What is Supplementaries?
2 parts
Same as in the FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 guide
Supplementaries is a "Vanilla+" mod. Instead of rebuilding the game, it fills gaps vanilla leaves open with functional, good-looking blocks and items that sit comfortably next to what you already know. The project page lists jars, signposts, faucets, weather vanes, spring launchers, sconces, planters and lights, plus plenty more for decoration and automation.[1]
Who it's for
If you like making your base look great, or you want a few neat tools to automate small jobs, this mod is for you. The decoration and automation pieces are the main idea, so you can pick up whatever suits your build and ignore the rest.[1]
In this pack
The pack ships Supplementaries 1.21.1-3.9.8 as the NeoForge build. The project page says the mod requires Moonlight Library to run.[1][2]
The mod is described as highly configurable, and its developer points to the Customization section of the mod's official wiki for tweaking or disabling features. Keep in mind that the pack can change values, so check the pack's own configs rather than assuming mod defaults.[1]
Unverified The sources don't show where this mod fits into the pack's progression, so there is no confirmed guidance on when to use it. I also can't confirm any in-game guidebook for it.
How do you get started with Supplementaries?
5 parts
Supplementaries adds jars, signposts, faucets, sconces, planters and a lot of decoration and automation pieces. Here is a sensible order to start in, built from the real in-pack recipes.[1]
Get some ash and make Ash Bricks
Ash is where the ash brick blocks start. Burning mobs drop it when they die (building.ash.ash_from_burning_mobs is on), and burnable blocks can leave ash layers behind when burned. building.ash.ash_from_fire_chance is set to 1, the mod default. Rain can wash ash layers away over time (building.ash.rain_wash_ash is on), so collect it quickly.[3][5]
Then turn those into Ash Bricks.
From there you can make Ash Brick Slab, Ash Brick Stairs and Ash Brick Wall. Their crafting recipes are below.[5]

The Altimeter
The Altimeter recipe is changed by the pack, so don't trust recipes you remember from other modpacks. This is the one that applies here.[5]

