What is Create: Shimmer?
Create: Shimmer is part of the pack's mod list, and this pack ships version 1.3.1 of it (the file is create-shimmer-1.3.1.jar). That's the one thing I can confirm about it, so I'm keeping this overview short instead of guessing.[1]
Unverified What the mod adds, who it is aimed at and where it fits in the pack's progression could not be confirmed. The available sources include no description, in-pack guidebook or platform page for it. They also show no quests that involve it and no place for it on the ATM Star path.
How do you get started with Create: Shimmer?
5 parts
Most of Create: Shimmer revolves around one fluid: Shimmer. Get a steady supply of it first, because the bottles, blocks, tools, soil and charms below all start from it.[2]
Step 1: Make Shimmer
Shimmer comes from a Create mixing recipe, and there are two versions to know about. The first was added by the pack. The second is the mod's own recipe, which uses the Nugget of Experience from Create.[2]

Step 2: Bottle it
A Create filling recipe turns Shimmer into a Shimmer Reagent. The reagent grants the Shimmer effect. Your vision fills with purple mist, and attack, mining and movement speed go up, but you may take extra magic damage when attacked. You can also empty a reagent or a Shimmer Bucket back into Shimmer.[2][3]
Step 3: Compact it into blocks and tools
Compacting Shimmer gives you a Block of Shimmer. Blocks and Shimmer Nugget items can be converted back and forth with crafting recipes, and the block is a main ingredient of the Shimmer tools.[2]
The Shimmer Pickaxe grants its target 7 seconds of Shimmer effect, and may grant the effect to you too. Attack damage and mining speed increase while you are under the effect. The Shimmer Axe and Shimmer Shovel work the same way. The Shimmer Sword has the same 7 second effect, but only boosts attack damage.[3]

Step 4: Magic Soil for farming
A Create filling recipe combines Shimmer with dirt to make Magic Soil.[2]
Per its tooltip, when the soil is moistened by Shimmer Fluid it emits a faint light and significantly accelerates the growth of any crop planted on it. When Glow Berries or Torchflower Seeds are planted below, the plants can regrow after being harvested.[3]
Step 5: A Charm of Shimmer
The charm is a safety net. While it sits in your inventory it prevents one death, and it grants the Shimmer effect when it triggers. It starts with Thorn Flour, which you get by crushing deadrock with Create.[2][3]
Crushing (create)
Recipe id: create_shimmer:crushing/deadrock_powder_from_deadrock
Next, a Create compacting recipe turns the flour into a Charm of Shimmer Base. Fill the base with Shimmer to get Charm of Shimmer I, then craft that into Charm of Shimmer II.[2]

How does Create: Shimmer work?
8 parts
Create: Shimmer is built around one fluid, Shimmer. Almost everything in the mod either makes it, moves it through Create-style recipes, or spends it. Here is how those systems work in the pack, as far as the available sources explain them.[2][4]
Making Shimmer
Shimmer is made in a Create mixing recipe, and there are two routes. One is the mod's own recipe that uses glowing berries and an Experience Nugget from Create. The other is a second mixing route that the pack adds, built around experience.[2]

Handling the fluid
Shimmer works with Create's filling, emptying and compacting recipe types. The recipes below show how it connects to the Shimmer Reagent, the Shimmer Bucket and the Block of Shimmer.[2]
Shimmer plus a glass bottle gives the reagent.
Emptying (create)
Recipe id: create_shimmer:emptying/shimmer_bucket
Emptying the bucket gives Shimmer and a glass bottle.
Compacting Shimmer makes the block.
Shimmer is also a fluid ingredient in other filling recipes. Filling a Charm of Shimmer Base makes Charm of Shimmer I, and filling dirt makes Magic Soil. The base itself comes from a compacting recipe.[2]
Compacting (create)
Recipe id: create_shimmer:compacting/charm_of_shimmer_base
The base is compacted from Twilight Forest and basic materials.
Filling the base with Shimmer makes the first charm.
Filling dirt with Shimmer makes Magic Soil.
Magic Soil
Magic Soil is soil infused with magical energy that can give special properties to certain plants. Its tooltip describes two behaviours. The soil emits a faint light and significantly accelerates the growth of any crop planted on it, and plants gain a restorative ability that lets them regrow after being harvested. The tooltip also lists two conditions: Glow Berries or Torchflower Seeds planted below, and the soil being moistened by Shimmer Fluid. It does not pair each condition with a behaviour in the text here.[3]
Fans and catalysts
The pack lets fans do extra work above certain catalyst blocks. With bulk glooming enabled, a fan above a glooming catalyst can process glooming recipes, and Twilight Forest's ominous fire block is listed as a catalyst. With bulk transmutation enabled, a fan above a transmutation catalyst can process transmutation recipes, and shimmer fluids are listed as catalysts. Both options are on in the pack: kinetics.recipes.enableBulkGlooming and kinetics.recipes.enableBulkTransmutation.[4]
The mod also has its own glooming recipe type. The one glooming recipe in the sources turns a plain campfire into an Ominous Campfire.[2]
Glooming (create_shimmer)
Recipe id: create_shimmer:glooming/ominous_campfire
A campfire becomes an Ominous Campfire.
Twilight Forest processing chains
Several recipes tie into Twilight Forest materials. Crushing deadrock gives Thorn Flour, and the chain runs from Deadrock to Cracked Deadrock to Weathered Deadrock. Mixing Carminite makes Carminite Solution, and that solution plus blaze powder makes a Fiery Tear. There is also a route that goes from Carminite and blaze powder straight to the tear.[2]

Recipe id: create_shimmer:crushing/deadrock_powder_from_deadrock
Crushing Deadrock gives Thorn Flour and Cracked Deadrock.

