What is Create: Shimmer?
Create: Shimmer is part of this pack's mod list, at version 1.3.0 (the file is create-shimmer-1.3.0.jar). It has been in the pack since 1.0.0 or earlier, so it isn't a recent addition.[1]
Unverified I couldn't confirm what Create: Shimmer adds, who it is best suited for, or where it fits in this pack's progression. The sources I have only confirm that it is installed, and there is no in-jar guidebook or platform description to draw on. They also don't show it on the ATM Star path or tied to any quests, so I'm not making claims about its recipes, items or config options here.
How do you get started with Create: Shimmer?
5 parts
Same as in the FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 guide
Most of Create: Shimmer revolves around one fluid: Shimmer. Get a steady supply of it first, because the bottles, blocks, tools, soil and charms below all start from it.[2]
Step 1: Make Shimmer
Shimmer comes from a Create mixing recipe, and there are two versions to know about. The first was added by the pack. The second is the mod's own recipe, which uses the Nugget of Experience from Create.[2]

Step 2: Bottle it
A Create filling recipe turns Shimmer into a Shimmer Reagent. The reagent grants the Shimmer effect. Your vision fills with purple mist, and attack, mining and movement speed go up, but you may take extra magic damage when attacked. You can also empty a reagent or a Shimmer Bucket back into Shimmer.[2][3]
Step 3: Compact it into blocks and tools
Compacting Shimmer gives you a Block of Shimmer. Blocks and Shimmer Nugget items can be converted back and forth with crafting recipes, and the block is a main ingredient of the Shimmer tools.[2]
The Shimmer Pickaxe grants its target 7 seconds of Shimmer effect, and may grant the effect to you too. Attack damage and mining speed increase while you are under the effect. The Shimmer Axe and Shimmer Shovel work the same way. The Shimmer Sword has the same 7 second effect, but only boosts attack damage.[3]

The pickaxe uses a Block of Shimmer and Shimmer Nuggets in a shaped crafting recipe.
Step 4: Magic Soil for farming
A Create filling recipe combines Shimmer with dirt to make Magic Soil.[2]
Per its tooltip, when the soil is moistened by Shimmer Fluid it emits a faint light and significantly accelerates the growth of any crop planted on it. When Glow Berries or Torchflower Seeds are planted below, the plants can regrow after being harvested.[3]
Step 5: A Charm of Shimmer
The charm is a safety net. While it sits in your inventory it prevents one death, and it grants the Shimmer effect when it triggers. It starts with Thorn Flour, which you get by crushing deadrock with Create.[2][3]
Crushing (create)
Recipe id: create_shimmer:crushing/deadrock_powder_from_deadrock
Next, a Create compacting recipe turns the flour into a Charm of Shimmer Base. Fill the base with Shimmer to get Charm of Shimmer I, then craft that into Charm of Shimmer II.[2]

How does Create: Shimmer work?
5 parts
Create: Shimmer doesn't add one big machine. It plugs into Create's own processing: mixing, compacting, filling, emptying and crushing. It also adds its own recipe type, glooming, and the Blaze machines that its server config covers. If you already run Create automation, most of this is feeding new recipes into setups you know.[4][5]
Making Shimmer fluid
Everything starts with Shimmer fluid, and it's made by mixing. There are two mixing recipes, one based on experience and one on glowing berries. The pack has changed the experience-based one, so the version below is the pack's own, not the mod default.[4]
Mixing (create)
- any decoration
- 15× any experience
- any glowing berry
- any luminou substances

This recipe was changed by the pack.
Mixing (create)
5× Nugget of Experience
- any decoration
- any glowing berry
- any luminou substances
Recipe id: create_shimmer:mixing/shimmer_from_glowing_berries
Once you have the fluid, compacting turns it into a Block of Shimmer. Filling and emptying move it in and out of containers. Filling a glass bottle gives you a Shimmer Reagent, and you can empty a Shimmer Bucket or a reagent back into fluid. Emptying gives you a glass bottle back.[4]
Emptying (create)
Recipe id: create_shimmer:emptying/shimmer_bucket
The reagent and the bucket both grant the Shimmer effect. Your vision fills with purple mist, and your attack, mining and movement speed go up. The catch is that you may take additional magic damage when attacked.[3]
On the client side, the pack keeps the Shimmer FOV change switched on, with a multiplier of 0.85. That is the same as the mod default. Lower values zoom you in and higher values zoom you out. You can adjust it with shimmerFovEnabled and shimmerFovMultiplier.[6]
Filling recipes: Magic Soil and charms
A filling recipe turns dirt into Magic Soil using Shimmer fluid. The soil emits a faint light and significantly accelerates the growth of any crop planted on it. Its tooltip also says plants gain a restorative ability that lets them regrow after harvesting. The tooltip lists two conditions: Glow Berries or Torchflower Seeds planted below, and the soil being moistened by Shimmer Fluid.[3][4]
The charms go in a chain: Charm of Shimmer Base, then Charm of Shimmer I, then Charm of Shimmer II. The recipes are below. While a charm is in your inventory it prevents one death and grants the Shimmer effect when it triggers.[3][4]
Compacting (create)

