What is Cooking for Blockheads?
2 parts
Cooking for Blockheads turns your food crafting into a kitchen you build block by block. The centerpiece is the Cooking Table. When you open it, it shows every food you can make from what's stored in the connected multiblock and the appliances attached to it. The pack ships version 21.1.24 of the mod.[1][2]
Where it sits in the quest book
The mod's quests live in the "Cooking and Brewing" chapter, in the "Exploration & Combat" group. It is chapter 12 of 31 in the book and holds 45 quests. These are shared with Farmer's Delight food and potion brewing quests, so you'll see a mix of topics there.[2]
The kitchen line starts at "Building Your Kitchen" quest, where you craft the Cooking Table. That quest lists no prerequisite in the chapter. Eight quests follow directly after it: "Fruit Basket" quest, "Industrial Cooking" quest, "Tool Rack" quest, "Spice Rack" quest, "Free Milk!" quest, "Infinite Water Source?" quest, "The Pantry" quest and "Fridges" quest.[2]
Two of those branch further. After Fridges you get "Preservation Unit" quest and "Ice Unit" quest. After Industrial Cooking you get "Heating Unit" quest.[2]
What the kitchen pieces do
- Oven: gives access to recipes that need a furnace or smoker, as long as it has fuel, and cooks up to 9 items at once. The quest book calls it the Stove.[2]
- Fridge: stores cold items and can be upgraded with the Ice Unit for Ice and Snow recipes, or the Preservation Chamber, which tries to keep at least 1 item from a stack from being used up.[2]
- Heating Unit: an Oven upgrade that lets you cook with power instead of coal.[2]
- Sink: provides infinite water for recipes that need it.[2]
- Cow in a Jar: provides milk slowly over time for recipes that call for it.[2]
- Fruit Basket, Tool Rack and Spice Rack: extra storage and decoration for the kitchen. The Fruit Basket is a storage block that visually shows fruit.[2]
Nothing in this chapter's quests ties the mod to the ATM Star path.[2]
How do you get started with Cooking for Blockheads?
5 parts
Cooking for Blockheads is built around a Kitchen Multiblock, and the pack's quest book tells you to start with the Cooking Table. It is the main crafting table for foods and the centerpiece of the kitchen. When you open it, it shows every food you can make from what is stored in the multiblock and the appliances connected to it.[2]
The quest "Building Your Kitchen" quest sits in the Cooking and Brewing chapter (group "Exploration & Combat", chapter 12 of 31 in the book). Fridges, the Oven, the Sink, the Pantry and the Milk Jar quests all come after it.[2]
Step 1: the first recipe book
Everything starts with Cooking for Blockheads I, which is made by smelting rather than at a crafting table.[3]
Step 2: upgrade it to the second book
Next you need Cooking for Blockheads II. The pack changed this recipe, so check the one below and don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults.[3]

Step 3: the Cooking Table
The second book is one of the ingredients of the table itself, so you can't skip ahead.[3]

Step 4: storage for your ingredients
Put your cooking items into a Kitchen Counter or a Kitchen Cabinet. As long as they are connected to the multiblock, the Cooking Table can use them for most of its recipes, so you spend less time searching in JEI.[2]

Step 5: the first appliances
The Sink gives the kitchen an infinite water source, which unlocks recipes that need Water. The pack changed its recipe.[2][3]

The Fridge is the place for cold items, and it can be upgraded to give the kitchen more recipes.[2]
The Oven gives you recipes that need a furnace or smoker, as long as it has fuel, and it cooks up to 9 items at the same time. The pack changed this recipe too.[2][3]

How does Cooking for Blockheads work?
4 parts
Cooking for Blockheads is a kitchen-building mod. The pack's data shows a whole set of kitchen blocks: the Cooking Table, cabinets, counters, fridges, ovens, sinks and connectors, plus smaller pieces like the Cutting Board, the Fruit Basket, a spice rack, a tool rack and a toaster. This section covers the pieces the sources describe.[4]

The book chain and the Cooking Table
Everything starts with the recipe books: Cooking for Blockheads I (Book I), Cooking for Blockheads II (Book II) and the Cooking for Blockheads. The pack has changed the recipe for Book II, so don't assume the mod's default applies. The recipes below show each one.[3][4]
Book I is made by smelting.

Storage and cooling
The mod's screen titles show which blocks have their own containers: Kitchen Cabinet, Kitchen Counter, Fridge, Fruit Basket, Spice Rack and Cutting Board. The oven's screen is called Cooking Oven.[4]

Colours and floors
Cabinets, connectors, cooking tables, counters, fridges, ovens and sinks all come in many colours. The black dye recipes for cabinets, connectors and cooking tables accept any block from the matching group, so you can re-dye a block that is already coloured. Each of those three groups also has a recipe that strips the dye and gives you the plain version back. Black cabinets are the example here.[3][4]

Floors work differently. One craft turns the plain Kitchen Floor into 8 coloured floor blocks, such as Black Kitchen Floor.[3][4]

Extras worth knowing
- There is a Cow in a Jar block, a Compressed Cow in a Jar screen and a Milk Jar block. The mod has a milk-per-tick multiplier for the Compressed Cow in a Jar, added for Ex Compressum compatibility.[4]
- The mod has an option so that toasting already-toasted bread turns it into charcoal, but only if no other mod adding toast is present.[4]
- Jade has tooltip entries for the Fridge, Milk Jar, Oven, Preservation Chamber, Sink and Toaster.[4]
Unverified The values of the mod's config options, such as the toast and Compressed Cow in a Jar milk settings, are set in the mod's config, and the sources here do not show them, so what this pack uses is unverified.
How do you progress through Cooking for Blockheads?
5 parts
The kitchen progression in this pack lives in the "Cooking and Brewing" quest chapter. It is chapter 12 of 31 in the book, in the "Exploration & Combat" group. That chapter also covers Farmer's Delight meals and potions, but the Cooking for Blockheads part is one clean tree: one starter quest, then a fan of appliance quests.[2]
Tier 1: the books
Everything starts from the recipes. Cooking for Blockheads I is made by smelting, and the pack changed the recipe for the upgrade, Cooking for Blockheads II.[3]