Timber frames and daub
A cheap early build set is the Timber Frame and the Daub that goes inside it. With building.timber_frame.replace_daub on, placing daub into a timber frame swaps it for a wattle and daub block. Axes can also remove the framed block and leave the contained block intact (building.timber_frame.axes_strip).[3][5]
Lumisene and the Fire Pit
The Lumisene Bottle is enabled in this pack. The Fire Pit recipe is changed by the pack, so follow this one.[3][5]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: supplementaries:fire_pit
If you already have Create running, a mixing recipe also turns glow berries into Lumisene.[5]
Bellows
The Bellows recipe is the mod's own. Its range in redstone.bellows.range is 5, the mod default.[3][5]
How does Supplementaries work?
6 parts
Supplementaries has no power network of its own to manage. Its mechanics are redstone-driven blocks, jars for liquids and mobs, and a few piston tweaks. Nearly all of the tuning lives in the common config, so this section is mostly about what the pack set there, starting with general.dispensers.[3]
Switched off in this pack
Before you plan anything, know that functional.rope.enabled is false in this pack. The config says that also disables galleons, pulleys, buntings and rope arrows, and the rope arrow and galleon options say the same. The pulley options are still listed, but the pulley is documented as disabled when rope is off, so don't build elevators around it. The cannon (functional.cannon.enabled), cage (functional.cage.enabled) and bamboo spikes (functional.bamboo_spikes.enabled) are also disabled.[3]
Redstone blocks
- Bellows: the pulse period is the base period minus (redstone power minus 1) times the power scaling. The pack keeps the mod defaults of 78 for redstone.bellows.base_period, 2 for redstone.bellows.power_scaling, 5 for redstone.bellows.range and 5 for redstone.bellows.base_velocity_scaling. The config says a faster pulse pushes further, and that it only keeps the two fire blocks closest to it alive.[3]
- Turn table: it rotates entities standing on it (redstone.turn_table.rotate_entities) and shuffles container contents when rotated over a horizontal axis (redstone.turn_table.shuffle_containers). Both are true.[3]
- Enderman head: it takes 15 ticks to raise its output by one power level while being looked at (redstone.enderman_head.ticks_to_increase_power). It does not work from any side (redstone.enderman_head.work_from_any_side is false).[3]
- Crystal display: with redstone.crystal_display.chaining on, you can chain two displays. One powers the display to its left if its own power exceeds 10, and the power it gives is its own divided by 10. The display must not have power directly behind it, or it switches to non-chaining mode.[3]
- Spring launcher: it fires automatically after a fall distance of 5 (redstone.spring_launcher.fall_height_required) at a launch speed of 1.5 (redstone.spring_launcher.velocity).[3]
- Speaker block: range 64, maximum text 32 and narrator mode on (redstone.speaker_block.range, redstone.speaker_block.max_text, redstone.speaker_block.narrator_enabled).[3]
- Faucet: item spilling is on (redstone.faucet.spill_items is true, turn it off to stop faucets dropping items), but faucets do not fill entity inventories below them (redstone.faucet.fill_entities_below is false).[3]
Pistons and moving blocks
The pack has tweaks.piston_tweaks.cooperative_pistons on. Adjacent pistons facing the same way can pool their 12-block push budget, so two side by side can move a 24-block slime contraption. This only kicks in when a single piston's normal push would fail.[3]
With tweaks.piston_tweaks.push_block_entities on, pistons can push chests and furnaces, though blocks with a push reaction of BLOCK stay immovable. If Quark's 'pistons move tile entities' module is enabled, it takes priority and this option does nothing. Also, tweaks.piston_tweaks.moved_cauldron_filling means pushing an empty cauldron into a water or lava source fills it.[3]
Jars and fluids
Jars can hold liquids from bottles, buckets and bowls (functional.jar.jar_liquids), capture small mobs (functional.jar.jar_capture) and hold cookies (functional.jar.jar_cookies). All of those are true in this pack. Capacity is 12, which the config says to leave alone for pixel accuracy (functional.jar.capacity). Right-click drinking from placed jars and from jar items is off.[3]
Create-based processing
The pack ties a few Supplementaries items into Create. Lumisene comes from a Create mixing recipe, and Sconce becomes Soul Sconce by haunting. Flax milling and blackboard splashing recipes also exist, but the flax feature itself is off (functional.flax.enabled is false).[3][5]
Drinking a lumisene bottle gives the flammable effect for 300 and the glowing effect for 200 (functional.lumisene.lumisene_bottle.flammable_duration, functional.lumisene.lumisene_bottle.glowing_duration). Merely stepping on lumisene gives flammable for 50 (functional.lumisene.flammable_from_lumisene_block_duration).[3]
Road signs
Road signs are enabled and search up to 200 chunks for structures, trying up to 12 structure types each time. They show the distance text, and they stop at the first structure found, so they won't always point to the nearest one (building.way_sign.road_signs.max_search_radius, building.way_sign.road_signs.max_structures_searches, building.way_sign.road_signs.exit_search_early).[3]
Unverified Which structures spawn and where is set in config/supplementaries/structure_toggle_config.json5 and config/supplementaries/structure_placement_config.json5. Those files exist in the pack, but the sources here do not show their contents.
How do you progress through Supplementaries?
5 parts
I'm laying this out by what the pack's recipes ask for, from vanilla basics up to Create machines and Netherite. The recipes below are the ones in this pack, and a few of them differ from the mod's defaults.[5]
Basic crafting
Most of the decorative blocks need nothing special. The Timber Frame, Timber Brace, Timber Cross Brace, Daub and Wattle and Daub Frame all use ordinary crafting recipes. Awnings, like the Blue Awning, are shown below.[5]

Stonework and processing
Ash bricks are a small chain. Smelt ash to get an Ash Brick, then craft those into Ash Bricks. From there, crafting gives 6 slabs, 4 stairs or 6 walls, while the stonecutter gives 2 slabs, 1 stair or 1 wall.[5]

Blackstone Tiles works similarly, with slabs, stairs and walls following from it. The pack also has Create and Farmer's Delight recipes for this mod. Milling Flax also gives Flax Seeds. The Sconce has a Create haunting variant, the Soul Sconce. Create splashing covers the Blackboard and Tipped Bamboo Spikes. Farmer's Delight adds ones for the Planter and the Pancake. The flax and blackboard ones are shown below.[5]

Netherite and rare items
The top end is the Netherite Door and Netherite Trapdoor. The Banner Pattern and the Smithing Template are other special extras. The door and template recipes are shown below.[5]