Twilight Forest materials
Several recipes in this pack use Twilight Forest materials. Crushing Deadrock gives you Thorn Flour plus a Cracked Deadrock. Crushing Cracked Deadrock gives flour plus a Weathered Deadrock, and Weathered Deadrock crushes to flour only.[4]
Crushing (create)
Recipe id: create_shimmer:crushing/deadrock_powder_from_deadrock
Fiery Tear has two mixing routes. One goes through Carminite Solution, and the other is a bulk recipe that skips the intermediate step. Emptying Twilight Forest's Fiery Tears also gives you this item, plus a glass bottle.[4]
Mixing (create)
Recipe id: create_shimmer:mixing/carminite_solution_from_ore
Glooming is the mod's own recipe type. In this pack it turns a regular campfire into an Ominous Campfire. There is also a normal crafting recipe for the same item.[4]

Experience automation
The server config's kinetics section covers how Create machines handle experience. In this pack, Deployers collect dropped experience as Nuggets of Experience, and they can apply Mending to the item they hold. Mending needs the collect option to be on. Deployers can also drop experience from kills and mined blocks, and they can make sweep attacks. All of these are enabled, and both Deployer XP scales are 1.[5]
- kinetics.deployerCollectXp and kinetics.deployerMendItem are both true.[5]
- kinetics.deployerKillXpScale and kinetics.deployerMineXpScale are both 1, which is the mod default.[5]
- Crushing Wheel kills drop experience in this pack. The drop chance (kinetics.crushingWheelKillDropXpChance) and the scale (kinetics.crushingWheelKillDropXpScale) both match the mod defaults.[5]
Liquid Experience vaporizes into Experience Orbs when you place it, because kinetics.fluids.experienceVaporizeOnPlacement is true in this pack. Keep that in mind if you plan to move it around by hand.[5]
The Experience Lantern pulls in nearby experience orbs, and you can turn that off with kinetics.fluids.experienceLanternPullToggle. These are its values in this pack, all matching the mod defaults:[5]
- kinetics.fluids.experienceLanternFluidCapacity is 1,000 mB.[5]
- kinetics.fluids.experienceLanternPullRadius is 10.[5]
- kinetics.fluids.experienceLanternDrainRate is 50.[5]
- kinetics.fluids.experienceLanternPullForceMultiplier is also left at its mod default.[5]
Blaze machines and Printers
The Blaze Enchanter can use up to experience level 30 in Regular Enchanting (kinetics.enchantments.blazeEnchanterMaxEnchantLevel) and up to level 60 in Super Enchanting (kinetics.enchantments.blazeEnchanterMaxSuperEnchantLevel). Super Enchanting extends the max enchantment level by 1 (kinetics.enchantments.enchantmentMaxLevelExtension). It also ignores enchantment compatibility (kinetics.enchantments.ignoreEnchantmentCompatibility). Splitting enchantments does not respect the extended level in this pack (kinetics.enchantments.splitEnchantmentRespectLevelExtension).[5]
The Blaze Enchanter, Blaze Forger, Blaze Uncrafter and Printer each hold 4,000 mB of fluid, which is the mod default. Changing these capacities needs a server reload.[5]
The Blaze Uncrafter's tooltip says the block is currently experimental, so use it with caution. The Shimmer Crystal stores enchantments extracted by a Blaze Uncrafter. The smithing template for it has its own recipe.[3][4]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: create_shimmer:blaze_uncrafter_template
The Printer can print Create's copiable items, Enchanted Books, Written Books, custom names, package addresses and package patterns. All of these functions are enabled in this pack. Custom names print in italics rather than as item names. The enchanted book cost multiplier is 1, and the generation change when copying Written Books is -3, both the mod defaults. The Printer denylist also stops Enchanted Books from being copied.[5]
How do you progress through Create: Shimmer?
4 parts
Same as in the FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 guide
Unverified No quests in this pack involve Create: Shimmer, so there is no quest-guided path for it. The stages below are my own grouping of what the in-pack recipes need, not an official tier list.
Stage one: making Shimmer
Everything in this mod starts with the Shimmer fluid, and you make it with Create's mixing. The mod's own recipe takes a Nugget of Experience plus items from the decoration, glowing berries and luminous substances tags.[2]
Mixing (create)
5× Nugget of Experience
- any decoration
- any glowing berry
- any luminou substances
Recipe id: create_shimmer:mixing/shimmer_from_glowing_berries
The pack adds a second route. It accepts any item from the experience tag instead of that one specific nugget, so you have more ways to feed the mixer.[2]