Tier 2: the Cooking Table
Your first real goal is "Building Your Kitchen" quest, which asks for the Cooking Table. The quest calls it the centerpiece of your Kitchen Multiblock. Once it is open, it shows every food you can make from what is stored in the multiblock and the appliances connected to it. The Cooking Table recipe is built on the book from the previous tier.[2][3]

Tier 3: the kitchen branches
Every other kitchen quest comes after Building Your Kitchen, so you can do them in any order. Here is what each one gives you:[2]
- "The Pantry" quest: put your ingredients in a Kitchen Counter or Kitchen Cabinet. As long as they are connected to the multiblock, the Cooking Table can use them.[2]
- "Infinite Water Source?" quest: the Sink gives an infinite water source and unlocks recipes that need water.[2]
- "Free Milk!" quest: the Cow in a Jar supplies milk for recipes. The quest has you make a Milk Jar first, place it in a hole, lure a Cow on top of it and drop an Anvil on the Cow. After that it provides milk slowly over time.[2]
- "Fruit Basket" quest: the Fruit Basket is another storage block for the multiblock that can visually store fruit.[2]
- "Tool Rack" quest and "Spice Rack" quest: the Tool Rack is a place to store your cooking utensils, and the Spice Rack is the kitchen staple the quest jokes every kitchen should have.[2]

Tier 4: appliance upgrades
Two branches go one step further. "Industrial Cooking" quest asks for the Oven, which the quest text calls the Stove. Connected to the multiblock, it unlocks recipes that need a furnace or smoker, as long as it has fuel, and it cooks up to 9 items at once. The pack changed its recipe.[2][3]

After that, "Heating Unit" quest gives you the Heating Unit. Add it to the Stove and you can cook with power instead of coal. The pack also changed this recipe.[2][3]

This recipe is changed by the pack.
The other branch starts at "Fridges" quest and the Fridge, which the quest says can be upgraded to give the multiblock more recipes. Two upgrades follow it. "Ice Unit" quest adds the Ice Unit to a Fridge for Ice and Snow recipes. "Preservation Unit" quest adds the Preservation Chamber, which always tries to keep at least 1 item from a stack from being used up in recipes. The pack changed both upgrade recipes.[2][3]

Extras
Dyed versions of the cooking table, counter, cabinet, connector, sink, fridge and oven can be crafted, and there are separate recipes for removing the dye from several of them. The Toaster also has a pack-changed recipe.[3]
Which FTB Skies 2: Aero quests use Cooking for Blockheads?
4 parts
Everything quest-related for this mod sits in one chapter of the pack's quest book: "Cooking and Brewing". It is in the "Exploration & Combat" group and is chapter 12 of 31. The chapter has 45 quests and also covers Farmer's Delight food, farming and potion brewing. The Cooking for Blockheads quests form a kitchen tree that starts with one quest.[2]
Start here: Building Your Kitchen
The kitchen tree opens with "Building Your Kitchen" quest, which asks you to get a Cooking Table. The quest calls it the first big craft and the centerpiece of your Kitchen Multiblock. When opened, it shows every food you can make from what is stored in the multiblock and the appliances connected to it. The quest also warns that some mods won't connect, such as the Farmer's Delight Cooking Pot, so check JEI for specific recipes.[2]
Quests that follow the Cooking Table
Eight quests unlock after Building Your Kitchen. Most of them ask you to obtain a kitchen block:[2]
- "Fruit Basket" quest: get a Fruit Basket, an extra storage block for the multiblock that can visually store fruit.[2]
- "Industrial Cooking" quest: get an Oven. The quest text calls it the Stove. Once connected, it gives access to recipes that need a furnace or smoker, as long as it has fuel, and it cooks up to 9 items at once.[2]
- "Tool Rack" quest: get a Tool Rack to store your cooking utensils.[2]
- "Spice Rack" quest: get a Spice Rack.[2]
- "Free Milk!" quest: get a Cow in a Jar. Once added to the multiblock, it supplies recipes with Milk Buckets. The quest explains the setup: make a Milk Jar, place it in a hole big enough for a Cow, lure the Cow on top, then drop an Anvil into the hole. The jar then provides milk slowly over time.[2]
- "Infinite Water Source?" quest: get a Sink, which gives the multiblock an infinite water source for recipes that need Water.[2]
- "The Pantry" quest: the quest text tells you to stuff your ingredients into a Kitchen Counter or Cabinet. As long as they are connected to the multiblock, the Cooking Table can access most of the recipes for them.[2]
- "Fridges" quest: get a Fridge, which stores cold items and can be upgraded to provide more recipes.[2]
Upgrades
Two quests come after the Fridge quest. "Ice Unit" quest asks for an Ice Unit, which you add to a Fridge to provide Ice and Snow recipes. "Preservation Unit" quest asks for a Preservation Chamber. The quest text says it always tries to keep at least 1 item from a stack from being used up in recipes.[2]
The Oven has its own follow-up: "Heating Unit" quest asks for a Heating Unit. You add it to the Oven (the quest text says Stove) so it cooks with Power instead of Coal.[2]
Related quest
"Mechanical Meals" quest is a checkmark quest with no item to hand in. It suggests building a small food factory. It says that once an Oven, Fridge and Counter are connected into one kitchen, the Cooking Table pulls ingredients from every block attached to it.[2]
