What is Create: Shimmer?
Create: Shimmer is part of the pack, which ships version 1.2.10 of the mod (file create-shimmer-1.2.10.jar). It has been included since pack version 1.0.0 or earlier, so it's a long-standing part of the mod list rather than a recent addition.[1]
Unverified The sources I have don't describe what Create: Shimmer adds, who it's best suited to, or where it fits in the pack's progression. There's no in-jar guidebook to draw from, and nothing here confirms any quests or an ATM Star path connection for this mod. Until that's documented, check the mod's items in-game (its registry namespace is create_shimmer) rather than relying on this page for details.
How do you get started with Create: Shimmer?
5 parts
Same as in the FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 guide
Most of Create: Shimmer revolves around one fluid: Shimmer. Get a steady supply of it first, because the bottles, blocks, tools, soil and charms below all start from it.[2]
Step 1: Make Shimmer
Shimmer comes from a Create mixing recipe, and there are two versions to know about. The first was added by the pack. The second is the mod's own recipe, which uses the Nugget of Experience from Create.[2]

Step 2: Bottle it
A Create filling recipe turns Shimmer into a Shimmer Reagent. The reagent grants the Shimmer effect. Your vision fills with purple mist, and attack, mining and movement speed go up, but you may take extra magic damage when attacked. You can also empty a reagent or a Shimmer Bucket back into Shimmer.[2][3]
Step 3: Compact it into blocks and tools
Compacting Shimmer gives you a Block of Shimmer. Blocks and Shimmer Nugget items can be converted back and forth with crafting recipes, and the block is a main ingredient of the Shimmer tools.[2]
The Shimmer Pickaxe grants its target 7 seconds of Shimmer effect, and may grant the effect to you too. Attack damage and mining speed increase while you are under the effect. The Shimmer Axe and Shimmer Shovel work the same way. The Shimmer Sword has the same 7 second effect, but only boosts attack damage.[3]

Step 4: Magic Soil for farming
A Create filling recipe combines Shimmer with dirt to make Magic Soil.[2]
Per its tooltip, when the soil is moistened by Shimmer Fluid it emits a faint light and significantly accelerates the growth of any crop planted on it. When Glow Berries or Torchflower Seeds are planted below, the plants can regrow after being harvested.[3]
Step 5: A Charm of Shimmer
The charm is a safety net. While it sits in your inventory it prevents one death, and it grants the Shimmer effect when it triggers. It starts with Thorn Flour, which you get by crushing deadrock with Create.[2][3]
Crushing (create)
Recipe id: create_shimmer:crushing/deadrock_powder_from_deadrock
Next, a Create compacting recipe turns the flour into a Charm of Shimmer Base. Fill the base with Shimmer to get Charm of Shimmer I, then craft that into Charm of Shimmer II.[2]

How does Create: Shimmer work?
7 parts
Create: Shimmer plugs a magical fluid called Shimmer into Create's usual machine workflow. In this pack it is made with mixing, bottled and emptied with Create's filling and emptying, and compacted into blocks. The mod also adds its own recipe type, glooming. Here is how those systems fit together, as far as the sources explain them.[4]
Making Shimmer
Shimmer is produced through Create's mixing. The mod ships its own mixing recipe, and the pack adds a second one that uses items from the experience tag, so you have two routes to the fluid.[4]

Moving and storing Shimmer
Once you have the fluid, Create's filling and emptying handle it. Emptying a Shimmer Bucket or a Shimmer Reagent gives you the fluid back plus a glass bottle. Filling a glass bottle with the fluid makes a Shimmer Reagent.[4]

Filling recipes: Magic Soil and charms
Filling is also how you make Magic Soil. The soil emits a faint light and significantly speeds up crop growth when moistened by Shimmer Fluid. When Glow Berries or Torchflower Seeds are planted below it, the plants regrow after being harvested.[4][5]
Magic Soil is made with a filling machine.
The charms use the same fluid. The recipes below take you from the Charm of Shimmer Base to Charm of Shimmer I and then Charm of Shimmer II. Both charms prevent one death while they are in your inventory and grant the Shimmer effect when they trigger.[4][5]

Fans, glooming and transmutation
The mod adds glooming, a recipe type that fans can process when they are placed above glooming catalyst blocks. The listed catalyst is Twilight Forest's ominous fire block. This is controlled by kinetics.recipes.enableBulkGlooming, which is enabled in this pack. One glooming recipe turns a campfire into an Ominous Campfire.[4][6]

