What is Hostile Neural Networks?
2 parts
Hostile Neural Networks lets you simulate mobs and turn the results into their drops. It is based on Deep Mob Learning, and this pack ships version 6.5.1 of the mod.[1][2]
How it works
Everything revolves around the Data Model, an item that holds information about one entity. You start by crafting a Model Framework and using it on the target entity to build the model. Then you have to train it.[1]
Every model starts out Faulty. You train it up to Basic by getting kills while it sits in a Deep Learner, which can hold a few models at once.[1]
Once a model is Basic or higher, you can run it in the Simulation Chamber. Simulations cost energy, which depends on the model type, and need a catalyst item, usually a Prediction Matrix. The higher the model's tier, the more accurate it is, up to 99.5% at Self Aware. Accuracy decides whether a simulation also produces a Mob Prediction.[1]
Mob Predictions go into the Loot Fabricator, which uses power to convert them into mob drops. You pick a target for each model type from a predefined list of items. The fabricator remembers your choice per type, so one fabricator can handle several kinds of predictions.[1]
Where it fits in this pack
The pack's quest book puts the mod in the resource_generation chapter, as a chain of three quests that each unlock after the previous one.[3]
- Quest "Server Friendly Mob Farming" quest: hand in the Model Framework and the Deep Learner.[3]
- Quest "Simulating Loot" quest, after the first: hand in the Simulation Chamber, the Prediction Matrix and the Loot Fabricator.[3]
- Quest a quest in "Generating Resources", after the second: hand in the Data Center, the Data Center IO Port, obsidian and black stained glass.[3]
Data models also show up as one task among several creative-type items from other mods, in quest "Ascension Tier 2 - Transcendent" quest in the creative chapter and in quest a quest in "Backstage" in the thebackrooms chapter.[4][5]
Unverified Whether the ATM Star path uses this mod is not shown by the sources here, so check the pack's quest book before counting on it.
How do you get started with Hostile Neural Networks?
4 parts
Hostile Neural Networks lets you simulate mobs and turn the results into real drops. The whole mod revolves around the Data Model, an item that holds information about one type of mob. The pack's quest book walks you through the setup in the resource_generation chapter, and this section follows that order.[1][3]
Step 1: Model Framework and Deep Learner
The first quest, "Server Friendly Mob Farming" quest, asks for a Model Framework and a Deep Learner, so start with those two. You need the framework to build a Data Model, and the learner is where you train it.[1][3]

Every model starts out Faulty and has to be trained up to Basic in the Deep Learner before you can run simulations with it.[1]
Step 2: Prediction Matrix, Simulation Chamber and Loot Fabricator
The next quest, "Simulating Loot" quest, asks for the Simulation Chamber, the Prediction Matrix and the Loot Fabricator. Once a model is Basic or higher, the chamber can run simulations of it. Those need energy and a catalyst item, which is usually a Prediction Matrix.[1][3]

Simulations produce predictions, and the Loot Fabricator uses power to convert them into mob drops. The Simulation Chamber trains a Data Model through simulated combat.[1][7]

Step 3: Data Center
The last quest in the chapter, a quest in "Generating Resources", is about the Data Center and the Data Center IO Port, plus obsidian and black stained glass for the shell. The Data Center runs up to 25 Data Models at once, so it is the big upgrade once the basics work.[3][7]

It needs a hollow 7×7×7 shell. The floor must be obsidian, and the walls and ceiling must be black stained glass. The controller replaces one bottom-wall block and must face outwards.[7]
An IO Port can replace any wall or ceiling block of the shell. Right-click it to cycle between the Energy, Models, Inputs and Outputs modes.[7]
How does Hostile Neural Networks work?
5 parts
Hostile Neural Networks revolves around the Data Model, an item that holds information about an entity so you can generate that entity's drops. You build one by crafting a Model Framework and using it on the target entity. After that you train it, run simulations, and turn the results into loot.[1]

Training your models
You can train a model with the Deep Learner or with the Simulation Chamber. The Deep Learner holds a few Data Models, and the kills you make train them. Every model starts as Faulty and has to be trained up to Basic in the Deep Learner. The Simulation Chamber trains a model through simulated combat.[1][7]

Running simulations
Once a model is Basic or higher, you can run simulations of it in the Simulation Chamber. Every simulation produces a generalized prediction. Depending on the model's accuracy, it may also produce a Mob Prediction. Accuracy rises with the model's tier, up to 99.5% at Self Aware. A simulation needs energy, which depends on the model type, plus a catalyst item, which is usually a Prediction Matrix.[1]

