What is Ars Nouveau's Flavors & Delight?

1 part

Ars Nouveau's Flavors & Delight is an addon for Ars Nouveau that adds extra foods through Farmer's Delight. The magic Ars fruits can be made into beverages, cooked into meals, or baked into a pie. The pack ships version 2.2.2 of the mod.[1][2]

Where it sits in the quest book

The mod has its own quest, "Arcanist's Delight" quest, in the Ars Nouveau chapter. That chapter is in the "Magic Mods" group and is chapter 16 of 31 in the book. It holds 63 quests.[2]

"Arcanist's Delight" quest is a simple checkmark quest, so there is nothing to craft or hand in. It comes right after "Welcome To Ars Nouveau!" quest, the chapter's opening quest, where you make your Novice Spell Book.[2]

It's a side branch rather than a step in the main line. "Upgrading Our Spell Book" quest also unlocks after the welcome quest, and "Creating Your First Spell" quest follows both of those, leading on to "Magical Trees..." quest. Among the quests whose details are listed here, none has the food quest as a prerequisite. The details of 42 of the chapter's 63 quests are not included here, so check the quest book for anything that follows it.[2]

Unverified Whether the ATM Star path uses this mod is not shown by the sources here. The pack's quest book is where that would be told.

How do you get started with Ars Nouveau's Flavors & Delight?

6 parts

This add-on turns Ars Nouveau's magic fruit into food through Farmer's Delight. The pack's quest book has a short checkmark quest for it, "Arcanist's Delight" quest, in the Ars Nouveau chapter (Magic Mods group, chapter 16 of 31). It comes right after "Welcome To Ars Nouveau!" quest, where you make your first spell book.[2]

Step 1: Get Sourceberries

A lot of the recipes in this mod use Sourceberries. You can run into Sourceberry Bushes while exploring, and harvesting them drops berries. Eating one gives Mana Regen for a few seconds. If you can't find a bush, the quest book suggests browsing the Market. That is covered in "Restoring Mana" quest.[2][3]

Step 2: Make Source Berry Jam and Cookies

Start with Source Berry Jam. It is a Farmer's Delight cooking recipe, so it is a good first look at how this add-on's cooking works.[3]

Recipe id: arsdelight:cooking/source_berry_jam

Then craft Source Berry Cookie. One craft gives you 8 cookies.[3]

Step 3: Store your harvest

This pack adds its own stonecutting recipe that turns a Sourceberry Sack into a Source Berry Crate.[3]

The other fruits have crates too, such as Bastion Crate and Flashpine Crate. Those use the mod's ordinary crafting recipes.[3]

Step 4: Start collecting bark

Barks are a key ingredient in this mod, and Arch Soup is one dish that uses them. The pack added Farmer's Delight cutting recipes where any axe strips archwood and gives you bark as a bonus. Stripping a Cascading Archwood Log gives you Cascading Bark.[3]

Step 5: Move on to Wilden food

Wilden dishes need Wilden drops. The quest "Tablet of Summon Wilden" quest explains how to summon Wilden with a ritual so you can get your first drops. Once you have a Wilden Horn, use any shovel on it in a cutting recipe to make Wilden Horn Powder. The powder goes into Wilden Stew.[2][3]

Step 6: The Enchanter's Knife

The Enchanter's Knife is made at the Enchanting Apparatus, so save it for after "The Enchanting Apparatus" quest. The pack has changed this recipe from the mod's own version.[2][3]

Tip: The Wilden effect gives max mana, mana restoration and spell damage. Its bonus options in the pack's server config are each set to 0.2, the same as the mod default: wildenMaxManaBonus, wildenManaRegenBonus and wildenSpellDamageBonus.[4][5]

How does Ars Nouveau's Flavors & Delight work?

6 parts

The sources show this mod working through recipes and status effects. They describe no machines, power or fluid systems. Almost everything it adds is made with Farmer's Delight style cooking and cutting recipes, campfire and smoker cooking, plus normal crafting.[3]

Cooking recipes

Cooking is where most of the food comes from. The recipe dump counts 16 recipes of the farmersdelight:cooking type that produce Ars Delight items, with 16 different results.[3]

Arch Soup is the simplest to read: it is made from the Blazing, Cascading, Flourishing and Vexing barks plus a bowl.[3]

The jams feed into other dishes. Activated Bastion Jam is cooked first, then used in Bastion Pork and in the pie.[3]