Recipe id: supplementaries:blast_armor_trim_smithing_template
This recipe makes 2 templates per craft.
How does Supplementaries work with other mods?
In this pack's recipes, the only link I can confirm between Supplementaries and another mod is an alternate way to craft the Planter. This version uses Rich Soil as an ingredient.[5]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: supplementaries:integration/planter_rich_fd
A shaped crafting recipe, labelled in the recipe dump as a mod recipe.
The recipe dump files this recipe under the mod's integration recipes and marks it as a mod recipe, so it comes from Supplementaries itself and is not a pack change.[5]
Which Supplementaries config options matter?
4 parts
Most of Supplementaries' options are left at the mod defaults in this pack. Only four values in the common config are flagged as changed from the default: one for the red merchant and three for the blue bomb. Everything else below is how the pack has it set.[3]
Values the pack changed
- general.red_merchant_spawn_multiplier is 0 in this pack, where the mod default is 1. The option's own description says the red merchant won't spawn at 0, so don't expect to find one.[3]
- tools.bomb.blue_bomb.explosion_radius is 5.15 (mod default 3). The description calls it the same blast as a normal bomb, just a bit bigger.[3]
- tools.bomb.blue_bomb.baby_explosion_radius is 1.6 (mod default 1.2). This is the blast radius of the baby bombs a blue bomb scatters.[3]
- tools.bomb.blue_bomb.baby_fire_duration is 4 seconds (mod default 5). It is how long the baby bombs set nearby entities on fire.[3]
The rest of the blue bomb is at its defaults: it scatters 5 baby bombs (tools.bomb.blue_bomb.split_count) and breaks blocks in WEAK mode, the same as a normal bomb. A normal bomb has an explosion radius of 2 (tools.bomb.explosion_radius).[3]
Ropes are switched off
Other features are also set to false in the common config: functional.jar.enabled, functional.cage.enabled, functional.cannon.enabled, functional.safe.enabled, functional.sack.enabled, functional.soap.enabled, tools.slingshot.enabled, tools.quiver.enabled and tools.wrench.enabled. The file doesn't say whether these differ from the mod default, only that this is how the pack has them.[3]
Features that are switched on include the bomb (tools.bomb.enabled), the bubble blower (tools.bubble_blower.enabled), the flute (tools.flute.enabled), the bellows (redstone.bellows.enabled), the speaker block (redstone.speaker_block.enabled) and the spring launcher (redstone.spring_launcher.enabled).[3]
Structures
The structure toggle file has road signs and galleons both set to true. Road signs are placed with spacing 19 and separation 10, and galleons with spacing 31 and separation 19. Keep in mind that the common config notes galleons are automatically disabled when the rope feature is off, and rope is off in this pack.[3][4][6]
Road sign searching is at the mod defaults. building.way_sign.road_signs.max_search_radius is 200 chunks. building.way_sign.road_signs.max_structures_searches is 12 structure types per search. building.way_sign.road_signs.exit_search_early and building.way_sign.road_signs.show_distance_text are both on, so signs stop at the first structure found (which may not be the nearest) and show the distance.[3]
Client options
In the client config, blocks.flag.fanciness is set to FABULOUS, and blocks.clock_block.24h_format shows time in 24h format. general.tooltip_hints is on, and general.configs_button (the Quark style config button on the main menu) is off.[7]
What changed in Supplementaries between versions?
2 parts
FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.10.0 ships Supplementaries 1.21.1-3.9.8 (the NeoForge build). The mod has been in the pack since 1.0.3 or earlier. Here are the notable changes from the mod's own changelogs, newest first.[8]
Unverified No pack changelog entries for this mod were available, so this history only covers the mod's own changelogs.
Later releases
- 3.9.8 (the version in this pack): fixed the pulley animation on the first pull, fixed the cannon boat shoot range, and fixed the flags banner config item renderer. The hourglass load method was also changed a bit.[8][9]
- 3.9.5: fixed a very rare issue on servers.[10]
- 3.9.3: miscellaneous fixes, including a fix for issue #2142.[11]
Earlier releases
- 3.8.9: fixes for issues #2133 and #2132.[12]
- 3.8.8: fixed an issue with piston cooperators. Plunderers can now rarely drop spyglasses.[13]
- 3.8.5: fixed some missing textures and improved the cooperative piston code.[14]
- 3.8.4: improved the cannon visuals, for parity with Bedrock.[15]
- 3.8.0: added the mod's own config screen and more mod compat. The bubble blower can also be used by a dispenser now.[16]
Most of these releases are bug fixes. Cannon, pulley and cooperative piston fixes are the ones you are most likely to notice.[9][13][14][15]
