
Where it sits in the quest book
Pipez lives in the Logistics chapter, in the Resources & Logistics group (chapter 9 of 31 in the book). The main quest is "Pipez" quest. It asks for a Pipe Wrench and any one of the four pipe upgrades.[3]
Four quests unlock after it, one per pipe type: "Item Pipe" quest, "Energy Pipe" quest, a quest in "Logistics" and "Gas Pipe" quest.[3]
Step 1: the wrench
The Pipe Wrench is the only Pipez recipe here that is still the mod's own recipe. To make a pipe extract, sneak-use the wrench on the end of the pipe that touches the block you want to pull from.[3][4]

Step 2: pick your pipes
The quest book says the mod covers items, fluids, power and gases. Each of these four crafts gives you 16 pipes at once.[3][4]
- Item Pipe moves items.[3][4]
- Fluid Pipe moves fluids.[3][4]
- Energy Pipe moves power.[3][4]
- Gas Pipe moves gases.[3][4]

Step 3: the upgrade tiers
Once a pipe is set up, upgrade it with a Pipe Upgrade. According to the quest, upgrades make the pipe faster, allow filters, and more. There are four tiers, and each one builds on the one before it: Basic Pipe Upgrade, then Improved Pipe Upgrade, then Advanced Pipe Upgrade, then Ultimate Pipe Upgrade.[3][4]

How does Pipez work with other mods?
2 parts
Pipez connects to other mods in this pack in two ways: through two recipes the pack has changed, and through the Logistics chapter of the quest book, where it sits next to several other transport mods.[3][4]
Pack-changed recipes
Both the Item Pipe and the Gas Pipe have recipes changed by the pack, and each craft gives you 16 pipes. Each recipe includes an ingredient from another mod, so have that item ready before you start crafting.[4]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: pipez:item_pipe
The pack changed this recipe, and one craft makes 16 Item Pipes.
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: pipez:gas_pipe
The pack changed this recipe, and one craft makes 16 Gas Pipes.
The Gas Pipe is the Pipez link to Mekanism, since gas transport is the part of Pipez that depends on that mod. Gas pipes also support the filter system, just like item and fluid pipes.[1]
In the quest book
The "Pipez" quest quest is in the "Logistics" chapter, in the "Resources & Logistics" group (chapter 9 of 31 in the book). The "Item Pipe" quest, "Energy Pipe" quest, "Gas Pipe" quest and a quest in "Logistics" quests all come after it.[3]
The "Mekanism" quest quest in the same chapter compares the two. It says Mekanism's logistics cables and pipes offer better speeds and utility overall, but are not as easy to make and upgrade as Pipez. To configure Mekanism's pipes you use its Configurator, which is Mekanism's wrench.[3]
The chapter also has quests for other ways to move things around: "EnderIO" quest, "Integrated Dynamics" quest, "Modular Routers" quest, "Modern Industrialization" quest, "LaserIO" quest, "Entangled Blocks" quest, "Flux Networks" quest and "Managing Power With Powah!" quest. Each of those quests asks for its own mod's items, such as a wrench, a configurator or a node.[3]
The chapter has 57 quests in total. The text of 40 of them is not covered here, so read the rest in the quest book.[3]
Which FTB Skies 2: Aero quests use Pipez?
1 part
Pipez has its own small quest line, and it lives in the Logistics chapter. That chapter sits in the group "Resources & Logistics" and is chapter 9 of 31 in the quest book. It opens with a checkmark quest, "General Logistics" quest, which says this chapter holds most of the ways to move items, energy, fluids and more.[3]
The Pipez quest line
- Start with "Pipez" quest. It asks you to get the Pipe Wrench and any one of the four upgrades: Basic Pipe Upgrade, Improved Pipe Upgrade, Advanced Pipe Upgrade or Ultimate Pipe Upgrade.[3]
- "Item Pipe" quest comes after the Pipez quest and asks for the Item Pipe.[3]
- The Fluid Pipe quest, a quest in "Logistics", also comes after the Pipez quest. The book gives it no title of its own, and it asks for the Fluid Pipe.[3]
- "Energy Pipe" quest comes after the Pipez quest and asks for the Energy Pipe.[3]
- "Gas Pipe" quest comes after the Pipez quest and asks for the Gas Pipe.[3]
The four pipe quests all unlock from the Pipez quest, so you can do them in any order once it is done. Each one just asks you to have the matching pipe.[3]
The Pipez quest text describes the mod as a pipe for moving items, fluids, power or gases. It also mentions Universal Pipes, which condense everything into one pipe. Pipe Upgrades make a pipe faster, allow filters, and more.[3]
The Mekanism quest in the same chapter compares the two mods. It says Mekanism's pipes and cables are not as easy to make and upgrade as Pipez, but they offer better speeds and utility overall.[3]
Which Pipez config options matter?
4 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 0.51 guide
Pipez keeps its tuning in one file, the server config. Every pipe type has a transfer value for each upgrade tier, from no upgrade up to ultimate. If you want to know how fast your pipes really move things, this is where to look.[1][7]
Energy pipes
Energy pipes move a set amount of FE each tick. In this pack the values are 256 with no upgrade, then energy_pipe.amount.basic at 1,024, energy_pipe.amount.improved at 8,192, energy_pipe.amount.advanced at 32,768 and energy_pipe.amount.ultimate at 131,072. The no-upgrade value is energy_pipe.amount.no_upgrade.[7]
Fluid pipes
Fluid pipes are measured in mB per tick. This pack sets them as follows:[7]
- No upgrade: 50 mB (fluid_pipe.amount.no_upgrade)[7]
- Basic: 100 mB (fluid_pipe.amount.basic)[7]
- Improved: 500 mB (fluid_pipe.amount.improved)[7]
- Advanced: 2,000 mB (fluid_pipe.amount.advanced)[7]
- Ultimate: 10,000 mB (fluid_pipe.amount.ultimate)[7]
Gas pipes
Gas pipes also use mB per tick, and they only exist when Mekanism is installed. The pack values are 200 with no upgrade (gas_pipe.amount.no_upgrade), 400 for basic (gas_pipe.amount.basic), 2,000 for improved (gas_pipe.amount.improved), 8,000 for advanced (gas_pipe.amount.advanced) and 40,000 for ultimate (gas_pipe.amount.ultimate).[7]
Item pipes
Item pipes have two settings per tier. The amount is how many items move per transfer, and the speed is how often a transfer happens. A speed of 1 means every tick, so a lower speed number is faster.[7]
- No upgrade: 4 items, speed 20 (item_pipe.amount.no_upgrade, item_pipe.speed.no_upgrade)[7]
- Basic: 8 items, speed 15 (item_pipe.amount.basic, item_pipe.speed.basic)[7]
- Improved: 16 items, speed 10 (item_pipe.amount.improved, item_pipe.speed.improved)[7]
- Advanced: 32 items, speed 5 (item_pipe.amount.advanced, item_pipe.speed.advanced)[7]
- Ultimate: 64 items, speed 1, so every tick (item_pipe.amount.ultimate, item_pipe.speed.ultimate)[7]
Unverified The sources don't list the mod's default values, so I can't say which of these numbers the pack changed from the defaults. Treat all of them as the pack's own values.
What changed in Pipez between versions?
Pipez has been in FTB Skies 2: Aero since version 1.0.3 or earlier, and Aero 1.10.0 ships Pipez 1.21.1-1.2.31 (the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21.1).[2]
The one change I can confirm for the version you're running is in the Pipez 1.21.1-1.2.31 changelog: it added compatibility with sable, with thanks to 1foxy2 for the contribution.[2][8]