Getting barks and horn powder

Barks come from cutting recipes that the pack adds. Using an axe on a Cascading Archwood Log gives you the stripped log plus Cascading Bark. Using an axe on Flashing Archwood Wood gives the stripped wood plus Flashing Bark.[3]

Some ingredients need a different tool. A shovel used on a Wilden Horn gives you Wilden Horn Powder.[3]

The mod's own tooltips also mention some drops and interactions. Certain items are dropped when you kill a mob with an axe, others when you kill it with a knife. Some are obtained by right clicking one thing with another, and some are placed down with shift right click. The lang file gives these only as templates, so the specific mobs and items aren't named here.[4]

Pies and slices

Pies work both ways. You craft a whole Bastion Pie normally, then cut it into Bastion Pie Slice with any knife. You can also put slices back together by crafting.[3]

The recipe dump counts 7 knife-based cutting recipes that turn Ars Delight items into other Ars Delight items. The pies for Bombegranate, Flashpine, Frostaya and Mendosteen are among their inputs, and so is Chimera Meat.[3]

Campfire and smoker

Chimera Meat can be cooked into Grilled Chimera Meat either on a campfire or in a smoker. The dump lists 6 campfire recipes for this mod, covering Chimera and Wilden meat, slices and skewers.[3]

Effects and their config

The mod adds several status effects. Wilden gives max mana, mana restoration and spell damage. Flourishing recovers mana whenever you heal. Synchronized Shield gives absorption whenever you heal. Blast Resistance reduces incoming explosion damage, Freezing Spell makes your spell damage also inflict freezing, and Lightning Curse inflicts a lightning lure on your spell targets.[4]

The pack leaves the Wilden numbers at the mod defaults. wildenMaxManaBonus, wildenManaRegenBonus and wildenSpellDamageBonus are all 0.2, and each accepts values from 0.0 to 1.0.[4][5]

maxShieldingAbsorption is 8 in this pack, which is also the mod default. It can be set anywhere from 2.0 to 100.0.[4][5]

Other server options are also at their defaults: drygmyFarmingDamageTool is 2 (range 0 to 10000) and drygmyFarmingToolPlainCopy is false. In the common config, enableThirstCompat is true.[4][5][6]

How do you progress through Ars Nouveau's Flavors & Delight?

5 parts

In this pack the mod gets one entry in the quest book: "Arcanist's Delight" quest, in the Ars Nouveau chapter (Magic Mods group, chapter 16 of 31). It sits right after "Welcome To Ars Nouveau!" quest and is a simple checkmark quest. It tells you the addon adds extra foods through Farmer's Delight, so Ars fruits can become drinks, meals and pies. Because the quest asks for nothing, the tiers below follow the Ars Nouveau quests you unlock and the in-pack recipes.[2]

Tier 1: Source Berries

The first food you can reach comes from Sourceberries. "Restoring Mana" quest points you to the Sourceberry Bush, which comes after "Magical Trees..." quest. Eaten, the berries give Mana Regen for a few seconds. They are also the base for the mod's simplest dishes.[2][3]

Tier 2: Archwood barks

Many of the later dishes need bark, and the pack adds its own Archwood stripping recipes to get it. Cascading Archwood is the source of Cascading Bark, Flourishing Archwood of Flourishing Bark, and Flashing Archwood of Flashing Bark. Here is the Cascading one as an example:[3]

Tier 3: Magic fruit dishes

Next come the jams, pies and drinks built on the Ars fruits (Bastion, Bombegranate, Flashpine, Mendosteen and Frostaya). Jams come first, then pies that use them, and pies can be cut into slices with a knife. The hornbeer drinks sit higher up because they need Chimera Horn.[3]

Tier 4: Wilden dishes

Wilden drops open up the savoury food. "Tablet of Summon Wilden" quest is where you get your first Wilden drops, and it comes after "Rituals" quest, which comes after "Sourcestone" quest. Put a Wilden Horn or Wilden Spike through the shovel-cutting recipes to get Wilden Horn Powder or Wilden Spike Powder. Those powders feed the stews and skewers.[2][3]

One craft makes 8 skewers.

The big plated meals (Bastion Pork, Bombegranate Steak and Frostaya Mutton) all use Wilden Sauce on top of a jam, so make those after you have settled into the Wilden tier.[3]

Tier 5: Chimera and the Enchanter's Knife

The top of the food chain is the Chimera line: Chimera Skewer, Honey Glazed Chimera and the grilled Chimera items, which you cook in a campfire or smoker. In the quest book, the boss itself is the focus of "Wilden Tribute" quest, which comes after the Summon Wilden tablet quest.[2][3]

How does Ars Nouveau's Flavors & Delight work with other mods?