The mod has a training mode and an inference mode. In training mode, simulations increase the model's data but produce no outputs. In inference mode, simulations produce output but the models gain no data.[7]
Unverified The exact energy cost per model type is not shown in the sources here, and no config files for this mod are available, so any pack-specific change to those values is unconfirmed.
Turning predictions into loot
The Loot Fabricator uses power to materialize predictions into real items. The possible drops come from a predefined list, and you pick a target for each type of model. The fabricator remembers your choice for each type, so one fabricator can take several kinds of predictions.[1][7]
A Fabrication Directive stores the selections from a Loot Fabricator, and a Fabrication Directive can clone its layout. Right-click to copy them and Shift-Right-click to apply them, which saves you from re-picking targets on another machine.[7]

You can also upgrade predictions to other dimensions by crafting. The pack has a recipe that turns a Generalized Overworld Prediction into a Generalized Nether Prediction, and another that turns that into an Generalized Ender Prediction.[6]

The Data Center multiblock
The Data Center is the peak of simulation. It runs up to 25 Data Models at once, and each model produces one drop per cycle into a shared output buffer.[7]

Build a hollow 7×7×7 shell around it. The floor must be obsidian, and the walls and ceiling must be black stained glass. The controller replaces one bottom-wall block and must face outwards.[7]
To operate it, put Data Models in the 5×5 grid and matching items in the four input slots. Each active slot consumes one input per cycle and produces the drop chosen by its Fabrication Directive.[7]
IO ports
The Data Center IO Port can replace any wall or ceiling block of the shell, and the controller detects it automatically. Right-click it to cycle between its four modes: Energy, Models, Inputs, and Outputs. Energy accepts power, while Models, Inputs, and Outputs expose the relevant item slots.[7]

How do you progress through Hostile Neural Networks?
5 parts
Hostile Neural Networks has a short quest line in this pack, and it's a nice, clean path. It lives in the resource_generation chapter and is a chain of quests, each unlocking the next. Follow them in order and you'll go from a bare Model Framework to a working Data Center setup.[3]
The quest path
- Quest "Server Friendly Mob Farming" quest is the starting point. Its tasks are to obtain a Model Framework and a Deep Learner.[3]
- Quest "Simulating Loot" quest unlocks after that. It asks for a Simulation Chamber, a Prediction Matrix and a Loot Fabricator.[3]
- Quest a quest in "Generating Resources" is the last step. Its tasks are the Data Center, the Data Center IO Port, obsidian and black stained glass.[3]
Step 1: Model Framework and Deep Learner

How does Hostile Neural Networks work with other mods?
3 parts
Hostile Neural Networks is mostly self-contained, but this pack ties it into a few other mods. The links come from recipes the pack added or changed, plus a couple of quests that group Hostile Neural Networks items with items from other mods.[4][5][6]
Twilight Forest items from predictions
The big one is Twilight Forest. In this pack the Generalized Twilight Prediction can be turned into these Twilight Forest items: Cicada, Firefly, Liveroot, Moonworm, Raven Feather, Steeleaf and Torchberries. Each one has its own recipe, shown below.[6]
The recipe dump marks all of these recipes as changed by the pack, so don't assume the mod's defaults. Use the recipes below as the real in-pack versions.[6]