Blaze Uncrafter
The Blaze Uncrafter works with ingredient retention, and a Shimmer Crystal stores the enchantments it extracts. A smithing template for it is crafted with a Shimmer Nugget and netherrack.[2][3][4]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: create_shimmer:blaze_uncrafter_template
The recipe for the uncrafter's smithing template.
The server config controls how it behaves, and the pack keeps the mod default for every value below. kinetics.uncrafter.enableBlazeUncrafter is true, so it is allowed to process items. kinetics.uncrafter.blazeUncrafterFluidCapacity is 4,000 mB, and kinetics.uncrafter.uncraftingTime is 200 ticks.[4]
Retention depends on the uncrafting level. kinetics.uncrafter.baseRetentionPercent is 30 percent of ingredients kept at level 0, and kinetics.uncrafter.maxRetentionPercent is 100 percent at the maximum level. kinetics.uncrafter.maxUncraftingLevel is 30.[4]
A couple more options matter. kinetics.uncrafter.durabilityLossMultiplier is 1, and setting it to 0 disables ingredient loss from item durability damage. kinetics.uncrafter.tfCostAsMinLevel is true, so the Twilight Forest uncrafting cost is used as the minimum uncrafting level requirement.[4]
Scepter repair
Shimmer fluid can repair Twilight Forest scepters, and the pack has this enabled through kinetics.scepter_repair.enableScepterRepair. The values below all match the mod defaults.[4]
- kinetics.scepter_repair.scepterRepairAmount is 9, the durability points restored per repair operation.[4]
- kinetics.scepter_repair.fortificationScepterRepairCost is 50 mB of Shimmer per repair operation for the Fortification Scepter.[4]
- kinetics.scepter_repair.zombieScepterRepairCost is 50 mB of Shimmer per repair operation for the Zombie Scepter.[4]
- kinetics.scepter_repair.lifedrainScepterRepairCost is 500 mB of Shimmer per repair operation for the Lifedrain Scepter.[4]
- kinetics.scepter_repair.twilightScepterRepairCost is 500 mB of Shimmer per repair operation for the Twilight Scepter.[4]
Deployers and the Shimmer effect
kinetics.deployerSweepAttack is true in the pack, so Deployers can perform sweep attacks.[4]
The Shimmer effect boosts combat but distorts your vision, and you may take extra magic damage. The reagent and the bucket grant it directly, with higher attack, mining and movement speed. The Shimmer sword, axe, pickaxe and shovel give the target 7 seconds of the effect and may also give it to you. The sword boosts attack damage under the effect, while the axe, pickaxe and shovel boost attack damage and mining speed.[3]
The vision change is a client setting. shimmerFovEnabled is on, and shimmerFovMultiplier is 0.85. Lower values zoom in more and higher values zoom out, up to a maximum of 2.0.[5]
How do you progress through Create: Shimmer?
4 parts
Unverified No quests in this pack involve Create: Shimmer, so there is no quest-guided path for it. The stages below are my own grouping of what the in-pack recipes need, not an official tier list.
Stage one: making Shimmer
Everything in this mod starts with the Shimmer fluid, and you make it with Create's mixing. The mod's own recipe takes a Nugget of Experience plus items from the decoration, glowing berries and luminous substances tags.[2]
Mixing (create)
5× Nugget of Experience
- any decoration
- any glowing berry
- any luminou substances
Recipe id: create_shimmer:mixing/shimmer_from_glowing_berries
The pack adds a second route. It accepts any item from the experience tag instead of that one specific nugget, so you have more ways to feed the mixer.[2]
Mixing (create)
- any decoration
- 15× any experience
- any glowing berry
- any luminou substances

Added by the pack.
Stage two: solid Shimmer and tools
Once you have the fluid, compacting turns it into a Block of Shimmer. You can also fill a glass bottle to get a Shimmer Reagent, and the bottle can be emptied back into fluid.[2]

Shimmer can also be poured onto dirt to make Magic Soil.[2]
Twilight Forest materials
The later recipes pull in Twilight Forest items. Crushing Deadrock gives you Thorn Flour. Crushing works down the chain: Deadrock gives Cracked Deadrock, Cracked gives Weathered, and each step can also drop flour.[2]