3 parts

This addon is all about connecting Ars Nouveau to Farmer's Delight, and the pack's recipes show a few more links on top of that. The quest book has a quest for it, "Arcanist's Delight" quest, which says the addon adds extra foods for Ars Nouveau by way of Farmer's Delight. Its fruits can be made into beverages, cooked into meals or baked into a pie.[2][3]

That quest sits in the Ars Nouveau chapter (group Magic Mods, chapter 16 of 31 in the book) and comes right after "Welcome To Ars Nouveau!" quest. The chapter has 63 quests, and the text of many of them is in the quest book.[2]

Farmer's Delight cooking

Many of the dishes are Farmer's Delight cooking recipes built on Ars Nouveau crops. The fruits Bastion Fruit, Bombegranate, Frostaya and Mendosteen are the stars, with Sourceberry and Magebloom turning up across the menu too. Ars Elemental joins in as well, because Flashpine is the fruit behind the Flashpine drinks and sweets.[3]

The meat dishes, Bastion Pork, Bombegranate Steak, Frostaya Mutton and Mendosteen Chicken, take generic ingredients from common tags, so anything in the tag works. Source Berry Cupcake does the same. Here are two examples.[3]

The pies use Farmer's Delight's Pie Crust. Honey Glazed Chimera also uses Farmer's Delight Rice Crops.[3]

Cutting and barks

The pack adds Farmer's Delight cutting recipes where you use any axe on an archwood log or wood block. You get the stripped block and a bark item back, such as Cascading Bark from Cascading Archwood Log. This also works with Ars Elemental's Flashing Archwood Log, which gives Flashing Bark. Barks go into many of the cooked recipes above.[3]

Added by the pack: strip the log with an axe to get the bark.

The mod's own cutting recipes work the same way. A shovel turns Wilden Horn into Wilden Horn Powder and Wilden Spike into Wilden Spike Powder. Any knife from the common knife tag cuts Source Berry Pie into Source Berry Pie Slice.[3]

Crates and the Enchanter's Knife

The pack adds stonecutting recipes that convert in both directions between Ars Nouveau's Sourceberry Sack and this mod's Source Berry Crate. You can also unpack a crate into 9 Sourceberries by crafting.[3]

Which FTB Skies 2: Aero quests use Ars Nouveau's Flavors & Delight?

1 part

This mod doesn't get a chapter of its own in the pack's quest book. Its one quest lives inside the Ars Nouveau chapter, in the Magic Mods group (chapter 16 of 31 in the book). That chapter has 63 quests in total.[2]

Arcanist's Delight

The quest is "Arcanist's Delight" quest. Its task is a simple checkmark, so there is nothing to craft or hand in: you read it and tick it off.[2]

It sits right after "Welcome To Ars Nouveau!" quest, the chapter's opening quest, which asks for the Novice Spell Book. Once you have that done, the food quest is open to you.[2]

The quest text explains that the addon adds some extra foods for Ars Nouveau by way of Farmer's Delight. The magic Ars fruits can be made into beverages, cooked into meals, or baked into a pie.[2]

No other quest in the chapter lists this one as a prerequisite. The main line of the chapter carries on from the opening quest through "Upgrading Our Spell Book" quest and "Creating Your First Spell" quest, and the food quest doesn't hold any of it up.[2]

Which Ars Nouveau's Flavors & Delight config options matter?

2 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Good news: this pack leaves Ars Nouveau's Flavors & Delight almost entirely on its stock settings. Every option that lists a mod default below is set to exactly that default, so the pack changed none of them. You get the mod's normal behavior.[7]

Server config

These options live in config/arsdelight-server.toml. The Wilden bonuses are all set to 0.2, which is also the mod default, and each one accepts values from 0.0 to 1.0.[7]

Common config

In config/arsdelight-common.toml, enableThirstCompat is set to true in this pack. The source doesn't give a mod default for it, so I can't say whether that differs from stock.[8]

Tip: If you want to tweak the Wilden bonuses, remember they top out at 1.0 and the pack currently sits at 0.2. Change one value at a time so you can see what it does.[7]

Unverified The sources only give option names, values and ranges. They don't describe exactly what each option does in game, such as how the drygmy farming tool options affect tools or how the Wilden bonuses are applied, so treat those details as unconfirmed.