Fans can also process transmutation recipes when placed above transmutation catalysts, and shimmer fluids are listed as one. The option is kinetics.recipes.enableBulkTransmutation, and it is also enabled here.[6]
Deployers can perform sweep attacks, which kinetics.deployerSweepAttack leaves enabled in this pack.[6]
Twilight Forest materials
Some of the mod's materials come from Twilight Forest blocks processed by Create machines. Crushing deadrock gives Thorn Flour. Deadrock and cracked deadrock also drop the next weathered stage, while weathered deadrock gives only the flour. The flour is used in the charm base and in the Castle Door.[4]

Carminite is mixed into Carminite Solution, and a Fiery Tear can be mixed from that solution or straight from carminite. There is also an emptying recipe that turns Twilight Forest's Fiery Tears into the mod's version plus a glass bottle.[4]

Scepter repair
Shimmer fluid can repair Twilight Forest scepters. This is switched on in this pack through kinetics.scepter_repair.enableScepterRepair. Each repair operation restores 9 durability points, set by kinetics.scepter_repair.scepterRepairAmount. The fluid cost per operation depends on the scepter:[6]
- Zombie Scepter: 50 mB, set by kinetics.scepter_repair.zombieScepterRepairCost.[6]
- Fortification Scepter: 50 mB, set by kinetics.scepter_repair.fortificationScepterRepairCost.[6]
- Twilight Scepter: 500 mB, set by kinetics.scepter_repair.twilightScepterRepairCost.[6]
- Lifedrain Scepter: 500 mB, set by kinetics.scepter_repair.lifedrainScepterRepairCost.[6]
All of these match the mod's defaults, so the pack hasn't changed them. There is also a debug logging option, kinetics.scepter_repair.debugMode, which is off.[6]
The Shimmer effect
The fluid's payoff is the Shimmer effect. It enhances combat abilities, raising attack speed, mining speed and movement speed, but it fills your vision with purple mist and can cause extra magic damage when you're attacked. The tooltips of the Shimmer Bucket and Shimmer Reagent say they grant it.[4][5]
The Shimmer sword, axe, pickaxe and shovel each grant their target 7 seconds of Shimmer, and may also grant it to you. Attack damage rises while you're under the effect, and the axe, pickaxe and shovel also gain mining speed. The sword's tooltip mentions only attack damage.[5]
How do you progress through Create: Shimmer?
4 parts
Same as in the FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 guide
Unverified No quests in this pack involve Create: Shimmer, so there is no quest-guided path for it. The stages below are my own grouping of what the in-pack recipes need, not an official tier list.
Stage one: making Shimmer
Everything in this mod starts with the Shimmer fluid, and you make it with Create's mixing. The mod's own recipe takes a Nugget of Experience plus items from the decoration, glowing berries and luminous substances tags.[2]
Mixing (create)
5× Nugget of Experience
- any decoration
- any glowing berry
- any luminou substances
Recipe id: create_shimmer:mixing/shimmer_from_glowing_berries
The pack adds a second route. It accepts any item from the experience tag instead of that one specific nugget, so you have more ways to feed the mixer.[2]
Mixing (create)
- any decoration
- 15× any experience
- any glowing berry
- any luminou substances

Added by the pack.
Stage two: solid Shimmer and tools
Once you have the fluid, compacting turns it into a Block of Shimmer. You can also fill a glass bottle to get a Shimmer Reagent, and the bottle can be emptied back into fluid.[2]

Shimmer can also be poured onto dirt to make Magic Soil.[2]
Twilight Forest materials
The later recipes pull in Twilight Forest items. Crushing Deadrock gives you Thorn Flour. Crushing works down the chain: Deadrock gives Cracked Deadrock, Cracked gives Weathered, and each step can also drop flour.[2]