How does Create: Shimmer work with other mods?
3 parts
Create: Shimmer is mostly a bridge between Create machines and Twilight Forest content. Nearly all of its in-pack recipes take or produce Twilight Forest items. The pack also changes some Create Connected recipes that use Shimmer, and it uses Carminite Solution in custom machine recipes. No quests in this pack involve the mod, so everything here comes from recipes.[2]
Twilight Forest
The Twilight Forest hookups are what the mod is built around. You use Create's crushing, mixing, compacting and filling to process Twilight Forest materials.[2]
- Crushing Deadrock gives you Thorn Flour and Cracked Deadrock. Crushing the cracked version gives Thorn Flour and Weathered Deadrock, and crushing the weathered version gives Thorn Flour again.[2]
- Thorn Flour feeds into building materials. You can compact it with Quartz into Castle Brick, or craft it with a Reappearing Block into a Castle Door.[2]
- A plain Castle Door can be dyed into Blue Castle Door, Magenta Castle Door, Violet Castle Door or Yellow Castle Door.[2]
- Mixing Carminite gives you Carminite Solution. Mixing it with Blaze Powder gives you a Fiery Tear.[2]
- Fiery Tears can be emptied into a Fiery Tear and a glass bottle, and filled back again. Filling a Fiery Tear onto an iron ingot makes a Fiery Ingot. The pack changed that Fiery Ingot recipe, but the sources don't say how it differs from the mod's default.[2]
- Filling with Shimmer onto a Scepter of Twilight, Scepter of Life Draining, Zombie Scepter or Scepter of Fortification repairs it.[2]
- Shimmer also turns a Sickly Twilight Oak Sapling into a Robust Twilight Oak Sapling.[2]
- The Charm of Shimmer Base uses Liveroot. The Ominous Campfire uses Exanimate Essence.[2]

Mixing (create)

Carminite Solution is also used by the pack's custom machine recipes further down.
Create Connected
Shimmer is how you make the Fan Transmutation Catalyst from an Empty Fan Catalyst. The pack changed both routes: one fills the catalyst with Shimmer, the other applies a Shimmer Bucket to it. The sources don't say what the pack changed compared with the defaults.[2]

Endgame crafting
The pack adds custom machine recipes named infinity_sword and infinity_bow under world_engine. They take Carminite Solution along with Avaritia items and Fortron Fluid. The sword recipe also takes a Red Matter Sword, and the bow recipe takes a Cursed Bow. The recipe dump doesn't list their outputs, so I can't say more than that.[2]

Which Create: Shimmer config options matter?
4 parts
Here are the Create: Shimmer settings you're most likely to touch. Every setting that lists a mod default in this pack's files is set to exactly that default, so the pack hasn't changed any of those values. Everything below is how the pack has it set.[4][5]
Shimmer FOV (client)
shimmerFovEnabled is on, so your field of view changes while you have the shimmer effect. shimmerFovMultiplier is 0.85, which is the mod default. Lower values zoom you in more and higher values zoom you out. If the shimmer zoom bothers you, turn the first option off or raise the multiplier.[5]
Blaze Uncrafter
- kinetics.uncrafter.enableBlazeUncrafter is true, so the Blaze Uncrafter is allowed to process items.[4]
- kinetics.uncrafter.maxUncraftingLevel is 30, the mod default. The allowed range is 1 to 60.[4]
- kinetics.uncrafter.baseRetentionPercent is 30, so 30 percent of ingredients are retained at level 0. kinetics.uncrafter.maxRetentionPercent is 100, so you keep everything at max level. Both are mod defaults.[4]
- kinetics.uncrafter.durabilityLossMultiplier is 1, the mod default. It scales ingredient loss from item durability damage, and 0 disables that loss.[4]
- kinetics.uncrafter.uncraftingTime is 200 ticks, and kinetics.uncrafter.blazeUncrafterFluidCapacity is 4,000 mB. Both are mod defaults, and both are flagged as needing a server reload.[4]
- kinetics.uncrafter.tfCostAsMinLevel is true, so the Twilight Forest uncrafting cost is used as the minimum uncrafting level requirement.[4]
Scepter repair
kinetics.scepter_repair.enableScepterRepair is true, so shimmer fluid can repair Twilight Forest scepters. Each repair operation restores 9 durability points (kinetics.scepter_repair.scepterRepairAmount), which is the mod default.[4]
- kinetics.scepter_repair.fortificationScepterRepairCost: 50 mB of shimmer per repair operation, the mod default.[4]
- kinetics.scepter_repair.zombieScepterRepairCost: 50 mB per repair operation, the mod default.[4]
- kinetics.scepter_repair.lifedrainScepterRepairCost: 500 mB per repair operation, the mod default.[4]
- kinetics.scepter_repair.twilightScepterRepairCost: 500 mB per repair operation, the mod default.[4]
kinetics.scepter_repair.debugMode is false, so there's no extra debug logging for scepter repair.[4]
Fans and Deployers
- kinetics.recipes.enableBulkGlooming is true, so fans can process glooming recipes above glooming catalyst blocks. The config names Twilight Forest's ominous fire block as one catalyst.[4]
- kinetics.recipes.enableBulkTransmutation is true, so fans can process transmutation recipes above transmutation catalysts. The config names shimmer fluids as a catalyst.[4]
- kinetics.deployerSweepAttack is true, so Deployers can perform sweep attacks.[4]