Stage two: solid Shimmer and tools
Once you have the fluid, compacting turns it into a Block of Shimmer. You can also fill a glass bottle to get a Shimmer Reagent, and the bottle can be emptied back into fluid.[2]

Shimmer can also be poured onto dirt to make Magic Soil.[2]
Twilight Forest materials
The later recipes pull in Twilight Forest items. Crushing Deadrock gives you Thorn Flour. Crushing works down the chain: Deadrock gives Cracked Deadrock, Cracked gives Weathered, and each step can also drop flour.[2]

Fiery Tears and the Ominous Campfire
There are two ways to get a Fiery Tear. You can mix Carminite with blaze powder directly, or make Carminite Solution first and mix that with blaze powder. Emptying Twilight Forest's Fiery Tears also gives you one.[2]

How does Create: Shimmer work with other mods?
5 parts
Create: Shimmer is mostly a bridge between Create and Twilight Forest. The pack also wires it into Create Connected and into the World Engine machine recipes. Everything below comes from in-pack recipes.[4]
Twilight Forest
Most of the mod's recipes use Twilight Forest items. The chain starts with Thorn Flour, which you get by crushing the different deadrock blocks in a Create crusher.[4]
- Crushing Deadrock gives Thorn Flour plus Cracked Deadrock. Crushing the cracked version gives Thorn Flour plus Weathered Deadrock, and the weathered version gives Thorn Flour alone.[4]
- A compacting recipe turns Thorn Flour into Castle Brick. Another compacting recipe makes the Charm of Shimmer Base, which needs Liveroot.[4]
- The Castle Door is crafted from Thorn Flour. Dyeing that door gives the Blue Castle Door, Magenta Castle Door, Violet Castle Door and Yellow Castle Door.[4]
- The Ominous Campfire uses Exanimate Essence.[4]
- Mixing Carminite gives Carminite Solution. A separate mixing recipe turns Carminite into a Fiery Tear.[4]

Fiery Tears and Fiery Ingots
A Create emptying recipe turns Fiery Tears into Fiery Tear plus a glass bottle, and a filling recipe with a glass bottle turns it back. The pack changed the filling recipe that turns a Fiery Tear into a Fiery Ingot, so don't assume the mod's default version applies here.[4]

Shimmer as a repair and growth fluid
Filling with Shimmer does useful things to Twilight Forest items. It repairs the Scepter of Twilight, Scepter of Life Draining, Zombie Scepter and Scepter of Fortification. It also turns a Sickly Twilight Oak Sapling into a Robust Twilight Oak Sapling.[4]

Create Connected
The pack changed the Create Connected recipes so that Shimmer produces the Fan Transmutation Catalyst from an Empty Fan Catalyst. You can do it with a filling recipe using Shimmer, or with item application using the Shimmer Bucket.[4]

Late-game World Engine recipes
The pack adds World Engine machine recipes for the infinity bow and the infinity sword. Both need Carminite Solution alongside Infinity Catalyst, Infinity Ingot and Neutronium Ingot. The bow also takes a Cursed Bow and the sword takes a Red Matter Sword. If you are chasing these, your Create setup has to keep producing Carminite Solution.[4]