How does Create: Shimmer work with other mods?
3 parts
Same as in the FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 guide
Create: Shimmer is mostly a bridge between Create machines and Twilight Forest content. Nearly all of its in-pack recipes take or produce Twilight Forest items. The pack also changes some Create Connected recipes that use Shimmer, and it uses Carminite Solution in custom machine recipes. No quests in this pack involve the mod, so everything here comes from recipes.[2]
Twilight Forest
The Twilight Forest hookups are what the mod is built around. You use Create's crushing, mixing, compacting and filling to process Twilight Forest materials.[2]
- Crushing Deadrock gives you Thorn Flour and Cracked Deadrock. Crushing the cracked version gives Thorn Flour and Weathered Deadrock, and crushing the weathered version gives Thorn Flour again.[2]
- Thorn Flour feeds into building materials. You can compact it with Quartz into Castle Brick, or craft it with a Reappearing Block into a Castle Door.[2]
- A plain Castle Door can be dyed into Blue Castle Door, Magenta Castle Door, Violet Castle Door or Yellow Castle Door.[2]
- Mixing Carminite gives you Carminite Solution. Mixing it with Blaze Powder gives you a Fiery Tear.[2]
- Fiery Tears can be emptied into a Fiery Tear and a glass bottle, and filled back again. Filling a Fiery Tear onto an iron ingot makes a Fiery Ingot. The pack changed that Fiery Ingot recipe, but the sources don't say how it differs from the mod's default.[2]
- Filling with Shimmer onto a Scepter of Twilight, Scepter of Life Draining, Zombie Scepter or Scepter of Fortification repairs it.[2]
- Shimmer also turns a Sickly Twilight Oak Sapling into a Robust Twilight Oak Sapling.[2]
- The Charm of Shimmer Base uses Liveroot. The Ominous Campfire uses Exanimate Essence.[2]

Create Connected
Shimmer is how you make the Fan Transmutation Catalyst from an Empty Fan Catalyst. The pack changed both routes: one fills the catalyst with Shimmer, the other applies a Shimmer Bucket to it. The sources don't say what the pack changed compared with the defaults.[2]

Endgame crafting
The pack adds custom machine recipes named infinity_sword and infinity_bow under world_engine. They take Carminite Solution along with Avaritia items and Fortron Fluid. The sword recipe also takes a Red Matter Sword, and the bow recipe takes a Cursed Bow. The recipe dump doesn't list their outputs, so I can't say more than that.[2]

Which Create: Shimmer config options matter?
3 parts
Create: Shimmer has a small config, and in this pack every numeric value is left at the mod default. The pack changed none of them, so what you see below is also what the mod ships with. The options are split between a client file and a server file.[6][7]
Scepter repair
This is the part most players care about. Shimmer fluid can repair Twilight Forest scepters, and the pack has that feature switched on.[6]
- kinetics.scepter_repair.enableScepterRepair is true, so shimmer fluid repair of Twilight Forest scepters is enabled.[6]
- kinetics.scepter_repair.scepterRepairAmount is 9, meaning each repair operation restores 9 durability points. This is the mod default.[6]
- kinetics.scepter_repair.fortificationScepterRepairCost is 50 mB of shimmer fluid per repair operation for the Fortification Scepter. This is the mod default.[6]
- kinetics.scepter_repair.zombieScepterRepairCost is 50 mB per repair operation for the Zombie Scepter. This is the mod default.[6]
- kinetics.scepter_repair.lifedrainScepterRepairCost is 500 mB per repair operation for the Lifedrain Scepter. This is the mod default.[6]
- kinetics.scepter_repair.twilightScepterRepairCost is 500 mB per repair operation for the Twilight Scepter. This is the mod default.[6]
- kinetics.scepter_repair.debugMode is false, so there is no extra debug logging for scepter repair.[6]
In short, the Lifedrain and Twilight scepters cost 500 mB of shimmer fluid per repair operation, while the Fortification and Zombie scepters cost 50 mB. Each operation restores the same 9 durability points.[6]
Fans and Deployers
- kinetics.recipes.enableBulkGlooming is true. Fans can process glooming recipes when placed above glooming catalyst blocks, such as Twilight Forest's ominous fire block.[6]
- kinetics.recipes.enableBulkTransmutation is true. Fans can process transmutation recipes when placed above transmutation catalysts, such as shimmer fluids.[6]
- kinetics.deployerSweepAttack is true, so Deployers can perform sweep attacks.[6]
Client: shimmer field of view
While you have the shimmer effect, the mod adjusts your field of view. shimmerFovEnabled is true in this pack, and shimmerFovMultiplier is 0.85, which is the mod default. A lower multiplier zooms you in more and a higher one zooms you out.[7]