Quests that mix mods
Two quests, "Ascension Tier 2 - Transcendent" quest in the creative chapter and a quest in "Backstage" in the backrooms chapter, list a Data Model among a set of creative items from other mods, including ones from Create, Replication and Ars Nouveau.[4][5]
The quest book also introduces the mod step by step in its resource_generation chapter. "Server Friendly Mob Farming" quest covers the Model Framework and the Deep Learner. "Simulating Loot" quest follows with the Simulation Chamber, the Prediction Matrix and the Loot Fabricator. a quest in "Generating Resources" comes after that, with the Data Center and the Data Center IO Port.[3]
Which FTB StoneBlock 4 quests use Hostile Neural Networks?
2 parts
Hostile Neural Networks shows up in three quest chapters in the pack. The main one is a short, linear chain in the resource generation chapter. The other two only ask for a data model as one of many items in a collection quest.[3][4][5]
Resource generation chapter
This is where you'll actually set the mod up. The quests unlock one after another, so work through them in this order.[3]
- Quest "Server Friendly Mob Farming" quest is the starting point. It asks you to obtain a Model Framework and a Deep Learner.[3]
- Quest "Simulating Loot" quest unlocks after the first one. It asks for a Simulation Chamber, a Prediction Matrix and a Loot Fabricator.[3]
- Quest a quest in "Generating Resources" unlocks after the second. It asks for a Data Center, a Data Center IO Port, plus obsidian and black stained glass.[3]
If you want to see how any of these machines or items are crafted, look up the recipe on that item's page. The quests only ask you to have the items.[3]
Creative and Backrooms chapters
Quest "Ascension Tier 2 - Transcendent" quest in the creative chapter is a collection quest. Its tasks are creative-style items from several mods, and one of them is a Data Model. It only unlocks after a long list of other quests in that chapter.[4]
The thebackrooms chapter has quest a quest in "Backstage", which lists the same set of tasks, including the Data Model. It unlocks after a single prerequisite quest.[5]
Unverified The quest titles, descriptions and rewards are not shown in the available quest data, so what each quest gives you is unconfirmed.
Which Hostile Neural Networks config options matter?
4 parts
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide
Everything for Hostile Neural Networks lives in one file, config/hostilenetworks.cfg. Most of the options you will care about are power sizes and how models level up, so here is exactly how this pack sets them.[8]
The value the pack flags as changed
[[config:config/hostilenetworks.cfg#models.Data Center Sim Cost Multiplier]] is set to 1.5. It scales the per-tick power cost the Data Center pays for each active model, as a multiplier on the model's base simCost, so 1.5 means 150% of normal. The allowed range is 0.01 to 100.0. The config listing marks this option as changed by the pack, but the mod default it shows is also 1.5, so 1.5 is the value you get in this pack.[8]
Power
The power options below all match the mod defaults in this pack.[8]
- [[config:config/hostilenetworks.cfg#power.Data Center Power Cap]]: 8,000,000 FE. The config describes this as sized for 25 concurrent self-aware simulations.[8]
- [[config:config/hostilenetworks.cfg#power.Sim Chamber Power Cap]]: 2,000,000 FE stored in the Simulation Chamber.[8]
- [[config:config/hostilenetworks.cfg#power.Loot Fab Power Cap]]: 1,000,000 FE stored in the Loot Fabricator.[8]
- [[config:config/hostilenetworks.cfg#power.Loot Fab Power Cost]]: 256 FE/t for the Loot Fabricator.[8]
Model training and attuning
- [[config:config/hostilenetworks.cfg#models.Action Upgrades Model]] is true, so killing mobs and breaking blocks upgrades the data on a matching model.[8]
- [[config:config/hostilenetworks.cfg#models.Right Click To Attune]] is true, so right clicking a blank data model on a mob or block attunes it to that target.[8]
- [[config:config/hostilenetworks.cfg#models.Continuous Accuracy]] is true, so a model's accuracy rises as it gains progress toward the next tier, instead of staying at the base accuracy of its current tier.[8]
- [[config:config/hostilenetworks.cfg#models.Sim Chamber Upgrades Model]] is 1, meaning the Simulation Chamber's Training Mode upgrades model data. The options are 0 (disabled, which also disables Training Mode entirely), 1 (yes) and 2 (only up to tier boundaries).[8]
- [[config:config/hostilenetworks.cfg#models.Enable Block Data Models]] is false. It is described as experimental and covers block data models such as the built-in ore models.[8]
Deep Learner HUD
The HUD is anchored at top_left with an X offset of 0 and a Y offset of 0, which are the mod defaults. Change [[config:config/hostilenetworks.cfg#client.Deep Learner HUD Anchor Point]], [[config:config/hostilenetworks.cfg#client.Deep Learner HUD X Offset]] and [[config:config/hostilenetworks.cfg#client.Deep Learner HUD Y Offset]] to move it. Each offset can go from -1000 to 1000.[8]
What changed in Hostile Neural Networks between versions?
FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 ships Hostile Neural Networks 6.5.1. The mod has been in the pack since 1.0.0 or earlier, so it's been part of StoneBlock 4 from the start.[2]
The mod's own changelog has entries for versions 6.5.1, 6.5.0 and 6.4.2. The pack changelogs don't list any changes for this mod.[9][10][11]
Unverified What changed in each of the 6.5.1, 6.5.0 and 6.4.2 releases is unverified, because the changelog text wasn't available for this guide. The pack changelogs also have no entries for this mod, so I can't say whether the pack changed any of its values or recipes between releases.