Which Create: Shimmer config options matter?
6 parts
Good news: every option below that reports a mod default is set to exactly that default in this pack. Nothing numeric was retuned. The one setting that stands out is the Blaze Uncrafter, which is switched off. For true/false options the pack file doesn't list a mod default, so I can't tell you whether those were changed.[5][6]
Blaze Uncrafter
- kinetics.uncrafter.maxUncraftingLevel is 30 (the mod default).[5]
- kinetics.uncrafter.uncraftingTime is 200 ticks, the mod default.[5]
- kinetics.uncrafter.baseRetentionPercent is 30 and kinetics.uncrafter.maxRetentionPercent is 100, both mod defaults. Base retention is the percentage of ingredients kept at level 0, and max retention is the percentage kept at max level.[5]
- kinetics.uncrafter.durabilityLossMultiplier is 1 (the mod default). Setting it to 0 disables durability loss.[5]
- kinetics.uncrafter.tfCostAsMinLevel is true, so the Twilight Forest uncrafting cost is used as the minimum uncrafting level requirement.[5]
Enchanting and experience
The Blaze Enchanter uses level caps of 30 for regular enchanting (kinetics.enchantments.blazeEnchanterMaxEnchantLevel) and 60 for super enchanting (kinetics.enchantments.blazeEnchanterMaxSuperEnchantLevel). Both are mod defaults. Super enchanting can go 1 level past the normal maximum because kinetics.enchantments.enchantmentMaxLevelExtension is 1, also the default.[5]
kinetics.enchantments.ignoreEnchantmentCompatibility is true, so Super Enchanting and Super Forging ignore enchantment compatibility. kinetics.enchantments.splitEnchantmentRespectLevelExtension is false, so enchantment splitting doesn't respect over-capped levels.[5]
Deployers can collect experience as Nuggets of Experience (kinetics.deployerCollectXp is true). They can also apply Mending to the item they hold, which needs that same option on (kinetics.deployerMendItem). Kills and mined blocks both drop experience, and sweep attacks are allowed. The kill and mine XP scales (kinetics.deployerKillXpScale and kinetics.deployerMineXpScale) are both 1, the mod default.[5]
Crushing Wheel kills also drop experience (kinetics.crushingWheelKillDropXp is true). The drop chance (kinetics.crushingWheelKillDropXpChance) and scale (kinetics.crushingWheelKillDropXpScale) options are left at their mod defaults.[5]
Experience Lantern
The lantern holds 1,000 mB (kinetics.fluids.experienceLanternFluidCapacity) and drains 50 mB per 0.5 ticks from the player (kinetics.fluids.experienceLanternDrainRate). Its pull toggle is on, with a pull radius of 10 (kinetics.fluids.experienceLanternPullRadius). All of these are mod defaults. kinetics.fluids.experienceVaporizeOnPlacement is true, so Liquid Experience vaporizes into Experience Orbs when you place it.[5]
Printers
Every Printer function is enabled: Create copiable items, custom names, Enchanted Books, package addresses, package patterns and Written Books. Printers hold 4,000 mB (kinetics.fluids.printerFluidCapacity). Enchanted Book printing costs the standard amount, since kinetics.fluids.printingEnchantedBookCostMultiplier is 1. kinetics.fluids.printingGenerationChange is -3, the mod default. kinetics.fluids.printingCustomNameAsItemName is false, so custom names print in italics rather than as item names.[5]
Scepter repair and fan recipes
Shimmer fluid can repair Twilight Forest scepters (kinetics.scepter_repair.enableScepterRepair is true). Each repair operation restores 9 durability points (kinetics.scepter_repair.scepterRepairAmount). The shimmer fluid cost per repair operation depends on the scepter, and each cost below is a mod default:[5]
- kinetics.scepter_repair.fortificationScepterRepairCost is 50 mB for the Fortification Scepter.[5]
- kinetics.scepter_repair.zombieScepterRepairCost is 50 mB for the Zombie Scepter.[5]
- kinetics.scepter_repair.lifedrainScepterRepairCost is 500 mB for the Lifedrain Scepter.[5]
- kinetics.scepter_repair.twilightScepterRepairCost is 500 mB for the Twilight Scepter.[5]
Fans can also run glooming recipes over glooming catalysts (kinetics.recipes.enableBulkGlooming) and transmutation recipes over transmutation catalysts such as shimmer fluids (kinetics.recipes.enableBulkTransmutation). Both options are on.[5]
Client options
shimmerFovEnabled is true, so your FOV changes while you have the shimmer effect. shimmerFovMultiplier is 0.85, the mod default. experienceVisionMultiplier is 1, also the default.[6]
